App Store doesn't install updates

After installing Yosemite the App Store app quit installing updates. It kept remembering me there were updates to be installed. After clicking the 'upgrade all' button the showed the install bar briefly, then quit, then showed the message the updated was installed. But it wasn't and the notification remained. So, the NTP security update was not installed and I couldn't update tot 10.10.2 or Safari 8.2. The manual combo update to 10.10.2 refused to download and in the end every file I downloaded was corrupted.
So I put my Mac in Recovery Mode, performed a clean install en manually installed all my apps, preventing reinstalling any possible corrupt file from Tim Machine. After the clean install there was all kind of strange behaviour. Apps couldn't write their prefs, kept asking my password for installing a helper app, things I had never seen before. Command-I and changing folder permissions and repairing permissions with Disk Utility solved these problems in the end.
But the App Store problem is still there. Buying apps works. Downloading previousd bought apps works. But updating still fails.
I have cleaned caches, cleaned update folders, and threw away .plists. Logged in and out, rebooted and restarted in Safe Mode. Here you can see what I get. It is in Dutch, but it must be pretty clear in every language.
I have no idea what to do now.

Well, nothing has changed. I performed a clean install shortly after my last reply and for a month or so everything worked. But now it's the same. Apps I bought are updated fine, but every update from Apple refuses to install. It must be a problem with permissions. After the clean install Word refused to update. Disk Warrior and Drive Genius couldn't run because of wrong permission. Preview couldn't find the printer driver for my Canon Pixma. And the Apple updates refuse to install. After tinkering with the permissions of maps in the Library, most of the problems disappeared, but the Apple updates refuse to install. Tunes Cleaner still has permissions problems. Downloading the update to 10.10.3 and latest iTunes also tanks.
There must be another solution than a clean install, as this again will probably work for just a few weeks.
This is what happens when I connect to the App Store. xxxxxx is my username. Could this be caused by a hardware failure?

  • HT5248 The App Store doesn't show update 9.2 for Pages - What could I do?

When I open pages, I get a notification that I can update to pages 9.2, but when pages opens the App Store, the store doesn't come with any update.
I think it is because I have installed pages via an installation disk.
How can I make pages update to 9.2?
Thank you for answering my question!

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can also download the standalone updater from this page.

  • Mac App Store shows already installed updates

I'm new in Mac OS, I bought MacBook Pro ME864.
I have already install Mac OS Yosemite, but App Store keep saying that update available.
Every time when I install this update again nothing changes, but the space on my hard disk decreases.
What is wrong with it? How can I get back my memory?

    Try deleting the cache...
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore

  • Mac App Store showing already installed updates

    Hello there,
Mac App Store shows me often, but not always, already installed updates. Downloading them again doesn't help. Checking the version number in these programs, the updates are correctly installed. This is a little bit annoying and the update list gets a little bit crowded. Is there any solution for this problem? I have installed Mac OS 10.7.2. There's just one Apple-ID.
Thanks a lot for your help!

    Bill

I would just wait for it and see if it resolves itself. My iPad is constantly telling me that I have 3 updates, then when i click the update tab it says they're all up to date.
I'm wondering if it's a bug with the new 'automatic updates' feature in iOS7.
I don't think it's anything wrong on your end though.

  • App Store Doesn't See Installed App

    Hi Everyone,
I have the following hardware - iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 8 GB Ram.
This computer is over three years old, so this summer, I reformatted the hard drive, then installed Mountain Lion - I am running OS X 10.8.2
I reinstalled all of my apps but have noticed the following problems.  Any programs that I installed via the App Store, do not update themselves.  In fact, they don't show as installed.
For example, I purchased Final Cut Pro X and Compressor 4.  For the last two updates, FCPro X doesn't auto update.  For today, I saw that FCPro 10.0.7 was out.  I went to the App Store and clicked on updates, but it didn't show FCPro needing updating.
So, I went to Purchases, scrolled down, and saw that both Final Cut Pro X and Compressor 4 had "Install" highlighted - vs update.  This happened a couple months ago when I had to update both of these programs.
I am going ahead and reinstalling FCProX, but would rather have a fix that just installs the updates.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Marlo

I just tried that and got the message that "I don't have the appropriate permissions"
    Some additional information ...
Before I reformatted my hard drive, I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then, before I upgraded the computer, I used MacWorld's technique of creating an install disc with an external USB drive.
I booted off of that drive, formatted and installed Mountain Lion.
In addition, when I go to the App Store, under Purchases, Mountain Lion's bar shows "Install"  And even though I just reinstalled FCPro X and it now shows the current version of 10.0.7, it also shows "Install"
Any ideas?  I'm thinking about just installing Mountain Lion again and see if that clears up the problem.

Do you see a price next to Lion ($29.99 or local equivalent)? Click that to purchase and download it. You'll have to sign in if you're not already.
Also, your profile is wrong if you don't already have Lion (which IS 10.7).

    HI ..
The only way to reinstall OS X on a Mac already running v10.9 is to use OS X Recovery.
Starrtup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and reinstall OS X.
Please read >  OS X Recovery

  • After installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto

after installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto. How to update iphoto?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.
