Apply Custom theme to Web Dynpro Java CE 7.11

Hi,
I want to apply a custom theme created with the theme editor to my WDJ application. The creation of my custom theme seems to be no problem.
But I did not find any documentation how to apply this theme to my WDJ app.
How to deploy this theme (zip-File) to my AS Java (CE 7.11) ?
How to set this theme as used theme for my WDJ app only?
How to set this theme to be used by my app running stand-alone and running in portal?
Thanks ahead,
Bernd

Bernd,
You can deploy your theme by going to
System Administration->Portal Display->Theme Archive, on the screen under the Import Theme section, browse the theme and import.
In order to apply the theme to your WD application, you can get the info. here:
https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/docs/DOC-100896
also note that, by default WD application will take the portal theme unless you configure to use a specific theme as described in the above link.
For applying the portal themes, you have to create a framework page and a new desktop.Add that framework page and the theme to the desktop and then create a desktop rule which gives the look and feel of that desktop(theme and the framework page) who satisfy the condition in the rule.

Ajay

  • How to call custom themes for Web Dynpro ABAP Application?

    Hi,
    I need to change the appearance of Web Dynpro ABAP application. So far I followed below steps,
    1.     Created theme folder u2018testngou2019 (SE80->MIME Repositoty -> SAP->PUBLIC->BC->UR->nw5->themes -> u2018testngou2019 ).
    2.     used program BSP_UPDATE_MIMEREPOS to dowmloaod content of  u2018sap_tradeshowu2019 (SE80->MIME Repositoty -> SAP->PUBLIC->BC->UR->nw5->themes -> sap_tradeshowu2019) to desktop.
    3.     Modified the themes using Eclipse Theme Editor.
    4.     used program BSP_UPDATE_MIMEREPOS to upload modified themes to MIME repository u2018testngou2019  (SE80->MIME Repositoty -> SAP->PUBLIC->BC->UR->nw5->themes ->  u2018testngou2019) .
    My current URL is like http://server.name:XXXX/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/hrrcf_a_startpage_int_cand?sap-client=XXX.
    Now I want to know how custom themes called for Web Dynpro ABAP Application.
    Is my approach correct?
    ...Naddy

    Hi Naddy,
    What you used is one way and even I failed when tried that method,
    Instead go to SE38 - WD_THEMES - and you need to upload the zip file and you need to follow a folder structure.
    it is case sensitive, atleast the zip file.
    Make a zip file by name "Project.zip" -
    Create a Folder Project and have the below folder structure,
    1  data - all the properties files and also the designinfo file, below is the code
    2  themes - (to get all the files download the theme from portal and you will have all the folders)
       2.1  ur
         2.1.1 name of the theme
           2.1.1.1 common
           2.1.1.2 csf
           2.1.1.3  r
           2.1.1.4  ur - all the css files (would be good if you can get the files from the server.)
           2.1.1.5   WSRP
    3  war - empty folder
    *.designinfo
    isVisible=true
    version=7.0.14.1.0
    isDefault=false
    isSapDesign=false
    designName=**** name of the theme
    Once done create a zip file and click on Start Import and give the path and will ask for transport request, it will take a while to upload once done as mentioned in the use the parameter sap-ep-themeroot="path"
    This will resolve the issue.
    Cheers-

    Hi,
    Can you please suggest me how to create a user in UME Database using web dynpro java custom application.
    My Requirement is user can register his/her user id in SAP Portal 7.3 UME database.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Amit,
    Generated Documentation (Untitled)
    This is what you're looking for, there's no real cook-book -- though Amey mentioned there might be some material on SDN, perhaps some tutorials.
    You should be looking into com.sap.security.api.IUserFactory, methods newUser(String) which gives you and IUserMaint and commitUser(IUserMaint, IUserAccount) -- IUserAccount can be obtained using com.sap.security.api.IUserAccountFactory, method newUserAccount(String)
    Hope it helps,

  • Maintaining custom Web Dynpro Java applications

    We are a relatively new Web Dynpro Java shop, and I hope to propose a standard for code modification documentation to my organization. I have a few questions for WDJ maintenance developers:
    When documenting creation and modification activities, what is the benefit of using the javadoc comment convention?
    In the controller implementation tab, when I use the Source --> Add JavaDoc Comment tool, the comment block is always inserted into the
    //@@begin imports
    tag. Is the automatically generated tag
    //@@begin documentation
    in the controller implementation tab useful? Should summary information and ongoing modification comments for the controller be stored here?
    Does anyone require full javadoc comments on every new method? @param, @return, @exception?
    Do the NWDS/Eclipse Tasks and/or Bookmarks provide any real value? I have observed that bookmarks are useless for flagging code changes because they are dropped whenever edits are saved. I'd like to leverage Tasks, are there any examples of using them successfully that can be shared with me?

    The Java source in Web Dynpro is generated from the meta-data. Manual changes must be done exclusively inside the so-called user coding areas marked by comments //@@begin ID ... //@@end. That has the consequence that many of the Eclipse source code and refactoring functionality does not work anymore resp. is overwritten by the code generation step. Please be careful.

    I don't think this can be done since WDJ apps can also run standalone (not in a portal)

  • Logical Destinations in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi!
    Is it possible to access logical HTTP destinations maintained in SAP NetWeaver Administrator via Configuration Management -> Security ->Destinations in Web Dynpro Java source-code.
    I would like to use such a destination to configure an URL target for a IWDFrame UI element.
    Thank you very much in advance!
    Regards,
    Thomas

    I found out that there is a [Destination Service API|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711/helpdata/en/8b/8e7dac1e661d44bf2a676fd3948cc6/content.htm] for this purpose. Unfortunatly I am still not able to provide the required components security.class and tc/sec/destinations/interface to the web dynpro component. Maintaining them via Project Properties -> Web Dynpro is not allowed any more, and I couldn't find them in the DC perspective to add them as DC dependency.
    Has anybody got an idea where these two libraries have gone?
    Regards,
    Thomas
    PS: The 7.0 procedure, which can be found in various posts, doesn't seem to work any more for CE 711.

  • Caching in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi Experts,
    I am trying to develop a web dynpro for java application based on RFC model.
    I am using an RFC that brings the Countries and States from the R/3 and will be used as dropdowns in the views controllers.
    The question is:
    I would like to cache the Countries and States in my web dynpro application. The idea is not to execute the model everytime. The model should be executed only once. I would like to store these countries and states in a local java dictionary or etc. and use them for UI element designing.
    Is there any way to do this in Web Dynpro Java? I would like to follow a better approach to avoid performance problems.
    I do not want to follow this approach: executing the model in the wdInit method of the controller. Executing this model in this method also causes performance problems. Because the model is brining approx 1540 records from R/3.
    Please advice.

    Hi All,
    Thank you for the suggestions.
    I am a beginer in wd java. i am starting with amit's suggestion.
    Step 1: Execute RFC to fetch data preferably use doInt method for it.
    Should I execute the method in wdInit of the view controller/component controller?
    I defined a method "executePMPReadBAPI" in component controller.
      public void executePMPReadBAPI( )
        //@@begin executePMPReadBAPI()
       try{
            wdContext.currentPMPDoctorReadElement().modelObject().execute();
            }catch (Exception e){
            logger.errorT("Error in executing PMP Read BAPI");
    wdInit of View controller:
              IWDAttributeInfo countryInfo =
                   wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute(
                        wdContext.currentContextElement().COUNTRY);
              ISimpleTypeModifiable countryType =
                   countryInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
              IModifiableSimpleValueSet countryValueSet =
                   countryType.getSVServices().getModifiableSimpleValueSet();
              for (int i = 0; i < wdContext.nodeCountries().size(); i++) {
                   IWDNodeElement CountryNode =
                        wdContext.nodeCountries().getElementAt(i);
                   String countryKey = (String) CountryNode.getAttributeValue("Land1");
                   String countryText =
                        (String) CountryNode.getAttributeValue("Landx");
                   countryValueSet.put(countryKey, countryText);
    This coding is working, I am able to populate the dropdowns. The problem is the application is slow.
    I am guessing this much coding is not necessary in the view conroller's wdInit method.
    Why the binding approach like mentioned below is not working (model>Conroller>View)? How should I execute the RFC in the wdInit of the component controller? Is this possible?
    wdInit of Component Controller: Below coding and proper binding is not sufficient to populate dropdowns? Please advice.
         Zhr_Ess_Address_Input ReadInput = new Zhr_Ess_Address_Input();
              wdContext.nodeZhr_Ess_Address_Input().bind(ReadInput);
              try {
                   wdContext
                        .currentZhr_Ess_Address_InputElement()
                        .modelObject()
                        .execute();
                   wdContext.nodeOutput().invalidate();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   logger.errorT("Error Reading the BAPI");

  • Synchronization in Web Dynpro JAVA

    Hi All,
    I have a Web Dynpro JAVA application, for which an iView has been created and is assigned to a role. Now I have the below requirement,
    If two users tries to access this application at the same time then the second user has to get a message stating that "A user is already accessing this application please try later". Basically the thread concept. Is it possible to achieve this in Web Dynpro JAVA. If yes please provide me some pointers on how to achieve this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vishweshwara

    Hi Vishweshwara,
    Create the Custum table with UserID fields.
    Create the RFC with UserID fields as input parameters and result  field as export parameter.
    Write the logic in RFC if Custum table contains any value in UserID Field then return error message like " This application is already using by  <UserID>"
    else
    stor the values UserID and LoginStatus(which you are sending from Webdynpr java app) in custom table and  return success message.
    Create webdynpro java component and create two iview called main and info view
    import the RFC in webdynpro java app and do the binding from model to component controller and component controller to view controller of main.
    Write the following code in wdDoInit() method of main view to get the login userid and sending that to RFC.
    String userID = null;
    IWDClientUser clientUser = WDClientUser.getCurrentUser();
    IUser User = clientUser.getSAPUser();
    if (User != null)
    try
    IUserAccount[] acct = User.getUserAccounts();
    if(acct[0] != null)
    userID = acct[0].getLogonUid();
    wdContext.current<RFCNodeName>Element().setUserID(userID);
    catch(UMException e)
    //Raise some error msg according to your scenario.
    //code for calling the RFC
    wdThis.wdGet<ComponentControllerName>().execute();
    String msg = wdContext.current<OutputNodeName>Element().getResult();
    if(msg != null && msg.lenght() !=0)
        if(msg.equalsIgnoreCase("This application is already using by  <UserID>")
              wdThis.wdFirPlug<PlugName>();// code for naivigate from main view to info view
    the navigation between main view to info view needs to defined in navigation moduler area.
    if you foolow the above specified way u can achive your requerment.
    Revert back if you any quaries.

  • KM Permissions in Web Dynpro Java

    The error message: "Permission denied: uri=/kmfolder,
    permission=node_create_child, user=XXXXXX"
    Background:
    We are using a KM Windows repository to connect KM to a Windows shared
    folder over the network. Then we are using a Web Dynpro java
    application to write a file to the KM Folder, which is then mapped to
    that KM Windows repository.
    Security on the Windows shared folder is wide open. Everyone=Full
    Control, and Domain Users=Full control.
    Problem:
    When end users try to write the file to KM through the Web Dynpro app,
    they get the error:
    "Permission denied: uri=/kmfolder, permission=node_create_child,
    user=XXXXXX"
    But when we give them the Content Admin role, they are able to write
    the file just fine. For this reason, I do not believe there is a
    Windows permission issue.
    We have tried:
    -Explicitly setting User Mapping through User Admin -> Identity
    Management
    -Using a System Principle role with Full Access (Read, write, delete)
    -Duplicating the Content Admin role, removing the pages & iViews (so
    they can't view the Content Admin interface) and assigning this role to
    our test users.
    We have setup:
    Network path
    - ->jCIFS=True
    - ->Network path=
    <serv.host.com>\<sharename>
    - ->User=<domain>\<ADMIN User>

  • Enhancements / Modifications in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi, all!
    I' ve a more general question: Are there any enhancement concepts for Web Dynpro Java available or at least planned that would give developers the same comfort and possibilities ABAP programmers have?
    I mean, will there ever be an Enhancement Framework like in ABAP - modification free enhancements via BADIs or customer exits?
    Think of one of SAPs WDJ flagship - the ESS/MSS. If you want to change anything within, you have no other possibility but to modify the sources. Considering this - together with the weak possibilities of backend access via JCo - I give the WDJ not a chance to stand the challenge of WD4A.
    Regards,
    Thomas

    Hi!
    I' m just going through the hep-pages, but what I can definitly say by now is that there' s no enhancement-concept in sight. This matter is getting kind of really embarrassing and leaves the question open: What the heck should an SAP customer persuade to focus on Java Development? No enhancements, no direct data access, no easy debugging possibilities like in ABAP.
    I' ve started with WDJ, but digging deeper into WD4A I' m getting more and more convinced that the whole Java thing was just something like a playground field for the development of the programming model and is now getting more and more obsolete with the rising of WD4A.
    Correct me, if I' m wrong, and forgive me, if I' m flaming, but when I started with Java development in SAP enviroment I was quite enthusiastic and didn' t understand resentiments of the ABAP developers against our programming language, but now I' m more and more joining their opinion.
    Regards,
    Thomas
    PS: I' ve - by the way - done the SAP Java Certification and am already regretting it.

  • Web Dynpro JAVA VS. Web Dynpro ABAP

    Hi,
    I'm interested in advantages and disadvantages of WD JAVA & WD ABAP. Could anybody give me some "detailed" information about it?
    We need any information you can give us.
    regards,
    Sharam

    Hi,
    <b>Web Dynpro for ABAP:</b>
    Web Dynpro for ABAP or Web Dynpro for ABAP (WD4A, WDA) is the SAP standard UI technology for developing Web applications in the ABAP environment. It consists of a runtime environment and a graphical development environment with special Web Dynpro tools that are integrated in the ABAP Workbench (SE80).
      The use of declarative and graphical tools significantly reduces the implementation effort
    1)    Web Dynpro supports a structured design process
    2)      Strict separation between layout and business data
    3)     Reuse and better maintainability by using components
    4)     Automatic operation of the Web Dynpro application using the keyboard
    5)     User interface accessibility is supported
    6)     Full integration in the reliable ABAP development environment
    for more see:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/77/3545415ea6f523e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    <b>Web Dynpro for Java:</b>
    Web Dynpro is a client-independent programming model of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform for developing user interfaces for professional business applications. It is based on the model view controller paradim which ensures that the business logic is separated from the presentation logic. This architecture is visible in the Web Dynpro perspective of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS).
    Web Dynpro helps you with the development of Web applications by:
    1)       Ensuring platform-independence with the meta model approach
    2)       Minimizing the implementation effort through declarative programming
    3)      Supporting a structured design process by applying the model view controller paradigm
    4)        Providing reuse and better maintainability by using components
    5)       Providing graphical support with tools in the Web Dynpro perspective
    6)       Providing the SAP NetWeaver Java Development Infrastructure (NWDI) which supports team work with different services such as source code versioning and the Central Build Service.

  • Web Dynpro Java UI Customization from Portal Using CTRL+Right Click in Prev

    Hi Team,
    I am able to hide some Web Dynpro UI elements from Portal Content Administration >> Web Dynpro iView >> Preview and by Pressing CTRL+RIGHT CLICK.
    Here I need to understand the concept like how things work in this case. If we hide some UI in Web Dynpro Java iView customization will there not be any RFC/BAPI calls associated with that particular UI
    For Example: Web Dynpro iView is made up of CompA and CompB and I am going to hide the UI associated with CompA. When I invoke the application will there not be any activity like invoking CompA calling associated RFC/BAPI etc related to CompA
    Please help me in understand the concepts and performance implications on this.
    Regards
    Sudhir

    Hi Sudhir
    You are quite right to raise this concern
    If you start hiding elements you may find a change to functionality
    For example - in ESS - if you hide a field that is set to mandatory in the back-end ECC when the user
    goes to edit the screen they will not see the field and not maintain the field but they will get an error
    "fill in all required fields" - which will completely confuse them as they will have filled in all displayed fields
    Also if you hide one field in ESS that is required to populate another field this too many causes inconsistencies or errors
    Ideal UI elements to hide are those that have been set to unsued (in the case of ESS in the back-end) and have no dependancies to other fields - however there is no complete list - you must test each scenario to your satisfaction
    Best wishes
    Stuart
