AppEx database vs Production database

We have a seperate database for AppEx whiich uses the NLS_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII, our production database is going to be migrated to AL32UTF8 in the near future. Is there any reason we have to migrate the AppEx database to AL32UTF8 ?

Hello,
If you want to show specific characters from the AL32UTF8 characterset you want to migrate your APEX database as well.
What I didn't understand, is APEX not running in your production database? (if so APEX will be migrated automatically)
Isn't in your DAD already specified UTF8?

Dimitri

  • Can not find product , sku attributes data in database table

    Hi there,
I find it really strange to find data in database related to product and sku. I set up the commerce reference store and store is up and running fine. Catalog is fine too. I am not able to find data related to sku attributes in database.
I have a product_id xprod2511 which has 11 child skus such as xsku2511_1, xsku2511_2 and so on. sku xsku2511_1 is blue color and size 4. When I search for this two sku attributes (color and size) information in dcs_sku_attr table with sku_id as xsku2511_1, no rows returned. In fact, I looked into few other sku tables but I am not able to find the information about color and size of a sku in any database table.
this is the query I am running:
    select * from dcs_sku_attr where sku_id = 'xsku2511_1'
Can someone please let me know the table name where this information regarding color and size resides in?
    Thanks a lot.

In dyn/admin If you try and view the definition file of ProductCatalog repository, then under sku item descriptor you would see the color and size property which would be under some table tag, that table tag table name should be the table holding these values.
the other question(may be silly) is that I hope that you are executing sql in correct schema, that is cata or catb schema (select * from catA.dcs_sku_attr) where the actual product catalog data resides.

  • How to Protect your Custom Access Database Product - so that you can sell & distribute it?

I'm looking for an update on this topic as I have been away from Access for a couple of years and have not kept up with the latest.
Hopefully they have made it easier to design, develop, sell and distribute custom database solutions. So here goes...
    Question A:
If one develops a custom database product with Access 2013 what is the current best way to...
1 - Prevent it from being (too easily) copied
2 - Prevent it from being (too easily) reverse engineered
3 - Prividing a time limited free demo copy?
4 - Providing a demo copy with limited functionality... like limiting the number of records in an important table, or whatever?
5 - What have I left out of this list that should be considered for protecting ones investment in the development of the product? (other than copyright, of course.)
    Question B:
What is the latest on being able to migrate an Access database to the cloud?
    1 - Entirely online
2 - Part in the cloud and part on the users machine
3 - And what about all that VBA code - is there no way to make that work in the cloud and/or on a web server... or does it all have to be tossed and all the coding redone?
    Question C:
What are other alternatives solutions for selling your custom database application while protecting all your investment in developing it?
1 - Write the front end in C++  (so that it is fully compiled) and the back end in ASP with MS SQL Server? (or alternative server side solutions)
2 - Write the whole thing as a server side solution with browser interface?
    3 - Or what?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Fran_3,
    >>What is the latest on being able to migrate an Access database to the cloud?
In my option, the Access Web app would be a better choise.

    Tony

  • How to port database changes from development to a production environment

How do I port database changes from the development to the production environment?
I am using v8 and have always had to redo everything using the schema manager all over in the production environment. Is there an easy way to generate a script, for example to dump the database changes on the development machine to be executed later on the production machine?

This should already be a clearly defined change control process. Once a procedure, function, package, trigger, or whatever completes the testing rounds, it should be promoted to production.
Forgive me if it seems I'm trivializing, but I don't see the problem, just copy the object(s) from your software library (or development) into production using whatever tool works best or has been chosen. If you are doing data copies then you have various options again including good old export/import.

  • Oracle 11g 64 bit on Linux - Restore failure in production database

    Hi guru,
We used to take full hot backup with the help of BackupExec of Symantec in our production database. We have two different oracle database (not cluster).
We defined same policy for both .We defined schedule on Symantec to take full hot backup every night of database on tap drive. At any point of time we maintain only 2 full backup for each database on tap and then recycle it.
Yesterday suddenly storage of database failed for both.?It was complete failure so we did not have any option but to restore last night full backup.
It has done successfully for one database but when we tried to restore second from last night backup it thrown error :
channel ch0: ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece BE_9kjsfol6_1_1
ORA-19507: failed to retrieve sequential file, handle="BE_9kjsfol6_1_1", parms=""
    ORA-27029: skgfrtrv: sbtrestore returned error
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text
then we tried to restore backup of last to last night and it gave again error :
channel ch0: ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece BE_9djsaman_1_1
ORA-19507: failed to retrieve sequential file, handle="BE_9djsaman_1_1", parms=""
    ORA-27029: skgfrtrv: sbtrestore returned error
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text
But we have seen log of Symantec at the time of backup and it said that backup has successfully completed.
right now I am in big trouble I tried almost all possible combination of symantec to restore database but got no success.I used script generated by symantec and tried to run that on RMAN directly but it is throwing same error.
Please help me if possible an throw some light on exception (as I understand it says it is not able to find some piece on tap but we have not touched tap and tap media is completely safe.)
I am pasting complete text log generated by Symantec at the time of restore attempt:

  • Copying Production Database to another location

    Hi,
We are currently upgrading to a 11g and as part of the process I need to copy our production server 10g to our new hardware. I want to carry out a couple of dry runs to get timings and test the process. I will be keeping the same SID.
Are there steps I can take to isolate the copied oracle database to ensure it does not try communicate with any other systems.
I come from an SAP background and in SAP there are a number of steps to isolate a system. I'm looking for similar steps that would be used in oracle e.g.
    stop job scheduler
stop all inbound and outbound communication
    Lock interactive users
    Stop outbound email
    etc...
    Thanks
    Jim

Somwhat dependent on your method of creating the new database on the new server, but if you don't start a listener on that server, no one that is not directly logged on to that server will be able to connect to the database. As for outbound connections from the database, you might have to get a bit creative, depending on where and how the outbound connections are defined.  I'd start by not haveing a working tnsnames.ora file.  Then check the defintions of any db links in the existing database.  If they hard-coded destinations, make sure those destinations are un-resolveable/unreachable from the new server.  I wouldn't worry about the job scheduler during the dry run.  As long as there is no outside communication from them, who cares if they run?  With the listener shut down, no outside users can connect, so no reason to lock user accounts.
Perhaps you could cover all bases at once by simply configuring the firewall on the new server to disallow any communication at all ...

  • Creating a test database from backups of the production

    Hello Experts,
I am a newbie with very much new in Oracle. I have been provided with the inc0 backup(which comprises even the controlfile backup) of the production database (PROD) taken through RMAN and asked to create a new test database (TEST) using the backup. Can anyone please provide me the steps on how to restore it and create the new database ?
    Database version 10.2.0.4
I am aware of duplicate database concept using RMAN, but I have been asked to not to connect to the target (PROD) database while duplicating. So, I need to create the test database by using the backup of prod database without connecting to PROD database. Please guide me.

    Refer
    http://arjudba.blogspot.in/2008/05/restore-and-recover-database-to-new.html
RMAN restore database from another backup of different database name
When you are restoring using the backup of the production database, the db_name would be same on the auxiliary database. Once you restore and recover the database in your test server, you can change the db_name from prod to test by recreating the controlfile

  • Creating standby database from ASM production database in standard edition

    Hi,
I am using oracle 10g release 2 standard edition. I recently created a database instance and wanted to create a standby database instance. After sorting out how to achieve this without managed standby and data guard I finally got it working and the shipped archive logs are applied and working well on the standby database.
Now I am thinking of re-creating my production database and using ASM for storage managment. By doing this can a standby database still be created from a primary database using ASM? I want to be sure I can before I commit to using ASM for the production instance and manually creating a standby database from that instance.
Note: I am using standard edition not enterprise edition.

    Hi
For Oracle SE standby, you can visit www.anbultechnologies.co.uk , they have a brilliant product name DRMC which is Automatic disaster recovery solution with automatic failover in case primary goes down due to any reason.
We are using this product for more than 2 years and it works like a dream using Oracle Standard Edition. We have depolyed more databases and Standby solution within the prices of 2 EE edition licenses.
You can give ma try as well.

    Hi All,
I have a query regarding database portability in Exchange 2010 server.
I have restored a Journaling Database which is ~ 350 GB and just wanted to check if i dismount the prod database which does not have any data in the DB and only journlaing mailbox is pointed to this DB , can i move restored DB .edb file to the production
server physical location and mount it, will the journaling account will connect to this restored database which i have copied. or do i have to run any command which will reconnect the mailbox.
    BR/Deepak

    Hi,
You can use the Connect-Mailbox -Identity -Archive cmdlet to re-connect an archive mailbox.
You can refer to the following article.
