Approximate color match?

Hello all: I'm having trouble getting a color to display. I know there are built-in issues as to how color displays in a browser, but am wondering is I can fine-tune this any more than I have so far.
The issue: page in question has an illustration on it, which contains a shade of red. I'm creating jpegs of text headers in PS, and would like the text to appear in (as nearly as possible) the same red.
I've opened illo in PS, selected the color with the eyedropper, noted the hex number and the RGB settings.
Created new PS files for text heads and used this info to color text in those files. Everything looks fine in PS, color match looks correct - until I go to Save for Web, at which point in the Save for Web window, the color changes dramatically to a darker red. The resulting jpegs also show the wrong color in GL and when live.
Both files (original illo and text head) are RGB mode in PS. Both have embedded profiles for Adobe RGB. Color settings in PS set to Adobe RGB.
Illo red looks fine, both in PS and on web. When I send illo to Save for Web the red remains the same and looks fine.
Text file looks ok in PS until I go to Save for Web, at which time red displays as dark brownish ugly color.
Checking or unchecking Only Web Colors in the Color picker window makes no difference.
Again, I understand that web color is not exact, and there are limitations on what colors can display. But since the red in the illustration displays just fine - in PS, GL, and on the web - it seems like it should be usable in the head jpegs as well - but it doesn't. What am I missing? Is there a way for me to come close to matching the red in the illustration in any way?
thanks
L

That's your problem.
Either set your working space to sRGB for new graphics, or convert them to sRGB when you save for web. The convert to sRGB option can be checked either in the save for web dialogue, or in the save for web dialogue flyout menu (to the right of the preset drop down menu), depending on your PS version.
This is a color management issue, and has to do with how your browser interprets color. You can enable color management (google it) using Firefox and might find your results more predictable.

  • I would like to change the colour of bars in a chart without losing the underlying default texture associated with my chosen theme. None of the 3D textured fills offered in "Chart Colors" match the textured fill of the theme. Any suggestions?

I would like to change the colour of bars in a chart without losing the underlying default texture associated with my chosen theme. None of the 3D textured fills offered in "Chart Colors" match the textured fill of the theme. Any suggestions?

Thanks Gary, but no, that does not work. First of all, I can't select each bar individually. When I click on one bar, all three bars are selected.
When I use "inspector > graphic" I have 5 fill options: none, color, gradient, image, tinted image. The default selection for the theme I'm using is image. What I would like to use for my charts is the same image that this theme uses for table headers. It has the same texture as the chart, but a different colour. Using anything but image or tinted image removes the texture from the fill.
I have found I can do one of two things. I can select tinted image from the fill selections in "inspector > graphic" or I can select 2D Image Fills from "inspector > chart > chart colors". The first choice does not allow me to match the table header colour because it only allows me to apply a tint to the existing colour and adjust its opacity. The existing colour has too much influence on the fill, so I can't find an RGB adjustment that will match the table header colour. The image selections from "inspector > chart > chart colors" do not quite match the colour or the texture. Again, I can try to tint the image, but I still can't get it to match and the texture is not the same anyway.
The image I want to use obviously exists in the software as it is an attribute of the theme, but for some reason is inaccessible. The other angle I have tried is to edit the theme, but I can't figure out how to do that either.

  • LR3 Print Module: printing to profile - unable to change Color Matching

    Hi
I use LR3 in 32 bit mode (there is no 64bit driver for HP DesignJet 130n).
I always print to profiles. In LR2 I had to make sure that in the PrintSettings the option Color Matching was set to "Vendor Machine", because although I saved this setting, LR never remembered.
Now with LR3 the option is again set to"Color Sync" but this time it cannot be changed.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Bruno

    Bob,
My problem is exactly what you say: you must find the appropriate place in the printer interface where you can disable all color management performed by the printer driver.
In OS X (10.5.) I know only of two places where I can handle Color Management: "Print Settings" and "Profile" in the LR3 Print Module.
By default LR3 sets the Print Settings "Color Matching" to "Vendor Machine" if I choose "Managed by the Printer" for the Profile.
By default LR3 sets the Print Settings "Color Matching" to "ColorSync" if I choose a custom printer/paper profile.
Where/what is "the appropriate place in the printer interface where you can disable all color management performed by the printer driver" ?

I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Problems with color matching when printing...

Hi, I work for a small family business in the P.O.P. industry.  We currently have myself and one other designer, we both take illustrator files that have come from the graphic design firm that we contract with and get them ready to print on our Vutek QS3200.  However ever since acquiring the printer we have begun to run into problems with the colors when printing.  When the files are exported off of my computer, I use either .tif or .pdf files, they print as they should, the colors seem to match the proof and everything goes smoothly.  However when the other designer exports a file, he tends to do mainly pdfs, the colors tend to be extremely different from where we want them.  Also we will get very strange results, such as yesterday he kept getting a faint yellow 1/2" border around his prints.  After I believe 3+ hours of him trying, I was given the original CD and instructed to try.  After 15-20 minutes of making the changes that we needed to make (adding a new price point) and ripping, mine printed perfectly.
We both use Macs, both have CS3 Design standard, only differences between the computers are mine is newer and a bit faster, and I'm running OS 10.5.6 and he has 10.4.  He has also at some point loaded various color profiles, whereas my CS package is just whatever the default is when I loaded it.  When we were being trained he grabbed the color profile off of the Colorburst RIP server and loaded onto his computer, plus I believe he has a couple for freelancing purposes on there as well.  My thought is that these profiles are somehow corrupting the files that are going through that computer, but I honestly am lost with it at the moment.  He believes the problem lies within the fact that he does not have the newer OS, I honestly cannot see that as having any effect on this at all.  I was wondering if anyone has run into any similar problems, or if anyone might have any advice on this issue?  I would really like to be able to solve this, as I was hired to do mainly structural design for the P.O.P. and I'm having to put in a lot of overtime to get my work done along with the additional work that I'm having to do.
    Thanks for your time

I've got a few years experience calibrating large format printers.  First, the Yellow sounds like a file problem.  I used to work with two workstations, one PC ( RIP station ), and one Mac ( file prep station ).  I tend to agree with you in that the OS is probably not the problem.  But, any Colorburst profiles should remain in the RIP, not in the originator application.  My workflow consisted of creating EPS files that were based on established color settings in their given applications ( i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop ) which were interpreted by the RIP which had it's own calibrated profile ( perhaps more than one based on how many different substrates were being used ).  Your partner may be complicating things by incorporating a RIP profile prematurely.  If there are deviations big enough to be noticed, there has to be something in the application color settings that is causing some type of corruption.  This could lead back to the operating system, but I would think it lies somewhere in Bridge or the application color settings.  Start there.  You should seriously consider implementing a calibration system if you do not have one already.  Another slight possibility is the driver's ability to interpret files coming out of Leopard vs. files coming out of Tiger.  It may benefit you both to be in the same operating system dynamics, using the same driver versions and RIP profiles.  At the very least, match everything that is currently working successfully and put them on both machines.  If there is still a noticeable problem in color matching, then something is seriously wrong and you should call in a prepress profiling expert.  Hope this helps.

  • Color matching with multicam clips

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how I can color match between my multicam clips in FCPX.  I'm kind of a newbie, but I'm trying... :-)
If I double click on a multicam clip that I just created, I see all the clips expanded on the timeline.  At that point, I can sync, edit, etc.  If I color match there, it's very easy, and it works well.  The problem is that I can't figure out how to save all my edits and then "un-expand" the mulitcam clip so it's just the one layered clip (same as if you just drag the multicam clip down from the events list).
I suppose I could just leave it expanded - but it would be easier to work with if it was just the one multicam clip, instead of all the clips inside it expanded out.  So - how do I do it?  Am I making sense?  If the color matching applied to the actual event, it would be easy - and I could just create a new multicam clip and start a new project.  However, it doesn't work that way and only applies the color matching to the clip in the timeline (as it should....).
Thanks for any help you might have.
    Johnny

    Hi Tom,
I've got a similar problem to the one you helped on this thread.
I'm trying to colour correct one of the multicam clips in the angle editor.
When I click colour match and hover over the other clip part of this multi cam clip nothing happens and the 'apply match' button remains greyed out.
I can colour match the individual cuts back in normal time line but of course I don't want to waste time doing it to every single clip/cut.
Why won't it let me colour correct in angle editor?
The mouse icon turns into a mini monitor when I hover over the clip i want to match to.
    Any ideas?

  • Looking for "Color Matching" in Tiger Printer dialogue box

    Hello,
I'm in transition from using Photoshop 7 in Classic to Photoshop CS in Tiger. I built a printer profile in ProfileMaker 5.xx that I would attach to the Printer Dialogue box in Classic under "Color Matching." Thus my prints would pretty much match my monitor. Using Photoshop CS I don't see "Color Matching" option. Do I convert the file to the printer color space and then use "No color Adjustment?"
    Any ideas?

Bought the HP Color LaserJet 1312nfi for 399.99.

How can I adjust two displays for correct color matching? I have an HP w1907, which is my main computer monitor, and a Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD. The Samsung is connected to a Matrox MX02 Mini for external monitoring as well as to the pc for desktop extension. Each monitor has its proprietary adjustment tool, but very limited.

  • Color matching setup?

    Hello,
I'm an editor new to SG CS6 and am looking how to reveal the Color tab to expose the 2up/3up buttons. I saw a few tutorials regarding the color-matching workflow and went through seemingly everything to find these buttons to no avail.
    Thanks in advance,

Those features are in the new SpeedGrade CC, release tomorrow.

  • Pantone color matching problem

Why is this happening? A Pantone chip in the solid, coated swatch book and AI CS3 pantone swatch library don't match.
811C in the chip book is flourescent orange but onscreen it's peach.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Its as accurate as it can be considering the differences between RGB and CMYK and Pantone. Remember, RGB is really only suitable for screen based graphics - light emitting devices. CMYK is best for 4 color printing processes. Pantone colors are 'spot' or single colors mixed to get that result.
Alot of confusion happens because the three different systems do not easily 'convert' and people get caught when the printed result bears no resembelance to the screen result.
For really best results get your self a Pantone Color Bridge book, select your Pantone color, and then use the RGB or  CMYK breakdown they recommend for best color match.
Fluro colors will never print well as CMYK or RGB although they my view well on screen.

  • Where are the Color Matching buttons for Speed Grade CS6?

I just purchased CS6 and all of the online videos talk about the new color matching feature.  But I don't see it anywhere.  How do I enable this feature?

Thanks for the reply.  It took 50 minutes on hold and 20 minutes with the Indian tech support before they finally gave me the same answer.  It's pretty $hitty of Adobe because on the website, they list these features under CS6.  All the videos talking about the new features of CS6 show it and never once do they mention this feature is only available with CC.

  • Color match issue in FCPX 10.1.4

I recently upgraded from FCPX 10.0.9 under OSX Snow Leopard to FCPX 10.1.4 under OSX Mavericks. In th latest version of FCPX I recognized that the results of the color match function are very different compared to version 10.0.9 of FCPX. I used it a lot with great results, in the latest version the colors don't match anymore. I re-installed FCPX version 10.0.9 under OSX Mavericks and the color match function is working perfectly. Anybody else has this issue? For now I'm back to the old version until I find a solution to my problem.

Still, the question remains - if one adjusts for it in the display calibration (uncheck the box in color)
THEN one's rods & cones just get bleached out. Snowblind. Yes?
Here are 2 solutions. In my opinion, Larry is best (do it at export in compressor)... Apple's H.264 is an issue, I do use the x264 encoder.

I do miss having the "super white" setting from FCP 7 - however - one really always has to

  • CYMK slider color not staying put when trying to color match editable text

    Hello-
I'm having trouble with Acropbat Pro and color matching. I tried the magnifying glass for the editable text box I created, but the color is slightly off. I used command 3 to open up the CYMK slider. I adjusted the slider to the color I do want (the CYMK color in the document made in Illustrator), hit "ok", but the color reverts to something else!!! I recheck  the text color and sure enough the CYMK slider bar changed to something a little different. Why is this????
Ex: I click on text in the editable box, then another color option, adjust the CYMK slider to 0, 58, 28, 0 and then click ok to exit out of the color choices box. The text then changes to different color again!!! I click back on the color and somehow the CYMK slider is 3,56,28,0???? Why is this??? I'm so frustrated I can't figure out how to match this document and make it stay!!!
    Thanks!!!
    Lisa V

Here is an example on an editable text art document:
Baseball Party Invitation Editable Text Invitation by printmagic
This is what I mean. I am bringing in an art document and creating a personalized name area. I am trying to match the text to a color on the document but the magnifying glass is off. And when I go into "other color" I am given a number of color picker options including a slider. I am given a CYMK slider if I click command 3 on the grayscale slider. I change the CYMK color slider to what I want but the document switches it.

  • Aperture, Display and Printer Color Match/Profile Calibration ?

I need to calibrate my HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m Printer to match what I see on my Acer X223w 22 inch display when using Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS5
The colors are pretty close to matching but each photo I print comes out deeper in color ( shadows and highlights are off )
I have the Acer display Color Profile set to Adobe RGB 1998, All photos shot with my Nikon D5000 in RAW format and Color Profile Adobe RGB 1998,
Aperture 3.03 Proofing Profile Adobe RGB 1998 and when I print a photo I set HP Color Matching / ColorSync to Adobe RGB 1998
I've been using Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II PP-201 for prints but can't find a profile for it to add to my HP Printer.
If I did find a profile how would I install it so it would show up in the drop down list of paper types ?

Well I'm pretty amazed that the prints are just slightly off, with all the things you're doing wrong in color management.
First off, you don't seem to know the difference between a device profile and a working space (i.e. 'synthetic' profiles), since you assigned AdobeRGB to both your monitor and printer. You should profile your printer and display with special hardware, like the X-Rite Colormunki. This will generate a profile, that will translate how color should look theoretically (by the assigned working space e.g. AdobeRGB), to how they will look on the hardware.
Secondly, RAW-images do not have a color profile! The setting in the camera only applies to in-camera JPEGs. RAW files only contain the voltages the CCD measured, this has to be translated into in image later.
Thirdly, softproofing in AdobeRGB almost never makes any sense. It doesn't make any sense if your are softproofing in AdobeRGB if you want to match screen to print. Your softproofing profile should be the profile that is specific for your printer and paper combination. The only synthetic profile that makes sense to softproof to is sRGB, since that is the colorspace used on the web. And even that is disputable since 99.9% of web user do not have a calibrated/profiled monitor.
Fourthly, Adding a color profile will not add a paper type to the drop down list in the printer driver. These are hard-coded in the printer driver and basically determine the amount of ink being placed on the paper.
So I'd suggest at this point to fetch yourself a copy of 'Real World Color Management' by Bruce Fraser (ISBN 9780321267221) and read it from the front to the back before you again embark on the path of color management.
