Apps waiting to update

I have several Apps that have been waiting to download, for weeks. I've followed several suggestions that I've found online, but nothing works. Any help?

Are you using the same Apple ID as those apps that need to be updates?
Can you update using computer iTunes?

  • App hung on "waiting"; during update, I lost my wifi connection; now cannot delete to reinstall (no X), syc does not help; itunes store says it is installed and I cannot reinstall; deleting from itunes and synching does not remove "hung app"; HELP

App hung on "waiting"; during update, I lost my wifi connection and the app hung; now cannot delete to reinstall (no X), synching does not help; itunes app store says it is installed, therefore I cannot reinstall; deleting the app from itunes and synching does not reinstall the app on the ipod; the app developers have not helped and told me to check with Apple (which I am doing, since I am past my 90 day tech support). Hoping someone can help with this hung "waiting' app problem.

    - First try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next download the app on the computer and try to sync.
    - Last, restore from backup.

Fix iPhone Apps Stuck "Waiting" During Installation

  • My Apps are not updating on my iPad just showing "waiting" why?

My apps are not updating and just showing "waiting" why? Anything I can do?

Having the same issue.  Tapping it only pauses it or sends it back to waiting.
Did you get your issue figured out?

  • When I updated my apps, the apps are not updating but say waiting.  This is the 5th day they say updating.  What can I do?

Last week, I hit update all apps.  Unfortunately, the apps have not updated and continue to say waiting.  What can I do to fix this, so I can use the 26 apps that are pending?

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.
     Cheers, Tom

  • I have 2 apps that have been waiting to update for a week.  I don't really care about the update, I would just like to use them, but the are stuck waiting.  I have tried powering down, syncing with my computer...all fails.  Any ideas?

At this point you have no choice but to update the or delete them and reinstall them since you wont be able to use them until they update - or come out of the "waiting" loop.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

  • TS1702 apps are waiting to update constantly

Ipad 2 apps needed updating. I went to the app store to update, and clickrd the update all tab. The apps began to update when I lost my WiFi connection. All of the apps that needed updating are now dark with the update bar at the bottom, but none of them are progressing. In the app store it says "all apps are up to date". I've tried restarting the device, installing a new app, and all the other Apple suggestions with no problems, but also no success. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. -MacManD

Hi.  This happened to me recently on my iPad2, too.  I had apps to update, so I did an "update all".  Soon after, all the apps went into a "waiting" state.  Couldn't even delete them.  Tried a power off/power on reset.  Still the same.
After a bunch of searching unsuccessfully for an fix, I started fooling around a bit.  Well, my fix was extremely easy.  The hard part was find out about it!  Well, turns out it's "elegantly simple" just like Apple's intent with most areas of its computing strategy.  Cool!  Here it is:
Go into the App Store.  Now, do this singly for each app in turn.  In your list of "waiting" apps, select one by pressing its icon image once.
It will then take you to a larger version of that apps info.  Press the icon/image again.  Just once.
It will then take you to that particular app on your iPad.  Press the icon once.  It should start updating.
Do this singly for each app that is waiting to be updated and you list of updates should soon be cleared.
I don't know, possibly a problem with the "update all" code?
    Hope this helps you!
    Best,
    Doug

  • Why is Launchpad in Waiting mode? Also, other apps didn't update although it says they did.

On a late 2009 iMac. Yosemite.
Updated a few apps the other day, or so I thought.
Just noticed that Launchpad says "waiting" and the apps that I updated, did not update.
See attached photos. Anyone have a fix? Thanks.

I figured it out. Looking at the Launchpad, I realized it looks like my iPads, so I decided to see if I could hold down the App that was in "waiting" mode.... just as you could do in IOS.
Sure enough, I put my mouse pointer on the app in question and held it there. Then all the apps began to "wiggle" like they do in IOS.
A little  " X " appeared so I clicked it, and a window came up asking if I was sure I wanted to delete the app. I clicked yes and it fixed the problem. No more stuck app and no more launchpad in waiting mode.

You need to delete and redownload them to do that. This may require repurchasing paid ones.

  • Updated Apps "waiting" after iOS6 Update

I have the iPhone 4 which I just updated to iOS6. Today I clicked "Update All" to update apps that had updates available. Now they're all in "waiting" mode. I tried various things: signed out out of the App Store, restarted the phone, tried updating individually, updated with iTunes. Nothing worked. I'm hesitant to reset to factory settings. Any suggestions, please?

This is happening to a lot of people, i guess we just have to wait for apple to fix this problem.

  • App Can't Update/Stuck on Waiting

Hello everyone. Out of the blue, My iPad Mini Retina's apps would not update. I've tried resetting network settings to no avail, and even after updating to ios 8.1 today it still is having issues. No matter what, apps are stuck in the "waiting" mode. Anyone else having this problem or does anyone know how to fix it?

Thank you. So while this did fix the issue for the time being, i'd still like to be able to update apps without connecting to the computer. I can install and download updates through itunes, but still cannot without a computer.

  • A number of my apps do not update (icons locked in "waiting.." mode

A number of my apps do not update, they seem to be blocked in a "waiting..." mode. I fear I can lose the info inside. I close completely and open again iPad, but the apps continue blocked. How can I solve this? thanks

See if any of these suggestions help you get out of the "waiting" mode.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again.
You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • My apps won't update, stuck on waiting.

My apps won't update, they have that grey bar on them. Every time I try to update them it says , unable to load. Please help?!?

If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 15 minutes or so.
