My iPhone 5 is faulty as its battery is overheating. I was thinking about taking the phone to an Apple Store for a replacement. Will I get to choose the colour of the phone or will I recieve the same colour?

It might help to think of the Apple Store Genius Bar in the same way that you would think of an auto mechanic's service bay. Imagine that you have towed in a disabled car to have it fixed. When the repair is done, the mechanic hands you the keys to a different model with a different engine and different option package. Great deal right? As I'm sure you can imagine, real life does not work this way.
You will only drive out with the same model that you towed in. If you want a different model, your solution is not in the service department, but on the sales floor. The Apple store is no different.

Schedule an appointment with the Genius bar and let them evaluate the device. Where it was purchased (online or in store) is not relevant.
Keep in mind though, warranty and service are only available in the country where the device was originally sold by Apple or their official reseller.

I am not sure what device you are trying to replace the battery on, but usually the battery is at least 30% of the cost of the device from what I have read. Apple likes to keep a monopoly on batteries I think. I have never seen them replace a battery at the store, usually they have to ship it out. You can find batteries for sale online, but you will have to crack the device open yourself.

As of now, they do not offer an unlocked option.

Hi, I bought my unlocked iPhone 4S at a local mobile shop in Singapore early this year and lately the phone has hung and reset by itself on a number of occasions. I cannot even update the phone over the air. Is it possible for me to have it check or even replaced it at the Apple Store Genius Bar in HK? Or do I have to have it repaired or replaced locally in Singapore itself? Many thanks for any guidance & advice.

The warranty is only valid in the country of original sale (The EU is considered 'one country' for service and warranty purposes.)
If you bought it in Singapore, you will have to take it back for service in Singapore.

Within the warranty period, unless the failure was caused by accidental damage it will be replaced for free.

Not covered by warranty. If you make an appointment at an Apple store, you will be offered an out of warranty replacement. Cost is US $199 for an iPhone 4S.
