Database Rostore - Very Urgent.

Hi guys,
Thanks in advance for help, I'm new to Oracle.
Our clinet has given us the some backup files of its Oracle 8i-
CTL1ORCL.ORA
INIORCL.ORA
LOG1ORCL.ORA
And many .ORA files
1 big .DBF file
I want to restore them.
How to go about it?
1 more question, can we restore them to some higher version of Oracle... 9i/11g?
Can you please explain me it in detail.
I'm also confuse with Defination of Database and Schema in Oracle, I'm basically a sql server dba.

Shema : is an user/owner in the database. It may or maynot own database objects (like tables/views/index)
Database : Its your oracle instance (Oracle Memory , Background process) + the database files (in your case CTL1ORCL.ORA ,INIORCL.ORA,LOG1ORCL.ORA , And many .ORA files,1 big .DBF file)

Assuming your "insert thread" is simply waiting on the next queue entry, why don't you just turn pooling off, open the connection and keep that one connection open?
I am fairly certain the speed issue has nothing to do w/the insert statement vs. stored procedure.

Controlfile has corrupted and not able to open up the database. Very urgent

I am working on 11gR1 database on linux environment and suddenly the DB went down. I look at the alert log and i am following that guidelines, but i am not able to put the database in mount state and it is thronging error message. Please suggest me in correct way. This is very high priority for me.
I have done below steps.
1.set the environment through . oraenv
2. export ORACLE_SID
3. SQL>startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.

Stanby database issue : VERY URGENT

we have stanby configured for 9.2.0.4 on AIX 5.2.0.0.Recently we added a new datafile to a tablespace in physical database in the new filesystem. But this path was not reflected in the standby database. NOw what happened is when the standby is put in recover mode it throws error datafile 4 /ora1data/dba/data1.dbf could not be found.
Later we have reflected the same in the standby also, but still we are getting the same error.
We have set standy_file_management=auto
How to go with this

Is this a physical or logical standby?
In the case of a physical standby, files added to the primary should be added automatically to the secondary DB.
Perhaps you missed some error message in the standby alert log file. It should tell you what went wrong.

Default tablespace doesn't say that user cannot create a table in an other tablespace.
You can see what tablespace are used by the user's segments :

1.)You must have to create a EO based on custom table and then VO based on this EO eventually to save the values in DB
2.) the row.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED); is used to set the the status of row as inialized ,this is must required.
3.) When u will create the VO based on EO the viewattributes will be created in VO which will be assigned to the fields to take care the db handling .
You must go thtough the lab excercise shipped with you Jdeveloper ,there is a example of Create Employee page ,that will solve your number of doubts.

Very Urgent.......How to update the database values through OAF pages ??

I am developeing some self service application thru Oracle Application Framework(OAF). There I am fetching 5 attributes from the database and displaying those attributes in my main page Table Region. Now my requirement is i want to edit that exising values & again i want to store it in the databse while clicking the update button. so first i have created one VO for fetching the values from the database & i make one Table Region in my main page along with 5 MessageTextInput field.. & i mapped that VO's attributes to my textbox.Now i can able to fetch & display the values inside the text box while rendering the page.
But I dont know how to update the values in the database. Caz in my VO I have only select query. So anyone plz send me the code for update. And also plz let me know where to insert that code..whether (CO or AM or EO)..it is very urgent.

Note that the default JavaBean datacontrol does not allow create/remove and transaction operations. These apis are not implemented for the JavaBean datacontrol.
You may re-initialize the rowsetiterator, by calling ((oracle.adf.model.generic.DCRowSetIteratorImpl)iteratorBinding.getRowSetIterator()).clearCurrentData().
This will force the RSI to refresh it's data via the named-accessor again.

fields of zfibue:
serailno = numc

prdha = char
hkont = char
gsber = char
wrbtr = char
budat = date
credate = date
cretime = time
processed= char
processedon = date
processedby = char
mapped = char      are   belongs to above type data types
and seelct-optionfields: s_bukrs for bseg-bukrs

                                     s_budat for bkpf-budat,
                                     s_processed for zfibue-processed,

I am having Oracle Database whice is storing 1000's of records daily.
I need to select some information based on date and time.
I am having two coloumns for Date and time. The first column(testDate) of type Date stores date as MM/DD/YY format and the second column(testTime)of type Numeric stores the time in seconds.
The Example data is :

My local system has Windows XP.I have installed Oracle 10g Express Edition,Apache,has jre1.6.0_03 and run the UCM installer.Both IDC Content Admin Service and IDC Content Service are set to start automatically during installation time."IDC Content Admin Service" is getting started automatically but "IDC Content Service" is not getting started.It is getting the following Error Message when we are starting IDC Content Service

I have already installed Oracle Database 10g and D2k 10g also on my local system.

The Oracle Homes are different for both the Oracle.

I'm facing a problem in invoking a servlet from a JSP having the JSF components.
The application has a text field to implement ajax for search functionality in the database .I have written a servlet to make the database connection and fire the querry.
Ajax implementation in a js file is called on every keyup event in the jsp file,and
a call is given to the servlet from the ajax methode.
The function in the js file is as follows:-

I think I'm not able to access the servlet properly.
what changes do i need to make in the we.xml file ?
and what should be the url to be passed.
Please provide me a sloution to the above problem as it is very urgent else if anybody is aware of a readymade JSF componet with search functionality freely available please let me know.

the status 500 generally means either HTTP server internal error or that execution of CGI script or servlet aborted with error.
It can be reasonably supposed that the request reaches the servlet, ie. that "url" value points to some existing servlet, otherwise most probably the status value would be 404.
To test that the servlet is working i'd try to access it using some simple html page with form like this (with {BASE_URL} replaced by real value):

<input type=text name=firstName>
<input type=Submit>

Upload file in clustered environment- Very Urgent

Hi,
My requirement is to upload a file onto the WebServer and also list out the file names on the front end and provide a funcionality to delete them from the server.
Environment Details:
-Product: WebSphere Portal
-Type - Clustered Enviroment with 2 nodes
-Framework: JSF
The problem I am facing here is:
1) I login to the application using a common URL: Say abc.com/wps/portal
2) I dont know which node I am logged into, it can be either Primary(X1) or Secondary(X2).
3) I click on the browse button and select a file and click on the Upload button. The file is uploaded successfully on say primary node X1.
4) I can at that time read the name of the file and display it on screen and also select and delete it. But if I log off and login again and say I am now redirected to secondary node, I am not able to read the name of the file I uploaded as it is stored on the primary node.
Can some body provide me a solutions to this.
What I can think of is , While uploading the file, I will check if I am on the primary node or secondary node and Upload the file only on one node rather than uploading them on both. Say uploading only on primary node X1, Now if I am logged into primary I can just mention the directory name and upload it.
But I f am on the secondary node I need to upload the file on the primary node using URL connection.
Can some body tell me the feasibility of this approach ?? Also how do I upload a file on a remote machine(Logged into the secondary but putting the file onto the primary node.) ???
Please help me this very very urgent.

Hi!
I would simply use a network share which is accessible from both nodes as storage. This way you don't have to care to which server the file is uploaded too, because both share the same filesystem.
If you are on windows, simply share a folder and access it from both nodes. In Linux I'd suggest using samba & mount, on solaris use share & mount.
Another approach would be to use a database as storage.
