APEX Form : Control Label width

Hi,
Using APEX 4.1.
I have a from with short and long(some are 100 chars) field labels. My question is how do I control the width of the labels or the label column . . . my long labels are pushing the form regions right out of the template borders. Is there a way to globally set or wrap labels?

Hm... you could use short labels instead of long ones, and put the long description into the help text of the item. This help text is shown when using the matching label template (like "optional with help").
You can also put an html break tag ("< br / >") into the label text to force a two row label at some point.

I got the solution.
The callLater() method queues an operation to be performed for the next screen refresh, rather than in the current update. Without the callLater() method, you might try to access a property of a component that is not yet available. The callLater() method is most commonly used with the creationComplete
event to ensure that a component has finished being created before Flex proceeds with a specified method call on that component.

Integrating apex form with oracle portal

I have got a senario like integrating apex form with oracle portal.I dont have any idea on oracle portals.so please let me know the basic steps on how to go ahead to integrate apex forms with oracle portal and for that what i need to have apart with my database and apex.

We have integrated Apex into Oracle Portal
Here's how we did it.
In the portal page, we have created an Element region with the following code:

Allow the user to control the width of the edit forum post input box

I would like to control the width of of the edit-forum post input box. This could be:
automatically adjust the width of the box so that the box doesn't run off the right edge of the window.
have a user global preference to set the preferred width
at least, allow the user to change the width via the change size icon. The three horizontal bars at the lower left of the input box. You can adjust the vertical dimension, but not the horizontal. TenFourFox 4.0.1. This is probably being blocked for some obscure reason.
Here is an example of an over extended right margin:
Curiously enough, the "software" let's me adjust the width & height of the add reason to edit text, but not adjust the width of the more important edit text box.

Standard Reply box can be height adjusted but not width.
Same with Advanced Editor
No Adjustment at all in HTL Editor

I do seem to remember someone posting about the width and saying they could drag it over the edge of the right hand edge (Into the grey surround)
This may have been a post in the lounge.
It didn't actually try it at the time but have played with it since and have not seen it.
Maybe it is something they "Fixed" in both senses of the word.

Passing variable from a APEX form to PL/SQL Open link in a new borwserwin

I got a apex form based on a query like :

only the field state is updateble.
It's just allowd to update the data in the DB-table with a PL/SQL Procedure:

I did put the prodzedure in a Page Process which act with a submit button.
Now to my problem: how do I get the values of my fields INTERFACE_NAME and STATE. the way I done it here does not work.

well then , you should be looping over the record invoking that package for each row. Your package handles only one row, isn't it ?
The first thing your should do is find the names of the column fields interface name and state. Open the page source or check it in firebug by looking inside the appropriate columns. The html code will be something like <input type="text" name="f01" value="" />
<input type="text" name="f01" value="" /> with the name attributes in the format fXX (01 to 50)
I am assuming that the interface name has it as f01 (XX=01) and state is f02 (XX=2), each of which corresponds to an application array(having as many elements as there on the page) by the name "APEX_APPLICATION.G_FXX"

Hi Vedant,
There are two possibilities in your case.
1.width of your column heading is too large.
include break in your column heading
for ex .. column heading is employee department number then write it as *[Employee(br)Department(br)Number]* // replace ( with < and ) with > in br
2) Value is too large
Go to Report Attributes->edit your column->column formatting->css style
In CSS style put this display:block;width:100px;white-space:wrap

Form Controls stop working after December 2014 Updates

For some users, Form Controls (FM20.dll) are no longer working as expected after installing MS14-082 Microsoft Office Security Updates for December 2014. Issues are experienced at times such as when they open files with existing VBA projects using forms
controls, try to insert a forms control in to a new worksheet or run third party software that may use these components.
You may received errors such as:
"Cannot insert object"
"Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found"
"The program used to create this object is Forms. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Forms or ensure that any dialog boxes in Forms are closed."
* Note In this last error message, the Forms text may also be replaced by the GUID of the control.
Additionally, you may be unable to use or change properties of an ActiveX control on a worksheet or receive an error when trying to refer to an ActiveX control as a member of a worksheet via code.
Steps to follow after the update:
After updating, the cached control type libraries (extender files) may be out of sync. To resolve this issue, you must delete the cached versions of the control type libraries (extender files) on the client computer. To do this, perform a search on your
hard disk for files that have the ".exd" file name extension and delete all the .exd files that you find. These .exd files will be re-created automatically when you use the new controls the next time that you use VBA. These extender files will be
under the user's profile and may also be in other locations, such as the following:

Scripting solution:
Because this problem may affect more than one machine, it is also possible to create a scripting solution to delete the EXD files and run the script as part of the logon process using a policy. The script you would need should contain the following lines

Additional step:

2. Open Visual Basic for Applications > modify the project by adding a comment or edit of some kind to any code module > Debug > Compile VBAProject.
3. Save and reopen the file. Test for resolution.
If resolved, provide this updated project to additional users.
Warning: If this step resolves your issue, be aware that after deploying this updated project to the other users, these users will also need to have the updates applied on their systems and .exd files removed as well.
If this does not resolve your issue, it may be a different issue and further troubleshooting may be necessary.

Hi,
After moving my files from SP 2010 to SP 2013 , for all my web parts i am getting A webpart or web form control on this page cannot be displayed or imported.The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe. error. I checked web.config files
and they are there as safe control and trust level is also full.
These webparts work in 2010.
Do i need to tweak something in code or distributed cache to make this thing work? The errors i see are

According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you deployed the .wsp files to SharePoint 2013.
I recommend to check if all the assemblies are put into the BIN and GAC.

Duplicate control label preventing creation of unit test using UTF

Hello Everyone,
I was trying to create a unit test for a VI using the unit test framework (evaluation version) to try out this tool. I have two questions regarding that.
1. Several sub-VIs are called by this VI. I wanted to create a unit test for each of these sub-VIs so that I could test each of them separately. But UTF provided me with the option to create a unit test for the main VI alone. The main VI is huge and getting 100% code coverage is going to be a challenging task. Is there a way by which I can create unit tests for the individual sub-VIs?
2. When I tried to create the unit test for the main VI, I got an error saying: Cannot create a test from this VI. Contains the following duplicate control labels. This is because the same indicators are being used in different cases within a case structure.
Is there anyway to resolve this issue?

If I understand what the problem is you have to controls or indicators that have the same name. To fix this you need to give them unique names. If they need to say the same thing on the user interface then you can use the caption and change the name on that so they both have the same name.

What I'm trying to do is to allow users to fill out all the certificate data and upload a file in an APEX form. Once submitted the file should be uploaded in the USER_FILES table and all the fields along with CERT_ID, which is the foreign key pointing to the file in the USER_FILES table to be populated to the CERTIFICATES table. APEX wizard forms are based on one table and I'm unable to build form on both tables.
That's why I've created a view (V_CERT_FILES) on both tables and using INSTEAD OF trigger to insert/update both tables. I've done this before and updating this kind of views works perfect. Here is where the problem comes, if I'm updating the view all the data is updated correctly, but if I'm inserting into the view all the fields are populated at CERTIFICATES table, but for USER_FILES only the fields FILE_ID and LAST_UPDATE_DATE are populated. The rest three regarding the LOB are missing: BLOB_CONTENT, FILENAME, MIMETYPE. There are no errors when running this from APEX, but If I try to insert into the view from SQLDeveloper, I got this error:
ORA-22816: unsupported feature with RETURNING clause
ORA-06512: at line 1
As far as I know RETURNING clause in not supported in INSTEAD of triggers, although I didn't have any RETURNING clauses in my trigger (body is below).
Now the interesting stuff, after long tracing I found why this is happening:
First, insert is executed and the BLOB along with all its properties are uploaded to wwv_flow_file_objects$.
Then the following insert is executed to populate all the fields except the BLOB and it's properties, rowid is RETURNED, but as we know RETURNING clause is not supported in INSTEAD OF triggers, that's why I got error:

Next my trigger gets in action, sequences are generated, CERTIFICATES table is populated and then USER_FILES, but only the FILE_ID and LAST_UPDATE_DATE.
Finally update is fired against my view (V_CERT_FILES), reading data from wwv_flow_files it populates BLOB_CONTENT, MIMETYPE and FILENAME fields at the specific rowid in V_CERT_FILES, the one returned from the insert at the beginning. Last, file is deleted from wwv_flow_files.
I'm using sequences for the primary keys, this is only the body of the INSTEAD OF trigger:

I'm surprised that I wasn't able to find a valuable source of information regarding this problem, only MOS note about running SQLoader against view with CLOB column and INSTEAD OF trigger. The solution would be to ran it against base table, MOS ID 795956.1.
Maybe I'm missing something and that's why I decided to share my problem here. So my question is how do you create this kind of architecture, insert into two tables with a relation between them in APEX ? I read a lot in the Internet, some advices were for creating custom form with APEX API, create a custom ARP, create two ARP or create a PL/SQL procedure for handing the DML?

Controlling background width/height in 3.5

Hello all, I'm stuck on a problem I've been trying to solve in 3.5. I've seen a few solutions in 4.0 and above, but that doesn't help my situation.
I want the application background image to maintain its aspect ratio, while still being as large as possible in the screen. It should update as I stretch and resize the screen. I can't find a way to do this in CSS or with the MXML. I feel like the solution might have to do with overloading updateDisplayList(), but I just can't figure out what I need to do in there.

After re-reading my post, I feel like additional clarity is needed.
As an example, if i have a png for my background that is 800X600, It should fit perfectly in a 800X600 window. Then, if I shrink the window down horizontally, the image should shrink down as well, but maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio, leaving empty space at the top and bottom.
My problem is: I do not know how to manually control the width and height of the background image. the backgroundsize style seems to scale uniformly with width AND height, so I cannot control them individually.

Can I create a PDF with form controls using JAVA?

I have a web site running on linux (Ubuntu). I'm programming in Java. Presently I use open office to create PDFs with form controls (checkboxes, lists and text fields). I'd like to be able to create in my program (Java) with form controls. JasperReports is not good because I don't see a way to create form controls. Help!!!

I am not sure what this has to do with the Acrobat SDK, as we don't have a version of SDK for Linux (or Java).

How to implement enter-query , execute-query in Apex Forms

I am new to Oracle Application Express. I want to know what is the equivalent of ENTER-QUERY and EXECUTE-QUERY features of Oracle Forms in Oracle APEX? I saw a lot of documentation, but everywhere I found that APEX forms only have 3 database actions, (1) INSERT (2) UPDATE & (3) DELETE.
Does anybody know how we can do QUERY in APEX Forms? (like we do in Oracle Developer Forms).

Oracle APEX is a web/ stateless environment. So you do not have the same functionality/ features as in a Oracle Forms environment which is session/state oriented.
You can however achieve functionality similar to Enter Query / Execute Query through other means.
The easiest is to use the Forms with Report wizard. It creates 2 pages, the first one is a report and the other a Form. Clicking on the Report rows takes you to the Form page in Edit mode where as the the Create button takes you to the Form in Insert mode.
If you want to have the enter-query / execute query on a single page it will require significant effort and skills. Try it when you have acquired some more skills in Apex.
In APEX , like any other web application, you have to think in the web paradigm and not client-server. Even Forms 11g is essentially client-server like and is session oriented through the forms applet.

Calling APEX form with dynamic parameters from Oracle Apps 11.5.8

I have successfully managed to setup access to APEX forms from Oracle Apps 11.5.8 menus utilising Form Functions passing a number of hardcoded parameter values as outlined in the document, http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/Extend_Oracle_Applications_11i.pdf.
I am now trying to ZOOM from an Oracle Form passing values of form items (dynamic parameters) to an APEX form. I have so far not been able to do this.
I've also tried using;

but this prompts for a username/password again as this bypasses the APEX Launch process that is defined in my Form Function.

Hi Daan
We do havea couple of customers doing this, they have taken two approaches:
1. Install XMLP on a separate server entirely - kick off conc request to extract data and then use Java Messaging Service (JMS) to push the resulting XML to the external server where they are using AQ to set up jobs for the XMLP server to work through, generating and delivering the final documents.
2. Set XMLP up as a virtual printer - here the conc request again generates XML but this time the result is directed to a virtual printer namely XMLP. There is a perl or similar wrapper that gets called as the printer and accepts the data, template, output format and delivery destination as parameters.
