Application hangs during accessing transactional database.

Hi! Here is minimazed test which creates a database with secondary index, fills it with some records and then starts two threads. One thread adds records, another thread deletes records. The problem is that threads hangs with the following backtraces:

Looks like some problems with locking, because if I set_lk_detect(DB_LOCK_DEFAULT) some methods fails with DB_LOCK_DEADLOCK, but i do not understand where is raise condition, because both threads calls just a single operations. Can anybody explain the problem?

Hi,
Thank you for you answer, but I still not happywith
it.
I attentively read the documents you providedbefore
posted the message on the forum. Ok. Let me explain again.
I could enclose these calls in each owntransaction
(and I tried it, but had the same result) but itdoes
not make a sence if DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag wasspecified
for the Db::open()Using transaction does not necessarily eliminate the
chance of deadlock. Practically any application that
uses locking may deadlock. Can you post here the
example in which you are trying it transactionally?
And maybe I will try to correct it.The example is in the my first message. It would be nice if you could suggest a good solution to workaround the deadlock.
There is only ONE OPERATION from the BerkeleyDBAPI
point of view in each thread under the transaction
and I would expect that the one single Db::put()or
Db::del() can not cause the deadlock. Why it
happens?Because "With the exception of the Queue access
method, the Berkeley DB access methods do page-level
locking." (Locking granularity:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkele
y-db/db/ref/lock/page.html)
The only solution I see now is use
DbEnv::set_lk_detect() and handle the
DB_LOCK_DEADLOCK error code on each DB operationand
retry the operation on the deadlock, but it is the
last thing I would like to use.
The conclusion:
- why single API call of Db::put() or Db::del()under
transaction made in the same time cause adeadlock?
Because both of them will require write locks on the
same page.
"The first component of the infrastructure, deadlock
detection, is not so much a requirement specific to
transaction-protected applications, but instead is
necessary for almost all applications in which more
than a single thread of control will be accessing the
database at one time. Even when Berkeley DB
automatically handles database locking, it is
normally possible for deadlock to occur. Because the
underlying database access methods may update
multiple pages during a single Berkeley DB API call,
deadlock is possible even when threads of control are
making only single update calls into the database."
(Deadlock detection:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkele
y-db/db/ref/transapp/deadlock.html)
Please let me know if this time I was clear enough.

    Hello,
    There is compiled java application.

    It was detected that in the beggining a new Frame should be created. Then one java library invokes native method. During invoking of the native method application hangs.

    It seems that the problem is related to graphics. Judging by class name "X11GraphicsDevice" it is related to X server. May be some server settings?

  • Client-Side Java Application accessing a database

    Hello Sun Forums,
    I'm developing a Java based client application which accesses a MySQL database server via JDBC.
    My question is: How can I store the password for accessing the database in a secure way on the client? I'm looking for something like the Oracle wallet. I don't know if there is a solution to this problem. Any user could do reverse engineering and extract the password out of the source code. One way hash algorithms don't work either. Any help concerning this topic is highly appreciated.
    Thanks, Yves

What you can do is to not make the DB visible by the end user and query only through request to a webserver. If you wish to adhoc type of queries, you can have a sql validation request, if your sql server supports that.
    If you cannot use a webserver interface, then throw the idea out about saving the client password, the user is just going to have to enter their password. If you are worried about entering the password and cannot use a webserver, then you don't have a project.
    Have the client call on the phone and request an extract, then send it to them on a DVD. But that can be intercepted in the mail. Even if it's encrypted, they have your data and eventually they will decrypt it.
    BTW: security is only an illusion that lets us sleep at nights, in reality, it is nothing more than a hinderance: if someone really wants to access your web connected resource, then they are going to eventually find a way to do it.

  • Trouble accessing a database in a deployed application

    I am having difficulty accessing a database on a deployed application.  I am using LV2009, and Windows XP.    I am interfacing with the database via ODBC.  The database is located in the "Shared Documents" folder.  I have no problem accessing the database when logged in as the administrator, but when i use the production login I cannot get to it (I can see it in explorer).  I have given the production login administrative privileges and still cannot access it.  I can save a notepad file to that folder when using the production login.  What do I not have set properly in the database setup?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry I got the error code mixed up!
    // MessageId: DB_E_CANCELED
    // MessageText:
    //  Operation was canceled.
    #define DB_E_CANCELED                    ((HRESULT)0x80040E4EL)
    This would indicate that there was some operation like a login dialog or similar that was canceled. It could be that you have assigned a username and passowrd in Access to the database file. In that case you do need to specify the correct username and password in the DSN connection settings otherwise the ADO/ODBC driver wants to prompt you with a dialog for this information, but this has to be enabled with the "prompt? (f)" input to the DB Open Connection method. If that parameter is false, all the ADO library can do is to abort the connection.

  • Hyperion Application manager closes when a database outline is accessed.

    All,
    I use Essbase 6.5.3 version. When I try to access a database outline through application manager, the application manager closes. It freezes for few seconds before getting closed. kindly let me know why this happens and also help me with a solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vicky

    Hello -
    I have seen this problem happen in the outlines which are huge as it seems that the client system from where you are opening the outline doesn't seem to have enough memmory to allocate to app manager.
    You may want to try opening the outline in the "view" mode only to see if that does the trick.
    As Glen already asked - Is this only for one outline or all the other outlines as well? Has it ever worked before for that outline?
    You may also want to try to open the outline and leave it for sometime. Let this be the only program using the system resources, close all others.

  • How to access MDB database from JSP Web Application?

    hi
    i am using tomact and developing appplication in which i have to insert data into MDB database and read/Update/Delete Data in MDB DataBase.
    could any help in this issue?
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hi,
    For accessing MDB database, you must have a jdbc:odbc driver, u can get it from sun site.
    just put it into the lib folder of web server.
    or
    just follow the following link:

  • C application hangs intermittently on invoking Closehandle() function in Win 7 64bit OS

    Hi,
    I have a application which basically deals with network operations like begin session, send/receive etc. The application also has mutex create, request and close. Before terminating the transaction between the client and server, there is a call to Closehandle()
    while clears that mutex that was created during initialization. (Mutex is released prior to close). During closing the mutex, in Windows 7 64 bit OS, the application goes to hung state intermittently. The same application used work without any issues in Win
    XP.
    PS: The C application is written in Visual Studio 6.0
    Hence requesting for any thoughts to resolve this problem!!
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
    When application hangs, it needs to be restarted. Yes, this problems happens sometimes.
    With respect to the anti-virus and firewalls, I had tried turned off firewalls and anti-virus but did not help!
    This application basically acts as a network layer which is the bridge between client and server.
    Below is the code snippet from the app which shows about mutex creation, request and close. I had configured ADPlus to the application to check on which line of the code the hang occurs and from that dump file could notice that the cause for the hang is
    Closehandle() function.
    Code snippet -
    typedef unsigned long OSLMUTEXSEM;
    extern OSLMUTEXSEM gsemCrypt;
    void PASInitialize() {
    char *            pMutexSemName;
    DWORD     NTRC;
    pMutexSemName = gsemCrypt;
    oslRc = MutexSemCreate((char*)NULL,&gsemCrypt));   //Mutex creation by calling CreateMutex() function
    oslRc = MutexSemRequest( gsemCrypt, SEM_WAIT_FOREEVER); //Request the semaphore by calling WaitForSingleObject() function -infinite //timeout
    // some operation
    oslRC = MutexSemRelease( gsemCrypt ));  // release the mutex by calling ReleaseMutex function
    void PASTerminate(){
    oslRC = MutexSemClose(gsemCrypt); //calling Closehandle()function to close the mutex
    WSACleanup();
    From the dump files, it was noticed that the hang happens at the call MutexSemClose(..) function which in turn calls windows function Closehandle().

    I suspect that the database environment believes that another process has the database open for writing. This cannot be the case, however, as all applications that access the database do so via an interface library I wrote that registers a termination function via the atexit() system-call to ensure that both the DB and DB_ENV handles are properly closed -- and all previously-executed applications terminated normally.
    The interface library opens the database like this (apparently, this forum doesn't support indentation, sorry):
    int status;
    Backend* backend = (Backend*)malloc(sizeof(Backend));
    if (NULL == backend) {
    else {
    DB_ENV* env;
    if (status = db_env_create(&env, 0)) {
    else {
    if (status = env->open(env, path,
    DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_CDB | DB_INIT_MPOOL, 0)) {
    else {
    DB* db;
    if (status = db_create(&db, env, 0)) {
    else {
    if (status = db->open(db, NULL, DB_FILENAME, NULL,
    DB_BTREE, forWriting ? DB_CREATE : DB_RDONLY, 0)) {
    else {
    backend->db = db;
    } /* "db" opened */
    if (status)
    db->close(db, 0);
    } /* "db" allocated */
    if (status) {
    env->close(env, 0);
    env = NULL;
    } /* "env" opened */
    if (status && NULL != env)
    env->close(env, 0);
    } /* "env" allocated */
    if (status)
    free(backend);
    } /* "backend" allocated */
    This code encounters no errors.
    The interface library also registers the following code to be executed when any process that uses the interface library exits:
    if (NULL != backend) {
    DB* db = backend->db;
    DB_ENV* env = db->get_env(db);
    if (db->close(db, 0)) {
    else {
    if (env->close(env, 0)) {
    else {
    /* database properly closed */
    As I indicated, all previously-executed processes that use the interface library terminated normally.
    I'm using version 4.8.24.NC of Berkeley DB on the following platform:
    $ uname -a
    Linux gilda.unidata.ucar.edu 2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Dec 10 10:36:29 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Any ideas?

    Bogdan,
    That can't be it. I'm using a structured programming style in which the successful initialization of a cursor is ultimately followed by a closing of the cursor. There's only one place where the code does this and it's obvious that the cursor gets released.
    I've also read the CDB section.

  • ST03N shows users accessing transactions even when not logged in

    Hello all...
    We are trying to determine how many times a user executed a transaction during a specific period, and are using ST03N to do this.
    We get the information fine, but it shows non-system users as having accessed transactions on days they are not logged in or it shows excessive use of a transaction (i.e 8000 times in a 20 day period).
    We have confirmed that no batch jobs or system jobs are running or have run under their ID's.  Additionally, it shows use of transactions which the users are not authorized to use.
    Please help as we are trying to explain this for SOX purposes.
    Cheers all!
    Joe Johnson

    Thanks for the replies...
    We can use AL08, but it doesn't show any user activity for the specific users that keep popping up in ST03N.
    RFC calls seem to be closest to explaining this, but how can one track the calls made by a user?  Additionally, if the ID is not authorized to perform a transaction shouldn't the RFC call fail?

  • Application hanging after commit issued, how to tell why?

    Hi All,
    We're using adf bc, jsp's and jdev 10.1.2.
    The scenario is this.. I have 2 views based on the same entity(called Milk). One view is the control view Milk i.e. straightforward select, no where clause. The other one is based on a join with another entity (Area), which uses where clause parameters to output a row of Milk for every entry on the Area entity. So basically for every area there is, a milk row will be output even if that row does not exist on the milk table.
    So my problem was when the user edited and saved a row which didn't actually exist on the database, the program would hang. Editing of rows that do exist pose no problem at all. So then I thought maybe I should create these rows first so that they would physically exist on the database before the edit. Still to no avail..
    If it's just one row created or many rows, once the commit is issued, the application hangs. I've debugged it and nothing happens once it executes the commit line, there are no error messages, it just never progresses past this line.
    I've tested with the App Module tester and I can create rows here fine. Obvisouly something is wrong or it wouldn't be happening. How can I tell why it's hanging? Or can anyone suggest what I can do. It is extremely crucial that I fix this soon so I would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Liz.

    Maybe you should look into
    /var/log/messages.log
    /var/log/daemon.log
    /var/log/kernel.log
    /var/log/Xorg.0.log will be overridden, afaik.

  • Error while accessing transaction codes through URL's in IFrame UI element

    Hi Experts,
    I have created Transaction iviews ck91N, ck11N, ck24 in SAP NW CE7.2. I am accessing these Transaction iviews through URL's in webdynpro java application. I am using IFrame UI element in a Roadmap UI for each transaction code.
    when i access step1 i.e ck91N in a IFrame it is working fine then i click button for step2, it displays the following error.
    Error while processing your request!
    What has happened?
    The call of URL http://yyyyyyyy:8001/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui has been terminated due to an error.

    Then next step3 it is working fine. If i change Road Map steps Ck11N,ck91N,ck24 in this order then first one is working fine second one gives error and third one is working fine again. It is working alternatively. I don't understand why this is happening? when i use LinkToURL for these 3 URL's then they are working fine. LinkTOURL opens in new browser(window) and in Roadmap i am accessing 3 URL's in same browser(window).

    I am facing the same issue when I use Windows 7 OS. Did you resolve this issue?

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
    Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
    I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
    Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
    same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
    The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
    the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
    Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.
    Chee Wee.

    Hello,
    After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.
