Apple TV can't access iTunes, but I can send a movie from my iMac to Apple TV

Why does my Apple TV 50% of the time not access my iTunes on my iMac, but when I go to my iMac and play a movie, I can then send that movie to my Apple TV and it works 100% of the time.  When I try accessing the iTunes from my Apple TV it says, "Unable to connect to [email protected] library.  I have 5 Apple TV's in my house and this only happens to the last two Apple TV's I purchased.  Any suggestions besides the obvious"make sure home sharing is turned on, on all your devices", would be much appreciated.  They are all set to wireless and they all have excellent signal strength.

I completely understand what is happening. I know that you are connected to the Internet. I made the suggestion because I have seen it work in similar circumstances. The Apple iTunes servers can be a bit fussy about things and sometimes rebooting the router clears up this miscommunication between iTunes and your network.
Have you tried signing into your account and then try to sync again. Go to Store>View Account. You will have to enter your password. Then try to sync again. Or try signing out completely in Store>Sign out. Quit iTunes, sign in again and then try to sync again.
Sometimes refreshing settings will help clear up weird problems.

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

    No problem.
    This is a user forum so you are not addressing Apple. There's nothing to fix, that's how home-sharing works. There would be no way for the ATV to recognize your library and display content if the computer is in sleep mode.
    You can always airplay from an IOS device or use icloud if you don't wish to keep the computer on.

  • Can't access iTunes, but there's no reason for it

    Hello,
    I've been having trouble with the iTunes store for a few weeks now. I gave the problem time to "fix itself" in case it was caused by maintenance to the store, but I'm pretty sure that "maintenance" would not last this long, so I've decided to ask other iTunes users about it.
    It seems that accessing the store is a common issue, so I followed all of the recommended steps to make sure that everything was in order before posting this. I ran diagnostics in iTunes and was told that a secure connection was established to the store and there were no other connection issues. I checked to see if the iTunes and iTunesHelper processes were allowed on my computer, and they were. None of my anti-virus or anti-spyware programs (avast!, Ad-Aware and SpyBot: Search and Destroy) are blocking iTunes. My computer is authorized to access the store, and I have the latest version of iTunes. In other words, nothing should be causing iTunes service to shift in and out on my computer (I can occasionally access the store, but most of the time I do not even get a proper "loading" bar - just the striped bar that reads "Accessing iTunes Store"). The strangest part is that the store worked perfectly on my computer until a few weeks ago.
    If I have done all of this and can still not access the store properly, there must be something that I'm missing, so I would really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get this problem fixed and keep enjoying iTunes.
    (If it is of interest, I do not have administrator rights on my computer.)

    I have been having the same problem for the past few weeks as well. I can usually get to the main itunes page but then it gets stuck and eventually times out trying to get to other parts of the site.

    I can't access google in any browser ( Chrome, Explorer,Firefox). It just does not load. But i don't have any problem with any other sites. Actually i could even access google just yesterday.
    I've tried deleting the cookies, installing anti-malware softwares, i cleared the cache, i cleared all the history etc... I basically tried everything that was proposed on previous questions but nothing helps.

    A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
    Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
    You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
    Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

    You may think you are connected to the internet, but maybe not. Click on Safari and see if it connects.

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

    Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

    This works for some users. Not sure why.
    Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

    The following Knowledge Base article offers some step-by-step instruction for changing the email for your Apple ID:
    Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
    Sign out of iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, and iMessage on each device that uses your current Apple ID for these services.
    Go to My Apple ID.
    Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in. Forgot your password?
    Select Edit next to Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
    Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID, then select Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
    Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now. Didn't receive the email?
    When the My Apple ID page opens, sign in with your new Apple ID email address and password. When you see a message that verification is complete, you can start using your updated Apple ID.

    Have you checked your security software is allowing access for iTunes, which security software are you using.
