I have notice that Apple is selling the iPhone 4 unlock in Canada. Can we buy the iPhone at the Apple Store or just on line Apple Store. Anybody knows.

The fact that Apple now sells unlocked phones independently of AT&T does not change AT&T's 'no unlock' policy.
The phone you bought is locked to AT&T. So far, AT&T have not announced any change to their unlocking policy and Apple cannot unlock an AT&T iPhone without receiving authorization from AT&T.

Yes, the AppleStore does sell unlocked iPhone 5's in some countries (e.g.UK, US, EU), and yes it can be used on any compatible GSM network. Depending on which country you buy the iPhone 5 unlocked from, LTE (4G) may not work in the country you take it to as different countries use different LTE bands.

Apple will announce when they are available. With the 4S, it was about a month after the initial release in the US. Because you can not take a CDMA phone from one carrier to another, and because there is only one supported GSM carrier in the US, purchasers of unlocked phones are an extreme minority in the US. The initial shipments will be allocated to meeting demand for locked phones first.

i searched in the UK store and the Australian store and the option for the unlocked iPhone 6 is available but the devices itself is not yet but the taxes are much higher and the phone is much more expensive from the U.S store

No one knows that at this point. In the recent past, the unlocked iPhones started out as only available in the retail Apple stores and not by on-line order. When they will be available or how has not been announced so far.
Keep in mind that purchasing an iPhone in another country is not a great idea since the warranty is only valid in the country of sale so if anything would go wrong there would be no service or support in another country.

As Phil says the only one that can unlock an iPhone is the carrier holding the lock. Apple is not able to do it for you.

I am not sure but Apple has made the iPhone 5 have a nano sim card so if it does get unlocked, it will still require the nano sim card. So, at the moment you are stuck to a carrier with the 5.

Yes, they are officially unlocked by Apple. Yes they will work on T-Mo but not completely. T-Mobile 3G WILL NOT function on the iPhone 3G due to different frequencies. If you have trouble believing this saying that there isn't one unlocked to test on T-Mo then look at the G1 Android phone from T-Mobile, it WILL NOT work on AT&T 3G, and it can be unlocked.

HELLO, I JUST READ THE BELOW ARTICLE IN ONE OF THE iPhone Magazines, and I understand that Apple is selling Un-Locked iPhones. Therefore, does that mean we can purchase it directly from the online Apple store and/or in the stores that we enjoy visit ting and learn all the great info in their WORKSHOPS and One On One appointments.
I appreciate if anyone reading this, has actually witnessed or actually purchase an Un-locked iPhone online or in the Apple stores. If so, please tell me how and where you accomplished your new purchase.

MacRumors and 9to5 Mac have both confirmed that Apple will start selling unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 starting on Wednesday, June 15th. Although these rumors surfaced over the weekend, most tech blogs were skeptical since Apple has always frowned upon unlocking (AKA "jail-breaking") their devices to be used with any carrier. The unlocked versions only apply to the GSM versions (the ones compatible with AT&T). Verizon versions of the iPhone (CDMA versions) will still be incompatible with other carriers. This move is poised to benefit T-Mobile, who uses GSM phones, as new users can now sign up with them without having to jail-break the iPhone. If the T-Mobile-AT&T merger goes through, however, it'll end up making little difference to the end-user.
Unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 (in both black and white color) will retail for $649 for the 16GB, and $749 for the 32GB version.

My national carrier sticks a knife on our backs with fees. I payed a bit more for the unlocked phone, but i do travel, so now i can insert a local chip when im abroad.

News if you believe all readers are in the U.S. Sim free and contract free iPhone 4s have been available from Apple without any frowning in many other countries for a year or so. Congratulations to the U.S. for catching up!

Apple IS selling unlocked iPhones 4 via the online store. NOW. I don't know if all or any of the retail stores sell them yet.
Note that the online store will ship only to a US address and US credit card. Also, the warranty is valid only in the US. If you live elsewhere, you'll have to ship it to a US resident to take it for warranty issues - can't direct ship from out of the US.
