Apple tv automatic updates etc?
Hi all, last night (3am ish) I noticed that my cable modem and router wer busy even though all of my wireless devices and computers were switched off, all except my Apple TV
so my question is, does the Apple TV do any kind of auto updates, system maintainence routines or such that would make it actively use my wireless network on its own?
btw I use airport extreme base station with all of the usual security, WPA, hidden SSID and I use mac address filtering, so I would doubt that anyone has gained access to my network (could be wrong though?)
I'm guessing it's the Apple TV doing something?

OSX runs CRON scripts for maintenance at 3.00 a.m. It's possible the tv does the same.
auto updates have been implemented though. as i read a document that gave instructions on how to disable it.

How would it be possible to turn off automatic updates on an apple TV 3? I am working with several in a school enviroment connected to our projectors. And for security reasons they are put above the cieling so they are out of sight with cabling going through the trunking. So it's obviously a pain everytime an update prompt appears on screen making airplay useless until someone opens the cieling tiles (Due to the infrared not going through the tiles) to click update now.
Thanks.@ David -- Even worse, it's not really an automatic update - that would actually fix the problem. It's an automatic prompt for update that can't be dismissed unless you have a remote.
@ Malignance -- That doesn't work either because the only way to connect your Remote App to the AppleTV is by authenticating with an AppleID, which is not feasible in a public space like a classroom or office.
I really wish Apple would provide an actual auto-update option so that I could just have my appletv update itself in the middle of the night instead of blocking me right at the moment I need to use the device. -

The update didn't apply correctly. You need to grab a micro usb cable and connect to iTunes for restore

I have an original Apple ID from my personal iPhone and iPad. I bought a MacBook Pro for business and the Apple Store clerk told me to use the old Apple ID to make setup faster and that I could change to a new one later. So... I did all that and changed the Apple ID everywhere I can find a place to do so. And everything seems okay, except the Automatic Updates download tool defaults back to my original Apple ID. That old Apple ID is grayed out in the login, so I cannot seem to change it to download and update under my new, business-related Apple ID for my MacBook Pro. What to do?
Yes, absolutely, you can still use the old ID to update, etc., but I understood the OP to want to simply discard the old one and use only the new one. Maybe I misunderstood...
And, actually just now re-reading the first post, it could be that the ID had only been associated with the iDevices, so if he established a new ID and associated that with the new MBP, I frankly have no idea if he can still use the old ID on that machine (based on him saying that the old ID is greyed out) - have not come up with this type of situation before. -
I'm running Windows 7 and iTunes (and the other Apple programs) wouldn't automatically update. Went through all the options and finally had to delete all Apple files and re-download iTunes. Worked fine, until the next update. Is there a glitch in the system? Does someone know of some proprietory block (I think it is related to Quicktime)? Also, once I re-downloaded everything, cleaned everything up, and deleted duplicate files, I closed down my computer. When I re-started it, iTunes was "brand new" -- all of my music, organization, tagging, etc. was gone and had to start over. Idea?
Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

Hi guys, please help, I'm desperate.
After an automatic update to my windows 8.1 yesterday none of my other other wireless devices like smart phones, tablets, etc. can join my wireless network unless my laptop is turned on. If I turn my laptop off, after a couple of minutes my iphone,
my wife's iphone and my Galaxy Tab lose connection and are unable to join my router's network. When I turn my laptop back on, all the other devices are able to use my router's wireless internet without any problems. How can I fix this???

First, I suggest to reset the router, meanwhile disable the network card and enable it again, because it is obviously network issue.
Then, as you post this happened after windows update, try to find the update that was already installed on your computer

I have automatic upload etc. activated in Photo Stream. I just uploaded new photos from my camera to my MacBook Pro, but nothing is sowing up on my iPhones my iMacs iPad or on Apple TV. Does anyone have. Any suggestions as to what I can. Do? I am currently on permahold with. apple Help.

Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

I travel fulltime and use a mobile hotspot for my internet access. I use my apple TV mainly to be able to stream movies to my TV. Since the 6.0 update I can no longer controll when I update the Apple TV. This is more than an inconvenience since the auto update has caused data usage overrun and higher phone bills. At $10/gbite this not a cost efective for a minor update. Is there a way to turn off the auto update feature of the Aple TV?

I am running OSX 10.4.11 on my iMac; Firefox automatically updated to version 12, and now it will not run on my computer.

Please keep in mind that not only is Firefox not receiving any updates (thus rendering it insecure), neither is Mac 10.4 or any of the plugins used on it. Running such an old Operating System is dangerous to your information's security on the internet. something for you to keep in mind. -
Armenian time is wrong in Apple server. I try to turn off automatically update,but then i cant call through facetime.
Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

What has the Apple support team done to the Top Sites screen? I just accepted an automatic update to be downloaded to my iMAC, and as a result of this "fix installation" the layout of the Top Sites screen has been terribly "destroyed"! What's the idea?

I have an apple TV 2 which mirrors my ipad and iphone beautifully. I want to do the same with my 'later 2011' macbook pro but there is no option I have checked firewalls and done all updates etc but no joy...PLEASE HELP!

Same problem here after update to 10.7.3 and I need to manually set the wireless. If I disable wireless and reable it again the wireless connects ok

I live in Somerset, UK, but having recently come back from a trip to Germany, my iPad thinks it is still in Germany. Is there any way to correct this? I am new to apple conventions, but thought this was an automatic update when the iPad locks on to a local Wifi hotspot. Any thoughts out there?
Thank you all for responding - much appreciated, but none of the advice has shifted my location from Germany. Time Zone is shown as Lonon, Region Format is shown as UK, and Reset Network Settings seemed only to switch off the Wifi connection.
I'll leave it at that I think, and make do with the iPad thinking it's in Germany.
