Application Content behavior

Which scenario would be the most efficient disk space wise specifically on the content being distributed, but I welcome any further thoughts as well.
Scenario 1:
One application with 7 deployment types, each deployment type points to the same content but with different command line switches.
Scenario 2:
Seven separate applications with 1 deployment type each, the deployment type of each application would still point to the same content with the difference being the command line switches.
You can stop reading here the below is the background to why I have this question if interested.
Background:
We have a group of around 10 software programs that are used at seven different physical locations. Each location has its own infrastructure (DB Servers, application servers, etc) and the software needs the correct configuration to work correctly for that location.
The configuration is set using command line switches to the MSI installer or to the install EXE. I want to deploy the software to device collections for each site and software. If I was using packages I would use the package with separate programs deployed
to the device collections for install but I want to use applications to eventually take advantage of the Software Catalog.

I can determine the requirements based on AD Site Name on deployed computers in production. So I believe that piece is figured out and will work.
We image all our computers at one location so while there the AD Site Name will always be the same so I can't use that. We then ship them out with the applications installed. Our PC naming convention includes a three letter location identifier, so if I had
a requirement that queries WMI looking for that three letter site code during OSD would that work? Software installs happen after Setup Windows and ConfigMGr step.

How can i refresh/update the contents of a C#.NET GUI application.(contents of a GUI application)
I.e: i need to update the GUI form & its contents after every 5-seconds automatically.
(I have 2 GUI applications, each containing 5-buttons. When i click the button from GUI-form1 it should "automatically" display in the GUI-form2. At present it displays ; BUT, only when i minimize & restore again the GUI form.)
So, how can i automatically update the new state of the GUI form.
(just like reloading the GUI application after every 5-seconds)

Question: Do you think the response from the support staff is correct? I mean, surely, I can't be the only CF user on a shared box whose other users need to modify the date and time within their applications. Even if they do it at the application level for their domain, surely it wouldn't affect mine, would it? That was what was implied by the support people, but I have a feeling they are way off, or covering for some goof-up on their end. I struggled like hell yesterday trying to get this to work and I did not get very far at all.
I found an interesting tutorial here which does a comparison of time zones and, theoretically, this might do the trick. But if what the guy told me was nonsense then I won't bother with it. For the record, our calendar has been working fine for about a week now.

This means that that you, the developer of the service class must make sure all your methods are thread safe. ... Any state you keep in your service object will be shared across all invocations for the lifetime of the engine."

How can I achieve the same behavior with a JWS service developed under WebLogic. ...a singleton web service accessed by multiple clients that maintains a shared state for the lifetime of the WebLogic server.

Application content migration manually from EP 6.0 to EP 7.0 EHP1

Hi All,
We have EP 6.0 portal system running on windows 2003 server and oracle .We have another EP7.0 EHP1 portal system installed on AIX 6.1 and oracle. The present portal is connected to BW, CRM and ECC systems and
also lot of customization is done in NWDI. The customer is requesting for manual migration of Iviews, user, roles, customized applications etc. from EP6.0 to EP7.0 EHP1.
Is it possible to go ahead and do?
Any implication are there?
Please provide your valuable suggestions and feedback in this regards.

Will iTunes Backup; backup Application content?

I have an application that stores passwords. Will my passwords save in the application be backed-up to my computer through the iTunes backup?
Other examples:
-Your lists created in a toDo list program
-What level you on in a game
-Notes in the note application
-etc, etc

When restoring an iPhone with iTunes, the iPhone is completely erased and the current firmware version available is re-installed.
After the firmware is re-installed, you are prompted to restore the iPhone from the most recent backup (which is the default selection), or as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup.
This must be followed by a sync.

This is very painful situation .I was stuck on this till 2days and did goggling a lot.But didn't get the solution .I tried so many ways but no success .So finally I removed all the config and XML files from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web
Server Extensions\15\CONFIG and run the PSConfig wizard again.This time got success finally .really unexpected.

Error in accessing the sample application content from the OBIEE 11g

I installed OBIEE 11g + Oracle 11g database on one machine. Everything went smoothly with no issues.
I can connection to the database from SQLPLUS.
Then I followed instructions to deploy sample app. After everything is done, when I try to access the dashboards, reports etc from the OBIEE 11g home page , I get the error below.
I am stuc kand dont know how to proceed. I verified tnsnames.ora and everything seems good.
In the SampleAPp.RPD, I set DB_SID as "ORCL" and DB_HOST as my computer name (along with domain name). No idea how to proceed from here..
I really appreciate any help.

Yes, oracle had multiple instances. I tried copying the tnsnames.ora from my oracle home to the Oracle_BI1/network/admin directory as 11g apparetnly comes with a Oracle client as BIFACTs suggested in his/her reply. I put the same in the path variable
2) Try to ping the service_name tnsping service_name(SID) from command prompt
This works.
3) check whether you may have "white spaces" in tnsnames.ora file at starting of entry
No white spaces appeated
I still see the same issue! I logged in as developer credentials as mentioned the sample app documentation.
I get the same "cannot connect to database" error.
I once in a while see an issue with javahost not starting. Not sure what is the impact of javahsot not running and all the other managed processes running.

Are you sure this will work?
The item in the knowledge base states that the 2 phones need to be updated to latest iOS first.
The point with the 3G is that is no longer updating and stays in iOS 4, while the 4S will be in iOS 5.
So you need to charge a version 4 backup on a version 5 phone...

Changing Applications default content type for e.g fro Adobe Acrobat 7 to Adobe Acrobat Document

How can I change the default Applications content type, currently it point to Adobe Acrobat 7.0 the correct content type should be Adobe Acrobat Document.

See the [[managing file types]] article, in particular the section on changing download actions. You may need to select "Use other" and browse to the application if it is not listed as one of the default options.

How to remove multiple instances of a content type (jpeg) in Options/Applications?

Want to save a JPEG on email messages however am not receiving the "Open or Save File" option when clicking on download. When checking the Options/Applications/Content Type list, JPEG Image appears twice and the Action for one of those cannot be changed. Thought removing one of these Content Types might resolved the problem, however it cannot be removed, at least without further instructions for doing such.

A couple of days ago after seemingly working fine the day before Firefox suddenly decided to stop working. I seem to recall updating both my Adobe Flash and my Java on that day, and I'm also not 100% sure that I didn't change my Overclock settings too (but I think I did that and Firefox was still working)
Basically if I "start" Firefox from any location be it shortcut, direct executable or otherwise the application does not "run" I get the process but that is all. I have tried renaming to various combinations but still nothing appears to have any effect. Using the -profilemanager suffix in my shortcut / startmenu search and creating and using a new Profile has no effect either as does deletion, and Firefox Safe Mode shows the settings window but after choosing to open in safe mode nothing happens and I am left with the Firefox process hanging there doing nothing. I have tried multiple compatibility and administrator run settings but no effect.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled. Done full cleans deleting everything to do with Firefox and its Profiles. Uninstalled Flash and Java, and then Reinstalling FF. I have scoured the registy deleting anything obviously connected to Firefox, Mozilla and even Java to no effect (I have not cleaned out for Flash due to having multiple Adobe apps which I would prefer not to screw up.) I have downgraded from 3.6.3 to 3.6.2 and as far as 3.5.1 and then doing upgrade to the new 3.6.4. All with the help of my CCleaner to tie off any loose ends, but nothing seems to work. Can't restore pc to earlier date as I only remembered about it after I had already made too many changes.
The only time I can manage to run Firefox properly at all is when I am in Windows Safe Mode, I am sick of Google Chrome as it feels really slow and I also dislike Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer. I really do not know what else to do and would really appreciate some help so that I may use the only good browser that I have found again.

This Event:
1. Firefox will immediately close after opening 2 blank (Untitled) tabs and /or 2 (Untitled) windows.
2. Firefox will not open a 2nd time.
3. Firefox will only open in Safe-mode (.exe))
4. Firefox excruciating slow Start-Up
5. Firefox web –surfing unbearably slow
6. Firefox unpleasant web page hanging behavior
7. Firefox awful flash content behavior / Obnoxious Adobe Flash Player has always been and will always be crap.
The Cause:
Session Manager = Corruption …!!!
o This issue was created by faulty and inconsistent and flawed M$ Win 7 legacy software support for Hardware.
 The Keyboard / Hardware would generate a separate session manager event with the action/Web key.
 Firefox and/or TabMixPlus session manger were corrupted in the event process.
The Source:
A: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate32-US Version = substandard legacy device handling :
B: Hardware/Keyboard (shortcut) Customization Software Conflicts causing Corruptions of Firefox-Session Manger.
The Fix..!!!
I. Remove from Add and Remove Programs (Win7) Hardware/Keyboard Software “only”. ..Special note: Win 7 Updated- Hardware/Keyboard Device driver does not have to be removed...!!
II. Clean and remove all Instances of Keyboard software.
a. The “Best-est and Safest” Registry Cleaner is jv16 2010 Power Tools.
b. Restart Computer.
III. “If” available install an older version of your “Hardware/keyboard software” compatible with Win 7 that will allow some customization of Hardware/Keyboard-keys.
Confirm fix by:
1. Restart Firefox from Hardware/Keyboard key (shortcut).
2. Clean-up Internet crap and corrupted session managers...
3. Test Launch keyboard shortcut of Firefox.exe [“after” a clean-up of all internet crap]…
4. Test launch keyboard shortcut again / use Firefox extensively or normal use for any recurring bad web behavior.
If Corruption events occur again:
i. Use different and / or Older Keyboard “software” with win 7.
ii. Or you will have to wait for a Win 7 Hardware/Keyboard software update for keyboard installed.
Note:
“Do not use the hardware or keyboard shortcut-key for Web Browsing… Or else: // This Event (See Above): …Will Continue..!!!..”
And it is “not” a Firefox 3.6.8 issue.
So, look elsewhere.
Look @ the main culprits:
a. Substandard legacy device handling: Micro$oft Windows Operating System in combination / with.
b. Customization Software for your keyboard or other hardware that generates web functions and web sessions. / Hardware driver may not be the problem.

Application used in a TS is installing itself

Hi guys,
if some Kind of strange behavior where I´am not 100% sure what is causing this... So here is the Situation: I´ve created an application "Nvidia Drivers" with 4 deployments types. Each DT uses a global condition as requirement to decide, based on
the Video controller, which DT is used. The application is deployed as available AND I´ve also added the same application to a task sequence. This TS is still the one which was used to install these and most of all our clients. The TS is also deployed as available
to these Clients (PXE and media only). After all that stuff we have seen some unexpected installations in the field, even after removing the deployment. So what is going on here? Is there some sort of "loopback" where the clients geht the application
from the TS where they once installed from? I´ve found some blog and other forum posts

with similar issues, but always related do supersedence. I don´t have supersedence used here. Can anybody confirm or refute my speculation. I can provide log files shots in about ~8 hours since it is 11pm for me now, but you guys sure have some great ideas
until I´am back in the Office ;)

Have a look at AppDiscovery and AppEnforce.log to see what's really happening.
I'm not surprised though. Even though the TS is only available to media and PXE, the applications used in the TS will be evaluated by the clients. (I know a few that don't use applications in OS task sequences for the same reason. Including
myself. The behavior is just weird.)
