Applets on Windows Active Desktop

I've tried a couple of other forums with no results. No one seems to know the answer to my problem. Maybe someone here can help.
I am trying to get a simple JApplet to appear on my active desktop. I have winXPpro and JDK1.5.
My applet works fine in both IE(browser) and Firefox. But on the active desktop (which uses IE, I believe) it simply shows up as a gray box.
Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Applet woes on Active Desktop

Has anyone had any luck creating an applet that you display on the active desktop? I created a simple applet that runs on my desktop as an active desktop component. It stopped working and I can't figure out why. It works perfectly if you open the html with Internet Explorer, but if you open the Active Desktop item, it doesn't work at all.
It use to, but something has changed and I can't figure out what it is.
Any suggestions?

I ran a different applet that I had created and it worked perfectly. I am completely stumped. It looks like everything is working when you open in Internet Explorer, but it doesn't work as an Active Desktop Item.
Also, there is one other problem that could be the cause. I will post that in another topic. Thanks!

WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED gives focus back to applet window

Testcase:
Form A calls form B
Form B performs this code:
BEGIN
web.show_document(url);
exit_form;
END;
This should open a new browser window to the URL and keep the focus on it.
However, when form A has a WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED trigger (even when the only code is NULL;), it return the focus to the forms applet browser window the first time.
This is very annoying because the new browser window can no longer be seen as it is put on the background. Strangly enough, the following times the focus remains on the new browser window.
Is this a known bug?
PS: The problem is that i really need a WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED trigger in my form A to perform some webutil-functions.
Environment:
Forms Developer 10g Release 2
Application Server 10g Release 2
Window 2000/Xp
Oracle Jinitiator 1.3.1.22

In which trigger are you calling Form B? As I said, the EXIT_FORM event would take you back to Form A after opening the browser window, so what happens next depends on what code it fires once returning to Form A.
Have you tried it with debug messages on to see what triggers it is firing? (both first time round & subsequently). Logically, I would have actually expected focus to return to Form A following the EXIT_FORM, but maybe I'm wrong ni thinking that.
Have you experimented with the various WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT options (e.g. WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(url, '_self') to get a different behaviour?

Emet 5.1 had DEP activity and closed Office 2003 applications and won't allow Internet Explorer to open in Windows 8 desktop version

I can't find any answer to why EMET 5.1 blocks Internet Explorer from running in Windows 8 Desktop version. Initially Google Chrome wouldn't work either but after uninstalling EMET 5.1 and reinstalling it Chrome now works. Also it prevents Microsoft
Office 2003 Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Publisher from running. It says DEP mitigation and closing application. I also get the error that Microsoft Office Access or other applications has stopped working and they only work under safe mode.
How do you get these applications to work in EMET 5.1? Do I need to get rid of EMET 5.1? Or are there other solutions.

uninstall pse 10 (properly using the adobe uninstaller).
clean - Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
then try reinstalling using the adobe installation file(s).

and ask for an activation count reset.

Active desktop component

My java applet does not display on WinXP desktop on setting it as active desktop component. I have set the .html file containing the applet as active component.
Otherwise the browser shows the applet fine.

Active desktop?

Active desktop? I think that's what they called it in Windows. Does anyone know how I can set a desktop image that moves? I know how to go through preferences and choose a file. But I found a little GIF on the internet, a little face with bliking eyes, that I would like to use as the image on my desktop. -- A silly, waste of time quest. But no matter how I download it, and no matter where I save it, the image that is saved to the desktop doesn't blink. Thanks for any help.

What you downloaded is an animated gif. AFAIK desktop does not support animated gifs. You can drag it to a Safari window and it will animate. You can also drag it into a Text Edit window and it will animate but not on desktop or in Screensavers. Someone may know a workaround but I haven't seen it.

LV2009 and Active Desktop

I have a machine code done in LV2009 and running on WIN-7 platform. All well till the client decided to invoke Active Desktop on his PC. For some odd reason there have been random freezing of the LV application since then. Confirmed on two independent machines on two different networks.
Not sure what is the offending part of active desktop. The active desktop is part of a recent security beef up at my client end and all networked PCs on LAN have to run the active desktop with the company logo and such. Unfortunatley I cannot take the PC of the network as all data saving happens on a networked drive.
Any idea why this is happening and if its a known issue any way out ?? Thanks in advance.

Change Active Desktop VM?

Hey all,
I've just written an Applet that I have embedded into my Active Desktop. The problem is that I can't run it since the Microsoft VM (version 1.1.4) is running on my Active desktop, even though Java Plug-in 1.4.2 is running in IE.. Does anyone know how to change the VM for the Active Desktop, or of any kind of work-around?

Windows active directory

Hi, i want to write a windows application in LV which can have a single Sign-on concept. I want the users to be able to log into the application (exe located on the desktop) with-out any log-in prompts.
However, if the user wants to switch his/her role in between, the application must go to the login screen and prompt for a user name and password. This username and password must be in sync with the "windows active directory". can anyone help?

I'm confused! You want a user to login into your application without login prompt or you want him to be able to startup the application without login? The first seems highly contradictory to me.
The requirments about using the login credentials of a Windows domain setup are most easily met by using .Net functionality. I have used in the past Windows API functionality for this which has some extra features that seem not available in .Net at all, but that is a very complicated and cumbersome interface that I can't recommend to use to anyone.

My company is using Windows Active Directory and now we are going to replace it with Novell solution. Is there any product from Novell to replace Windows Active Directory for 2 main features?
- Group Policy
- Windows users and workstations authentication and administration
I did some researches on Domain Service for Windows, Identity Manager, ZENworks. Could you give me advice on which product meet my requirement?

Trying to login to Windows active directory at work

I take my iMac back and forth between home and work. We have multiple types of servers which I can log into. But I'm unable to login to the Windows Active Directory. Note that I can login with the windows desktop. Just not my iMac which I strongly prefer to use.
I went into \applications\utilities\directory access and put in the directory domain (as shown in the windows computer) and typed in what I want it to see as my computer name and then clicked on Bind.
A new window opens (Network Administration Required) screen asking for my Username, password, and Computer OU: and I put them in as they show on my windows computer and hit enter.
A new window comes up showing "Invalid domain" An invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified. You should enter a fully qualified DNS name for the domain and forest (e.g., ads.company.com).
Tech support says they don't support anything other than Windows XP and don't look at all sorry about it. Any idea how I can find out the information I need from my Windows computer and typing things in at the command prompt?

Note that are computers come preconfigured and already connecting to our Windows server. So users don't enter any information other than user-name and password to get in.
So they have to create a computer name (like creating a user) on the server and then tell me what it is and I put the same info in my computer to login. Hmmm. Now the question is whether they will do that for me or not.
