APs join the wrong controller

When I set up access points , for some reason some of them want to join the wrong controller. I have set the dhcpd option 43 as well as have the dns name in our server. We are running the 4.0.179.11 version of the software. Also, two access points that were on the correct switch, are now on the wrong one. Anyone have any ideas what I am missing?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Konrad,
Have a look at the methods the AP uses to determine which of the WLC's to register to;
WLCs embed this important information in the LWAPP discovery response:
The controller sysName
The controller type
The controller AP capacity and its current AP load
The Master Controller flag
An AP-manager IP address
The LAP uses this information to make a controller selection, with use of these precedence rules:
If the LAP has previously been configured with a primary, secondary, and/or tertiary controller, the LAP examines the controller sysName field (from the LWAPP discovery responses) in an attempt to find the WLC that is configured as primary. If the LAP finds a matching sysName for the primary controller, the LAP sends an LWAPP join request to that WLC. If the LAP cannot find its primary controller or if the LWAPP join fails, the LAP tries to match the secondary controller sysName to the LWAPP discovery responses. If the LAP finds a match, it then sends an LWAPP join to the secondary controller. If the secondary WLC cannot be found or the LWAPP join fails, the LAP repeats the process for its tertiary controller.
The LAP looks at the Master Controller flag field in the LWAPP discovery responses from the candidate WLCs if one of these items is true:
No primary, secondary, and/or tertiary controllers have been configured for an AP.
These controllers cannot be found in the candidate list.
The LWAPP joins to those controllers have failed.
If a WLC is configured as a Master Controller, the LAP selects that WLC and send it an LWAPP join request.
If the LAP cannot successfully join a WLC on the basis of the criteria in step 1 and step 2, the LAP attempts to join the WLC that has the greatest excess capacity.
From this good doc;

    I have disabled certificate checking, regulatory domain are the same between WLC and LAP, my LAP(1041), my WLC are updated with the good software version and the both WLC are "Virtual" WLC.
    If you have any idea to resolve this problem, I will be happy to know it :)
    Thanks

  • I bought the wrong controller.  Should I dump my RemoteSL for an Axiom Pro?

    I didn't realize that the Novation RemoteSL doesn't support Logic's internal plugins. Plus, the controller implementation is so different going from Logic to Protools that I'm having a hard time getting used to it.
    I realize that the Axiom Pro doesn't support Logic fully, but I'd rather have terrific Protools integration and so-so Logic integration than half-baked integration on both platforms.
    Any opinions from RemoteSL or Axiom users out there?

    Browsing M-Audio's website, I see that the Axiom Pro:
    automatically maps the keyboard’s 65 controls to commonly accessed parameters in digital audio workstations including Pro Tools®, Cubase, Logic and Reason*, as well as software instruments.
    I wonder if M-Audio has succeeded in doing what Novation finds so difficult, and found a way to map Logic's internal plugins to controls. I know that the (Emagic) Mackie Control , the Euphonix surface and the SmartAV Tango have managed to find a way. Maybe I should ask this question on the DUC.

  • Lightweight access-point joined the wireless controller but no radio channels

    a customer  wireless controller 2106  he use  access-point AIR-LAP1252G-E-K9  the access point the leds indicate
    etherner and radio is blinking green and status is green.
    please help i am in the customer company now

    The AP1252 has higher power requirements than some of the Cisco PoE switches provide.  Depending on the switch you are plugging them into you will get enough power to power up the device and connect to a controller but not enough to power up the antennas.  Options that can work include:
    1) Removing one of the antennas if you are not gonig to use it (or as a temporary workaround to get some wireless)
    2) Using an external power supply
    3) Using an external inline power appliance system that supplies enough power (http://www.microsemi.com/powerdsine/ is one example).
    4) Depending on the type of switch you are connecting to you may be able to upgrade code to provide a higher amount of power to the port.  For instance, a Catalyst 6500 by default supplies 15.8 watts of power to a port.  But if you upgrade the code to 12.2(33)SXH2? I believe you can get 16.8 watts of power and this is enough to bring up both antennas on the AP.  But even then you don't have enuf power to run the upper N speeds - I think anything above 72 Mbps is unattainable.
    Other AP models such as the 1140 have lower power requirements and may work better for you.

  • APs joined wrong Controller...

    Just plugged in 5 3602i APs and instead of joining the controller for this building they joing a controller for a different building. Not sure what to look for on the controllers or what to post...but why would this happen? How can I get them off the wrong controller and onto the right controller?
    Thanks

    Just to add.... Since you already have WLC's and AP's that are up, most likely you also have option 43 or DNS configured which is pointing to that WLC that these new AP's are joining.  Like Raskia mentioned, if you change the high availability, the AP should join that WLC you pointed to.  The hostname is case sensitive!!!! If the AP fails to join the WLC, then maybe the WLC time is off or something is blocking udp 5246 and udp 5247.
    The best thing you can do is put the AP on the same vlan as the WLC management, the AP needs to get a dhcp address or you need to configure a static address, but if the AP is on the same vlan, it should find the WLC and join using layer 2 broadcast. Once the AP joins, you can move that AP to another vlan since the AP already knows of the WLC.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

    How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

    To Verifying that Access Points Join the Controller or not there are two ways as below.
    Please go through the step by step to find the APs joined state
    When replacing a controller, you need to make sure that access points join the new controller.
    Using the GUI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
    Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
    Step 1 Follow these steps to configure the new controller as a master controller.
    a. Click Controller > Advanced > Master Controller Mode to open the Master Controller Configuration page.
    b. Check the Master Controller Mode check box.
    c. Click Apply to commit your changes.
    d. Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
    Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
    Step 3 Restart the access points.
    Step 4 Once all the access points have joined the new controller, configure the controller not to be a master controller by unchecking the Master Controller Mode check box on the Master Controller Configuration page.
    Using the CLI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
    Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
    Step 1 To configure the new controller as a master controller, enter this command:
    config network master-base enable
    Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
    Step 3 Restart the access points.

  • AP not joining the cntroller

    hi all,
    we have two wlc controller (192.,168.10.5 and 192.168.10.10).  I have set a dns entry for Cisco-LWAPP-Controller to join 192.168.10.5 and Cisco - CAPWAP-Controller to join 192.168.10.5. we run cisco switches for dhcp and i have given option 43 in hex but someone the access point does not want to join. It gives error msg saying it cant resolve cisco-lwapp-controller and cisco -capwap-controller although i have given dns entry. after a long struggle it joins the secondary controller for some reason...if i give high availabliltiy as the priamry controller 192.168.10.5 and then secondary as 192.168.10.10 then its fine....my question is why does it give error msg saying cant resolve cisco-lwapp-controller (when i ping this name it resolves to192.168.10.5) this is the error msg:

    Network Pro,
    i had the same issue
    In my case was pretty easy to resolve, i had to upgrade my APs from Autonomous to LWAPP
    Read this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
    This is my config in the switch / dhcp pool:
    ip dhcp pool prueba
       network XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
       default-router xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
       option 43 ascii CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER
    And then my WLC:
    ip host CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER (WLC IP ADDRESS)
    And then began to Join the APs to the WLC!
    Kind Regards,

  • How to join a Domain Controller Server to an two-tier (SQL Server 2012) and Sharepoint 2013 (SP2013) farm

    Hi,
    I am trying to build a 3-tier SharePoint 2013 farm.
    1. SQL Server 2012, Windows 2012 VM
    2. DC Server, Windows 2012 VM
    3. SharePoint 2013, Windows 2012 VM
    I didn't built the DC server. Someone else did. However, I created about 14 service domain user accounts for SQL Server and SharePoint install and operation.
    I was able to join the SQL Server into the SharePoint server farm using SharePoint 2013 Product Configuration Wizard.  When I start the Central Admin, and click on Servers in the Farm, I only see the SharePoint server and SQL server,
    but the DC server is not listed.  Any suggestion on what did I miss?
    Thanks
    Jean

    You cannot join the Domain Controller to your SharePoint farm.  You must instead join each server from that farm to the domain that is served up by that DC.  You will want to uninstall SharePoint and probably SQL before you do this.  If it's
    an option, I would re-provision your VMs completely and start fresh.  Once you login to a new server, join that server to the target domain like this:
    http://www.petri.co.il/join-windows-server-2012-to-domain.htm
    You'd have to ensure that your DNS resolves to the target domain on the server being joined to the domain.  If it doesn't, you can always use HOSTS entries to overcome that in the short term.
    Once you've joined both the future SQL and SharePoint servers to the domain, you can install SQL Server and then SharePoint on their prospective servers to create your farm.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks
    C

  • AP keep flapping between the old controller and new controller

    I am migrating the AP from the old controller to new controller. One AP connected to new controller and download the code then rebooted and re-connnected to old controller and download the code. After that it joined the new controller and download the code...It keep doing this.
    What is the issue and how to solve it....
    Thanks

    Hi Raymond,
    We also need to figure out why the AP leave the new WLC.
    Fixing this IMO will be a permanent solution.
    1) Execute "debug capwap errors enable" ,  "debug capwap events enable"  and debug pm pki enable" on the NEW WLC. Get the output at the time the AP goes out of the new WLC.
    2)  "show logging" from the AP.
    3) And "show ap join stats detailed "  and "show ap config general " from the WLC.
    Regards

  • APs randomly will not join the controller

    Hi all,
    In short, APs will join the controller immediately using the recovery image, but once it downloads 7.6.100 and reboots, it either cannot join the controller or will take up to 40 minutes.
    The AP is in local mode. The AP 1040 eventually joined the controller, 40 minutes after we deleted all the files off the flash which is unacceptable.

  • AIR-CAP3501I access point not joining the Cisco 2100 Wireless Lan controller.

    Hello All,
    I am installing a new LAP (AIR-CAP3501I ) through the wireless lan controller (AIR-WLC2112-K9) with software version 7.0. I have an external ADSL modem which will act as the DHCP server for the wireless clients and the LAP.
    Please find my network setup as below:
    The ISP ADSL modem , WLC and LAP are connected to a unmanaged POE switch. The LAP gets its power through the POE switch. When i connect the LAP and the WLC to the switch along with the ADSL modem, the LAPs are getting the ip address from the ADSL modem, however they are not joining the WLC for further process.
    ADSL Modem ip address: 192.168.1.254
    Management ip address on the LAP: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to port 1, untagged Vlan).
    Ap Manager ip address: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to the same port i.e port1, Untagged Vlan).
    The LAP is getting an IP address from the ADSL modem in the range of the DHCP scope.
    I will paste the logs very soon.
    Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong oe what will be the issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mohammed Ameen

    The Acess point joins the Controller for 2-3 seconds and then unjoins again. I am not sure what i am doing wrong here. The access points are getting the IPs from the ADSL modem through the switch, then it talks to the WLC, however it does not join the controller for further process.
    Note:
    The Managemnet interface and the AP manager interface are assigned to the same port 1 with unassigned Vlan as mention above.

    Hi
    I think we have experienced something similar and we did a 'more' on the env_vars file and found that the env_vars contained out of date IP default gateway information.
    For example:
    We established that the env_vars file contents have not been updating correctly. Documentation on the Cisco site suggests that changes to IP configuration information should be reflected in env_vars after a reload of the WAP.
    This does not always seem to happen.
    As an example, this env_vars contains the incorrect information that the static IP is XX.11.60.100, which is incorrect and at least least a year out of date, despite having undergone reloads since being reconfigured. Obviously, if the WAP comes up using this info, the gateway address etc. will not work...and the WAP is unable to contact the WiSM. We have also had a case where the incorrect DNS address is stored and used, which might be more of an issue for you looking at your output above.
    WAPXXX#more flash:/env_vars
    DEFAULT_ROUTER=10.0.0.1
    ENABLE_BREAK=no
    IOS_DEFAULT_DOMAIN_NAME=XXXXXXXXX
    IOS_NAME_SERVER_ADDR=XX.11.159.122
    IOS_STATIC_DEFAULT_GATEWAY=10.11.63.250
    IOS_STATIC_IP_ADDR=XX.11.60.100
    IOS_STATIC_NETMASK=255.255.252.0
    IP_ADDR=10.0.0.1
    MANUAL_BOOT=no
    NETMASK=255.255.255.224
    TERMLINES=0
    We wrote a script to go around and delete all the env_vars files on the 1240 WAP but then discovered that the LWAPP migration tool forces a reload of the WAP that auto-generates the env_vars file that we just deleted, complete with the wrong information again!
    I can offer no solution on how to stop the old information being written to env_vars, as I cannot find where it is stored in the first place, it must be somewhere in the flash, but am aware that other people in UK educational establishments have also experienced this issue without a proper fix being provided.
    The usual solution appears to be to get the WAP on your desk, delete the env_vars file and then pull the plug on the power. DO NOT SAVE/RELOAD. Put the power lead back in and the WAP should come up without refering to the env_vars file and will take all and any DHCP info you are providing.

  • CAPWAP APs drop off the 7500 controller

    I have a multiple 7500 flex controller deployed with over 2000 APs each on them and I notice that APs occasionally drop off.  When I find these APs I am able to telnet to them and I have found a fix for getting them back on the controller, but I want to know why this happens and if there is a way to avoid the problem.
    Observed:
    The APs have telnet enabled so I can get to the CLI.  Once in I do a dir command and see that there is little to no memory available (512 bytes to 0 bytes) in the flash memory.  I see that there are 5 large log files, file names are in the commands below.  When I do a show logging command I see the following over and over again
    *Oct  3 20:31:44.102: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Certificate verification failed!
    *Oct  3 20:31:44.102: DTLS_CLIENT_ERROR: ../capwap/base_capwap/capwap/base_capwap_wtp_dtls.c:447 Certificate verified failed!

    To resolve:
    The working theory is that the flash gets filled up with log files and is unable to download the certificate from the controller during the join process.  I delete the logs with the commands below and then do a wr mem and a copy run start and then reload.  This will fix the problem every time.
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r0_0.log
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r1_0.log
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r0_1.log
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r0_2.log
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r1_1.log
    delete /force flash:ap_log_r1_2.log
    Other info
    - currently running an engineering code of 7.3.113.12 on one 7500 and 7.4.110 on another, both seem to be having this issue.  I do not have this issue on a 5508 running 7.5 code.  Currently getting 7.4 vetted for deployment.
    Good luck with this one

    I have seen this issue, but only with older model access points and it doesn't have to be flexconnect and it doesn't matter what WLC code version your running.  Problamatic access points, I always check the flash to verify if there are logs or not, and do delete them in order to get the AP back up.  Again, I have only seen this with older non-802.11n access points.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    One is mesh the other is non mesh. So changing the code or setting up the ap as mesh would fix your issue. Either could of been the wrong ap purchased or the wrong image placed on the ap. the thing now is that you have to put the ap in local mode and delete the mesh files in flash. This will prevent the ap from still thinking its mesh.

  • I recently installed the xbox 360 controller app so that I could play my rockband drums in logic and ableton live but I installed the wrong one and I was wondering if anyone knew how to uninstall it from the system preferences page and the whole program?

    If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it and if anyone knows how to use the drum pads for those programs I mentioned would be great? I found a couple sites for using it with garageband but nothing as for mainly live and Im running OSX 10.6 so if anyone out there knows please let me know!!! The main reason I think I installed the wrong one is when I plug in the rockband drum kit to my usb port it dosen't show up in the xbox controller program but it lights up and I've tried all my different usb ports to see if that might be whats wrong but I still show nothing and I've also installed junXion and nothing shows up there either. So if anyone has any ideas just let me say thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
