App Store: download mountain lion calculating never stops

Just purchased mountian Lion, it gets to about 74mb and then does a calculate on download time, but never returns, the download never continues... any ideas why?

It appears that if you are using a 2-Wire router from BT that it will stop after between 50 and 80Mb. This seems to be down to some kludge BT have put in to stop large downloads. I've found three workarounds for this - one is to contact BT and give them the serial number of your router and they can send a firmware patch. This doesn't help over the holidays of course. Another option is to enable OpenZone on the router, disconnect ethernet and connect to the OpenZone wireless - this is what eventually worked for me although initially App Store wouldn't connect via OpenZone (left it for a while and Mountain Lion was halfway done). A third way is to connect the laptop directly to the router in bridged mode with a PPPoE connection. Not for the faint hearted:
Disclaimer: Please do not attempt this if you do not know what you are doing. You will need to factory reset the router when finished so please ensure you have a note of all settings before proceeding. Also it's sensible to make sure the Mac's software firewall is on before doing this.
1. Set up an ethernet connection between the Mac and router. Test and make sure it works!
2. In the Mac network settings, create a new PPPoE connection. Enter your BT Broadband network login details
3. Log into the router interface and go to Settings > Broadband > Link configuration
4. Set ATM-Encapsulation to Bridged LLC
5. Untick the ATM PVC search box
6. Set Connection type to Direct IP
7. Scroll down and click save
8. Untick the enable routing box
9. Click the save button again
10. Go back to the Mac network settings and click connect on the PPPoE connection.
You should now have a connection which will allow you to bypass the file size limitation of the router. When you are finished, you will need to factory reset the router and reconfigure it as before. You can also delete the PPPoE connection.

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

What happens when you try to access it?   You've not given a lot of information for people to help you.

  • How to install previously downloaded app? (Downloaded Mountain Lion, didn't install yet)

Downloaded Mountain Lion but didn't install at the time...rebooted then in App Store it showed the "app" was downloaded but there didn't appear to be any way to install it. Clicking on the item (in the "purchases" tab) took me to the app description, but without any option to install, just download. But I already did that!
Does this mean I need to re-download and therefore imply that installation is required BEFORE you reboot?????
I already tried to click again the "download" option, but that just started to re-download Mountain Lion, and so I cancelled that, and now Mountain Lion doesn't even show in the Purchases tab! So now I may have no option.
    Poor job Apple!
    Can anyone clarify the process?

Check if it's in the Applications folder. If it's not, you'll need to redownload it.

  • Lion App Store on Mountain Lion MacBook Pro 2012

    Hello,
I have a question for you helpful people. I just purchased a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion preinstalled. It is the Mid 2012 model with a Core i5 and 4 GB of RAM soon to be upgraded. This line of MBP originally shipped with Lion, but once they started shipping Mountain Lion, the same line of MacBooks began shipping with ML instead of Lion. I want to install Lion, even though I have ML on here now. I know that I can install Lion since this line of MBP originally shipped with it, but here is the question, can I use the App Store download. I tried Internet Recovery and that gave me ML, so I fired up the App Store and went to "Purchases" and re-downloaded Lion. My issue is that this line of MacBook Pro shipped with 10.7.4 originally so is the App Store version updated, and if not will I have any trouble installing the App Store version.
    Thanks for your help,
    Michael

I just wanted to update this so that anyone browsing the thread knew of the solution incase they wanted to try. You must have the most recent copy of Lion from the App Store. If Lion is already purchased, then simply click purchases and it will download the most recent version (10.7.5 at time of writing), thanks to mende1 for alerting me of this. Then you will need to create a USB from the InstallESD.dmg, there are instructions available everywhere. Reboot from the USB and wipe the drive by selecting the drive (not partition) and clicking "Erase Tab" then enter a name and choose "Mac OS Extended Journaled" then proceed to erase the drive. That will delete the Mountain Lion recovery partition as well as all data on the disk. Then proceed to install, which provided you have the latest version, will go on without a hitch. Lion is running beautifully, and much faster than Lion on my MBP. Mine shipped with ML yet Lion installed perfectly.
Just a word of advice, make sure you update ML all the way before you clean install Lion because the newest EFI update always helps.
And a big shout out to mende1 for helping me do this, thanks.

  • Cant download Mountain Lion it always stops

    Hey,
i just bought Mountain Lion on the App Store but i have a huge problem. I can't download the Mountain Lion thing because it always tells me after 175mbs [or something like that], that i can't download it and i should check my internet connection. But my internet connection is alright i can surf and do all normal things,i also rebooted my router but it does not seem to help. Do you guys have a idea of how to fix that problem?

There was a problem in the UK with BT HomeHub's and downloading Mountain Lion - BT replaced routers for the issue, worth ringing your ISP.

  • Downloading App store purchased Mountain Lion installer onto Mac with preinstalled OS X

I need to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro. I purchased ML on the app store but need to create a bootable USB key. The only Mac I have available to do this is my girlfriend's new MacBook Air.  This has a preinstalled version of Mountain Lion on it already. I know that I cannot re-use her preinstalled version of ML on my MBP but I would like to use her notebook to download the installer from my app store account.  When I try to do this, however, I get an error message saying that Mountain Lion is not compatible with her computer.  There appears to be no way to access a legitimately purchased app store version of ML on a computer where another version is pre-installed.  Could this really be the case?  All troubleshooting searches come up with people trying to illegally re-use the preinstalled OS on another computer---this is not what I am trying to do! Again, I want to access my paid in full app store purchase on a preinstalled device in order to put it back on my MBP. Help!

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air comes with a special 10.8.4 version, that makes impossible the process to download the common 10.8.4 from the App Store. You won't have this problem when Apple releases OS X 10.8.5.
You can't download 10.8.4 from the MacBook Air if you are going to install it in the MacBook Pro. You have to connect it to Internet and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • How to download older version of iPhoto from App Store on Mountain lion

I bought iPhoto in App Store 03.11.12 for Mountain Lion. When I changet a country in my Apple ID all my previous purchases disappeared from list. Couple of weeks ago I upgraded my OS X to Mavericks and of course I upgraded iPhoto too. But Mavericks works much worse on my Mac, maybe model of my Mac is too old. So I decided to downgraded it back to Mountain Lion. But when I want to install iPhoto again it jump out a sign that I can't install it because my OS X is too old and I need OS X Mavericks. What need I do to install iPhoto on my Mac?

Tell us what issues you're having and we may be able to find a solution.  How much free space do you have on your MBP.  You are running 9.5 and Mavericks, correct?
Explain in detail what problems you're having, i.e. what you see, any messages you're getting, etc.

  • Downloading App Store's Mountain Lion gives me 10.8.2 again?

    Hello.
OK, I gave up with Mac Mini's download due to the account issue. I took the 13.3" MacBook Pro (mid-2012) to a place with fast Internet (15/1 Mb/sec speeds), but its updated Mac OS X 10.8.5's App Store kept giving me 10.8.2 to download. I tried again (wasted another hour and downloaded another 4.7 GB) and still got 10.8.2 (same one from last summer). From what I read online, I am supposed to get the latest version (10.8.5). Why is it not doing that? All wanted is a local copy of the latest DMG installer file! Argh!
This App Store is so annoying, and I hate it. Thank you in advance.

    Try resetting the App Store.
    Reset       Learned from Old Toad
    If that doesn't work:
    - Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    - Quit the App Store
    - In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    - Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
    - It will take you to a folder.  Delete com.apple.appstore
    - Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.  It won’t charge you again.

  • App Store and Mountain Lion

My Mac Book has never been able to download updates via the App Store. Any updates for purched programmes I had to update by copying them from my Mini Mac. I am wondering if my Mac Book will be able to download system updates as I am now using Mountain Lion. I will have to wait until the first update.

Only updates for apps originally purchased from the App Store can be downloaded.
You'll know if an update is available if you see the red badge icon (App Store) in the Dock, or opening the App Store. If you see a circle with a number by Updates top of the App Store window, then there's an update availab.e
Keep in mind, you can only update apps using the same Apple ID they were purchased from.

  • Unable to install iPhoto from App Store after Mountain Lion Upgrade

    Hi,
I've formated and installed Mountain Lion.  Unfortunately every time I try to install iPhoto from the App store it starts the download goes up to 10MB and goes to zero.  After three times it gives up and tells me that there is an error and I should try again from purchases.
This also happens with others like garage band etc.
I can use it to install others like Xcode without a problem.
    What can I do?

There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window

  • MY app store on mountain lion times out

    Hi,
My app store times out anytime i try and load the update page. The entire rest of my app store works just fine. I can buy apps, download apps, whatever else I need to do in the app store, but at soon as I click on the update tab, the app store just spins, before eventually timing out.

Lets do a test. Create a new User Account, and try to access the MAS from there.

  • HT1338 Error 103 App Store Update Mountain Lion

I keep getting "error 103" when trying to install the iPhoto and iMovie update that comes up
on the App Store as soon as you upgrade to Mountain Lion (from Lion on a MBP mid-2009).
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem, which may arise from having multiple "stacked" updates available—Mountain Lion 10.8.1, iMovie, and iPhoto.
    This resolved it for me:
    1.     Under Software Update, click "Show updates."
    2.     In the update window, click "More ...", which shows all updates available (in my case 3), and lets you install them seprately;
    3.     Install the 10.8.1 one first, letting the computer restart;
    4.     Repeat the process to install the remaining ones.
After you install 10.8.1, you may be able to install the remaining ones together, but I did them separately. Each of them is a long download.
