App to capture high quality video; clip; bulk export high quality?

Our students capture long videos in a high quality format (.DV), then often want to define clips within the movie, and hand them off to Compressor for compression. Unfortunatly, with the changes in Final Cut Pro X, we can find no viable way of doing that, and we've searched for hours in the app and online. The closet we found was to export stems out of the FCPX timeline using Roles:
http://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/export-stems-out-of-your-final-cut-pro-x-timelin e-using-roles/
For simply wanting to define multple clips (no combining of clips involved), this is rather tedious, but moreso, when we use this technique, indeed only the video and audio of the clips we hand off to Compressor is seen and heard, but we end up with video black on both sides of the clip, which greatly lengthens the processing time, not to mention that we then need to trim the dead air afterwards.
We tried using iMovie 11, but unlike one or more previous versions, it is no longer possible to export multiple clips.
We've downloaded Adobe Premiere, and will be testing this.
Is there an OS X app that can capture high quality (.DV?) video/audio, make clips, then bulk export to .DV on disk, that doesn't cost over $500?

Thank you, I'm exporting to DV now to try that out.
I was choppy at my explanation, so let me go a little further. Maybe I do just use a DVD player to play this - but, let me explain further - maybe I'm not doing something right in creating the DVD.
I 'shared' from iMovie to iDvd - and burnt right to a DVD. Again, the movie was shaky on the computer. We played it on a DVD player, still a little shaky.. but not near as noticable - it looked pretty good. BUT - this is when the dvd stopped. I hit play, and it picked up right where it left off. I also was skipping through chapters, and it stopped all of the sudden. I had to go back to the main menu to start over. This was all done on a dvd player. Eventually, we played the rest of the video and it went ok. But, something tells me there might be a glitch in the DVD I created.... ?
Someone mentioned they had problems when exporting/burning right to dvd from iMovieHD. They said they exported out, then dragged the file into iDVD.. is that an option - if so, how would I go about doing that?

Is there anything to change in my settings to see the approx. length of the movie/project I am exporting? I actually used this in my CS3 but don't see it in CS5.
    Thank you,
    Tony

I was exporting AVI's and in CS3 it still gave the file size.
Man, it's been so long since I even looked at CS3, I can't even recall what it looked like! I do seem to remember someone else bringing this up, though, when they moved from CS3.
Practically speaking, though, if you're exporting to an AVI or MOV, you don't so much care about file size because those are either intermediates or final delivery formats for something like broadcast--they are what they are. With delivery formats--either for web or optical disc--you're typically working with capacity or bandwidth constraints, so file size estimates are more important there. I don't know if this is part of the rationale behind the disappearance of these calculations in CS5, but it sure sounds good

  • Copying/Burning Video Clips from Cmrl DVD w/o Chapters

I've used iDVD to play a cmrl music DVD (without Chapters or menu). I have created video clips that I'd like to copy and burn to a DVD so I can play the
individual songs captured in the video clips. I'm new to OSX and the iDVD
application. I'm willing to buy Toast or MacRipper or other if necessary. Would greatly appreciate any advice anyone would offer. Many thanks, glenn.

    Hi D
You got a miniDV tape - OK
Do You have the Camera - and does it have a FireWire port
same as: (Digital in/out - FireWire (Apple) - IEEE 1394 - i.Link (SONY) - DV Terminal (by Panasonic)
Then connect with a FW-Cable 6-4 pin to Your Mac
    Set in Play mode
    Start iDVD
Select "OneStep DVD" or "Magic Movie"
Put in a DVD-R disk when prompted.
    Sometimes later - Ready !
I use Verbatim DVD-R disks and at an as low x no: as I can get eg x4 (x16 often gives problem
    with any brand of DVDs)
OK You've got iDVD08 - Here You can force the burn speed down to x1 in pref-menu. This gives
    less errors. I do so.
You can also go via iMovie. Use iMovie HD 6. When ready with edit. Close iMovie and drop or import
Your movie into iDVD. Select block diagram and drop Your movie block into the upper most left box.
Now You'll get a self starting movie. But it will end on the theme You selected.
Selecting an as simple menu is a good advice. I use "Bruched metal"
    Select burn.

  • Encoding Different Quality Videos

I have created a new project with two video clips.  One video clip was encoded as 4K (3840x2160@~39Mbps) MP4.  The second clip was encoded as 1080P@~9Mbps MP4.  I have have adjusted the two clips to be the same size within a new project (3840x2160).
Question 1: When I encode this new video at 3840x2160, how does Adobe Premiere handle the lower quality video clip?  Does it average the YUV to in effect upconvert it?  Does it leave it native and the 4K native, yet maintain the edited resolution?  Understanding this would be helpful.
Question 2: Depending on the answer to the first question, is there a way to maintain the intrinsic quality levels of both videos yet changing the scale of the 1080P video?
Thank you in advance for the feedback.
    Regards,
    Daryl

    1. This depends on what you've done with the clip in the sequence.  If you scaled it, then PP will apply a scaling algorithm to the 1080 for the 4K output.  Which one depends on a few factors.
    https://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2010/10/scaling-in-premiere-pro-cs5.html
    2. No.  You lose quality when scaling, so assuming you want to see the entire image without any surrounding black, one of them will be degraded.  Having said that, the degradation of the 4K outputting to 1080 will be much less noticeable than upscaling the 1080 to 4K.

  • Use more than one transition in the same time between two video clips?

    Dear Premiere Pro programmers,
Could you please create a way to use more than one transition in the same time between two video clips without exporting to media, or creating new sequence, or using another layer (adjustment or transparent)?

I'm not sure what you are imagining, but it might be possible to achieve by key framing effects. Can you tell us what you want to do? Also, please feel free to file a feature request: http://adobe.ly/feature_request

  • Exporting video clip from FCE4 to Live Type.

What is the correct way to save a video clip when exporting into Live Type so that you can access Live Type and place video clip in background to begin working?
    Thanks.

Find the frame that you want on your Timeline. Press I and then O to mark in and out on the same frame. Go to the FCE menu bar: File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion.
Click the Format button and choose Still Image.
Click the Options button. In the new window that appears, click its Format button. Choose TIFF.
Give the file a name and a save destination.
In LiveType, make sure that it's Project Properties (Edit menu) are set to match the codec used in FCE's Sequence setting.
Go to File > Place (not Place Background Movie, that no longer applies). Choose the image that you just saved.
You might have to make some adjustments to the image depending on the codec you are using in FCE. Post again with that information please.

  • Important quality loss in high definition video in Premiere

    Hello
I'm working in a series of high definition clips in Premiere CS4, and I noticed a great loss of quality of the videos after rendering, even without applying any filter or special effect.
All of the videos were captured from a Sony HD camcorder in M2T format through HDVSplit. The M2T videos are perfect, with clear and crystalline images, typical of a HD clip.
However, after rendering in Premiere using the MPEG2 Blu-Ray HDTV 1080i or HDTV 720p format with all of the settings in high quality, the resulting video is disappointing, in no way resembling a high definition video. The same occurs using H.264 Blu-ray format, also with all the settings in "high".
The quality of the video is well below the expected, both in 1080i and 720p.
I didn't use any filter in the edition, just trim, simple transitions and some legends. The resulting video shows a significant loss of quality and definition, which resembles more a trivial SD DVD than a video that was totally recorded in high definition.
I believe that it is a codec problem, but I would like to know if somebody already observed this issue, and if some special adjustment or setting exist that I'm missing.
    Any contribution is welcome
    Thanks
    Valter-Brazil

Do you mean rendering the timeline for playback, or rendering the video with a preset for output?  You can start by making sure the quality setting in the program monitor is set to highest quality, not draft, or automatic.  You can also check the Maximize Render Quality option.  See the following taken from Adobe's website:
    Maximum Render Quality option
You can improve rendering of motion, improve deinterlacing, and improve scaling of video. Select Maximum Render Quality in your sequence settings or Use Maximum Render Quality in your export settings.
If the resulting video from an export from Premiere is low in quality, then you need to adjust the bitrate settings, or resolution settings.

  • How can I match sound quality between video clips and audio clips?

    Hi guys,
First of all let me say that I enjoy using the latest Media Encoder. However, as a novice, I have two related problems.
1.I am recording video to use with PowerPoint slides in Adobe Captivate. I am encoding the video with best quality FLV. This produces very good video,
but with a degraded audio track, even though I had filtered the audio in soundbooth. The post encoding sounds like it did before Soundbooth corrections.
    2. Some of the video recording has been set cut into audio clips to be used as background narration behind PowerPoint. The logic behind this is: that if both are
recorded at the same time, the voice quality should match.
This is far from the outcome. I have tried MP3 for the audio which of course produced the best sound- but is entirely unlike the rest of the video. I have also encoded the audio with Windows Waveform preset figuring that since the soundbooth edit was a .wav file, that there should be a reasonable match. Wrong again!
So, the audio quality of all clips is poor, and the difference between the encoded video clips, and the audio encoded clips spoils the otherwise professional result in Captivate.
Please help, all of you experts.

    Thank you.
    OS Windows 7 x 64; 3.2 MHz; 2 TB; 12 GB Ram-9GB ram allocated to Adobe.
    My process is this:
    1. The whole video and audio narration material is shot in one continuous video sesseion.
    2. The microphone is only mono, but the camera is set to stereo. Noone can work out how to change the camera to mono.
    3. In Premiere Pro 5, I select render and replace in SoundBooth.
    4. In Soundbooth, I choose Add Multichannels.
    5. In Multichannels, I delete the unwanted noisy channel, and any other unused channels.
    6. With the remaining mono channel, I then select Export and Save As option, then Stereo.
    7. Next I edit the stereo channels as needed.
    8. The imported stereo won't automatically update in Premiere Pro, so in PPR I import the new edited stereo track.
    9. I test this track in PPR, to check that it is playing R & L channels. It is. OK.
10 On the timeline, I proceed to cut apart this single stereo wavelength .
11.These clips are saved as Video, or Audio subclips.
12 From the video subclips, I export to Media Encoder, and choose either FLV4 match attributes (High Q). This I modify to custom 2 pass (Custom save).
The summary says that this is saved to MP3 Stereo.
    13. I import this into Captivate 5, but the Video outcome is Left channel only. I have tested this on Media Player/Real Player where it is also L channel only.
    14. I export my Audio subclips to Media player, and select MP3 option and this summary also reports stereo. The Audio outcome is stereo, when played in any player and in Captivate 5.
I cannot understand how a single, continuous track edited uniformly in Soundbooth to stereo, can produce different outcomes in Media player.
I would so appreciate a solution to this problem, because, in the Captivate 5 e-learning production, the switch between stereo audio (behind PowerPoints), and l. channel video is distracting. Naturally, the l. channel only is a thin sound. It is as if it had never been edited in SoundBooth at all.

  • HOW TO CAPTURE DIGITAL VIDEO CLIPS, OPTIONALY WITH WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER

I want to capture video clips and save them on disk, when a certain event occurs. If possible I prefer to do it with labview only. Optionaly to execute a record command on windows movie maker, save with arbitrary file name, and go back to standby mode for the next clip.

Do you have a camera along with the IMAQ hardware? Then, the easiest way is probably using the IMAQ VIs to acquire frames and create avi files out of them. There is some example code on how to grab images using the imaq hardware.
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.display_epd4?p_guid=B45EACE3E1DB56A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52490&p_source=external
Generating the avi files is fairly straightforward once you know how to acquire images. Lookup the help on the "IMAQ AVI" VIs.
If you have a camera hooked up through USB, you can try the documentation on the following link. I have never used labview with usb cameras though.

  • Need to capture video clip from local news story site.

Does anyone know of a way to capture video clip from an online source for adding to iMovie.
The clip I would like to get is a piece done locally and added to a local news site.

Video on the web can be in many forms - most of which aren't easy to download.
What I do, is use SnapzProX from http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
This lets you capture video (and audio) from your computer screen.
I have seen FLVR mentioned as a way to capture Flash video, but haven't tried it yet. ( http://www.tastyapps.com )
To get the best quality, you can probably buy a tape of the clip from the station at a 'reasonable' price.

  • IPhone High Quality Video Formats?

In our app we need to run a video that is high quality. Higher quality than the settings that quicktime pro presets output at. Does anyone know of what format settings I can use to export a high quality video to play?

I use 15 fps, because it looks better when used or converted into flash. If you just try uploading 30fps & 15 fps of the same file on youtube, you will see a change of the quality of the video.
I have never used the broadband settings for the FCP compressor .. But I will try it out.
    my bad for the bump.
and I know that there are tons of post like this, but I was trying not to get this post into a huge discussion. I was just trying to get people to just post their specs just like I have. Then we could have 1 post that answered all the questions of the specs of what people use & then people wouldn't have to search through everything..

Will there be improved video quality on youtube and other video streaming on 4G compared to existing 3G connctions?  The ipad appears to dumb down video streaming in 3G compared to streaming the same thing on wifi.  It is often highly pixelated and blocky,   Will the new ipad allow higher quality video streaming over 4G, i.e. the same quality as wi-fi?

Nice response polevod. And Welcome to Apple Discussions!
For Hilton, in addition to the above suggestions, I personally use EvoCam for capture of our family weekend iChat's. It's a try before you buy app that is well worth the $25 registration fee. Been in use for almost 2 years and all app's should be so simple to use. Good Luck, and be sure and check back to let us know how you make out.
