  • APPLE CARE AGREEMENT NIGHTMARE

I'm not sure if this is the right section but I saw no better place to list it.  When the iphone 4 released I purchased 5 for my family.  I had 5 new apple care agreements purchased separately.   I registered the agreements to the phones and they showed up online when I logged into support online.  After about a month one of the phones was acting up.  I went to the apple store and they swapped it out.  All was well.
I looked at my agreements about a month later when I purchased another apple piece of hardware and realized one of the phones was missing.  I called apple and they told me after quite some time of research the agreement was not moved to my new phone and it was somehow assigned to someone in a different country (don't recall where).  They assured me the problem would be resolved and all the data was in the system. I hung up and waited.
A month went by so I called again.  Same scenario as last call with the same results.  I have now called no less than 12 times.  I have been assigned different case #s periodically.  Now one of my other phones no longer shows on my account.  Apple support tells me they show the 2nd phone listed on their side and no idea why I am unable to see it listed on my account.
I last spoke with apple on 6/28/11 and the rep assured me he would escalate the case and call me back.  No return call so today I logged in and checked the case online.  To my dismay the case says it was closed on Feb 9th.  How can that be???  I spoke with the rep on 6/28/11.
The phone is now out of warranty and the apple care agreement should kick in.  The phone has been having some issues today and I started thinking I am about to get screwed by apple since they won't fix my apple care agreement.
Can anyone offer any advice as to how I can fix this?  When I call support they tell me there is no way to contact the department that resolves these matters and they can't even call that department.  All they can do is escalate cases.  I can't believe a company like apple would put a loyal customer through this much grief!  Can anyone out there offer any help???

Call the Apple tech support number and ask to speak with someone in Customer Relations. When you get a CR representative on the line, explain the situation to them including the names of the people you spoke to and when they promised a callback, provide all the case numbers you've been given, and ask for assistance in obtaining a resolution to this problem.
That's all anyone here can suggest, I'm afraid.
    Good luck and regards.

  • HT5693 i am giving my computer to my parents can they take over the Apple Care agreement?

I am giving my Mac to my parents, can they take over the apple care agrement as it has 2 years left...

Yes. The warranty applies to the computer. Your parents do not have to do anything. If the Mac needs a warranty repair it will be done for them.

  • I have an iPhone 4S on which I bought the Apple Care policy. The phone was broken and I was told that Apple would do nothing as it was "beyond economical repair".  Does anybody know where in the Apple Care agreement the topic of beyond economical repair?

I recently brought in a broken iPhone 4S and was told the damage was too great and therefore that is was BER and Apple would not cover the phone.  I have never dealt with this issue before and was curious as to where in the terms and conditons Apple reserves the right to not cover if the think that the phone is beyond economical repair.  When I asked clerk I was told that everybody knew that BER applied and "you would not expect an insurance cover to pay for a car if it was totalled."  I told the gentleman in that case the BER only applies as to whether I received money for car or insurance company repaired the vehicle. When I asked to see the terms that set this out nobody in the store (or the chat support agent later).  Does anybody know where this term or terms is set forth.  Also, has nobody ever questioned if it is fair to sell consumers coverage for accidental damage and not tell them that only small damage is covered and not major damage?  I am a little suprised unless I am missing something really obvious.  I have never had this issue with Asurion or with Best Buy coverage.  Thanks

You mention Apple Care, not Apple Care + which are two completely different things. Apple Care is nothing more than an additional year of standard warranty coverage. Apple Care + is what addressed accidental damage. Warranty has never covered accidental damage. What kind of damage did you do? An out of warranty replacement can be done for $199 for the iPhone 4S, and that just means you brought the phone in at least somewhat intact.
Never heard the term, but what I wrote above is what warranty is.

How Can I register my AppleCare Protection Plan?
By the purchase I didn't have to fill out any form. I live outside of the USA, in Hungary.
Please anyone who know what to do contact me!

Before worrying about contacting Apple, try going to
    http://www.apple.com/support/
In the lower right area of the page, under the heading About Your Support Coverage, you can type in your serial number and it will tell you how many days of warranty coverage you have.
Depending on where you bought the computer, you may not need to do anything else.

  • Activating my macbook pro 13" Apple Care protection plan

I purchased my macbook pro 13" in February 2011 from JBHIFI. I have not been using my laptop much and only recently opened up the original box for the laptop and found the apple care protection plan I had purchased with it, however not activated.
    And so, I've tried activating it online providing registration & serial numbers, however it says the following when I try and activate it;
"We apologize for any inconvenience, but registration for this product requires additional documentation. Please submit your proof of purchasefor review by Apple. If your registration is accepted, your product will be covered."
    - I click submit your proof of purchase
    - which then asks me "Please provide your mailing address and describe the reason for your submission."
After that it then asks me to provide the following information...
Gather your sales receipt (with the receipt number, product description, original date of purchase, and reseller details).
Gather the documentation that includes the agreement number for your AppleCare product, if applicable.
Tell us how you want to send your proof of purchase.
The problem is, i NO longer have the receipt, and so can not pass this stage. Why is the registration process being difficult for me?
If it helps, I tried registering over and over, not realising I had been pressing 1 key wrong (about 4 times).
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

ah... I'll have to wait till tomorrow... they are closed today.

  • Apple Care *****

I took my 17" Powerbook into the Apple Store locally.
The problem was that my PB wasn't charging when it was connected to the charger unless you held it a certain way. They fixed that by providing me with a new adapter and also replacing my DC board. That portion of the service was great.
However, the other portion of the service bites because the other problem is that my PB won't stay closed - the lid won't stay shut. This may not seem like a big deal but I cannot carry it around in my bag or wherever without turning it off because it drains the battery. They said they were going to fix this.
When I picked it up they said that they didn't fix it because it was my fault according to them - they said it looked like the screen had been misaligned by some sort of jolt to the PB and that was the cause of the problem. He said a "rubber band works great". Otherwise, it would cost me $600 to have them repair it.
First of all, I have never even dropped my PB - it's never suffered any sort of damage yet they do what they ALWAYS do to save money and blamed it on the user. Everytime anything goes wrong and I call customer service all they end up telling me is either A) It's my fault as the user or B) Take it into an Apple Store. They're useless typically.
What is the point of having Apple Care if they can't ever really help you? Yes, if I didn't have it they would have charged me for the DC replacement and I agree that that is good but in the grand scheme of things, if they don't fix the problems you're having and aren't that helpful on the phone I'm not sure if it's worth it...on my NEXT Mac.

I made the experience with (German) Apple Care that the friendliness and quality-of-service varies significantly from employee to employee.
So maybe you try to speak with an other technician and explain that you are not responsible for the damage. Also asking for the department manager helps sometimes
Spoken generally, I find that the extended Apple warranty isn't worth its money. Sure, they repair and replace parts free of charge for a longer time period, but how often may this happen during the extended warranty ?
For me I made the decision that I save this extra expense, because in the many years I worked with mobile computers, not even a single one was in need to get repaired. Maybe I just had luck, maybe I'm exceptionally careful, not sure

  • Apple Care will not return my Hard drive.

I have a Power Book G4 1.67 . The hard drive has failed, it is covered under applecare for another 6 months, I have case number, the person on the phone was very nice, they sent the shipping box.
I think it's more then just the HD, however. The drive was partitioned in 3 sectors. Of course the system sector was the one that failed. I can boot in Target Disk Mode and see the other 2 sectors of the drive. The system sector is the one that is bad, I can't get that info off there. I am sure someone else can who is better qualified can. I really need that info, I can see they system partition in Disk Warrior, but am not a guru in that or the couple of other products I bought to see if I could rescue this info.
I asked AC Rep if I could have the Hard Drive back, they said no, I asked if they would back up the information, they said no, I said I would pay for either back up or pay for the old hard drive myself, (again) they said no.
So now I am stuck, if I replace that HD myself, I may void the warranty, I know it's a customer installable part. I have replaced many over my apple years, upgrading HDs about every 2 years in multiple computers and putting the old ones in external cases. I have also upgraded RAM, airport cards, pram batteries so I am comfortable working the simple upgrades. So I could simply replace that Hard Drive and then send it in, but then they may blame me for the problem.
There also smaller problems, screen latch won't stay closed, superdrive will not eject correctly, screen has some lines in it occasionally. It's not a road warrior, but I use it a lot and always treat these well. The drive was making no noise at all and no indication of a impeding failure. I treat my machines very carefully, I still have a Pismo that is gasping it's last breath.
This HD has all my important passwords and other personal info, I was in the middle of backing it up when thing went blitz. I saved the data from the other 2 partitions but I need that HD. Why will they not return my old part ? Or even back it up for a fee. I am afraid to replace the HD with a new one, and then send it off, or even try to reboot it from a new one as I maybe be stuck with it and they say well I did the damage.
Yes I know multiple back ups, but this is the first HD failure in 20 years and I should have had 2 HDs for back ups instead of one. Any other part I could see their point, but that HD has information I need and I don't want someone having it either. Is there a fair solution here.
This thing has been down a week, I just got the box and I need to do something. There is no Apple store up here and the company that can do the repairs, messed up a iBook G4, so the only option is sending it out to apple care.
    Ideas and Suggestions?
    Geoff

Well Holy Smoke !! Apple has agreed to let me get my data back a bit of a round about way but we will see.
I am going to use a hard drive recovery service so it will go like this.
A" local service provider," whom did not do anything at all to fix an iBook I gave them, under Apple Care to repair, but keep it 3 weeks and then said, I could not find anything by Goggling the problem...I see the problem that cursor is all over the place and jumps anywhere it wants., a problem came up and by the time we got back the iBook was out of warranty . Sometimes the local help is tough, but I try to support them.
I think, with me standing there, they can remove the hard drive from my powerbook, it's pretty easy..
Then, with Apple Care's blessing, I can send the drive into a recovery company, yes expensive, then return the drive in parts if that is the way it comes back, with my powerbook, ship it and AppleCare will fix it the PowerBook.
That is really good, and if all goes well, I will be very impressed and not hesitate to get that new
MBP. They even offered to let me take out the drive, but I thought, better to keep it in the "Apple Family."
Now they did not send a letter or email to this effect, that would have made me feel better, but the attitude at Apple, has really changed, these people went multiple times to supervisors to get this answer and solution. Not the quickest way to get it fixed, but
I am willing to bend, if they are willing to alter what is a well oiled line and will create a bump in their flow..
We will see, I told them they just might get a bag of parts and I will not reinstall the bad drive, as it is most definitely shot. No problem, it's all in the notes the CSR said.
We will see, but for today, this is sure a different attitude then the last go around, a few years ago. The CSR people are nice, understand English, as they seem to be based in Canada, which is a whole lot better then anywhere else I would want to talk too, or have talked to. They can understand abstract ideas, unlike those who just read from a card and stick to what the card says.
I am holding my breath, but I hope to report that this all goes smooth. I liked it when Apple was a good company. People went out of their way to help you no matter it took to get it fixed or working. I think a company can be good, profitable, plus have a excellent CSR and repair program.
For today at least, here is to Apple, way to go.

  • Macbook bought in Asia, can i buy apple care on Amazon?

    hello mac lovers!
i just got my new macbook. love it! i want to buy apple care and have found it online (amazon) for about 30% less the MRP. is its safe to do this and will it work? my computer is registered to me at my local address in thailand. i will get it shipped to my stateside address so the shipping is not an issue. Any thoughts please? thanks in advance. h20gurl

Hi h20gurl and welcome to Apple Discussions!
An AppleCare agreement purchased from Amazon (or any reliable reseller) should be valid in Thailand, since the agreement is international for portables such as your MacBook. It would also, of course, be valid in the USA. There is no need to have it shipped stateside if you don't want to.
Once you get the AppleCare plan box, you will want to register it to your MacBook. You can do this by going to https://selfsolve.apple.com/Agreements.do and entering the required information. Remember that you must register the agreement with Apple before the MacBook is a year old.
    Best of luck.

  • ISight, Apple Care, and the future...

Hi there. I have a few questions I am looking for answers for...
First off I am definately going to buy a MacBook Pro. I need it for the end of September but am not sure when the best time to buy is. I heard that Apple were introducing a new chip type in September but I'm not too keen using publicly untested products (think the first week of the Pro being released). Can anyone confirm this is true? Also are Apple releasing/upgrading anything in the next few months?
Secondly, can you use the in-built camera with MSN Messenger?
And lastly what are the benefits to Apple Care? It's a lot of money. Is it worth it?
    Thanks to all in advance

This first question is something no one here can answer, since only Apple employees under a nondisclosure agreement would know the answer. Also, speculation about future products is something Apple doesn't allow on their forums. But there are a lot of other forums where you can discuss this.
Secondly, can you use the in-built camera with MSN Messenger?
At least when this post was answered, it looks like the answer was no. But that could have changed since then, possibly, and there were also some suggestions in that topic for alternate MSN Messenger clients. Check for a new version of MSN messenger or any information about future plans for updates, maybe?
And lastly what are the benefits to Apple Care? It's a lot of money. Is it worth it?
That's for you to decide, but in my opinion it's worth it. It extends the hardware warranty to a total of three years, and since it's an actual Apple warranty, not a third-party warranty extension, it's very easy to get service under the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP). I find it valuable for notebook computers, which tend to have more odd issues over time due to more moving parts, etc. And it seems especially likely that one might need an extended warranty for a computer with as new technology and design as the MacBook Pro. For some details about how an APP works, see Is phone support and warranty service free?
It does not cover accidental damage. For that kind of coverage you need to look to homeowner's insurance or a computer insurance policy.
Keep in mind that while the list price of an APP for a MacBook Pro is $350, you can buy it from any Apple authorized retailer and pay significantly less, sometimes as low as $270, easily for $300.

  • Apple Care Transfer

    Good Evening,
I currently own an iPhone 3GS in which I will be selling it tomorrow and I'm including the Apple Care I bought with it. I read online that to do a transfer, I'd need to fax in a few things to the US Apple office, such as proof of purchase of plan, the serial #, the contact info of the new owner, etc.
Is there any other method such as emailing or calling them up on the phone and doing this? Or do I need to fax it? How long does this process take, as I don't want it to take long after I sell my iPhone 3GS.
    Thanks

  • Stolen iPhone, Apple care on the new one?

    Hello.
I'm sure it's not posted in the good community, but I have no idea where else to post it.
I recently got my iPhone stolen with an Apple Care warranty. I know my phone is lost into the woods, but now, I just want to know if there's a possibility of me getting the Apple Care warranty of my old phone, on my new iPhone. Because I don't feel like paying 100$ for it one more time..
    Thanks.

you want to transfer your applecare agreement to another phone, correct?
You should contact AppleCare technical for that one, they might be able to transfer it, depending on exact conditions, like the purchase date of the old phone. No garantuees, though.
    Good luck
