Appleworks quitting whilst using data to prepare a chart

New to appleworks for preparing charts, I've so far been successful, however had a problem with the series info, which thro' playing around with I solved, just got it going how I wanted it to and the whole application quit on me. I had highlighted the data, clicked on the graph button, chose my chart (pie), clicked ok, then it throws me out (had almost finished 1st time round but duh, didn't save it ! So I know it was working fine)- I keep repeating the process to get my pie chart back, but it keeps throwing me out - any tips to resolve this !
Many thanks

Hello
Aren't you forgotting a step in the described process ?
Did you gave a title longer that 64 character?
If you did, it is the wrongdoer.
The specs claims:
Maximum Length of Chart Title, Legend and X-Y Axis Labels 255
But AW 629 fails when such an item is more than 64 chars long.
I described the feature just after the vrsion's delivery but nobody complains about it here.

  • AppleWorks quits upon an attempt at data entry

Data entry in either an existing or new database or word processing document results in AppleWorks quitting following the 2nd keystroke (with the resultant Restart/Report window).
It appears this is limited to the WP and DB environments, although I seldom use the others, but in creating a new Spreadsheet or drawing/piant document, I'm allowed to create/edit without a failure.
I performed a complete uninstall, deleted the applicable 'recent', pref/plist files, etc. and reinstalled Appleworks 6.2.9 and the problem remained. In the WP or DB environment, new or existing document, following the 2nd keystroke, down goes AppleWorks.
Odd significance: This began immediately following a software update for Security Update 2006-007 and an iTunes update. I perused the forum and saw no other posts that appeared related. Anyone encountered, or heard. of these rather peculiar happenings?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This is almost certainly due to using a unicode keyboard layout. See my user tip, Since upgrading to Tiger AppleWorks quits when I type, for more information.
Also, any time AppleWorks crashes there is some corruption of its preferences. It's always a good idea to delete the preferences before restarting AppleWorks. There's another user tip on this - AppleWorks has stopped working correctly.

Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. The reports of the app unexpectedly closing each time, automatically went to Apple, but I am not sure what happens with them then. Does anyone know how to help me with this? We live in a very isolated region so rely on internet help. Thanks

I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps!

  • How do i complain about having no use of iphone whilst transferring data therefore to find out if eligable for compensation?

How do i complain about having no use of iphone whilst transferring data & waiting for updates and used a big chunk of my mobile intenet allowance as had it plugged into laptop all day!-therefore to find out if eligable for compensation?.

Nothing is ever as easy as it should be, though I've no idea what you were doing that took so long. Takes at most 5 mins to insert a SIM card, choose a language and activate the phone. At that point it is working. Another 5-10 mins should get you connected to your email account. You can add media & apps when you're not busy doing something else, and the phone can still make & receive calls while you're doing that!
The web is geared towards always on all you can eat broadband. If you run mobile broadband with a data cap or escalating charges then you need to manage the usage carefully, it is nobody else's problem.
Sorry if I've come over a trifle harsh on your first visit here, but these forums are for users to help each other resolve technical issues. However badly your first day setting things up went there is nothing to be done about it now, A little research, or a chat with a knowledgeable friend or colleague, or getting the phone set up at the store would have made it easy. Chalk it up to experience and move on.

  • Help! Appleworks quits unexpectedly

Everytime I try to open a word or works doc sent by a PC user, my appleworks quits unexpectedly. It used to work...? Any suggestions? I thought this was a PC problem...

    HI Jennifer,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
AppleWorks 6.2.9 does not include translators for MS Works documents.
The translators included for MS Word and for MS Excel were last revised over three years ago, and will not work with files from the newest versions of Word or Excel as MS has changed the format of these files in that time.
If the PC users are sending you files in older formats, the above paragraph may not apply. The first step to take when AppleWorks has stopped working correctly is to delete the AppleWorks preference files.
You'll find the files at Mac HD > yourname > Library > Preferences.
In that Preferences folder, look for and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
In the same preferences folder, look for the folder AppleWorks. You can delete this whole folder, or open it and delete the enclosed files. NOTE: If you have made changes to AppleWorks's Button Bar, don't delete the Button Bar preferences in this folder—it rarely causes problems, and if you delete it, you'll have to rdo the changes to the Button Bar.
There's more on this in Peggy's post (Linked above).
Although his appears to be a preferences issue, you might also want to clear your Recent Items folder, another maintenance task that helps AppleWorks keep running at full speed. You'll find your Recent Items folder at Mac HD > yourname > Documents > AppleWorks User Data > Starting Points > Recent Items. You can delete all of the items in this folder, or just the older ones. The items are aliases, and deleting them has no effeect on the files to which they point.

    Barry

  • How to get useful data from request?

    Hello.
I am looking for creating a management tool for a web site. All I want is that is there any ready to use API or package or open source project for retrieving users information? I just mean that is there any easy to use way in java to get useful data from a client (for example location, his or her system configuration and information ).
    Thanks.

If you dump all the data from request (see the javadoc, and especially the "header methods" ) you'll see the data you can get are quite simple.
    The only thing you can try to rely on are ;
    - the IP address from the sender (when reversed to DNS, you can sometime use the tld to locate the country it comes from. Yet, you'll get many .com name, so it's not that significant. it may also give you the IAP used). Note that if the user is using a proxy, it's the proxy IP that you'll collect
    - the User-Agent header : from this, you can guess the OS and the browser used
    - the Referer header : usefull to get where your user comes from (where they found a link to your site)
    - the Cookie header : if you're using a servlet container with session id stored in cookie, you should see the Cookie header appear on the second request to your site. That helps finding out wether your user accep cookie or not (from a server point).
Besides these, i don't think you can get any other useful data without asking your users on a form. Note that it's the client that decides to send Referer, User-Agent or Cookie headers. Those are not mandatory to the Http Protocole and some browser allow their user to fool their content (butmore than 90% of the widespread browsers don't)

  • You can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use the latest version of iphoto

you can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use latest version of iphoto. iphoto 11 is installed.

This is a message you got?
If so, as your post isn't clear, it may be a bogus message caused by a corrupt database.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Can't seem to draw a chart (line chart) using dates rather than numbers

I'm trying to draw a Line Chart but rather using numbers i want to use dates for example: Switzerland 23/06/2008 - 23/08/2008. Can't seem to get it to work? it seems to all go wrong when I change the cell format to 'date'
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
PS. I can do it easily in Excel

    Hello
From my point of view, it's not surprising.
In XL, a date is a number to which a date format is applied. So, it may be charted.
Same thing with the good old AppleWorks.
With Numbers, a date is NOT a number, it IS a specific class of data.
The consequence is that it can't be charted directly.
Happily, we may easily convert a date into a number.
In column B the formula is
    =A-$A$1
which calculates the numeric difference between stored dates and the date stored in A1.
So, we may chart the results.
I know that it's far from perfect but we have to live with the choices made by Numbers's designers.

  • Can't make or receive calls but can text and use data

I have had signal problems since I have got this phone which is an s4 my wife s3 mini gets better signal while at the same location. Tried everything customer service doesn't know and now I can't even make or receive a call. I can though send and receive text and use data but when I try to make a call it just says dialing then quits. Anyone trying to call says it will ring until voicemail but I never got the call. Can anyone help

        haynes88,
Yikes! I want you to be able to make phone calls on your cell phone! I would recommend what others have stated on here as well. Remove the sim card for a good 30 seconds while the phone is off. Then try to make the phone call again. Have you ever replaced the sim card on your device before? You can always get a new sim card for free at a corporate store location: http://bit.ly/3SdsA Please keep us posted.

  • How to increase internet access speed of OS X 10.5.8 whilst using telstra prepaid wirless broadband internet stick in Darwin, Australia

Is it possible  to increase internet access speed of Mackbook Pro OS X 10.5.8 whilst using telstra prepaid wirless broadband internet stick in Darwin, Australia?
    How can i do this?

Network Utility (in the Utilities folder) can tell you, in the Info pane, what speed you are actually connecting at.
Just set the interface to the one you are using (which may show up as en2 or something). Link Staus and speed are shown along with error counts.
If the data rate is very different from what you expected, you may have it manually set to a lower rate.
YouTube files are enormous -- that may be the best it can do.

  • Signing off of some apps so it doesn't use data...

I don't ever sign out of facebook and had downloaded pandora radio as well.  Do I have to completely sign out of the app when I close it out in order to not use data when not in wi fi area?  Yesterday when I turned off pandora radio, I just paused a song and went back to home screen and do the same with facebook..so my question is just that...am I wasting data by not completely signing off the app and just going back to home screen?

they "shouldn't" be using data if you aren't actually streaming (pandora). also, when you leave facebook, i don't believe it should be using data. however, if you have notifications enabled on facebook, then you should disable them as that constantly uses data. as jim mentioned, IF an app has an exit or quit option, then you should use it (if not, you can force close apps that use data). i don't believe you have to actually sign out though.

  • Using music app on my 4S uses data...why

I see others have had this experience, but don't think my problem is solved. My provider keeps sending me messages that I'm going over my data usage and they are charging me additionally for the month. I couldn't understand this, so I downloaded My Data Manager. When i rec'd the data overage message again, I was able to see that my Music app was the culprit. This doesn't make sense to me. I buy the largest iPhone so I can keep all my tunes on it, and don't have to also have an iPod. I do not use iTunes match or cloud services of any kind. When we take a road trip, i plug it into my car's sound system via USB.   I don't want to put it in Airplane Mode to use it, as I sometimes need to use the maps (which I know uses data).  Not sure what is happening here. Suggestions?

More on the subject above.  For a while, I just turned off my cellular data.  However, that doesn't make for a very smart phone.  I have it turned back on...used it yesterday to play 18 holes using GPS Golfshot.  That was fine...only used 2 mb of data.  When finished, I quit the program and turned off location services.  This morning, I'm checking my data manager, and it shows that today I have used 119 kb of mobile data.  But the phone hasn't left the house where I am always connected to the wireless.  What's using my data?  Here is a list of my apps that My Data Manager shows I have used today (remember, I'm wireless):
Messages 34%  (have not sent or received any messages today)
Mail 16% (have not checked my mail, and have manual turned on...no automatic download)
Apple Push Service 16% (what is this?  I don't have any push services activated)
Phone 8% (have not used my phone except to clear recent calls)
iTunes Store Downloads (haven't downloaded or updated anything today)
Media Download 7% (WHAT IS THIS? This may have been the culprit in my episode above...what is it                                    downloading?)
My Data Mgr 5% (this I used)
    Settings 3% (no use today)
    Music 2% (no use today)
    Safari 1% (no use today)
iCloud Sync Services 1% (should only happen over wireless, right?)
Maps 1% (no use today and location services are turned off)
just checked My Data Mgr after having my phone open to write the above: I've now used 601 kb of wi-fi and 129 kb of mobile data.  I clear out all running apps frequently.I've checked under Privacy and nothing is trying to locate me.
Can anyone help me understand my usage?
On the day I mentioned in my first post, I used 28 mbs of data...all I did was listen to my music through the car speakers (which works in airplane mode), checked google maps a couple of times (no more than 5 -10 total minutes), wrote 4 or 5 texts to other iPhones and had 3 or 4 phone calls.  What used 28 mbs of data?

This is the message I'm getting when I try to open iphoto. This happened after a member of the genius bar fixed the problem with the download of the update of the Mac OSX combined.
