Apple TV dropping home sharing with Win 7 Pro
Judging by the amount of problems people are having with this I'm not really expecting a resolution but I thought I'd give it a shot. I bought an Apple TV last week. Been wanting one now for a while.. I must say, I'm really disappointed with my decision on buying one now. Being a Apple user for a while now (MBP, IPhone, iPods) I had hoped that this product would be much better. I've been messing around since I bought it just to get home sharing working. My main PC, being a Windows 7 pro machine with all my media on it is hard wired to my router. With iTunes open and home sharing on, the Apple TV will not see any of my music or video. Following some of the suggestion I've been reading here I've tried everything from uninstalling iTunes, Bonjour, deauthorizing the machine and authorizing. Opening up the relevent ports on my router and too many other options I can't remember. What I found out is then when I reboot my router, home sharing comes on, lasts for maybe 15 - 20 mins then I cannot access anything from that main PC again until I reboot the router again. All this time, when I cannot access my media, if I turn on my MBP and start home sharing on this machine it works everytime. Both my MBP and Apple TV or wireless and the main PC is wired. I'm guessing that maybe there's something that needs to be changed on my router but I've tried most things suggested with no results. Only rebooting it will get it working again for another 15-20 mins. And I am using the latest version of iTunes on both my MBP and Windows PC. I even tried disabling the firewall on the PC and it still doesn't fix the issue. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on this very frustrating issue. At this point I'm ready to bring the Apple TV back and buy something different.

Apple TV dropping home sharing connection
Previous setuo with my Mac mini and Apple TV 3rd gen was fine, wired network connection.
New setup with MB Pro is wireless connection, ATV keeps dropping Home Sharing. Both on same network.
iTunes is up to date and so is ATV. I have to log out of iTunes Home Sharing, log in and then sometimes
have to restart ATV. Not sure what is going on. I have MBP set not to go to sleep and to wake on wifi.
Very frustrating.Hi there BaldElvis,

TS2972 Apple TV drops home sharing
I have follwed all the instructions on how to fix the Home Sharing issue. NOthing works. I cant hold it for more than 30 minutes
Welcome to the Apple community.
The first thing to check would be that both devices are on the same network, after checking this, ensure that any firewall or security software installed on your computer is not blocking access for iTunes. -
Apple TV Dropping WiFi Connection with Home Sharing
I am currently having trouble with my Apple TV and Home Sharing. My Apple TV will connect to my WiFI network (which is only 802.11g) and stream from either the iTunes store for movies, and from YouTube using that connection fine. My trouble starts when I try to connect to another computer with Home Sharing. When I try to connect to another computer (my MacBook Pro, for example, which is also on the same WiFi network) to stream content across the network, the Apple TV looses it's connection, and then the router kicks everything else on WiFi off the network. I am using WPA for WiFi security on the router. I turned off WPA, and everything streamed across the network fine, no drop outs on the Apple TV. I can stream from a desktop connected to the router via ethernet fine (with or without the WiFi security enabled). I think it is probably the router (it is just a little DLINK I picked up a little while back), but I wanted another opinion or some troubleshooting ideas before I do.
I am having this problem too, I also have a dlink router. Everything works fine until I try using homeshare, after a minute or so I lose all wifi router connections on everything connected via wifi, iPad,iPhone and aptv2. I have to wait for the router to reset/restart to use again. It's very odd, it even happens if I connect the atv2 via Ethernet so it's not a wifi glitch.
Any suggestions? -
Why Apple Tv 2 drop Home Sharing connection after few minutes?
I just installed an Apple TV 2. Internet connection applications as Apple Store, Youtbe, etc work very well but it drops Library`s communication just after a few minutes. I`m running files like music that are in the library in a PC with Windows Vista.
I`ve been reading other discussions and have done every thing that was suggested as:
- setting Static IP address
- have set Firewall with the ports are supposed to open
- have set Port Forwarding on the router (a Linksys WRT54GS)
- have updated Network Card driver
- have updated router firmware
- turned off sleepling mode and screen saver
- restored Apple TV 2
- reset router
- installed last Itunes version
All that and possibily other things that I do not remember right now but still looseingconnection to the Library after a few minutes. I have realized first time I put a slide show of pictures with music background and the music always stops after the second music. After that you just see the message that you need to turn on the Library related to my Apple ID.
Today I did a test with a home sharing with another computer I have that runs Windows 7 and guess what: the Home Sharing worked fine!
So, my conclusion is that there is some flaw on Home Sharing when running Itunes in Windows Vista or specificly with this computer running the Windows Vista.
I have done a research and have not found anything else. So, could anyone have a hint of what is going on?
Thanks,
RicardoYesterday were released the IOS 5.1 and the Itunes 10.6. I thought that updating the IOS on the Apple TV 2 and the Itunes on PC, my problems would go away. I did that but for my surprise it has NOT.
Then I had a recall that I have read somewhere a while ago about issues with the AVAST Anti-Virus and Home Sharing, that can generate connectivity issues,
In one of my first temptatives to resolve this issue I have stopped the AVAST and I still had the problem, so I left this trail of solution. But since nothing was working I decided to uninstall it. I was a little skeptical about it but gave a shoot.
To my surprise, when I uninstalled it, booted the computer and did the Home Sharing, the problem was FIXED!
That made total sense because the other computer that runs Windows 7 and I have tested before, worked fine, it runs AVIRA as Anit-Virus software.
So my conclusion is that, on my case, the AVAST caused the issue and to stop its service was not enough to diagnose the issue. I had to uninstall it, believe or not. And that the issue has nothing to do with Windows Vista OS but with AVAST.
After that, I uninstall AVIRA as Anti Virus software and, since that, the Library and Home Sharing (24 h ago) is working perfectly and I think that will stay. -

How do I use Home Sharing with two different apple accounts?
How do I use Home Sharing with two different apple accounts?
Morning Saintine,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household. To do so, you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID.

Have a problem with Home Sharing with Apple TV and iTunes. Have latest iTunes and Apple TV downloads. Have both items set up for home sharing with same address and passwords. AppleTV running fine for everything else. FYI, my library is about 60gigs. AppleTV model is MD199LL/A if that matters. Really want to hear my entire music library and not just Purchased items. Thanks for any help!!!
I have an older PC with Windows XP Professional on it. I updated to the latest iTunes and I am able to access the photos, etc. on it. However, my Windows 7 PC still does work (since last Apple TV update). Apple TV does not recognize that Home Sharing is turned here. The latter PC has all my current photos on it which I would like share with others on my Apple TV. A fix would be appreciated.

On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with apple tv
On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with my apple tv. This problem started about two itunes updates ago. Any thoughts?
Try a search of the forums or the "More Like This" section to the right.
Also might have better luck posting to the Apple TV forum. -
Can't access home sharing with current Apple ID info
I can't access Home Sharing with my current Apple ID info. But I can access the discussions forum with my current Apple ID info though. This is very strange. Anyone having this problem? I tried turning on the Home Sharing function in the iTunes Advanced menu, but to no avail because it won't accept my current Apple ID info. I have the ATV2 model.
Message was edited by: Charles SwaimMy ATV 2 can get view movies from Netflix and Youtube without a problem, but when there's a need to use my Apple ID for the Home Sharing function -- from either my Mac or the ATV 2 -- it won't work. It's weird how my Apple ID can access this discussion group without a problem, but can't engage the Home Sharing. I'll see if there's another update available for the ATV 2. Hopefully that might help. Many thanks for trying to help.

Is there soneone out there - that know how to enable home sharing - with out give up your credit card information to Apple !!!!!
This goes for the Apple ID - that need to "setup" (read give more money to Apple) - and wants your credit card info to complete
and it seem like if your skip that part in the Apple ID part - your can not use Home sharingThanks, for telling us how to get an Apple ID without a credit card [sarcasm].
I found out be someone other than an Apple employee how to get an Apple ID without using a credit card...
You register for the Apple ID by going through your iTunes application instead of going straight to the internet via a browser. There will be a "NONE" icon to click, right next to the credit cards and Pay Pal icons, on the credit card page of the registration. That's how I FINALLY was able to get my Apple ID so I can use Home Sharing for my AppleTV.
Just to show how cheap the reply was to my question above [via Slash_Gordon/the account that won't allow me into the Apps Store, and won't give me a workable Apple ID for Home Sharing]... Apple sent me a cheap reply today, leading me to this useless conversation thread which had no answer to my problem, which now has the answer in this comment>>
Go to the iTunes Store through your iTunes application [not your internet browser] > Click on "App Store" at top of page > Click on "Sign In" > A small window opens > Click on "Create Apple ID" > another page will appear in the iTunes application > Click on "Continue" > Agree to their "Terms and Conditions" by checking the "agree" square > Then click on "Agree" > Fill out all the "Provide Apple ID Details" on the next page > Then click on the "NONE" on the credit card/PayPal page and fill out the rest below... not the credit card info, though... finish up. That "NONE" icon is the key, which doesn't appear when we try to register via an internet browser.
It seems, Apple is purposely being vague so they can get credit card info. I wish they would prove it isn't true by actually giving me the needed info in my email, instead of leading me to a converstion thread which had no solution to the problem. They should have a Support page giving the solution... of course, they'll say they do have one, and really don't. Well, now you have the solution right here, thanks to someone that gave me the solution when I Googled long enough for it. -
Internet connection drops when I use Home Sharing with my iPod Touch
Hi,
I have two PCs (Windows 7 and Windows Vista) both with iTunes 10.2.1 and an iPod Touch with iOS 4.3.1.
When I use iTunes' Home Sharing with my iPod Touch, that is, I stream music, podcasts, etc from either one of my PC computers to my iPod Touch, a few minutes later both laptops, as well as my iPod Touch, lose Internet connectivity. While home sharing continues, Internet connection is lost. I have to unplug my modem and wireless router to get back my Internet connection. The problem, however, recurs again and again.
Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
DaveI am having the same problem. My MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even the PC all lose internet connectivity;but home sharing still continues to function properly on ATV2.
I'm not too savvy on routers and modems, but could the problem be my router's capacity? -
Can't see my computer from the Apple Tv although home sharing is on in both devices and I can choose Apple Tv as an output from my computer.
