Apple mail not working since Yosemite installed

I have had not new mail on my MacBook Pro laptop for several days.  I do receive mail on my iPod Touch.  The popup message on the MacBook mail states:   "Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk. " Please advise what to do - I am reluctant to allow insecure authentication.
Sharon

I am reluctant to allow insecure authentication.
You should be, but if that's what your mail server requires, you'll have to do it anyway, or else switch mail providers (recommended.)

  • Mail thread in Apple mail not working after updating to Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite a couple of days ago and I noticed that my mail threads are not working properly. Instead of having threads categorized by the subject line, I have thousands of emails in just ONE thread that are completely irrelevant to each other. I have deleted my email accounts completely and reinstalled them from scratch and they still have the same problem after my emails are dowloaded from my IMAP server. I have also tried to rebuild the email account and the same problem happens. I get around 700 - 800 emails a day so the thread function is extremely crucial for me to be able to track all of my emails, but there is no way to do it now when everything is bunched together.
Anyone else running into the same issue? I am using a third party host (Bluehost) as my hosting service, but this problem never came up on the previous operating systems or my IPHONE. Those still work just fine.
    Thanks

The longest thread about this seems to be this one: LINK
Best course of action now is to describe the problem to apple in the feedback form: LINK

  • Mail not working since installing 10.7.3 Supplementary Update

My mom installed the updates that came through yesterday (3/8/12), and ever since they completed she's had issues where the refresh indicator by the inbox won't stop spinning, and anything she deletes or sorts is automatically restored to its original location.  Looking through the software update log, it appears that the 10.7.3 Supplementary Update is the most likely candidate for what's causing the issue.
Has anyone else had this issue?  If so, what can be done to fix it?

Thanks for bumping this, I forgot to update it after calling Apple for support on the issue.
Short of it is that it was a corrupted mailbox cache at fault.  I don't remember the location offhand precisely, but something to the effect of this should do the trick: http://thenitai.com/2009/02/22/apple-mail-problems-and-how-to-fix-it/

  • Hotmail in Safari not working since Yosemite was downloaded

    Good morning.
I installed Yosemite (version 10.10.2) yesterday on my imac and since then cannot open Hotmail in Safari (everything freezes or once I got the message 'Safari can't find server').
I was normally login in to hotmail using dub125.mail.live.com
I have already cleared my search history. And one of the Apple chat help persons told me to do a safe reboot, which did not change anything.
Any idea what I should do?
    Many thanks!

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • Apple mail not working after upgrading to maverics

I installed maverics on my mac a couple months ago. I noticed that all of my accounts in apple mail  have not worked properly since. first of all, i cant tell if mail is retrieving my email anymore. there used to be a spiral next to the account letting me know that it was checking and now there is no indicator that it is working or not. many times my mail is delayed hours as I can see from the time that mail gets my email vs when my gmail or other account actually gets it.
sometimes apple mail says that the accounts are not connected to the internet but my wifi is fine. after trouble shooting the network settings i can get it to work but what a pain. Is there a way to reset my apple mail settings or my network settings to make apple mail work like it did before maverics? Please help. My mac info is below:
    osx 10.9.1
    processor: 2.5 ghz core i5

  • Share via Mail not working after Yosemite upgrade

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded from Lion to Yosemite and now I cannot use the Send via Mail option in Pages (or Numbers for that matter).
I searched for this already in another tread but the answer (permission repair) did not work. The Exporting option still works, although it wants to save the file in a strange location, namely LIBRARY - CACHES - CLEANUP AT STARTUP - COM.APPLE.IWORK.PAGES.8572.TEMP.XXXXXXX    instead in DOCUMENTS or DESKTOP.
Any and all advice on this small but annoying inconvenience is welcome :-)
    Thanks
    Ray

Pages '09 v4.3 has lost this capability on Yosemite. Export to desired document format, and then drag/drop into Mail body.

  • Apple Mail not working with Gmail IMAP

This is a slight re-working of a post of 27 March as I am being driven nuts having to use web mail.
I have used Mail with gMail for years. Last week I was abroad and I could only use the web interface as when I logged in from my MacBook via Mail the message pane was fine (and up to date though it did not open by default as usual) but if I opened any message all I got was 'Loading' followed by the spinning beach ball. I tried this for several days and always got the same result and assumed it was an (atypical) result of being abroad.
When I got home I found I had exactly the same problem on my iMac which was fine before I left home and as with my MB I have to force quit to get out of Mail.
I then when out and after a restart (not the first since the problem) that my MB was OK - but only briefly. My iMac is still stuffed as far as Mail is concerned.
Mail itself does not seem completely broken, for instance I can look at Previous recipients, I can send from Mail and it arrives back (but then I can’t open it). I can drag messages to the Bin, but they don’t seem to stay there. Oddly I have sent a lot of mail from the gMail interface today, but none of them show up in Apple Mail, tho earlier days do.
I do have a lot of messages in sent mail, nearly 6,000, and while I can understand it progressively slowing things down I don’t see that it would cause both machines to fail simultaneously and anyway I don’t want to delete them.
Any ideas? There are no error messages, Connection Doctor shows me as logged in, and I have not found anything via a Google search or in their discussions.
    Cheers, Colin

Opps, the * was an OCR error from the screen dump I did not notice.
plus.net is my ISP, but I don't use them for mail normally but I suspect once-upon-a-time I may have had a problem connecting with gMail's SMTP server, so set that up.
I'm actually running Mail 3 (I think the latest version for Leopard, incidentally gmail help is only up to v 2).
Rather than delete the other servers I have set it to only use smtp.gmail, but it still hangs on opening a message pane. Oddly even tho I get the beech ball I can still open prefs.
I can't help feeling the problem is with Mail itself (tho why on two machines at once is beyond me) as the normal behaviour is always to open with the Message pane, but it opens without a window; almost as soon as I open the Message pane it updates with gmail and deletes any message I have moved on the web side. So, only partly broken, but broken enough to be useless!
    Cheers, Colin

  • Apple Mail keeps crashing since Mavericks install

Can someone please advise - ever since I upgraded to Mavericks mail crashes. I open Mail (I have 2 apple mail accounts) and it loads my messages. As soon as I click on a message the app crashes. I've sent numerous reports and have to log in through Chrome or Safari which is really really annoying. Please help!!!

    Hi!
I fixed my mail app crash issue as below
    1) Go to ~/Library/Mail/ (By right click at finder and choose "Go to Folder..." then type "~/Library/Mail/"
    2) Back up ~/Library/Mail/V2 folder for your mailboxes.
    3) Relaunch Mail
    4) Sync all your e-mails again
    5) If your old mail (only in local) is needed, import your back up mailbox. (Mail->File->Import Mailboxes)
By the way, "defaults delete com.apple.mail ColorQuoterColorList" didn't work out for me.
    Have a nice day!!

  • Apple Mail not working with IMAP account

I have been using Entourage for my email with several IMAP email accounts. SOme of the accounts I was getting occasional errors so I thought I would try Apple Mail.
I am able to successfully set up the accounts in Mail (i.e. it successfully logs into server) however it does not get any of the mail nor does it get any of the mail folders that are on the IMAP server (viewing email using Web Mail or even going back to Entourage shows the emails on the account). Are there any special (hidden) tricks that I need to do to get Mail to work with a standard IMAP mail server?

I have a very similar problem. Apparently IMAP access is better than POP3. Well IMAP slows my Mac to a complete stop whereas POP3 is seamless. I deleted my POP3 mailboxes after successfully accessing my GMail accounts via IMAP, then it slowed down.
I've deleted the IMAP accounts a few times, but each time a new account is created it forces me to accept IMAP with no option for POP3. The help file also contains no information on POP3.
I get about 50 emails everyday and my usual point of email access has just become redundant, I must now rely on email via my browser and .
I made this change because the iPhone does not sync downloaded emails with Apple Mail. In Mail on my Mac, the one GMail inbox I have setup says there are 11 unread which it eventually shows yet none appear unread. I'll have to rely on web-based email until this is resolved.
Can anyone help with these IMAP access problems?
