IPod update Version 1/2

I recently updated my iPod 60 GB with version 1.2 and now the screen has lines, the iPod locks up, and I am having difficulty syncing. I am currently restoring and it seems to be progressing, but there are still lines on the screen; graphic garbage. Any suggestions?

I spent an unpleasant several hours trying to get my 30G (5th gen) iPod working properly with my Honda Accord Music Link after updating to version 1.2 of the firmware. The iPod was not recognized by the Music Link (this is a known issue, unfortunately I didn't know about it until I had updated). My PC runs WinXP and I had the same problems that others had trying to get back to version 1.12 of the firmware, since iTunes 7 wouldn't allow me to do it. I finally did a Windows System Restore to a point prior to the iTunes/iPod firmware upgrade. This got me back to iTunes 6.0.5, but my iPod was still at 1.2. But at least iTunes 6.0.5 allowed me to run the 1.12 firmware. Then I re-installed iTunes 7, so I could access my libraries (it changed all my libraries, even the old ones, so that iTunes 6 couldn't read them). I had to fool around with various versions of QuickTime during all of this, too. I love my iPod and have been impressed with the Macs I've seen lately, but the difficulties that I had simply restoring my iPod to where it was before the upgrade felt more like a Windows experience than an Apple experience. I've noticed that Mac users have also had troubles with the iTunes/iPod update. The worst part was that there was absolutely nothing anywhere on Apple's website to help me through the process, and I have already passed my 90 days of phone support. There's no excuse for that. I can accept that they issued software with some bugs, that happens to everyone, but even Microsoft issues workarounds as soon as they know there's a problem. In case anyone doubts that this is a widespread problem (or that Apple is aware of it), check out the "Popular Downloads" on Apple's support site, and you'll see that iTunes version 6.0.5 and iPod updater 2006-06-28 (version 1.12) are at the top of the list, with the new version of iTunes coming in 3rd. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a lot of iPod owners are reverting to the older software.

  • Should i download the ipod updater version 1.2 on my itunes?

Are there still lots of bugs with it even after itunes verion 7.0.1 came out?

I downloaded the ipod 1.2 updater on my itunes but did not do the new update to 7 provided today. No problems with my nano. I haven't noticed anything significant that the update has fixed. It simply says that it has "bug fixes" but I don't notice anything. Not sure if I am the only one that can say this and I don't know if it really matters that I didn't do the Itunes update too. Sorry if my answer isn't as helpful as it should be!

  • Can you remove old versions of iPod updater from your PC?

I was attempting to clean up my PC and remove unwanted software and I noticed in add/remove programs that all of the iPod updater versions I have ever installed are still on my PC even though I only need the latest version. I tried to remove the older versions and my PC won't let me. Can you remove the older updater versions from your PC and if so, how do I go about doing this without getting an error message?

It gives me an error transfer or something like that. There is no stand-alone uninstall - when you go through add/remove, the installshield starts and then I get that error. I was thinking about just deleting it via windows explorer but I don't want to create more problems. I just think it's silly to have it on my PC if it's never going to be used again.

  • Battery Problems after Itunes 7.0 andd ipod update 1.2

Hi folks I too am having problems with the new updates for Itunes and Ipod updates... I have a 30 gig video Ipod...Did the update, and everything went fine as far as updating the ipod and itunes....Except now I only get barely 7 hours of audio playback on my ipod... Has anyone else noticed this problem... And if so is there a way to revert back to the previous Ipod update version for the time being..... I dont use videos on my ipod just audio podcasts... But I need the battery time to be back to what it was before the newest update... As I work 10 hours a day... Thanks for your help......

You can go back to your past settings. Just connect your Ipod to Itunes and click on your ipod. The first tab to the left gives you the option.

  • Restoring an iPod on version 4.8 of iTunes

Have a problem with iTunes when trying to optimize album artwork (error message -2003). Seems to be timing out two thirds of the way into each update, after roughly about 5 minutes.
Wouldn't mind trying to restore my iPod to try and fix the problem but would like some help/reassurances before I do.
Do I really have to update iTunes to the dreaded version 7.0? Or can I simply restore and then keep my existing tried and tested version 4.8? The instructions on this site for version 7.0 mention a summary tab which doesn't seem to exist in the good ol' version that I have.
Any ideas if I can still restore without having to risk my existing 6000+ songs, playlists and ratings?
Or even better, has anyone out there even begun to fathom out how us poor people, and there doesn't half seem a lot of us, who are experiencing artwork problems, can finally put this one to bed?

The minimum requirement of iTunes version for 60G iPod Photo is 4.7.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971
So, you can do it with iTunes 4.7, but the iPod updater version should be matched with it.
One thing - there is always a risk for doing Restore. Therefore, you should back up all data on your iPod before doing the Restore

  • Recent iPod Updater has sabotaged my iPod!!

So I plug my iPod into my PC to put some songs on it, and I get a little window that says I need to download an update for my iPod. Ok, no problem. I download the file and install the Updater (to include restarting the PC afterwards). I run the updater and it begins doing some things to the iPod. The updater recognizes my iPod and even my name and the unit's serial number and all that.
Suddenly, there's an error message saying something about how the update failed or some such nonsense. When I try again, the Updater no longer recongizes my personal info and only gives me the option to RESTORE the iPod, not UPDATE. On top of that, my iPod will no longer start up properly even when disconnected from the PC.
I just get that dreaded Caution exclamation point atop a folder icon right after the Apple logo shows up. Then the unit turns off.
I can't believe that I am looking at possibly having to wipe my iPod because of a software issue from Apple themselves. It's a 60GB and it has a LOT of music that I don't want to have to find again. iTunes only has about half of the songs as I have changed PC's since I bought the iPod.
Also, I tried an older iPod Updater version, but that didn't work either.
    Any ideas?
      Windows XP Pro

Well, Tech Support mentioned iLounge software, but seeing even "My Computer" wants to reformat the device, they went on to say that my only option is to completely wipe the iPod.
So, in retrospect, I get a message to update, I do, and it screws everything up so much that I have to lose all the music on my iPod (which wouldn't be such a big deal hadn't the hard drive with the music on it recently crashed). The moral here has to be to NEVER UPDATE ANYTHING iPod or iTunes related.

  • HT4972 I have an Ipod touch version 4.2.1 and the instructions do not detail how to update to iOS 5. Can you help with me step by step instructions.

I have an Ipod touch version 4.2.1 and the instructions do not detail how to update to iOS 5. Can you help me with step by step instructions.

iOS 4.2.1 suggests that you may have 2nd generation Touch, which cannot be updated past iOS 4.2.1
Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353  for help in identifying your model. A quicker method may be to check the back casing. If your iPod has Model No.A 1288 etched into it, then it's a 2nd gen Touch.
Assuming that you are using the latest version of iTunes (today, that is 10.6.3), to check if your iPod can be updated, connect it to your iTunes and look on the Device/Summary pane. Select Check for Updates. If there is one, you will see a message telling you that and how to install it. However, if you see a message saying that your iPod is up-to-date, then it cannot be updated.

  • IPod updater/restore proble w/ latest 2006-06 version - FIXED

    Alright kids peep this!
Background- have a Gateway 506GR running Winblows XP Home. Nothing special on it except I use both XPlay 2.0 and iTunes. Everything runs dandy. I have had 2 iPod Mini and a friend has a first gen Ipod U2 version. Updated them, restored them all gravy. Again, no probs...
SO, the wife gets a an iPod Nano... thats when the problems start kicking in. Plug it in and it says we need to update to the 2006-06 updater. Cool. I did it with my Mini so I think this will be easy breazy... WRONG. Muf*cking Nano keeps freezing up. Updater freezes up, restore has no chance. Seems that something is fouling up the system here. Also get the error that cannot write to drive "G", the nano removable drive, sweet!
I uninstall EVERYTHING - iTunes, updaters, XPlay, start up PC in safe mode, turn off firewall (ZoneAlarm), disable virus, remove MusicMatch... nothing. Tried to do the update /restore by manually putting the Nano in Disk Mode and still nada. Oh yeah, took it to the Apple "Guru's at the Stanford store and ValleyFair in SJ and they have NO CLUE. They try some simple fixes and of course get nowhere. They just end up giving me another. I went through 2 this way.
I got real desperate now. I search Google and found this - http://screwdave.blogspot.com/2006/05/ipod-nano-updater-3-23-really-needs.html and of course no dice there either. Maybe it will work for you.
OK, FINALLY peep out DSLreports, the cats there are freaking real GURUS man, and found some guy with the same issue as me. The guy tried EVERYTHING the forum was throwing his way and he had no luck. One casually mentions that he may have a power supply issue regarding the USB 2.0 ports on his PC. "Hmmmmmm", I think that this is just stupid enough to work. I go to Radio Shack and buy a crappy $20 USB 2.0 hub with an external power supply and plug it in. Removed iTunes, all the updaters, and Xplay and start from scratch. Re-install iTunes 6.0.4.2 and use update 2006-03, then re-install XPlay 2.9. Plugin the Nano and Whamo! it freaking works. Sweet.

Same thing happened to me (well my 30gb video iPod XD) And to a lot of people, apparently. My iPod has been comatose (I REFUSE to say it's dead) since Monday after the iPod Update. It's NEVER had problems before, so I lay the blame on the Update. It took forever to "update" (I had it in for hours) and when I finally dced it (prematurely apparently?? I don't know how leaving it in a couple hours and then taking it out makes it premature but okay iPod Updater...) it flashed to the Apple screen, which I then reset, and now it's in its comatose state
I have really nothing to contribute but to say it's happened to me, too XD I've had no luck at other threads so if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated Thanks

  • IPod Updater 2006-06-28 Software Version 1.1.2 causes video lock up

My 5th generation iPod was working fine until I loaded this update. I had it spontaniously reset twice in a row while playing two different video podcasts. The last 3 videos I've tried will cause it to just lock up after a minute or so and I have to reset it.
Is there a way to go back to software version 1.1.1 without restoring back to factory defaults? It would take over a day to reload 50GB back to my iPod over a USB 1 connection. Is there any other fix to this reset and lock up problem?

  • I have iPod with version 4.2.1 but I cannot update my apps

My iPod has version 4.2.1 OS and this is reported as the latest version
However, the majority of my apps require a later version.
One in particular is my FLAC music player.
I have 8 Gig of FLAC music on my iPod which I now cannot access due to a failed update of Cappricio.
I cannot even remove the FLAC music without a factory reset.
Are there any FLAC player that will work with OS 4.2.1, or can the OS be updated or where can I get older versions of Cappricio.
Looks like Apple have left its old customers without support.
    Cheers
    Martin

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

    Help!!!

Yesterday I installed iTunes 7 (Windows) and today I connected my iPod nano (previous generation) but now it is telling me I need to restore my iPod. It also tells me the iPod has been updated. When I press restore it goes into a cycle in which it begins by giving me the usual warnings about losing songs on the iPod and then says don't disconnect while restoring. It appears to be restoring then comes back with the message: "....has detected an iPod in recovery...you must restore" I have redownloaded. Rebooted the PC and all the other R's but still in this loop help!!!!!
