No internet access via ethernet port

Hi, have been using my emac via ethernet cable to router, for many months with NO problem accessing internet and others cabled to same router also having no problem and I have used my Pwr Mac wtih no problem and have never had to make any specific settings to either to access the net via the router which gets its wifi signal from elsewhere. With system preferences > network > ethernet open I can see the the router is being recognized cause it appears or dissappears as soon as I plug or unlug the ethernet cable. I open "Activity Monitor" and occasionally, very briefly, there will be data incoming( green spikes ) or outgoing( red spikes ). HD verified OK, ran disk permnissions and scripts. Have not yet run Apple or other( Micro-mat ) hardware testing programs tho I will later. Does anyone know if there is a PLIST file that can get corrupted that would affect ethernet port functioning properly? My guess it is hardware but since I can see the router is recognized makes me wonder about corrupt file ergo a system error or possibly inloaded some file that caused conflict. I also booted from my external drive and tried accessing from the cloned OS system and still did not work. The cloned system is the original has never been updated, nor has any of the applications in clone, so, if it was "system" problem the clone should have worked. However, I had cloned user ergo newest documents, library etc, so that would be the only possible source of conflicts when booted from clone system....Thx Ran

Ping test should be interesting.
Start by pinging router address. Should be able to ping building router if you can figure out it's address.
Could you go wireless to building net? You might buy a usb dongle.

*MAC Address*
Every ethernet port has a unique MAC Address. A router can block on a MAC Address. That is why I suggest you check out your router.
Note MAC is not Mac. MAC is all upper case.

*Ethernet port hardware*
I'd say this was some kind of strange hardware problem.
*Dns problem?*
It has symptoms of a DNS problem. The little traffic is a symptom of the problem. You said all the numbers were the same, however.
Verify DNS
apple > system preferences > network
Double click on network connection you are using.
Pick the TCP/IP tab.
Verify that you have a DNS Server. If you do not, look on your windows machine and see what the net address is. You can also pick using DHCF and still enter you DNS server address.
You can use
harddrive > applications > utilities > network utility
to diagnose the situation.
You can ping google.com. Result:

If pinging 17.254.3.183 works but pinging Google.com doesn't. You have a bad DNS Server address.
BDAqua suggests in a post.
You can use OpenDNS for looking up web addresses.
Put these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for a try...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
I think they now pretend you need to join to use, but you don't.

example 162.33.160.100
You will need to use a different number.

  • On Cold Boot Up of FP2010 Locks up if Accessing Via Ethernet Port

Ok The FP2010 is powered up and if a client attempts to communicate via
ethernet to the application that is launched on startup the unit goes
off in the weeds and appears to stop the startup process.  This
happens with any client app or even IE accessing the VI web page.
Any reason for this? Is there a fix or way around it?
    TIA,

    Hi David,
Could you try running a shipping example program on the FP 2010?  Please do this and let me know if you run into the same problem.  Also, here is a link to a FieldPoint troubleshooting tutorial: Troubleshooting Communication Problems with the FieldPoint Ethernet Network Modules.

  • Connecting via ethernet ports on an AEBS that is extending a wifi network

I tried to get this out on the subject heading (trust me guys I searched the forums first but I couldn't quite find this issue)...
I have a Airport Express connected via ethernet to a network. I am trying to use an AEBS to capture that connection and then share it via ethernet ports (LAN?) to a PC that has no wifi card.
I setup the AEBS to extend the existing airport express wifi and that worked fine and I can connect to it fine via wifi on my laptop. But the pc that is plugged into the AEBS via ethernet is not able to connect.
    Thoughts?

In order to enable the Ethernet ports on the 4G Extreme for the Mac Pro, both AirPorts need to be configured for an extended network. Please read through the steps provided in the link to see if you may have missed any steps.

  • Connecting printer and internet via ethernet port

My iMac has only one ethernet port, and previously I had the printer hooked up to it. Now we have high speed internet but it requires the same port. When we try switching back and forth, the internet still works but the printer doesn't.

    Hi
I would recommend that you invest in an inexpensive router, which should include a number of (commonly 4) ethernet ports. This will live between your high-speed modem and all your network devices, including your computer and your printer. You can then, of course, add more wired computers , and they will all be able to access the printer.
D-Link and Linksys are decent brands for simple home routers.

  • Internet from macbook to PS2 via ethernet port on macbook

I am currently connected to the internet through the airport thing from a router on my macbook. I have read online that you can share your internet connection to another computer through your ethernet port.
My question is, can you have the internet connection run from my macbook to my ps2 through an ethernet cable? I tried the internet sharing thing in osx but it didnt work and I dont want to buy an expensive wireless adapter.

Sure, it's been done, but if you use encryption you'll have problems.
Setup Internet Sharing on the Mac, wait up to 45 minutes for any SMB device to announce itself, (crazy, I know)
Set the Router on the {S2 to be the IP of the MacBook.

  • Connecting TC to Wireless Internet source(no ethernet ports) to create another WLAN to use that internet.

    Hello,
I have a Telstra Turbo Elite wireless mobile boroadband device (see link) this device has no ethernet ports, it only connects to a mobile BB signal and then provides a WLAN that you can access wirelesly.
I want to connect my TC to this device wirlessly and then create a separate WLAN network that my household devices can connect to and use the internet connection provided by the Telstra device. So that I can use the TC to store my digital media and backup my laptop aswell.
    How do I do this?
I tried turning the TC into a WLAN bridge but then i could not access the 2TB HDD in it and thus could not use Time Machine either.
    Please Help.
    Simon

I want to connect my TC to this device wirlessly and then create a separate WLAN network that my household devices can connect to and use the internet connection provided by the Telstra device
    Unfortunately, this is not possible.
The TC needs a wired Ethernet connection at its WAN port to be able to create a wireless network.
The only way that this might work would be to add a wireless to Ethernet bridge, then feed that signal to the WAN port on the TC.

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Wireless Internet access via requires unplugging cable modem -

I have a brand new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.1) and Airport Express (7.4.2). I have high speed Internet via Comcast/cable modem. I spent 30 minutes with the Apple Tech Support folks and was finally able to get wireless internet access. However, after I shutdown and reboot, the only way I can wireless internet is to unplug the internet cable from both the wall plug and cable modem and unplug the modem, both for about two minutes. This isnt what I had in mind when I crossed over from the dark side (PC laptop world) and am having buyer's remorse. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem (i dont want to unplug cables before each session on the internet)?

    Mr. Timmons,
Thank you so much for the response.  I thought the complete reboot would work, but apparently not.  I followed the directions precisely, even waiting a few minutes longer than suggested for each of the steps.  My air express is still blinking yellow.  I think the issue has something to do with the DHCP and the IP address which are diifferent. The IP address is one series of number (starts with 169), and the LAN IP address is another number (starts with 10). Status on airport express show yellow for internet connection, and yellow for no DSN servers. When I go to the internet tab of airport utility, it shows the iPv4 address starts wutg the 169 number. When I click on the network tab, the DHCP range starts with the 10 number.  When I open the Network Options window, the iPv4 DHCP range starts with the 10 number.  I am at a loss as to how to get them to match up (with either the 169 number or the 10 number).  V/R sjbgtmo

  • Problem connecting my macbook pro to a wired internet connection via ethernet cable adapter

I am having a problem connecting my macbook to a wired internet connection in an area in my workplace where there is no wifi.  The macbook works fine on the same internet connection via wifi in other parts but when I add it as a wired connection it doesn't show any connection.  I have turned off wifi to make sure that it is not trying to pick up a poor connection but I still can't get this to work.  I think I am trying to set up the connection properly but can't be completely sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

Open System Preferences>Network and make sure Ethernet is selected. If it is, open Advanced Settings (at the bottom of the Network window). Click on the TCP/IP tab. Configure IPv4 should be set to "Using  DHCP".
Configure IPv6 should be set to "Automatically". When those are set click the "Renew DHCP Lease" button

  • Load Balance guest Internet access via two different DMZ zones at two sites

    Hi Sir,
My customer has the following unified wireless guest access requirement:
    - There are 2 internet links and dmz zones at two different locations, Site A and Site B
    - Data centre is at Site A
    - WiSM is proposed to be installed at the Cat 6500 in Site A
    - Lightweight AP are distributed across Site A, Site B and other branches
    - Only one anchor WLC is proposed at Site A, DMZ zone to provide guest internet access
My customer would like to load balance the guest via the two internet link at Site A and Site B but with the same SSID across all locations. Can it be done since only one anchor at Site A? How about puttting another anchor WLC at Site B, DMZ zone? But how can i establish two EoIP tunnel to two different anchor WLC from a single WiSM?
    Thanks for your help
    Delon

You can... but you can't control where the traffic will flow. The wlc will determine which DMZ wlc it will use. The wlc will load balance, but traffic in site A might go to site B. I currently have deployed that senerio in multiple client installations....

  • Airport Extreme Sharing printer to Leopard and Windows 7 via Ethernet port.

    Hello!
My home office is in a mixed environment, 1 iMac with Leopard 10.5.8, and the other iMac running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on bootcamp. Both computers are connected to the Airport Extreme (dual band version, firmware 7.4.2) via Ethernet. I attached the HP LaserJet P1006 to the Airport's usb port in order to share the printer to both platforms.
My problem is that, I got the printer installed on Win 7 by using bonjour print service v2.02 without any problem as it said works in both Ethernet and wireless, I sent a print test from win 7 successfully, then I did another test from leopard ( as I presumed it should works also), however, it says "the printer is in use". and wouldn't print. I tried restart the Airport Extreme and tried print from leopard again and that was fine but then Win 7 couldn't print.
Is there any solution for Mac + Win environment like my description? If I have 2 computers running on OS X they print perfectly well. Thanks all!
My solution for now is to physically plugging the printer to where I need to print from. I use Ethernet wired both computers is because I want to take the advantage of the gigabyte lan port for speedy files transfer between both computers.

If networking isn't working out for you, you may want to try out a swtich. Best Buy sells one by IOGEAR that allows for two USB connections to tie into one computer. So long as windows 7 can either download its own driver for the printer for basic features, or if you want to download canon's driver this solution will work. The only draw back is having to bring the laptop near the printer when you need to print.

My opinions do not in any way shape or form represent Best Buy's Official decisions.

  • Conneced to wireless router but no internet access via wireless

I don't recall the physical connections being directly attached to the router.  The router in question is a Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS.  My initial thought was since we rolled out Voip fairly recently one of our phones might have ganked the IP address, but that is not the case.  Each of them have their own IP addresses and I don't see any conflicts.  I am also able to ping the router and log into it remotely from my office, which is in a different city. Could it possibly be a firmware issue?

    Hi Everyone,
One of my offices' routers is broadcasting but has no internet access.  The office does have internet if you hardwire in but outside of that nothing has worked so far in regards to the WiFi.  I have power cycled the router and modem to no avail and DHCP is enabled but no one can get online via WiFi.  It seemed to just up and decide one morning that it was not going to allow internet access.

  • Epson stylus pro 3800 will not print via ethernet port

Recently I set up a sling box utilizing my Apple Extreme's singular ethernet port. In order to free up the port for the slingbox I removed the epson printer and directly connected it to my Imac through its ehternet port. I print all my photos from this Mac so i do not need the network accessibility. The Imac does not show the printer at all but does continue to communicate with the wireless usb printer, a Brother. The question i have is how can i get my Mac to recognize the Epson through the ethernet port?

As you probably have noticed this is way out of the range of my apple-knowledge:
Where can I find the coupps-folder?
And how can I reinstall them?
    The Printer Setup Repair says:
2 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. Certain files and directories are deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. These files and directories, if required, will be recreated during normal printing.
I really don't want to reinstall OS X.
By the way, thank you very much for your help.

  • Airport Extreme wont pass internet through via ethernet OR wireless ...

I have an iMac in my house that can receive internet flawlessly when plugged directly into my ethernet jack in the wall (connected to my router). I can fwd (share) that through airport to my computers in my detached garage.
I have a spare AExtreme i plugged into the ethernet wall connector and then to the iMac and internet pages wouldn't load nor would wifi airport work when joined to that AE network.
My routers firmware is on the latest edition so i dont think that's it. This AE has been sitting in the box for months so maybe its software/firmware is out of date? how do i update AE firmware?
Any clues as to whats my issue?

I am running into the same problem.
My setup was working fine until a few days ago when I noticed the flashing amber.
    My setup is/was:
    iMac 2GHz Intel Core2Duo
    OS X 10.5.2
    Airport Extreme Gigabit
Comcast Cable: Modem to AE via ethernet - AE to iMac via Ethernet - AE wireless to powerbooks.
(This setup was working fine for the last 2 months when i bought the AE - I was not using Airport on the imac since i was connecting via ethernet.
Now using that setup, I get a green light on the AE, Network status via System Pref all seem OK, but cannot connect.
Right now, I can only connect directly via ethernet to my modem. I turned on the iMac Airport, it recognized the AE and downloaded a firmware update. But this did not change the situation. I did do a reset a couple of times, as well as just left the AE off all day.
Not sure what to do next. I am currently using internet sharing sparingly in the house via iMac airport.
