Apple Repair Depot forgot a few things (update?)

I just left my macbook pro at the apple store to be repaired at Apple Depot. I forgot to mention that
my headphone jack needed to be replaced (worn out so all headphones end up slipping out), it's
very annoying to watch a movie and not make any movement so the headphone wire doesn't slip
out.
I was told everything they find will be replaced for a flat rate but my original problem is completely unrelated
to the headphone jack and isn't even listed on the paper they gave back. My question being is should I leave it
alone and they'll most likely check for it or should I get a hold of someone to update it on the problems list?
My computer hasn't been shipped out yet so I'm not sure if I should wait till it gets to the depot or before?
Thanks to all that answer!
Note: I had a power/logic board/video problem which I was told would be replaced + anything else they find.
I know that my system was a bit sluggish as also mention on my summary. But my question is will they wipe my
HDD and reinstall lion for me (use time machine to back everything up too)? I ask since this is primarily a hardware issue.
Both the acccounts I have are password protected nor do I like the thought of repair technicians going through all my
files.haha. Also already mentioned (to the rep) that I have backed up my system as well just in case.
Past experience are greatly welcome and again thanks to all that answer!

Hi - my IT department directed me to this page as we have been experiencing a few sync issues etc. So I downloaded the patch - my email account will not sync properly now. Is there any way I can uninstall this patch?
iOS 4: Exchange Mail, Contacts, or Calendars may not sync after update
Last Modified: 28 June, 2010
Article: TS3398
Symptoms
Immediately after updating to iOS 4, some users may notice that Exchange ActiveSync Mail, Contacts, or Calendars do not sync, or sync very slowly. In addition, some Exchange Server administrators may notice their servers running slowly.
Products Affected
iPod touch, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS
Resolution
To work around this issue, users should install a configuration profile from Apple that increases the amount of time the iOS 4 device will wait for the Exchange Server to respond to its sync requests. For best results, the profile should be installed on as many iOS 4 devices at your company as possible.
To install the profile:
Use Safari on your iOS 4 device to download the configuration profile. It may be easiest to read this article with your iPhone or iPod touch and tap the download link there, but you may also email the attachment to another email account on your iOS 4 device, and tap the attachment to open it.
Tap Install to install the profile, and enter your passcode if prompted.
A warning message will appear because the profile is not signed. Tap Install Now.
Tap Done to complete the installation, then power off your device and power it back on.
Wait for your Exchange data to finish syncing.
After installation, the profile will be listed under Settings > General > Profile.

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

  • New PB already at Apple Repair Depot

Got my great new 17in. PB and had to take it in to an Apple store straight away... The right rear fan was always running, right from start up, with practically no CPU usage, no strange apps, nothing - right out of the box this approx. $3k machine was not right.
It's been at the depot for nearly a week now and the latest 'update' is 'hold-engineering'... been like that for days. When I finally got someone at Applecare to contact the depot for a REAL update, they said they were awaiting testing software. The main repair depot of Apple didn't have the necessary equipment to test my PB? This is crazy. So here I am, typing away on my 2001 TiBook wondering if I've purchased a lemon - but more importantly wondering why the company I love was not properly set up to repair and fix their newest products. When something like this comes up, it should be standard to replace the machine and deal with the troubled unit/poor preparation, internally.
Just my two cents from a true Mac fan who's just slightly disappointed.

I agree 100%. I ordered a 17" several minutes after the new ones were released on Oct 19th. I received it exactly one week later. Upon booting it up, there was a dead pixel near the center of the screen. I tried to live it but couldn't. Then I noticed something else. The lid was not aligned properly with the base of the PB. I called Apple on Oct 22nd and spoke with a rep. I explained my problems and he asked me to take it to the Apple Store to have a genius look at it. I took it there and explained my problems. The genius checked it out and for the most part agreed with me. He typed up a case and gave me the case number. I called Apple the next day and gave them the case number. The rep pulled it up and asked, "Ok, where would you like me to send the box?" I asked, "What box?" He explained he was going to send a box to have me put my PB in and send back to the repair depot for repairs. I disagreed and said I want a new one. After an hour on the phone arguing with 4 different reps that this PB was obviously defective, they decided to replace it. They made sure to let me know that normally, there would be a restocking fee because it was a BTO with the 7200rpm drive but they were willing to make an exception under this circumstance. Whatever, just give me what I paid for. The rep created a work order and gave me the information to track the status of my new PB. On Oct. 24th, my new PB was shipped out and I received Oct. 28th. Pretty quick! The only thing that bites was I had to pay for the shipping to send the previous PB back. But that's ok. I got another brand new PB and this one is excellent! No dead pixels and a perfectly aligned lid. =)
Call Apple and complain. Be polite yet firm. It will get you a long way. Express the fact that you are not happy and would like some satisfaction. It works great.

  • HT1296 i have a load of stuff on my ipad but I can't get it onto my conputer, pressing sync comes up with a message saying it will all be deleted. I've transferred all purchases but this only does the few things I've got from apple (apps and a few itunes)

I own an ipad2 and have loads of music and vids/photos etc on it from an old pc.
I just bought a new pc and wanted to transfer everything to the new pc
I've transferred purchases but this only transfers things bought in the itunes store like apps and a few songs
The rest of the content is still on my ipad.
When I press sync, it warns that it will delete all the content on my ipad and replace with the few things I've managed to import.
How do I transfer all the content to the new pc?

    Similar issues here.
I purchased five movies for download and having nothing but problems getting them downloaded. I keep receiving error messages and the download stops and I have to restart it, just to get another minute worth of download with each restart. Now Apple has my money and I have nothing.

  • Tablet sent to repair depot?

I just sent my excite 10 in to the repair depot, because after only a few months of light use, its creaking all over, one of the buttons is extremely loose, and the light bleed has just bugged me to death. My question is, do you think these will actually be repaired, or will I just get it sent back because they coudnt find anything wrong with it? I feel like they will think they're minor problems.  I've heard bad things about the repair depot too. I hope it doesnt take forever

I have and I was extremely frustrated in the end. Shipping my tablet was fine but trying to find out the status and WHAT EXACTLY WAS DONE during the repair...NOT SO MUCH! When I finally recevied my tablet back, there was no paperwork, no description of what was discovered or what they actually did to find the problem nor was there any follow-up details. I received an email stating that my tablet had been repaired and that a "detailed summary" or the repairs would be included but NOTHING came in the package except my tablet. I called customer care thinking they would be able to give me more information but they simply said check the depot website for the status update (NO HELP...only a pictogram of receiving/being fixed/shipped back to customer). I then called and asked if they could email me a copy of what exactly was done to MY tablet and they said they were not allowed to email or hard-copy mail me any details pertaining to the fixing of the tablet or what exactly was done. All they would say is that there was some sort of motherboard problem and that was it. Nothing else...NOTHING. I was so frustrated I sent a warning to consumers on ConsumerReports.com about it. I feel that I purchased the product; I paid for the addiitonal warranty; I filled out and sent ALL PAPERWORK they required me to send with my tablet; the least they could have done is send me details about what they found and what they fixed on MY product. Ok, that was a rant but you get my drift. I am now here again, a month later, with another problem though so we will see how this goes. Thanks and sorry so long! Sorry...forgot to mention...turnaround was about a week and a half or so.

  • Do i have to log in to my apple id in order to use "auto updates for apps" in ios 7

do i have to log in to my apple id in order to use "auto updates for apps" in ios 7

This same exact thing started happening to me a few days ago.
Every time I open the iPod app - I'm prompted for User/Password.  I even changed my password, thinking I forgot it, and still - insists that I enter this information.  If i hit OK or Cancel it just keeps asking like a never ending loop.
Eventually, when I do fill out the info, it will go away until I re-open the iPod app.  This is more of an annoyance than a real issue - but if it's a bug, I hope it gets resolved.
Any support in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Repair Depot won't finish and return my computer- can someone tell me how to get response?

Repair depot received my G560 laptop on 12/2 after I talked to tech support who assured me it was a 7 day turn around in the repair depot.  So, I figured with shipping both ways, I should not be without it for more than 11 days.
On 12/5 they posted an update that they were waiting for parts.  That is the last update online.  I called 12/7 and was told the motherboard was replaced and they were testing the system.  I called 12/9 and told the same thing.  I asked how long they will be testing the system since it took 5 months for it to happen to me.  I just got the canned apologies and assurances.  But, this guy said maybe 3-5 more business days.
I called 12/14 (yesterday) and told the exact same update.  She assured me she would email the depot and get an update and call me back.  Of course by evening she had not called.  So, I called again.  This guy told me the update put in their system (still nothing changed online) earlier that day was they were waiting for parts.  So, on 12/5 it was repaired and on 12/14 they are waiting for parts.  CRAZY!!  I explained to him I was going out of town next week and needed it back before then.  He assured me I would have it back before I leave.  How can can make that assurance is beyond me since they are waiting for parts (that they should keep a large supply of since this seems to be a common problem) and he has no idea when the parts will be in.  I told him it was going to be a big problem having it sit in the snow for 2 weeks and he again assured me it will be in my hands before I leave.  Of course, he never asked what day that would be.
So, tomorrow will be 14 days since they received it and I was told by tech support it was a 7 day turn around.
Has anyone found a phone number of someone with Lenovo who actually can help me rather than the regular "I'm sorry, ma'am, that you are having this problem"  and  "I assure you ..." employees?  In all my years of laptop use, this is the first time I have had problems with one prior to 3 years of use and even then, it's minor.  Funny how I was told Lenovo was a good brand, but the cheap plastic they are made of should have clued me in.
Please share any successful tips you may have.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

The problem is before the repair they gave me the free version of lion osx server. because i bought a server version mac mine. but now after repair i only get a version of lion osx without the server software. and i do not have any ideay how to contact them about it tru mail. because calling them is at this moment no option for me.

I had this problem as well. I was under the gun on time and just purchased it anyway. After installation I contacted support and they refunded me the amount.
You should have a backup of your servers regardless of circumstances. You would then be able to restore the server software.
When Apple repair machines they will often just swap it or swap the hard disk and will not make any effort to transfer your files. They assume you are doing a backup. Anybody running servers absolutely has a responsibility to ensure they have aduequate backups even more than 'normal' users. While Time Machine may not be wholely suitable for backing up servers Time Machine is so simple even normal users can use it and therefore no longer have any excuse for not doing backups.

  • My refurbished rMBP 15" has a stuck (white) pixel and is still under the 1 year limited warranty, can/will Apple repair it if I go to an Apple Store?

Hi, my refurbished rMBP 15" has a stuck (white) pixel and is still under the 1 year limited warranty, can/will Apple repair it if I go to an Apple Store?
I just discovered today that my MacBook has a "stuck" pixel. I read that the display has to have at least 5 dead/stuck pixels else Apple is not going to repair it, is it true? My warranty expires in 1 month so I can't really wait for 4 more pixels to die or get stuck.
    Temporary fix:
I know that this is something I can't really repair myself, but I tried some things such as changing the display resolution to it's "Full" 2880x1800 resolution and It actually reduced the size of the stuck pixel.
    Thank You,

    Hello etienne255,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with questions concerning pixel anomalies:
About LCD display pixel anomalies for Apple products released before 2010 - Apple Support
If you suspect your display contains a high number of pixel anomalies, take your Apple product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for closer examination.

  • After upgraded to version 5 few things missing..

    Hi,
I am using blackberry curve 8520.. I have been using this for almost a year already. I noticed, there are few things missing and some problems occurred when I upgraded to version 5. Eg. Memopad, No column in option for alarm tones, my BB getting slower during browsing, everytime I try to connect to wi-fi, it will be intermittent or not connected.
For unable to connect to wifi, I suspected it is browser issue but then I set to default setting it is still the same.
Can somebody help me to rectify this please?
    Tq.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Memopad: 1. On your homescreen, press the Menu key > SHOW ALL, so that SHOW ALL is checked.
    2. Look in EACH folder on your device... Applications, Instant Messengers, Downloads, etc.
If you still don't see it, look at Options > Advanced > Applications. Do you see it listed there?
If still can't be found, read this link.
    Alarms tones? Can you elaborate?
Slow or lagging device, please see below.
i don't know about your WiFi issue, you would also need to elaborate your problem.
To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.
If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.
To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.
So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

hi i am using mac os x 10.5.8 but this os is not supporting few software updates.so how can i get a better version of os?,,this os not supporting google chrome and i tunes 7..

The next Mac OS version os 10.6.
Below is a link to some details how you can obtain that for your Mac.

After you upgrade to 10.6 and update to 10.6.8 you can buy version 10.8 online at the Mac App Store.
That will provide the basis for any of the latest software you now want.

  • A Successful Apple Repair!

This text was taken from my online blog and I wanted to share it with other fellow PowerBook users/owners.
I own and use an Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium. This computer gets used a lot, more than some desktops get used no doubt. Well one day my fan started to act up and I thought nothing of it really, it must come with an aging computer. My extended warranty runs out in December of this year (2005) and the fan noise wasn't letting up, in fact it was getting much worse. I decided that it would be a good time to contact Apple to get my computer a new fan. Apple decided that the only way for me to do this under the warranty would be to ship my computer off. This made me somewhat uneasy and nervous...sending my beloved PowerBook off to someone seemed a little scary in a sense. Well I was able to bring myself together and send it off. The call was put in on a Friday afternoon, the following Monday a pre-paid DHL box shows up at home and the computer gets carefully sent off. The next day (Tuesday) Apple receives the box and repairs my computer in a matter of hours and tests it to make sure it will work out. I get the computer back the NEXT DAY! (Wednesday). Shocked, surprised, and very relieved that my computer came back in what appeared to be good shape made me very happy. I then proceeded to connect my computer back up to the power supply and other devices, turned the computer on and to my shock I was given a different display which I didn't ask for...WOW! I start to browse the net and check e-mail and wait for the computer temperature to rise enough for the fans to start running. The primary fan kicks on and it runs just like when I got it...quiet! Shortly there after the second fan kicks on and what do you know...it runs just like the primary fan does...quiet!!!
I wanted to share this story with my blog readers because I wanted to make sure you all knew that Apple's repair team is A+. I have nothing but good things to say about how I've been treated by Apple. From dealing with song quality issues on the iTunes Music Store to getting my PowerBook repaired, the service has been great If you ever need repair on your Apple Computer I wouldn't think twice about sending it in and I hope by sharing my success story with you will not hesitate either.

Hello Dan, When the call was made to Apple they told me to bring the computer to a Authorized Apple Repair Center. Well there isn't one of those within several hundred miles of my location so my only logical decision was to send the computer in.
I believe the issue with my fan included dust and age. Several weeks back I purchased a can of CleanSafe dust remover. I lifted the computer keyboard from the computer and shot the nozzle down into the fan (Note the computer was powered off). A lot of dust was blown out of there and I thought I may have solved the problem. However, after turning the computer back on and using it for a short period of time the fan kicked on again and it was still noisy. To me it sounded as if the bearings may have been going out of it. Whatever it was you can tell by my blog entry (posted above) that I am once again happy with my PowerBook.
