I had a repair done at the apple store where the replaced my hard drive and copied my other hard drive over to the new one.  Everything is fine except the time machine wont reconnect to my old file and is trying create a new file but not there is not enough space for both files files? Do I need to do something to have it continue to update my old file instead of recreating a new one?

Depending on what version of OSX you're running, and how the data was transferred, you may be out of luck.
If you're running Lion, and your backups were made to a directly-connected external HD (ie, not a Time Capsule or other network location), you may be able to get Time Machine to "associate" the new disk with the old backups.  See #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting, especially the pink box there.
If you're running Snow Leopard, you might be able to do a full system restore of your backups to the new HD.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14 for detailed instructions.  That should leave a "trail" that Time Machine can follow to "associate" the new drive with the old backups.  Unfortunately, that doesn't always work, and there's no way to do it manually, as there is with Lion.

  • My Bose SIE2i volume control does not work. (pause/play does work). This is the secone set - the apple store in Sydney replaced the firsat set that had the same problem. It was working OK and has stopped.

My Bose SIE2i volume control does not work. (pause/play does work). This is the second set - the apple store in Sydney replaced the first set that had the same problem. It was working OK and has stopped.

Thanks again V.K. I did check the layout, and it was listed as alphabet when I inputted the password. So that doesn't seems to the the issue.
Just finished a truly mystifying experiment, but I put in a shorter password in the way mentioned earlier and it worked. I then systematically kept increasing the characters of that password and it seems that if the password starts to exceed about 16, it stops recognizing it. I am fairly sure it is not the password itself since it never gives an error when typing in the verification password. So unless I systematically make the exact mistake twice at the setup screen, and then don't or make a different mistake every time at the login screen, I don't think its my typing skill.
So problem solved for now, but I am still a bit worried. Maybe I should completely reinstall and use a shorter password.
Is there supposed to be a length limit?

  • Will Apple stores in Germany replace your iPhone if there is internal hard drive problems from a phone from the US. I am studying abroad and won't be home until December

You can try, but the iPhone warranty terms state that Apple "may" restrict warranty/service to country of original purchase...key word here is "may".
    Good luck.

  • HT3302 if I take my iphone 5 into an apple store can they replace my cracked screen only?.

My phone slipped out of my hand landing face down on my kitchen floor. the screen is now cracked. nothing else is wrong with my phone and I want to only replace the screen. I don't see a need to get another phone if mine is fine (besides the big crack on the front.) I want to know if I take my phone to an apple store.. will/ can they replace the screen only? I'm not worried about price and I know warranty doesn't cover accidental damage.

Not many Apple Stores are equipped to repair iPhone front glass. If your local Apple Store did, it would be $149. Chances are, though, you will need to pay $229 for a replacement phone.

  • Why did the Santa Monica Apple Store Refuse to Replace My 85 watt 'Magnasafe' adapter as per the legal settlement paperwork that was emailed to me???

Went to Apple store in Santa Monica, with "ol Sparky", my faulty 'magnasafe' adapter that came apart at the strain relief...
The "Genius" there, refused to exchange it unless I also brought the computer.  The legal settlement paperwork just said to bring adapter, not the computer.  Store puppet said no deal, come back later.  I asked if there weren't sales records that could be used to facilitate the transaction, since I walked from the Canals to the Store, miles away.  Store puppet said no, handed me my legal notice I recieved via E-mail, and walked away.
Grrr.  6 mile walk for nothin'.  Thanks Apple!
    So, here are my thoughts...
    1.  There IS a sales record, or I would not have gotten a legal notice via email about the settlement.  The guy at the store lied to me.
    2.  The paperwork DOES NOT mention a requirement for bringing in the computer to replace the power adapter.  Guy lied again.
    3.  Apple does not apparently want to fix the problem.  Guy was consistant with this outcome.

You need to bring in both the mac and the adaptor.  You were misinformed, I don't know why the legal notice you recieved didn't mention that.  Read this article: http://www.topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/1456-apple-macbo ok-power-adapter-class-action-settlement- in which it states the following
"If you did not buy a replacement but your MagSafe adapter shows signs of Strain Relief Damage (e.g.; fraying, melting, straining, sparking, weakening, discoloration, bubbling, overheating and/or separation of the Adapter’s strain reliefs) now or in the future, you can claim a free replacement under Apple’s Adapter Replacement Program by taking your adapter and computer to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider or contacting AppleCare. "
Here is also a KB document from Apple that also states "Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements."  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4127
You can get one, just go back with your mac.  I know this is probably inconvenient (I wouldn't want to carry my mac 6 miles either), but it will resolve your issue.  Good luck

  • Apple Store Regent St, London - iPhone 4 Stock levels?

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows what days the Regent Street store in London usually get their stock of iPhone 4's in as I'm thinking of going all the way there tomorrow morning to purchase one. Can't call them because the store is closed unfortunately.
Would appreciate if anyone could provide me with some intelligence.
    Thank You. Much appreciated

    Check out this thread:

It seems you have to queue the day before as stock are pretty low right now.
    Good luck!

My iphone 4 power button does not work can i take it into apple store and replace it or what are some options

Assuming it is out of warranty Apple Genius bar will exchange for an out-of -warranty  replacement unit identical to the to donor

  • I heard that if you break the glass on you're iphone and you bring it to the apple store, you will replace the glass for free? Is that right?

    Is this true?

    A) Absolutely not true. There will be a replacement cost for an iPhone that is either out of warranty or that does not have Apple Care +. (AppleCare is different, note the + sign).
If you have Apple Care + on your phone (you will know because it will have had to have been after October 14, purchase date) then you will be eligible for a new phone swap AFTER seeing a Mobile Technician.
If you have AppleCare +, which now covers accidents, you must make an appointment and you must be seen by an Apple Mobile Ttechnician in order for them to authorize the swap. You cannot walk into a store and have anyone done it - it must be done by a tech.
Information about AppleCare+ AT TIME OF PURCHASE
    - $99 for two years of coverage
    - Within those two years you are allowed two incidents of accidental damage. They are $49 at the Genius Bar.
    - If a manufacturers defect (something wrong with the device and no damage has occured) is found, the phone is then repaired at no cost, and no incident of $49 will occur.

  • What happens when you take your iPod into the apple store for battery replacement?

I am taking mine in tomorrow. How do they decide if your battery is bad enough to get the iPod/battery replaced? What do they do with your iPod? Do they mess with the apps and data?? Do they search your history to see what you've done on it? HELP!

By reading the following, Apple exchanges your iPod for a refurbished (includes new battery) iPod. Data is no preserved/restore to the replacement
Apple - Support - iPod - Service FAQ
Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, or after-market personalizations. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data.
Attention iPod touch customers: Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPod touch and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPod touch may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need to restore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.
However, I have heard in this forum that sometimes Apple will just replace the battery.
If you are concerned I would do one fine sync/backup and then go to Settings>General>Reset>Ease aall content and settings.

  • Will Apple Store replace nano that cant hold charge?

    Hello,
I have a nano that cant hold a charge. I was told by a friend that if I take it to the apple store they'll replace it for free because the "1st generation nano batteries don't hold a charge". I bought it last November.
    Thanks
    mini-g

That would be pushing it, a bit. As I said before, if the problem was due to something completely beyond your ability to fix/intervene, and your warranty was still good, then they would most likely give you a replacement.
So, if that's the case, just head in, ask for the iPod tech that's on duty & explain the situation. He/she will most likely take it to run some diagnostics, and if they're not able to fix the problem, then they'll discuss replacement options. (My brother was able to upgrade from his 3rd gen to a new 60gb video with a little extra $$-might work for you too.)

  • If I have my iPhone 5 replaced at a Apple Store, can I have the colour of the device changed?

My iPhone 5 is faulty as its battery is overheating. I was thinking about taking the phone to an Apple Store for a replacement. Will I get to choose the colour of the phone or will I recieve the same colour?

It might help to think of the Apple Store Genius Bar in the same way that you would think of an auto mechanic's service bay.  Imagine that you have towed in a disabled car to have it fixed.  When the repair is done, the mechanic hands you the keys to a different model with a different engine and different option package.  Great deal right?  As I'm sure you can imagine, real life does not work this way.
You will only drive out with the same model that you towed in.  If you want a different model, your solution is not in the service department, but on the sales floor.  The Apple store is no different.

  • Can the apple stores replace a battery while you wait?

The battery on my MBA - late 2011, has lost it's ability to hold a good charge and I'm looking to replace the battery. If I go to an Apple Store, can they replace the battery while I wait or would it be shipped out for replacement the same as if I took it to a local authorized repair center?

So I was finally able to get through to the store, but they didn't provide any meaningful help - they can't tell me if they can replace the part without a consultation first.
It strikes me as odd, since I can give them the problem I'm having (need a new battery), the serial number (though AppleCare confirmed they have the parts at the store), so I would expect that they could tell me if I drop it off by X they can have the battery replaced the same day.
Honestly this is the first disappointing experience I've had trying to get Apple support for an issue on one of my systems.
