Apple - Auto Brightness Is Not Right - 32GB 3G S

Not sure if anyone else is having issues, but my phone brightness is left at the default middle level and auto brightness is left on. However, with auto brightness on - it's making the phone too dim and harder to see. I have to turn auto brightness off to make it better.
Anyone else have this problem? I never had this issue with my 3G.

Set your brightness to medium - middle. Turn on auto brightness.
Then...
Go in to a bathroom, keep the lights off and close the door. Put the phone to sleep (press the power button real quick) then when it clicks off, press the home button then slide to unlock. It should adjust and be dimmer. This is how I know to "force it" to do that.
You can also take a flashlight and shine it directly on the phone to the left of the earpiece (that is where the sensor is). Your screen should go full brightness pretty quickly.
If this does not happen - your auto brightness is not on or your phone is defective (bad sensor).

  • Auto brightness does not work after upgrade from iOS5 to iOS6 on my iPod touch. Is this intended by Apple, or is it a bug?

I attempted to ask this question, yesterday. However, I am not used to typing with my thumbs, yet, and messed it up some. So, I will give this another try. Auto brightness does not work after upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6 on my iPod touch. Is this intended by Apple, or is it a bug?

Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
iOS 6 changed how that feature works.

Resetting may help.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
You only want to do this if your iPhone won't turn on or off and is completely frozen. Instead, try Resetting all settings in Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
I completely disagree.  Reset All Settings (your suggestion) would reset the OP's preferences and settings.  By contrast, resetting the iPhone (as I suggest) changes no preferences, settings, or any other data.  It simply starts the iPhone over, with no data loss.

  • Auto brightness does not work anymore, need help!

Auto brightness quit working... I see a several posts but no replies? Anyway to fix this? Is this an iso6 issue?

If you have tried the troubleshooting steps for the iPhone, (power off/on, reset, restore) and none of them work, then I would say it is probably a hardware issue. The sleep button can fail after a period of time and you state you are using a 3G, so it is possible it was failing before you did the upgrade and that it has finally given up. It may be you need to either look for a repair facility to repair it or replace the phone. Up to you.

  • Does anyone have auto brightness problem?

    hi
I just got an ipod touch replacement yesterday and i just realize my auto brightness setting is weird. Because sometime when i drag the on button but the auto brightness is off. But when i drag the off button the auto brightness is on. do u guys think is the softwear problem or hardwear problem? Also do u guys think that i should go back to bestbuy and exchange it?

I can confirm the auto-brightness works on my 5th week iPod Touch 32GB.
I've run some experiments and I think I've got it covered right now. Let me explain.
First of all the slider has to be the minimum brightness this is the amount of brightness you start with when you unsleep/powerup your device. This is easy to test and verify because if you push the slider to the outer left and you put your device into sleep and wake it again (in a dark room) then you'll have a very dim screen; with the lowest possible brightness setting. I then turned on my strong desk light and after approximately 1 second an amount of brightness kicked in to compensate for the extra light shining directly at my ipod.
I can also confirm that it doesn't work backwards, because when I turned off my desk light, the previously added brightness did not go away. My iPod didn't revert to the very dim screen. But when I put my ipod to sleep and wake it yet again (with desk light turned off) I had yet again the very dimmed screen. So it can be confirmed that, at least on my device, putting the device to sleep and wake will trigger the ambi light sensor.
Secondly I've put the slider to approximately 1/6th of a full bar; I find 1/6th of a bar a perfect minimal brightness setting for use in a dark room. So yet again I've put my iPod to sleep in a dark room. After waking it up it launched with 1/6th of brightness level. Then I switched on my strong desk light again and after approximately 2/3 seconds this time it added more brightness to compensate for the light.
In both situations I don't know exactly how much brightness there was added but I think it's percentage based on the amount there has to be compensated for the extra light source that's shining directly on the iPod.
For a final test I've put the slider to like 5/6th, which is a very bright setting, totally not necessary to have as a minimal brightness setting but let's use it for this test. Put iPod to sleep, wake it up again (yet again a dark room). The iPod launches with a very bright screen now (5/6th of its capacity). Now let's shine the desk light again directly onto the iPod. This time it enhanced the brightness a tiny little bit, almost unnoticeable. But it did compensate a little bit for the extra light. It only has to compensate for a little bit anyways because the minimal brightness level was already set to 5/6th of the bar.
    So to conclude:
    * auto-brightness on iPod Touch 32GB works
    * the slider is used to set the minimal brightness level
    * brightness compensation kicks in at roughly 1-3 seconds after you've awaken the iPod and is under the influence of a strong light source
    * after auto-brightness compensated the brightness it will not revert to a more dimmed screen unless you put the ipod to sleep again and wake it up
I hope this clears things up for all those who are having doubts.

  • Auto brightness

the auto-brightness DOES NOT WORK.  useless and pointless if I have to manually adjust myself.  please let me know if this function is working for you

    Hello Aloon,
I recommend following these steps when the brightness is not automatically adjusting:
Display does not adjust brightness automatically
The ambient light sensor brightens the display when using the iPhone in brightly lit environments, and dims the display in low light. To test this sensor, do the following:
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case. If there is a protective film on the display, remove the film.
Verify that the Auto-Brightness setting (Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper) is set to ON, and that the Brightness level is set near the middle of the slider.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen and then press the Sleep/Wake button to lock the iPhone.
In a bright environment, cover the top third of the iPhone to block the light, then press the Sleep/Wake button or the Home button to wake the phone. Slide the slider to unlock the phone.
Notice the brightness of the screen and application icons; they should be somewhat dimmed.
Remove the cover from the top of the display and in a few moments the display should get brighter.
Learn more about the brightness setting.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Auto-Brightness and Multitasking

    Hi,
Auto Brightness does not seem to do anything? With the setting both off or on, the brightness stays constantly at the single setting chosen on the slider. Where is the ambient light sensor on the 4th gen, and does it even do anything?
Also, multitasking doesnt seem to be efficient. Every program that is exited via using the home key remains in the task manager (double tap home). This seems like a pain as the user has to manually exit each program via this menu?
    Thanks for any comments.

It is NOT a multi task bar. It is a recently used apps bar.
All of those apps are NOT running, they have been recently used. You do not need to close them, as most apps do not run in the background.

  • Has anyone else noticed that Auto-Brightness does work on iOS 6?

I recently  noticed that Auto-brightness does not work under iOS 6 for my iPhone.  Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

    It is not the iOS.
If resetting doesn't solve it, try restoring.

  • Any tips that might make auto brightness work?

The auto brightness on my iPad Mini (iOS 7.0.4) does not work. I have tried everything. Resetting all settings to resetting network settings does not work for me. Any tips that might make auto brightness work?

Auto brightness will not darken your screen when you enter a dark place until you lock/unlock the screen. If it did the screen would darken everytime something covered the light sensor (which is opposite the home button on the top of the screen next to the front camera).
Autobrightness will automatically raise the brightness of the screen (slowly) when the ambient light brightens.

  • Auto-brightness confusion?

    Hey.
So I've been searching around the web on how to improve an iPhone 4S's (and my iPad 2's) battery life. One of the tips is about brightness. There are a lot of websites saying that you should turn on auto brightness, while others say you shouldn't cuz backlight also drains the battery, so i'm confused.
Can anyone please make a better explanation on what should I do with my brightness to improve my phone's battery life and if I should turn on auto brightness or not?

Can't say for certian why you;re seeing the behavior you're seeing but sometimes just the smallest difference can it what is typed can cause it to or no to autofill.
You can see all you autofill entries by going to Metadata->Edit Autofill List... you can also change or remove any that are causing problems.

  • The auto-brightness of my iPhone is not working, and my system is really unstable. What is Apple going to do about those bugs?

I would like to know when Apple will fix these terrible bugs of the last software updates. My phone isn't working properly. I'm considering the idea of getting another smartphone...

If your system is unstable, you should consider restoring your device through itunes to get a fresh version of the operating system.
If your auto-brightness isn't working, it's possible that there is an issue with your phone's ambient light sensor which is hardware and not affected by an iOS update
Are you using a case? if so, it's possible that you're using one that was made for an iPhone 4 instead of a 4S which has an ambient light sensor that is a few millimeters to the left, so some iPhone 4 cases could cover it slightly, causing the ambient light sensor to not work as affectively

  • After i made update to ios system the auto brightness for screen is not working any more although i am turning it on

Before i make update the auto brightness was working properly
The screen was very low bright in the dark automatically and high bright in light

Have you tried a reboot of the iPhone?  Hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
My iPhone went to full brightness all the time after updating to iOS 6.1.3.  A reboot seems to have helped make it work as it should.  Also check Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper and see how it is set, reduce the brightness level it is too bright for you.

  • Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.

Hello! Noticed that the Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.
It works correctly only when such a dark place, then unlock the iPad brightness will be at a minimum. Likewise, if unlock iPad in a room with light, the brightness will adjust to the surrounding space.
If I turn light into a dark room, the brightness slider does not move, and stands on the site. Checked on the iPhone 5S, there problems are not present. Auto Brightness is working correctly.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english!

iPad audio output does not work, except for on Siri. The mute button is not on, and the volume buttons have no effect/ don't work (unless Siri is open). I have reset the iPad, tried iOS7 and iOS8 resets, which didn't help.
iOS 8 isn't even out yet. If you are running iOS 8, I assume you are a developer and if you are, you are in the wrong forum to try to get help. If you are not a developer and you're running iOS 8, maybe that's why you are having problems on the iPad.
The audio output mostly works when headphones are out in, but has a tendency to cut out from time to time. Without headphones, Audio might start working again briefly from time to time, but most the time it doesn't.  Any ideas on what is wrong with it and how to fix it?
The type that I made bold doesn't make sense. Is this a typo and you mean that " headphones are not in"?
I did take it to an Apple Store, but the inncorrectly insisted that my speaker was bust and it would cost £250 to replace the whole iPad!
And you know they are incorrect because you get sound here and there from time to time? That fact doesn't prove that something isn't working correctly inside. You could very well have a bad connection inside the device causing this, but somehow you seem to know that's not the case.
