Applescript Studio Problems, Web Browser

Hey,
I'm attempting an application using Applescript in Xcode because I just can't get my head around objective-c.
So far I have a GUI with a button and a webview both linked to this code:
on clicked (theObject)
if the name of theObject is "loadgoogle" then
tell mainwindow
open location "http://google.com"
end tell
end if
end clicked
It compiles fine but when I click the button nothing happens.
Could someone please enlighten me?
Kind Regards

Are you really using *AppleScript Studio*, or are you just dropping the old handlers into a new AppleScriptObjC project?
If you are creating a new project, note that AppleScript Studio is deprecated in Snow Leopard. You can still edit existing AppleScript Studio projects (which explains why it compiles), but your on clicked handler does not meet the new naming protocol used in AppleScriptObjC and Interface Builder.
See the AppleScriptObjC Release Notes - it has information about enabling the AppleScript Studio palette in Interface Builder (the AppleScript Studio project templates have been removed, though). There is also a AppleScriptObjC in Xcode tutorial at MacScripter that should get you started.

  • AppleScript Studio Problems...

I have documented some AppleScript Studio problems that I have encountered, along with some screenshots.
Hopefully somebody might have a clue what is causing the problems.

    Steve,
This is the message I sent earlier with new findings:
After I deleted "Smart Crash Reports.bundle" in /Library/InputManagers/, I rebooted, went to AS Studio to see if there were any problems, and guess what ?
The Debugger started working. It's been broken as long as I can remember. Every time I've wanted to learn how to work with AS Studio since it came out, the Debugger has never worked, and I always ended up moving on to something else.
    This is awesome...

    Hi Bill.
Make sure you're building a debug version of the project in order for breakpoints to work. In Xcode you set this with Project > Set Active Build Configuration > Debug .
This was the very first thing I checked the other day when I started trying to learn AS Studio in earnest.
Also I don't think those messages you are seeing about Smart Crash REports.bundle actually indicate that the app has crashed; it's just reporting that it can't load this bundle for some reason, and then proceeding anyway - I don't see anything that indicates your app has crashed.
    I read a long article at : http://daringfireball.net/2006/01/smartcrashreports
and came away without a real solution. It was close to 3 am so I was barely awake, but came away confused as to what the solution was. I had used Unsanity's products particularly the menu product, but they caused too many problems with Quickeys and 4th Dimension. After talking to the people that write Quickeys, I disabled all their stuff and everything started working fine with Quickeys and 4D. They are far more important for me, that the Unsanity stuff.
I agree with the Daring Fireball article, and am annoyed that Unsanity patches the OS without asking for permission. I won't buy their products any more.
That bundle is something that certain third-party applications install which attempts to email crash reports for their apps back to their authors, rather than to Apple. I don't know what app you might have installed that included this but it would probably be safe to remove the bundle. (Double clicking on it wouldn't do anything; it's not intended to be double clicked; it just sits there and waits to be loaded.)
After I wrote the original message I realized that it wasn't double clickable, but by then it was too late. I think it was probably Unsanity's APE, or FruitMenu. If you look at /Library/InputManagers/ there's an "info" file, and a "Smart Crash Reports.bundle". I just deleted both of them, if it causes a problem I'll copy them from another machine that doesn't have it. I'm not sure but I believe they patch the original one from Apple. I'm not sure if that is correct?

  • I turn on my computer, click on the Firefox icon on my desktop, the web browser appears but the same screen always appears and says, "Well this is embarrassing" and says the problem is due to a previously opened tab.

I am online everyday. I turn on my computer and click on the Firefox icon. A web browser appears but not with my Yahoo! homepage. Instead of seeing my Yahoo! homepage I see a screen that says, "Well this is embarrassing." I read that the problem is due to a recently opened tab. It gives me the options of either restoring all previously used tabs from the last time of use or starting a new session. If I choose to restore previous tabs, I am further given the option to select which tabs I want restored and which ones I don't want to restore. I always choose to start a new session because all previous tabs consist of work that I have completed in the past (whether it be yesterday or the day before). I, therefore, have no interest in restoring a tab that contained an article about our current economic situation for example. As previously stated, I choose to start a new session every time I receive the "Well this is embarrassing" error message. When I choose this option, I am brought to a fresh tab with no information regarding work, articles, or entertainment from yesterday or some time in the past. I wish to have an explanation as to why this happens. I do not go on any malicious web sites or anything of the sort. This happens every single day. The automatic error message that appears is "Well this is embarrassing." For Firefox to say "Well this is embarrassing" is not close to the response it should give.

  • When I start mozilla firefox web browser, sometimes I see a message saying that "a Mozilla Firefox is already running, please close it or restart your program", while I don't have one running at that time. What is the problem?

When I start mozilla firefox web browser, sometimes I see a message saying that "a Mozilla Firefox is already running, please close it or restart your system". As a matter of fact, there is no firefox browser running at that time. Since I cannot do anything about it, I have to restart my computer before I can use the web browser, which bothers me dearly. What is the problem?

Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting to close Firefox. The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window, it does not necessarily close Firefox .
'''The only proper way to exit Firefox is to use Exit through the File menu''', not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.
''Menus hidden: then use Alt+F then X.''

Use the '''Windows Task Manger''' to remove all running firefox.exe in the "Processes"

"'''Restartless Restart'''" extension for Firefox 4.0 only (2 KB download )

use to close and restart Firefox after enabling or disabling an extension, switching
to a new theme, or modifying configuration files, then you don't have to worry
about delay or have to look in the Task Manager to see if Firefox is closed yet.
Uses keyboard shortcut "'''Ctrl+Alt+R'''" or a file menu option.
'''Windows 7''' users can use '''Ctrl+Shift+Esc''' to get to the Windows Task Manager quicker than starting with Ctrl+Alt+Del.

  • The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again.OK. I followed the instruction and the problem still persists.

I got the following pop-up when I tried to open an online PDF file:
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again.
I tried many time, and it really doesn't work.
The plug-in I have is Adobe Acrobat 8.3.0.280

After I upgraded to Firefox 5, I had the same problem and I did a work around temporarily. I went the tools menu, then Add-ons, then clicked the "Plugins" on the left side (4th one down). I "disabled" both Adobe Acrobat 8.3.0.280 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.0.536 using the disable buttons on the right side. PDF files now open again. However they are outside the actual browser.
My guess is that Adobe didn't catch up yet with a new update to work with Firefox or vice versa.
    Hope that helps!

  • Problem with Acrobat X in web browser

When I try to open .pdf files or, in this latest case, submit a job application I get the following dialog box:
'The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again.'
    Any clues?

Thanks for pointing out my errors in communication.
I am referring to Windows 7.  I have Adobe Acrobat 8.0
As for using the Adobe Reader forum, the problem is not reading, but the inability to "print" to .pdf, and so this would seem to be the more appropriate forum.  The reference is the Reader is just to communicate the error message I receive.

  • Acrobat X pro - Problem viewing PDF files in web browser

I've recently upgraded to the latest Imac and have experianced one or two teething problems with software compatibility with OS X 10.7.1 Lion (most now resolved)
My latest issue is viewing online PDF's which appear in my browser as just a blank black page. This happens in both Safari and Firefox (both latest versions)
My question is: Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I was able install and view the files in adobe reader 10.1.1 and in web browser window 7 64 bit machine.  But when I go to Edit-preferences-internet and  unchecking "display PDF in Browser" , I am not able to view the pdf files in ie 9 browser.  I have used this javscript to check for pdf version.
    Immediately after installing adobe--
when I do adobe test in ie 9---https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html--  launches a test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf
After unchecking-- it stays in the  https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html instead of showing test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf
Tried to go back to "display PDF in Browser"--it is showing it is checked(eventhough I did not check it)
    and in ie
it stays in the https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html instead of showing test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf

What is the type of file you are trying to download? Is it occurring with all types of files? Are you trying it to download it on memory card. If answer is yes to all the questions then do this:-
remove the security code (if any) from the memory card -  switch off the device - remove the memory card - connect the card  to PC using a card reader - open My Computer - Right click on the card in win explore menu to open its properties - select tools - error check - select both the options. From the menu select defragmenter after error check.
    2 things to note-
The above method works for Win 7.
Do take a complete backup of all the data especially images as windows error check may make images readable only in phone.
Please mark the post as solution if it solves your problem.

about 2 weeks ago, I updated my firmware from v20 to v21, and i've been experiencing problems with my web browser now...
before the update, i would surf the net for about 3 or more hours without disruption ( i am connected through wlan)but now just about 5 to 15 mins and my browser would close down on me... it happens most of the time... is there any work around for this?

I had the same problem and I solved clearing the browser cache. Cache folder is not accesible from the standar Nokia File Browser. You can install Y-Browser (http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html) in your Nokia Phone and the delete all the files in C:\cache directory.
It worked fine in my case but I have read searching in Google that it didn´t worked with other persons.
Another thing, Y-Browser gets installed in a new folder called DrJukka.com in the main "Menu", not in the usual "Applications" folder.
