APEX 3.0 Report

Anyone have any idea how to create a dynamic query report where the results goes to a pdf / word document? I'm using APEX 3.0; and I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in adv

Hi,
Can you expand on your requirements a bit more, what you have described is certainly possible, however it is also open to 'misinterpretation' too, so if you can clarify exactly what you're trying to achieve it would make it easier to make suggestions.

  • How to create a fixed-width column within an APEX 4 interactive report?

    This thread is a follow-up to {message:id=9191195}. Thanks fac586.
    Partial success: The following code provided by fac586 limits the column width of the Apex 4 interactive report column as long as the column data contains whitespace within a Firefox 3.6 browser:
    <pre class="jive-pre">
    <style type="text/css">
    th#T_DESCRIPTION {
    width: 300px;
    td[headers="T_DESCRIPTION"] {
    width: 300px;
    word-wrap: break-word;
    </style>
    </pre>
    Notes:
    1. The code above is put into the HTML header section for the page.
    2. T_DESCRIPTION is defined as VARCHAR2(2000).
    3. The code above works within the Firefox 3.6.12 browser but does not work within the Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 browser.
    I tried adding "float: left;":
    <pre class="jive-pre">
    <style type="text/css">
    th#T_DESCRIPTION {
    width: 300px;
    td[headers="T_DESCRIPTION"] {
    width: 300px;
    word-wrap: break-word;
    <font color="red"> float: left;</font>
    </style>
    </pre>
    Notes:
    1. "float: left;" does not require whitespace and successfully splits the column between characters in lieu of whitespace.
    2. "float: left;" shrinks the cell height and allows the page background to show through... couldn't determine how to fix this.
    3. The code above works within the Firefox 3.6.12 browser but does not work within the Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 browser.
    I've done some more research, but I still haven't discovered how to create a fixed-width column within an APEX 4 interactive report that displays properly within an Internet Explorer 7 browser.
    Any ideas and help will be appreciated.

    Thanks for your help with this!

    The following code provided by fac586 works in both Firefox 3.6 and IE7 using default theme "21. Scarlet" at apex.oracle.com; however, it doesn't work when I use a copy of our customized theme "101. Light Blue":
    <pre class="jive-pre">
    <style type="text/css">
    .apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA {
    th#T_DESCRIPTION {
    width: 300px;
    max-width: 300px;
    td[headers="T_DESCRIPTION"] {
    max-width: 300px;
    word-wrap: break-word;
    </style>
    <!--[if lt IE 8]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* IE is broken */
    th#T_DESCRIPTION,
    td[headers="T_DESCRIPTION"] {
    width: 300px;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    </pre>
    Any idea what in the theme could be causing the fixed width column to be ignored in IE 7?

  • Apex 4.2 Report region sql query with "apex_item.text" renders wrongly

    In APEX 4.2 page i have created region "Report data".
    Type="SQl Query".
    "User Interface"-->"Template"="Reports Region".
    "Region Source"="select apex_item.text(1, '111') as c1 from dual".
    Actually the select query is little bit more complex, but generally simplified it is such, that it uses function "select apex_item.text" to construct HTML textfield.
    If i run in Sql Developer query
    select apex_item.text(1, '111') as c1 from dual;Then result is:
    <input type="text" name="f01" size="20" maxlength="2000" value="111"  />But in APEX 4.2 the report is rendered so:
    <td  headers="c1">&lt ;input type=&quot ;text&quot ; name=&quot;f01&quot; size=&quot;20&quot; maxlength=&quot;2000&quot; value=&quot;111&quot;  /&gt ;</td>(for this forum to display correctly i had to put extra spaces between" &gt" and ";" and so on)
    And APEX 4.2 shows ugly html inside report cell/slot for me, displaying characters/symbols ">". The reason is that APEX HTML page source does not have symbol ">" but has " &gt ;" .
    In APEX 3 i have similar query working well, without such anomaly.
    What attribute should i change in APEX 4.2 region to display my query result as needed?
    I need that function "apex_item.text", i cannot remove it.

  • How do I set an Apex mulri-row reports form value for the specifc current row using Javascript?

    I have a multi-row region based on a table in which I have two particular columns of interest.  The first has an LOV defined for which I have set up a pick-list of codes associated with the item's status as "OK" or having some problem, for which there are a small number of set codes associated.  Most rows will be OK, but when there is a problem, the pick-list will be used.
    When that pick list has been used, there is an optional "comments" column that can be filled in.  I want my screen to dynamically enable/disable a pushbutton that links to the comment based on the code.  This being row-based, the push-button needs enabling or disabling by row, not as a whole "conditional column".  That bit is ok, I think, but I don't know and can't find the syntax for how within the javascript onchange function I set the current row value for a different column to the one that triggered it.
    My header function (that doesn't work) is going to be something like this (where the status column LOV having a value = 6 means "OK").  Note I'm using alert for a debug mechamism.  The $s line is my failed attempt to set he column value, here with a hard-coded string "Changed COMMENTS":
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function doActivateButton(object)
      if(parseInt(object.value)!='6')
        alert('It is not 6!');
        $s('#COMMENTS','Changed COMMENTS','Changed COMMENTS',TRUE);
      else
        alert('It is 6, you know!');
    </script>
    Ideally, I want any existing comments blanked if the user picks "OK" (6) as the new status, whereas for debug above I'm setting the hardcoded debug string.  You will probably also note I realise I haven't properly understood the purpose of the third parameter in the $s API.
    (This is a reports region, by the way.  A detail block, in forms-speak, with a header block above it.)
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • APEX 3.1 Report pagination style limited by max row count

    I am working on an application using APEX 3.1 and am having trouble keeping the report pagination style as a select list when the max row count for the report is greater than 8000. If I use the select list as the pagination method, the first time that the first page is viewed is fine however all subsequent pages begin to use the "next" and "previous" link method of pagination. This is only occurring when the max row count is higher than 8000 and a select list is used for pagination.
    My question is: is the style of pagination, in Oracle APEX (3.1), limited by the potential number of rows returned for the report? If not, is this a bug with my version of Oracle APEX?

    The source of my problem was that the report referenced a page item for the number of rows. That select list referenced a named List of Values (LOV) that limited the number of rows that the report could display. I removed that reference and my problem disappeared!

  • APEX 4.0 Report Query column limitation, 43 column maximum for the result!

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to generate report from Apex 4.0.1, but I got stucked with column limitation when I'm executing the report query.
    Case:
    Environment: oracle 11g, apex 4.0.1, oracle BI 11, windows xp
    Table: My test table is quite simple, by creating a sample table with 44 columns, the column name is random, i.e. column1..column44, column data type is varchar2 (20)
    report query:my report query is also simple, by "select * from testtable"
    Data: no data in my sample table
    Error: then I'll get the error: "HelpORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"
    solution: If I shrink the table column from 44 to 43, then the report can be generated to xls, pdf, etc.
    Question: Is there any column limitation for Apex report query? I know there's a 32k row size limitation for varchar, but since there's no single data in my table, it shouldn't be the case.
    Does anybody get this issue before? Thanks for any generous input!! :)
    Horatio

    hi marko,
    Thanks for the reply, but i can't find the 45 column limitation from report query and report printing. any clue for this call?

  • APEX & BI Publisher - report column amount limit?

    Hi all,
    I try to extend reports in an apex application by exports to output formats
    provided by BI Publisher.
    All reports work fine except one report that contains 39 columns.
    So I did several tests and found out that apex won't send report xml data
    to BI Publisher server if the report contains more than 29 columns that
    are marked to be included in export.
    Everytime I call that report apex returns an "empty" http response with a header like this:
    HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2007 09:33:00 GMT
    Server: Server
    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=test.xls
    <pre>report error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small</pre>
    Content-Type: application/excel
    Content-Length: 0
    Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    The error occurs independent on selected output format.
    I am using apex version 3.0.1.00.08 (3.0.1 patch applied to 3.0 installation),
    Oracle DB is 10.2.0.3/Linux + BI Publisher 10.1.3.2.1
    Is this a known limitation or a bug?
    Any hints are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle APEX PL/SQL reports

    Hello
    I was wondering if someone can help me with the syntax error, or if someone can give an example how to implement dynamic query based on a select list item.
    Last night I was looking how to implement simple PL/SQL report using Oracle Apex source region, but every time I try to run the page I'm getting an error "Flow=128 page=10 ORA-20001: wwv_flow_flash_chart.func_ret_sql_qry_err"
    IF I put the same query into SQL developer and replace :P10_STATUS into string 'open', query returns correct results.
    It works fine for single table, but not for inner joint.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    ======================================================
    declare
    v_return varchar2(3000);
    begin
    IF :P10_STATUS is not null THEN
    v_return := 'select p.priority, p.status, i.departments
    from help_details p, help_department i
    where status = :P10_STATUS';
    END IF;
    return v_return;
    END;

    Hi ATD,
    Thanks for the suggestions.
    Now i have replaced the code as
    Declare
    v_return varchar2(3000);
    begin
         :P1_ITEM1:=:P1_DEPTLOV;
    IF :P1_DEPTLOV IS NOT NULL

    ELSE
    V_RETURN:='SELECT ename,deptno FROM EMP ';
    return v_return;
    END IF;
    plsql reportEdit
    report error:
    ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-01403: no data found
    DEPTNO     Ename
    and in case i change
    select dname from dept ; for select dname ,deptno from dept ;
    then i m able to see only the col deptno , but in query i never used dept...
    I am unable to get where is the mistake ..
    Kindly to a favour by using the above link & checking the application .

  • Apex - SQL query report.

    Hi,
    Apex - 4.0 and Oracle -11g
    I m having a SQL Query report.
    Query
    SELECT htmldb_item.hidden(1,id) id,
      htmldb_item.select_list_from_query_xl(2,name,'SELECT name ,

    FROM  emp
    WHERE name like ''E%''') name,
      htmldb_item.select_list_from_query_xl(3,deptname,'SELECT  deptname from dept where deptid =   ???') deptname
    FROM tabel
    My problem, in the report when the Select list for 'name' has been choosen , then it should retrieve the deptname based on the 'name'.
    Is it possible ?

    you want  select list value should affected in SQL report? i mean redirect and set value to SQL report?

  • APEX 3.0: Report attribute caching

    Hi,
    I saw that the cached report attributes (like Number of Rows) are discarded when they are changed in the APEX Builder. That's great and a big improvement compared to APEX 2.2, because in the old version you had to logout and relogin to see the changes to take effect.
    But :-)
    there seems to be a small flow in that fix, because the new settings only take effect if you do something with the report, eg change ordering.
    Steps to reproduce on the "Sample Application"
    1) Go to page 3
    2) Run the page
    3) Go back into the APEX Builder, click onto the "Report" link of the "Products" report
    4) Change "Number of Rows" to 5
    5) Run the page
    => Still shows 10 records
    6) Click on the heading of "Name" to change the ordering
    => Vola, now you have the 5 records
    I think the 5 should already show up at the first run of the page, that behavior could be confusing for people.

  • Apex & SQL server reporting services

    Hi,
    Has anyone integrated SQL server reporting services with apex?
    I have a client that is running both Microsoft dynamics using SQL server reporting services and oracle.
    I am building them a web application on the oracle database and would like to use apex for the application and piggy bank onto the SSRS.
    The alternative is pl/PDF, which is too complex, jasper - can't see my client going down this road or bi publisher which is too expensive.
    I would love to use apex as it is a great tool, but unless I can integrate with SSRS I suspect I'll have to use ASP.net
    Thanks & happy new year

    PLPDF is not complex at all. Just skim through their sample reports and try to build some of yours, Then you'll realize how easy and powerful it is.

  • Can Apex be a "reporting tool"?

    I use it and think. But there is a discussion, Formatting Printable reports with Apex (pdf, xls,...)
    Please put in your input.
    Thanks

    Yes, Apex can you used for reporting. If you have large volumes of data to query and response time is important, you'll want to manually create your reports to ensure the queries are efficient. Ideally you'll install Apex in the same database, but you can install it in a separate DB and point to your 9i data source via DB links. DB links don't support some datatypes (LOBs etc) so be sure to understand what data you are going to want to query first. Using DB links can only slow your response time - but be sure to measure it before just eliminating them. I mostly use 1 Apex installation and connect to remote DB's over DB links. Apex likes to have table/view definitions locally when you're developing, so you either create locat tables and then replace with DB links once it's working - or create local views with embedded DB links. It's no majic black box - standard Oracle coding considerations apply.

  • Using Apex collection, IR report never refreshes

    I am using IR report with Apex collections. It never gets refreshed. I've to manually refresh it using browser refresh. I do have a boarderless region template for the IR report. How can I fix it?

    END IF;
    apex_collection.create_collection_from_query (p_collection_name => l_col,
    p_query => l_sql );
