Applying GI PSU in Maximum Availability Setup

We have 2 node RAC & oracle restart Physical Standby. We want to apply PSU with zero or minimal downtime. Anyone have document to accomplish it.

Hi,
You can use database rolling upgrade as mentioned below link.

  • MAXIMUM availability with delay

    Hi guys,
I am running a dataguard instance with cascaded log shipping currently in MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY mode. We have the following setup. Primary and standby in London and the cascaded standby ( ie. standby shipping logs further to another standby in New york ) is in New york. Now, I need to run the new york standby 3 hours behind. So, is it possible to run the one of the databases in the standby configuration to run behind with the DELAY parameter ? Anyone tried it ? I read in the documentation that the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST cannot have DELAY parameter while running in MAX AVAILABILITY mode.
Can someone shed light on this ?
BTW, I don't want to change the configuration between both database here in London. They will be running with MAX AVAILABILITY. It is only from the standby to another standby in NEW YORK I wan't the LAG
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
You can write to standby redo logs and archive the same and now try to make a 3 hours detail using in applying the shipped archive log standby.
    Also please read ARCHIVE_LAG_TARGET parameter.

[Feb 18, 2012 8:39:08 AM]    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------There were errors with the file verification after the copy , for some reason. I don't know why it would have coughed on the two files oraagent.bin and oracleacfs.ko, but Oracle Support and google seaches didn't come up with anything. I plan to manually try an opatch apply instead of the oaptch auto, but while I do so, does anybody have clues for correctly applying this PSU?

To update this thread, I ended up speaking to Oracle Support on this. It turned out that one of the prerequisites in the README was the culprit:
2.1.4 Unzipping the PatchThe patch application requires explicit user actions to run 'opatch auto' command on each node of Oracle clusterware. So, it is recommended that you download and unzip the patch in a shared location to be able to access it from any node in the cluster and then as the Grid home owner execute the unzip command. To prevent installation failures, this location should be an empty directory.
    Note:
Do not unzip the patch in the top level /tmp directory.
The unzipped patch location should have read permission for ORA_INSTALL group in order to patch Oracle homes owned by different owners. The ORA_INSTALL group is the primary group of the user who owns the GI home or the group owner of the Oracle central inventory.>
In my example, I had unzipped to /tmp. However, the resulting error message stack didn't really point that out.
When I double-checked the README and tried again from /home/oracle/patches/p13348650 instead, it worked. It doesn't leave me with a confident feeling, more just relief. On a related note (and the entire reason for me patching to 11.2.0.3.1), ACFS filesystems ARE supported now under Oracle 5 update 7 with the 2.6.32-200.13.1.el5uek kernel (you had to really dig through the matrix in 1369107.1). Had this not worked, I would had to fail back to the non-UEK kernel to achieve ACFS.

  • Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA)

    Hi
We are planning to implement Oracle’s Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA).
Does anyone have experience implementing MAA? Can you please provide any guidelines?
Is it possible to set up active/active cluster setup in Oracle 9.2.0.5.0 (Sun Solaris version 9)
    Thank you
    Ram

    Hi
We are thinking of implementing 2 nodes cluster per site. We have 2 sites, one is primary site and other one is secondary site (the sites are 3000KM apart). Plan to use Data Guard (physical maximum availability option).
1)We like to reduce the switchover/Failover time in the cluster setup. Any idea?
    Thank you

  • To convert standby from maximum performance to maximum availability

    Hi,
I have configured a standby to primary (version:10.2.0). But it is in maximum protection mode. When a logswitch has been done then it is applied at the standby site.
Now I want to convert to maximum availability such that any updation should be applied at the standby.
Can I get the procedure, how should it be done.
    thankyou
    satyanag

    hi
First add standby logfiles to database then follow these commands..
    1. set LGWR,SYNC and AFFIRM attributes in the archive destination on primary database.
    2. issue this command on primary in mount stage.
ALTER DATABASE SET STANDBY DATABASE TO MAXIMIZE AVAILABILITY
    3. Then go to standby ..issue this command...(assuming standby in shutdown mode)
    a.startup nomount
    b.alter database mount standby database.
    c. Alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile;
this last command will not return the cursor..it keeps running....
Now u can check by creating a table on primary ...In case any more detail required then please post the message..
    hope it works for u..

  • Sender agreements on high availability setup

    Hi
We have XI and ERP exchanging some messages. Our ERP system has been switched to high availability setup.
As for one scenarion in XI: ERP is sender and there is ONE sender agreement that can use ONE communication channel (RFC).
In that communication channel, "RFC Server Parameter" is configured for one of the app servers. "RFC Metadata Repository Peremeters" are set to point to the load balancer.
What happens is that this scenarion can be started only from this app server that is configured in the communication channel.
How to enable that both ERP app servers could be th senders for this scenario?
    I am missing something obious...
    Thanks,
    Heiko

This seems strange for me too. But if I set the RFC Message server and Metadata server to use the same system, the connection will not work.
It seems that there are two possible ways:
    - change communication channel so that it would not be app server specific. Tried but don't seem to figure out how this should be configured.
    - add multiple sender agreements. XI dos not allow multiple sender agreements... requires different receiver... but there is no receiver at all.
    Any ideas?
    Heiko

  • Oracle databaguard maximum  maximum availability mode

    Hi All,
My database is in maximum availability mode at 9.2.0.8:
    SQL> select protection_mode from v$database;
    PROTECTION_MODE
    MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY
    SQL> show parameter log_archive_dest_2
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    log_archive_dest_2 string SERVICE=XXX.world LGWR SYNC
    AFFIRM,
    SQL>
    Oracle Documentation says:
Maximum availability mode provides the highest level of data protection that is possible without affecting the availability of the primary database. This protection mode is very similar to maximum protection where a transaction will not commit until the redo data needed to recover that transaction is written to both the local (online) redo log and to at least one remote standby redo log. Unlike maximum protection mode; however, the primary database will not shut down if a fault prevents it from writing its redo data to a remote standby redo log. Instead, the primary database will operate in maximum performance mode until the fault is corrected and all log gaps have been resolved. After all log gaps have been resolved, the primary database automatically resumes operating in maximum availability mode.
    and it also says.....
The NET_TIMEOUT attribute of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter specifies the number of seconds the log writer process on the primary system waits for status from the network server process before terminating the network connection. The NONET_TIMEOUT attribute reverses or undoes the timeout value that you previously specified with the NET_TIMEOUT attribute.
If you do not specify the NET_TIMEOUT attribute (or if you specify the NONET_TIMEOUT attribute, the primary database can potentially stall. To avoid this situation, specify a small, nonzero value for the NET_TIMEOUT attribute so the primary database can continue operation after the user-specified timeout interval expires when waiting for status from the network server.
If the log writer process detects a network disconnection, even one that was terminated due to a network timeout, the log writer process automatically tries to reconnect to the standby database. The log writer process does this to resolve network brownouts and false network terminations. In most cases, except when the network is physically broken, the log writer process is able to automatically reconnect to the network.
The log writer process continually attempts to reconnect to the standby database for a period of time that depends on the data protection mode currently set for the primary database. Use the following time estimates as a guideline for how long the log writer process will try to reconnect to the standby database:
In maximum protection mode, the log writer process tries to reconnect for approximately 5 minutes.
In maximum availability mode, the log writer process tries to reconnect for approximately 2 minutes.
In maximum performance mode, the log writer process tries to reconnect for approximately 30 seconds.
    question is:
1>Does that mean if primary database is in maximum availability mode and if there is network issue and it cannot communicate with standby database, it will freeze or stall for 2 minutes and then operate in maximum performance mode.
That freeze for 2 minutes in production is pain :(
    2>Does it also mean,
In maximum performance mode primary database will freeze fro 30 seconds and then move on.
3> To convert from maximum availability to maximum performance do I need to bounce the primary database at 9.2.0.8

I guess I haven't asked the question correctly,
I have asked 2 different question:
1> do you need to mount your database to downgrade the protection mode, I needed confirmation for that at 9.2.0.8
below is link which shows how to downgrade mode:
    http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Data_Guard_9i/DG_70.shtml
2> question is all together seperate,
staying in maximum availability mode what happens if you use 'LGWR ASYNC' or 'ARCH' for log shipping.
Why I am asking this question is because, oracle recommends to use 'LGWR SYNC AFFiRM' for maximum availability mode.
I have tried before 'LGWR ASYNC' or 'ARCH' in maximum availability mode and it worked.
Has any one tried 'LGWR ASYNC' or 'ARCH' in maximum protection mode. does db freezes or stalls.
3> When database stalls for 2 miuntes when it cannot connect to dataguard in maximum availability mode, I cannot see any trace files generated, nothing is written in alert log and nothing in listener.log

  • Maximum availability during partition move

I understand that the Assistant will be able to run on 9iR2 as well as 10g.
Will the Assistant then be using dbms_redefinition in order to have maximum availability during partition moves (plus any depending index builds and MV refreshes)?

    Martin,
In its initial release we will be using standard partition maintenance commands to move data, however we will be looking at whether we can take advantage of DBMS_REDEFINITION.

  • Maximum Availability to  Maximum Performance.

steps to change from Maximum Availability to Maximum Performance.
    SQL> select protection_mode from v$database;
    PROTECTION_MODE
    MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY
we need to come down to maximum performance mode due to some performance issues..any suggestions for the steps?

    Hi Raman,
    Perform below steps:
    1) shutdown immediate
    2) Startup mount
    3)SQL> ALTER DATABASE SET STANDBY DATABASE TO MAXIMIMUM PERFORMANCE;
    4)SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
Note: Issue all these commands on primary server
    Hope this should work

  • WL9/bpel10.1.3.4 MLR10  high availability setup missing internal queues.

    Hi,
Noticed that setups on weblogic HA (High Availability) cluster setups have a bug in setting up the JMS SOA module.
Currently 2 mandatory queues (distributed) and corresponding Factories are missing: eg BPELInvokerQueue and BPELWorkerQueue.
These queues basically guarantee no message loss during for example http/SOAP communications. Like in our case BPEL <-> OSB.
On non HA setups and probably older versions of BPEL the porting to WL9.2 goes smoother as they do contain these queues/.
Does anyone know putting them manually resolves the problem? Putting Service request on OTN to support this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Jirka

    Hi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,
and so on. It's much more simpler, better and less expensive.
CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.
On channel 9 there is many stuff from MEC:
    http://channel9.msdn.com/search?term=exchange+2013
    Migration:

  • The "none of your preferred networks are available" setup window will not close

I (obviously) am set up on the internet but there is a setup window that stays on top of the screen saying none of my preferred networks are available and will not go away.  My mouse will not click in it to cancel, choose a network etc.  How do I get rid of this?
    Thank you,
    Alice

Is this in system preferences/networks? If so try a force quit press  OPTION  COMMAND  ESC  from the menu that pops up select the offender and clcik force quit.
    Try rebooting.

  • Applying patch (PSU) Hyperion 11.1.2.2.300 in Websphere

    Hi guys,
I have Hyperion 11.1.2.2.0 running on Websphere and need apply the patchs to up version to 11.2.2.300.
I did download and checked the readme, said that I need do redeploy of all applications (CalcMgr, FR, Planning...).
This process of redeploy I need running the runWASDeployment.sh? Or only execute config-tool-manual.sh to reconfigure the applications?
If I execute runWASDeployment.sh, I need remove all profiles of Websphere and Applications, for after do all deployment using this script.
    Thanks

    Hi Santy,
I applied the patch and executed the configtool-manual.sh but haven't the Redeploy option.
I found the Oracle documentation http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-tips-issues-102-up-1612166.pdf on pag. 38, where said to do redeploy on Websphere Console, but I don't know where are the EAR files.
How I should to do redeploy in Websphere?
    Regards,
    Marco

  • Sizing a standby system for Maximum Availability

    - Having primary and secondary sites with the SAME database server configuration. The server configuration will either be a SMP system with lots of processors or a RAC consisting of a number of
    4-way SMP processors.
    - Data Guard shall be used for the standby "functionality". From a functional point of view, the standby can be either physical or logical.
    - The application is very "update/insert intensive" (~50%).
According to the documentation I've read, the recommendation seems to be to use physical standby,
but I am a little worried about performance using
a multiprocessor system for the "Log Apply Service".
If have understood it right, the RMAN process is single-threaded and can only exist in one instance, while the
LSP process manage several processes/execution threads.
Is it therefore possible that logical standby may have greater throughput than physical standby on a SMP system, or is the "Managed Recovery" always more effective".
Will I have problems wichever solution I chose, i.e
are there other "single-threads" that are likely
    to become bottlenecks.
    /jan

I think in u'r case standby managed will be a secured option b'coze when ever archives get generated it will be applied there won't be a archive loss
