Apple Display Advice

Can anyone help me chose between the following three displays?  I am an architecture student who will be using 3D modeling software as well as the full Adobe Suite.  The display would be connected to a mid-2012 MBP (non-retina).
Apple Cinema 20-inch Flat-Panel Display
Apple LED Cinema Display 24-Inch MB382LL/A
Apple Cinema 23-inch HD Flat-Panel Display
Thanks.

If you are not already considering either the 27" LED or the 27" Thunderbolt Display, and only the options you mention, then (personally) I would choose the 24" Cinema Display 24-inch MB382LL/A since it is the largest display with the best overall resolution.
Otherwise, I would opt for the 27" LED or 27" Thunderbolt. They are currently Apple's best displays.

  • Using an external non-Apple display on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion

On Friday I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and now I am not able to use my 23" Samsung monitor exclusively as my display. I can mirror the MacBook Pro's display, but then my HD monitor's resolution is downgraded.
I used to start-up my MacBook Pro pushing the "On" button and then quickly closing the notebook. When it has started and the display was shown on my Samsung monitor, I opened the MacBook and all would be well. I had the benefit of the full HD resolution of my Samsung monitor, with all the menus and the MacBook's screen would be blank. If I follow the same steps now, the moment I open my MacBook, everything shifts back to the MacBook and the external screen only shows the background picture, with no menus.
I am a photographer and use the large HD-quality screen to see fine detail when I am doing editing. I do not like to work on two screens at the same time, and would prefer it to just keep on working in the same way as previuosly.
Can someone please give me advice on my problem?

This may help but then it may not. I tested it with my iMac and non-Apple second display so results may vary.
With both the MacBook and the second display powered on go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement
Drag the Menu Bar to the second display and then drag the display itself to the other side of the second display. This should allow acces to the dock and Menubar on the non-Apple display and achive your desired results.
Note: If I sleep my iMac the second display stops so you may need to keep your MacBook open to use these settings
    Hope that helps

  • 30" Apple Display - consistent color problems- 1/2 and 1/2

I'm a professional photographer that must provide technically precise and color-correct images to my clients. My old 23" Apple Display was awesome. This new 30" is good looking, but I've noticed that the left side of the screen is slightly warm and the right side is slightly cool. I'm still using the Color Eyes calibration software, which makes my screen look better overall, but it's still clearly different tones left to right.
Is there a fix for this?
For now I'm calibrating one side and only using that half for my color-correcting needs. Seems like a lot of money to pay for a bad monitor. Thanks in advance for any advice.

So, I took my faulty 30" back to my local Apple store, and because of a glitch in their repair scheduling software, they were forced to give me a brand new 30". NOW I have these little green flashing pixels that appear around edges of boxes. All over the screen, depending on where an edge is. ***?
I'll take this thing back on Monday, but I'm hoping someone will have an easy fix for me.
It can't be my computer since my original 30" display worked just fine an hour before hooking this new one up, right?
Also, worth noting: I attempted to perform the "advanced Apple calibration" in display preferences (but it wouldn't save it for some reason.) I've seen the green pixels ever since. It doesn't seem to matter which preset profile I choose- I still see these green pixels.

  • Mac Pro + 22" Apple Display

Apologies for this as I'm sure it's answered somewhere but I can't find it! I have purchased Mac Pro 8 Core 2.93 and simply wish to know if my existing Apple 22" (old style, horizontal lined casing)flat screen display needs any additional connections to link up with the Mac Pro out of the box. The new mac is standard specification, no additions. Thank you in advance for any advice.

If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will need a DVI to ADC adapter.

  • USB-C to mini display port and thunderbolt apple displays

I currently have a 24 in late 2008 Apple Cinema Display connected to a 2008 MacBook.  This particular display has a three pronged connector (MagSafe, mini DisplayPort, conventional USB).  I am thinking of upgrading to the new MacBook but am concerned about the compatibility with my display.  Will there be an adapter or solution to connect the USB-C port to the three pronged connector of the apple Cinema Display?  I see that USB-C port has support for hdmi, VGA, and standard display port but I see nothing about Mini DisplayPort or MagSafe.  There is also no mention of thunderbolt dislay connectivity (for newer adopters of Apple displays).  I understand innovation often comes at a price but it seems like a fairly large oversight to potentially obsolete fairly expensive larger apple Mini DisplayPort and thunderbolt devices for people who are looking to upgrade.  This will certainly factor into my decision in purchasing new apple laptops in the future, especially if the standard inevitably moves toward USB-C on all devices.  Thanks for any help!

You can connect your 24" display with the Apple HDMI adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter>
followed by a HDMI to Mini DisplayPort converter
    <http://www.kanex.com/xd>
The MacBook USB-C connector does support DisplayPort, so there may be a future adapter that would avoid the HDMI conversion.
You won't be able to use the MagSafe cable.

  • Apple display connector to vga adaptor

I am looking for an adaptor (to VGA or DVI-D)for a 2004 vintage Apple Cinema Display.   The ADC is rounded sides per photo below.   I want to use this monitor with a desktop PC but am unable to locate an adaptor.   Any suggestions ?
PS - virtually all searches produce newer style adaptors but not one which will work with this setup.
    Suggestions appreciated.

  • I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)

"I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)"
That was all I could put in the initial "box."  Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.
    Proceeding ...
After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.
    Help ...
    Running 8.0 on 5S
    Thanks!

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I have formatted my iPhone at least a dozen times, Apple and an Apple retailer have formatted my hard drive not to mention the numerous times I have formatted it but the hackers keep getting on my devices. Im formatting my lap top at this very second because during the course of the night I left the ethernet cable plugged into it and they locked me out of my c: drive, and configured the system so I can't download any updates from Microsoft, overtime I type in www.microsoft.com it changes to ww38.microsoft.com which takes me to a blank page. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

    MBP,
    1. No one has any experience with this seller. "purpleyoga1124 ( 0 )". Note the big ZERO after the seller's ID. Zero means no feedback.
    2. The manufacturing cost of a 30-inch display is over $1500. You made read http://www.digitimes.com/ daily to get a feel for actual mfg costs.

  • Using 30" Apple Display  as a TV monitor

    Hi,
I want to know if I can repalce my old TV for a 30" Apple display, so that I can use it both as a computer monitor and as a TV monitor. Specifically can I connect it to a digital cable service. Will I be able to see HDTV ? If this is possible, how do I do it?

Basically by connecting it to a mac of some description you would be able to use it as a computer monitor, have something fairly similar to tv in front row and with the aid of an eye tv receiver or similar you could watch and record various anologue and digital tv stations.
The problems you are up against is that the 30" display requires a dual DVI output (that's dual in one connecter not two single DVI outputs) I don't think the mac mini is up to it and as far as I know desktops don't do front row, which leaves you with top end laptops.
If you don't already have a computer for the job, it would be far cheaper to go for a new HD TV and tv than a computer just so you can utilise your monitor.

  • Using a non Apple Display with the Mini

I am considering purchasing a Mac Mini.
It will be installed in my living room and connected to my stereo to play music from iTunes.
In this area I only have about 19 inches of width. So I'm looking at purchasing a non Apple display that will fit in this width.
What requirements should I look for in a display (hopefully to avoid adapters)?

Recommend you buy from someplace that has a good exchange/return policy.
Thanks, I always do, especially with a display.
Some places have a policy that requires a certain number of dead pixels before they will accept a return.
I ALWAYS test a display with 'Pixel Tester' immediately. If I find ANY defective pixels I return the display, and I never say the word "pixel" to them.
having one dead pixel that is white, for example, while all others show color, can be annoying.
And hard to re-sell later. Look on ebay, you will find many ads for used computers and displays that say "No Dead Pixels".

  • Can I use two  non-apple displays on my G5? Is there an adaptor for this?

I found a great deal on two non-Apple wide screen displays. I can hook up one to my G5 via the DVI port but can't use the second port--typically used by an Apple Display. Is there an adaptor that I can use so that I can use my second non-apple display?

  • Which imacs and apple displays connect to late 2008 aluminum macbook 13 inch for use as external display?

I have a late 2008 13 inch aluminum macbook and want to purchase an iMac computer or apple display to use as an external display for it while I'm at my desk.
I can afford up to $700 for sure, maybe up to $1000 and would like one that has built in camera and audio if possible.
I'd like to know what my options are as it seems not all are compatible.
I'll mostly be doing web browsing and photo editing in Aperture.
Also wondering if it's possible to sync 2 computers so that when you make changes on one it reflects the changes in the other. Like you can with certain apps like Evernote.
    Thank you for your help!

Yes he is right, Snow Leopard is your first step.  Once you have that you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion if memory serves me correct.  Some people were saying that Lion was a little sluggish with the aluminum MacBook but that Mountain Lion was great.  Personally I had Lion on it also and didn't think it ran badly.  10.6 was still with Rosetta (the program that ran power pc apps) but this is dropped on 10.7 and up.  Up until just the other day I still had the stock 2 gb of ram.  The firmware update happens with Snow Leopard and up so it should come up as a software update.  If not, it can be done manually as well.  The ram I purchased was 60 bucks for the 8 gb.  For Lion and Mountain Lion I have to agree with the above reply, that it would run alot better with at least 4 gb.  If you run that many apps at once then you are going to want as much ram as you can get.  If you add a solid state drive you will be amazed at the difference it will make too.

  • Running two Apple displays from one Macbook Pro?

I have two Apple displays with mini-display ports.  I have ONE Macbook Pro with ONE mini-display port.  Problem.
I purchased this USB 2.0 to DVI Display Adapter from Monoprice but still can't figure out how to get my mini-display ports to work with this.
Is this even the right product?

You can use another DVI, VGA, or even HDMI display for far cheaper with this adapter, US$60 plus shipping:

Warning: Results may be unacceptably laggy.
But a converter to Mini DisplayPort is quite expensive, US$150 plus shipping:

First format the drive to OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored:
Next drag your iPhoto library from your Pictures folder to the EHD.  When the copying is complete launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and in the window that comes up select the library on the EHD:
Check the file path under the window to make sure the correct library has been selected.
Once you've confirmed that the EHD library is working properly and has all of your photos you can delete the library in your Pictures folder.
