Application hanging after commit issued, how to tell why?

Hi All,
We're using adf bc, jsp's and jdev 10.1.2.
The scenario is this.. I have 2 views based on the same entity(called Milk). One view is the control view Milk i.e. straightforward select, no where clause. The other one is based on a join with another entity (Area), which uses where clause parameters to output a row of Milk for every entry on the Area entity. So basically for every area there is, a milk row will be output even if that row does not exist on the milk table.
So my problem was when the user edited and saved a row which didn't actually exist on the database, the program would hang. Editing of rows that do exist pose no problem at all. So then I thought maybe I should create these rows first so that they would physically exist on the database before the edit. Still to no avail..
If it's just one row created or many rows, once the commit is issued, the application hangs. I've debugged it and nothing happens once it executes the commit line, there are no error messages, it just never progresses past this line.
I've tested with the App Module tester and I can create rows here fine. Obvisouly something is wrong or it wouldn't be happening. How can I tell why it's hanging? Or can anyone suggest what I can do. It is extremely crucial that I fix this soon so I would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Maybe you should look into
/var/log/messages.log
/var/log/daemon.log
/var/log/kernel.log
/var/log/Xorg.0.log will be overridden, afaik.

I have used small timeout and reading data in while loop continously . If my application is steady for sometime it gets hangs and afterwards it doesnt receive any data again.
Then I need to restart my application again to make it work.
I am attaching VI. Let me know any issue.
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.
I need my difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy my success.

What do you mean, "not fixed?" If there is no termination character, no start/stop character(s) or even a consistent data length, then how can you really be sure when the data starts and stops?
I probably misunderstood you though. Assuming the last case is not ture - there is a certain length to the data - then you should use the bytes at port, like in the otherwise disastrous serial port read example. In this case, it's NOT disastrous. You have to make sure that you read all the data that came through. Right now you have no idea how much data you just read. Also, if this is streaming data, you might want to break it out into a producer/consumer design pattern.
Not fixed means order is not fixed, data from any com port can come anytime. lenght is fixed, one com port have 14 byte and other 8 byte fixed..
Reading data is not an issue for me as it works nice but I have a query that why my application hangs after sometime and stops reading data from COM PORT.
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.

ADF application hangs after $$added root$$ message in the logs

Hi ADF Gurus,
We have an ADF application which freezes after we create a row in a particular VO,
When debugged in Jdev, the application seems to hang when either of the below log messages appear. Does anybody know what these messages mean? Just hoping for some hint as to where the problem might lie. The table where the new row is added has about 150,000 records in it

My application hangs after 10 hours in the serialport read sub-vi. Why?

My application is programmed under LabView 5.1.1 on a windows 2000 platform.
I use a MOXA RS232 extending module with a B&B RS485- converter.
After 10 hours trouble-free working, the application, using semaphores, hangs in the serialport read sub-vi.
In the same constelation without RS485-converter, once the application hanged up in the serialport write sub-vi. After Restarting LabView I was still not able to access the serial port. So I had to restart the PC.

I am not sure, but it looks for me as some buffer overflow error.
Like you read or write something before it is ready.
Try to play with the lines like DTR and so on.

My Muse Application disappeared after installing update, how do I get it back?

I did some updates via Adobe Application Manager while installing a XI pro and when it was complete, I went to open Muse and it was gone... how do I get it back? When I go to download it again it takes me to the Adobe Application Manager where it lists 17 apps, Muse is one of them that says "installed" but it is not anywhere on my computer. I'm on a iMac with 10.8.2. Thanks, Stacey

I had a similar issue that I think was caused because I still had the Beta of Muse "installed" on my iMac running 10.8.2 and not the current live version of Muse.
I used the Adobe Application manager to install Muse and other apps after I joined Creative Cloud in September. It completed and said I had Muse installed, but in reality I believe it was still only the Beta. I realized all of this this Sunday Oct 30, 2012. I scoured the machine to make sure only the Beta was on my machine and that was correct. Until I deleted the Beta and restarted I could not get the "installed" status to be corrected. However, once it was corrected I could not get the Adobe Application "installer" for Muse to become active. Going to Adobe.com to get the Muse installer yielded a result where I could not get the official installer to work while I was logged in. Logging out, I was able to download a trial installer but it took 3 tries before it installed, citing a broken installer. Since that point however, Muse has worked just fine and it synced up with my Creative Cloud account.

How to tell why my Z77A-G45 isn't booting?

Memory: 2 x Corsair 4GB XMS3 DDR3-PC1600 CMXBG3N2A1600C9 (new)
Graphics card: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II (new, currently disconnected)
SSD: Crucial M4 512GB (new, currently disconnected)

Once everything is all connected up, installed in the case, etc etc, upon power up, the fans all spin up, HDDs initialize etc. Then after 10 seconds or so the system powers down again, with the screen (whether on the external or internal graphics) never having been active. There are no beeps from the PC speaker whatsoever, nor do there seem to be any indicator lights as I've had on previous MSI motherboards. The manual is completely absent of any troubleshooting section. So my main question is, is there any way to tell what stage the startup is failing on? Other threads on this forum (here and here) suggest that the problem is due to lack of processor support. As the motherboard was sold as Ivy Bridge ready, I'd like soe way of confirming this as most likely cause before paying for some fix.

Yes, the mainboard is Ivy ready, but the 'as shipped' UEFI/BIOS may not be the latest one that supports the CPU intended for installation. That has been a problem over several generations of platforms. In the past, there were green stickers with the BIOS version printed on the chips, but now, a lot of them are black chips with red dots on them, so no visual way to tell what BIOS is actually installed on the mainboard.
Only speculation, but it is very possible the UEFI/BIOS version on the mainboard does not support the CPU you have.

OCFJ Hanging after 5-7 days

I am running OC4J 1.0.2.2 on a windows 2000 server.
I am using it as my JSP engine as well. For some reason the application hangs after 5-7 days of being used. In order to get up again I have to restart it.
I am running it as a service and using ConnectionPooling.
Any ideas as to why this may be happening and how to fix it?

My platform is SUN Solaris 7, so what I am about to say may not
be relevant for your Windows platform, but I think it is and that's
why I'll say it.
I think in the release notes it recommends using the JDK that comes
with 9iAS, which (IIRC) is 1.2.2
Does your application involve EJB's? There is an issue with OC4J
keeping bean instances in memory permanently, which can eventually
cause a memory leak.
Unless you can give me more details, there's nothing else I can
suggest right now.

Mapviewer application hangs on WebLogic

The MapViewer 11g application hangs after some time and does not respond to any request. MapViewer is running on a separate domain. The MapViewer is very lacklustre in performance. Please suggest what could be done. It takes the CPU of the server to 99%

I would say there is no ideal number of mappers. Increasing the number of mappers may be good for several concurrent requests, but at some point too may mappers may overload the server and the result may not be good. Each mapper is used to generate a map response for a request. And each map depends on the spatial data that is being rendered which may be more complex than others. So it is kind of playing a bit to find the "ideal" number of mappers.
Another thing that you can do, is to evaluate the requests to see if they are taking long to be processed (set log level to finest and look the request log). There may be situations where too many features are being returned for a theme. In these cases the scale may not be optimized and can be tuned.

Depending on how you restored your data, Time Machine may not recognize your previous backups as belonging to the same machine. It will then delete as many snapshots as necessary to make room for a full backup of all files. Once the snapshots are deleted, they can't be recovered.
Another time, when you erase the boot volume, restore from Time Machine in Setup Assistant so that your backup history will be preserved.
As this experience shows, you need more than one backup to be safe. I suggest you start a new backup set on another, larger, external drive.

It is supposed to run from time to time on my server checking if a programme is hanging and if so quitting it and restarting it.
So does anybody know how one can get a programme to hang or crash? Did several experiments with Text Edit, but could not get it to crash. Interesting question though, as we are mostly concerned about crashes not happening.

After Effects CS6 and Premiere Pro CS6 Long Startup and Application Hang

Problem:
After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS6 are very slow to start all of a sudden. Around 5 minutes to get to/by the intro dialogue box. For AE, the majority of the time is spent on the "initializing user interface." Then, if I can make a comp, and even a layer inside that comp, it will "Hang" if I attempt to open AE's General preferences for example (no preferences window ever comes up). This "hang" is what the Event Viewer in windows calls it, with the faulting module being afterfx.exe. Premiere is not much different. It makes it to the new project window fast, but after setting project parameters and creating the first sequence, I can't get into the preferences either and the application hangs. It is important to note that if I have another application open, like Chrome or Firefox for example at the time the application hangs, they will freeze as well. As soon as I kill the Afterfx.exe process, they come back to life.
I have read nearly all threads on the subject, and am struggling to find a solution:
Deleted preferences folder under my username's appdata.
Turned off Firewall (network traffic from dynamiclink, qtserver, etc was allowed, but what the hay)
ran windows system file checker/malwarebytes/rkill/rootkit detection.
checked for windows compatibility checkboxes under the file.
Uninstalled Wacom Tablet drivers
Disabled Aero
Started with ctrl-alt-shift to delete pref.
uninstalled video driver and replaced with one 6 months ago.
uninstalled, reinstalled, and tested various quicktime versions back to version 7.69
moved plugins folder
moved opengl's plugin out of the folder temporarily
Disabled all 3rd party codecs (xvid was the only one installed and for months)
reinitialized default directshow filters
checked for adobe font list (none found) and removed any fonts from 1 month ago to present.
used msconfig to selective startup without other applications/services running.
Uninstalled all adobe products, and reinstalled.
I performed all of these in a systematic manner, trying to solve the problem. None have fixed the problem.
So it doesn't seem to be a network issue, a codec issue, a plugin issue, a driver issue, font issue, or conflicting application. Any thoughts?

I used msconfig, first disabling startup items, -same result.
Enabled all startup items, disabled all non-microsoft services - AE worked!
I re-enabled each service in turn until AE crashed.
The fault was related to an item for a video streaming device I have in my house. It was Monsoon-multimedia's Vulkano Service. Sometimes under the old name of Hava, this is an app that acts like a sling-box to send my Cable TV to my screen. It does load a couple of virtual devices in device manager, and uses a proprietary codec.
I uninstalled the vulkano streamer application and rebooted the external Vulkano device. I reinstalled the Vulkano and verified it connected to the device and could stream. Once it did, I tried AE again and IT WORKED!
I wonder if simply rebooting the Vulkano would have fixed it. Its like opening the garage door to turn on the refridgerator.

In principle, I agree re: the manufacturer's warranty. However, I am pretty upset that this is now my second iPod to develop a critical fault within weeks of the warranty expiring, and frankly, it is not unreasonable to expect a state-of-the-art $500 electronic device to last well beyond one year of life.
I agree talking to Apple is not likely to do me any good (the clue is in how impossible they make it to talk to them in the first place) - but that is not necessarily OK. I expect I will have to pay money to get the battery replaced - again, not OK (full stop - but especially given the cost of the device and the money I have spent with Apple). Yes, the batteries have a limited lifespan, but it should last longer than this (and surely, I should notice a gradual decline in its functionality, not an instant stop).
I will try Deggie's suggestion (see my reply post), but probably won't hold my breath (think I have already done this). I probably will have to get the new battery - and probably under my own steam. It is a principle at stake and I feel I should be able to let Apple know how I'm feeling - and am frustrated that they make this virtually impossible. It sends the very clear message that they are not interested in listening to their customers.

We have Linux server with Oracle Application 10g and Oracle 11g database.
We have developed an application with JSP/Servlet. We are facing an wired issue with this application.
When we start using system with 4-3 users at a time, after few mins or few hours, that application slow down or hang.
and then after we are not even able to get a simple HTML page. It also affect the other applications as well, which are deployed on that server.
We have tried our best but not able to find what the exact problem is. Even we have used visualVM and Jconsole to monitor the application.
When application hang, we had found that there were 6,959 Loaded Classes, 200MB heap size, CPU usage 20%.
We have set the heap size to 2GB.
Another thing is, some procedures take 20sec to 2min to execute. But does this affect the application such a way that it goes hang?
Please help to found out the problem.
