Apex 2.2 evaluation - Followup comments

Regarding the Apex 2.2 evaluation going on, I find that some comments need some back and forth between the evaluator and the Oracle folks.
In such cases, I just go back to the original comment and Edit it with "Update:" and put in my further followups.
Hopefully, all these updates are also being reviewed by Oracle.
If there is a better way to do this, let us know.

the problem is that if the first word isn't "SELECT" or "WITH" the statement it's not detected as a SQL statement and we fallback to try to handle it as an anonymous PL/SQL block.
For now as a workaround, but your comments after the SELECT keyword like
select /* comment */
from dualWe try to change that behavior in a future version of APEX.

Classic report - Condition evaluated for every row

APEX 4.2.2
I am seeing something strange in a classic report region. A report started to fail at run-time with a strange error about bad syntax. When I run the page in debug mode, I see the following

Looks like the APEX engine is evaluating a boolean expression after rendering and each and every row in the report. And for some strange reason, it is using a piece of data from my query's resultset and failing because of the bad syntax introduced due to the single-quote in the string.
I have never seen this before. Any idea what is going on?

Howdy Paul, sorry should have provided all the details. No, this is a standard generic column template. Ah, you are right, drat I should have looked closer. The template has use a condition to show either a highlighted row or normal one. Sorry for the false alarm, I can take it from here. Enjoy your flight :-)

Evaluation of html stored in the database

Hello everyone, here is my story.
I have html stored in the database that I am using in regions. The region is a pl/sql anonymous block with code similar to this.

It draws in and displays the html great. The only problem is apex isn't evaluating the html. I have an image that is drawing from #workspace_images#, but instead of translating this to something useful, I get a red x. It is trying to find the image as #workspace_images#...The html being drawn in isn't being evaluated like I want it to (I want it to translate #workspace_Images#). Any ideas how to evaluate this html?
Here is what the image location is supposed to look like

Replacing occurences of '#WORKSPACE_IMAGES' with 'WORKSPACE_IMAGES' in the database
and then applying the replace function on the column works.

Again, don't know why !

Apex 2.2 Blue/Grey Theme ?

Hi,
I took a look at the new Apex 2.2 and I used one of the new themes available Blue/Grey. It's exactly the one that I would need for my actual application in 1.6. If my understanding is good, all I would need is the theme, images files from the server and the theme, template from Apex 2.2. Is there a possibility to get those files from Oracle ?

There is a great Firefox extension called View Dependencies

Just run any page in the Apex 2.2 Evaluation instance using that Theme and run that extension, here is what I see http://i4.tinypic.com/104km7d.jpg
You can even right click on any of those lines in that window and open that CSS/JS/whatever in a new tab/window and then save it.
You also need to export the theme using the Export Theme feature as in http://i4.tinypic.com/104kmxf.jpg This will give you all the templates that comprise that theme. You can now import this theme in your own workspace/application and put all the images/CSS files in the right place and you should be good to go.

Follow up reports

We have created a form that collects progress reports from individuals working on a team. Is it possible to recieve the progress report and then have the coordinator provide a followup comment that would be logged in the original response?

If you shared the response file with the coordinator, you could add a column to the response file and have the coordinator put it in there.

ASDM 7.1 fails to start on MacOS

Hi,
I have an ASA-5505 which I have been managing using ASDM from a PC and a Mac.
I just happens that the Mac has not been used in a little while and when I tried to use ASDM on it, it fails.
I've had a trawl through various posts and release notes (after updating various components in the process, incl Java with all the diabling/security updates of late) but am still having the problem and this is where I'm at:
- the ASA runs v8.4(2) and ASDM 7.1(1)52
- release notes state that ASDM 7.1 should work on Java 7 on Windows 7 and MacOS 10.7
- ASDM starts fine on my Windows 7 PC running Java 1.7.0_13
- I am also running Java 1.7.0_13 on MacOS 10.7.5
- on MacOS, ASDM starts, asks for credentials, download/refreshes the cached app... and then crashes with the following exception message:

The root cause of the issue seems to be that a Java class called apple.laf.AquaTableHeaderUI is not found...
Now, I don't know much about Java, but that seems to be an Apple UI related class - I presume that it would be good to use this to give ASDM a more native look and feel, but why on earth is there no fallback? or am I missing something?
Any information or help on the matter will be very welcome... even if it's only to say that you are experiencing the same issue!

I had exactly the same problem on a Mac mini running OS X 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 with Java 1.7.0_60. I spent any amount of time flushing caches, deleting my ~/.asdm directory and re-installing the dm-launcher.dmg file.
I eventually got it running by installing Apple's Java for OS X 2014-001 from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572, deleting my ~/.asdm directory, using the Java Control Panel to delete all cached files and installed apps, then reinstalling from a fresh download of the dm-installer.dmg file.
Bit of a blunderbus approach, I know, but it worked for me. I think the Apple Java installation was what tipped the balance, but who knows, as it really ought to have been there already, shouldn't it?!

I just checked the Software Installations history on my Macbook Air on which ASDM has been working just fine. It had Java for OS X 2013-005, which is the predecessor of 2014-001, and I remember having to install it to sort out compatibility problems between Java 6, Java 7 and ASDM 7.1. The Mac mini, on the other hand, had Java for OS X 2012-005, which I suspect is the root of my problems.
You can find out which Java you have by running "java -version" from a Terminal, and cross-check against the table on https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2002/tn2110.html.

Apex does not as yet support PDF printing out of the box. At this stage your options are;
1. Wait for the release of Apex 3.0 (evaluation instance is now available).
2. Use FOP to generate PDF output (probably not for a novice user). See this link;

4.0 Calendar link 'length is null or not an object'

After upgrading to 4.0 earlier this week, we now have a problem with our calendars that were built in 3.1.1. Whenever I click on an event link in IE i get the error "length is null or not an object". When I click the link from Firefox I get the error "b is undefined" from the apex_widget_4_0.js file. After reading the user guide for 4.0, I deleted the region and re-added it with the same SQL, but I get the same error.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

It will be great if you can point to the url where you are facing this issue maybe a url from apex.oracle.com. The comment like clicking on event is throwing an error is confusing, here which event you are talking about.
I created a calendar in apex.oracle.com of various types SQL Calendar, SQL Calendar with Partial Page Refresh as display type, Easy Calendar , Easy Calendar with partial Page refresh as Display Type and all these calendar provided with day and column link and did not get any issues as specified.
It will really helpful if you can provide a URL in apex.oracle.com or any other site with the specified issue and also with clear explanation of what "clicking on event" means here

Windows 7,new installation, images folder path configuration problem

I am having a difficult time getting images folder (or possibly loaded images) to perform correctly on a new installation.
When apex starts up, the page has no visual objects rendered. Here's a portion of the page's source:

I've tried a number of corrections including rerunning apex_epg_config.sql, apexldimg.sql, adding an apex.images parameter to listener startup (just a shot in the dark), deleting and recreating apex.properties, adding and removing trailing /'s, \'s, //'s, \\'s, etc. I didn't have success with any of these approaches, so it may have been cumulative changes that resulted in the problem. I just list them as having tried (at least once).

Yes, I did specify a full path rather than /i/. I think I had originally started with /i/ but didn't understand where /i/ maps to a folder path, so I reinstalled and specified the path with similar results.
I'll test reset_image_prefix.sql and post results.
I'm confused about the EPSQL gateway v. APEX listener. I just tried to follow the documentation which offered multiple options. I am not familiar with either of them, so I can't defend a choice.

Problem When Formatting Functions

When I right click on a function that I am editing and click on format. My line comments are all stripped away.
Regardless of comment style --- or /* */

Need help getting access with RC2 of LR4 to a catalog that was processed with RC1

I have been successfully using RC1 on my home desktop Mac Pro to process images from my new 5D3, but hadn't upgraded to RC2. Now, I'm on the road getting ready to start a 4 day photo workshop using a MacBook Pro and the same portable drive with all my photo stuff that had been attached to the desktop at home. Sadly, I wasn't smart enough to apply the same LR4 DVD that I had used on my desktop and upgrade to RC1 when that was still available.
So, here in the hotel, I loaded an eval LR4 and then installed RC2 (since it appears that RC1 is not accesible any more). Now, however, LR4 won't open the LR4 catalog that I had processed with RC1.
Suggestions, anyone?

Here's a followup comment on my experience. I have now tried taking the
option of creating a new catalog, figuring that I can use that catalog for
my pictures this weekend and sort things out when I get home. Lightroom
refused to open a new catalog on the portable external drive where all my
other catalogs are stored, saying that "Lightroom catalogs cannot be opened
on network volumes, removable storage or read-only volumes." This is very
strange, since there are both LR3 and LR4 catalogs on that same drive and
I've been using them there for more than a year.

Bug report - Grid edit for item help

Apex 4.0.2
Page 4000.408 in the Apex Builder (Grid Edit Item Help) can be used to bulk edit item help text. Tried to use this to set item help for a bunch of items. But it appears that the page only shows items that already have some help text. I guess the recommendation is to use the Seed Item Help Text button on that page to set some default text for all items and and then use this page to tweak as needed.
I am not sure I agree with this. Since this page (408) is a tabular form anyway, why not let us Add or Edit rows directly? Looking at the query behind the page, a simple tweak would make it so

I tested in the sample application on a 4.1 instance and was able to update item level help on this page. Can you confirm this also works for you on apex.oracle.com?

Data Grid Recommendation

We are looking to add data grid functionality to our Apex app and am looking for any suggestions. Ideally it should be able to sort, resize, re-arrange and hide/show columns as well as load data asynchronously using the results of an AJAX request. Being able to resize the entire grid would also be nice.
I have seen references to integrating ExtJS into Apex but also have seen comments that it is written for an older version. Does anyone know if this is still correct?
I have also been looking at stand-alone jQuery plugins but am not sure how much work will be involved integrating this with Apex. Does anyone have experience with this?
Any help, pointers, suggestions, gotchas, etc would be appreciated.

Below is all of the JavaScript code. I found that, because Apex does not follow the standard method for passing parameters (sounds more like something Microsoft would do) you have to override the method used to send the data to the server. Also, since there is no way to change the content-type response header from 'text/html' (as far as I can find) you must also parse the resulting JSON string. Both of these actions are performed within the getPromoData function.
I haven't done more than get the table to display with pagination working so there may be other issues I run into along the way. I shouild also note that we are using Apex 4.0 and I understand there have been improvements in AJAX processing in Apex 4.2, so that may change things (hopefully for the better).

Font suddenly got big

I accidentally deleted previous thread on this (see "aside" at end)
It is repeatable. I closed Excel and when through this sequence. Between screenshots 3 & 4 I had opened the advanced editor. Look to right side of image to see big font in Workbook Queries panel.

Basically what you're seeing is the zoom level changing. It's just like IE (because it is IE under the covers.) [CTRL][SHIFT][PLUS] and [CTRL][SHIFT][MINUS] will increase and decrease the zoom for the Power Query portions of the product. [CTRL][0] will reset
to 100% zoom. We had blocked this for a while but we got feedback that this was needed for accessibility, especially on higher dpi machines.
If you're seeing the zoom level changing without input from you then we should dig into this.
