Arch on Bay Trail Tablet cannot find Sdcard

Hello fellow Archers!! I am new to the Arch Linux Forums (or any forum for that matter), and I hope I've put this post in the proper place.
I've been using Arch for about 2 years now, and I'm absolutely in love with it. Every chance I get, I try to run Arch on any device I have. This last Christmas, I received a Toshiba Encore Mini (Bay Trail) tablet from my stepdad and when I found out that it had an x86 processor, my heart skipped a beat. I knew what had to be done.
After a month of research and fun, I have successfully been able to boot Arch on this tablet. I am using the stock 3.18.5-1 kernel (latest as of this post) and GRUB for the bootloader. Arch currently resides on a USB stick, and I've been able to move GRUB into the EFI system partition on the internal memory of the tablet. I've setup GRUB to be able to dual boot Windows and Arch, but of course the Arch entry only works when I have the stick plugged in.
Although I've been successful, I've still had some issues. The internal memory in the tab is 14GB, 4GB of which belongs to the Windows recovery partition. I'd love to be able to boot Arch on this tab without having to plug in the stick through OTG, as it is susceptible to damage and prevents me from being able to charge, but 10GB total space is not really optimal for what I want to use this tablet for. Luckily, there's an external microSD slot on the side. I bought a 32GB microSD to put in there and I wanted to make it my /home partition. Alas, when I booted into Arch and got ready to add the card to my fstab, it wasn't there! Here's the output of lsblk, lspci, and lsusb:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/989 … 094036.jpg
sda is the USB stick and mmcblk0 is the internal memory. The PNY in lsusb is the USB stick as well, the Logitech Unifying Receiver is my wireless keyboard/mouse, and the Genesys device is my USB hub.
I checked GRUB as well, and at the GRUB shell, ls turns up with:
(hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,gpt4) (hd1,gpt3) (hd1,gpt2) (hd1,gpt1) (hd2) (hd3)
hd2 and hd3 are blank and GRUB won't let me set them as root. I have also formatted and used the microSd card before in Windows, so I believe it should at least show up with a partition, so I don't think hd2 or hd3 could be the card.
So, my question is, what should I do to get my sdcard recognized by the tablet? Windows sees it just fine, even in Win10 Technical Preview.
The tablet is a Bay Trail device and uses only 32-bit UEFI for booting. It has no BIOS/CSM support. Along with the PCI bus it sports an i2c bus and an sdio bus. My guess is that it has something to do with GRUB or the UEFI firmware, but I decided it would be better to ask some experts.
Any help would be dearly appreciated! And thank you for your time!

Thanks for your reply. And you are absolutely right, the wireless card is SDIO. It happens to be a Realtek RTL8723BS.
Here's the dmesg output:

Also, I installed i2c-tools, lm_sensors, and lshw a few minutes ago. They bring up nothing about an i2c bus or an SDIO bus.
I loaded up Device Manager on Windows and it lists all the controllers. It looks like the microSD is on the SDIO bus. Here's a picture:

Again, thanks for your time!

  • Nokia N800 Tablet - Cannot find a format which wil...

    I am trying to play a movie on my N800 Tablet PC. I've tried all types of video extensions, but, continue to get error messages. Can anyone recommend a software program that will convert a dvd to a file that the N800 will recognize. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to use this on my vacation.
    Thanks so much!
    Cheryl

    Hi chercom
    You could use video converter such as Slysoft http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html or YASA:http://www.yasasoft.com/yasadvdtomp4/ which are just two examples.
    Find something that you can try before you buy, you are usually limited to converting clip of a few minutes in length but you can check the results before purchase.

  • Sky+ android app cannot find Sky HD box

    Can anyone help?  Since switching to BT and using the Home Hub 3 my Sky+ app on my android tablet cannot find my Sky HD box on my network.  The Sky HD box has a wired connection (via a switch and Home Plug).  The tablet obviously connects wirelessly.  Sky Tech Support cannot offer any solution.  The Zeebox app running on the same tablet can connect and switch channels reliably so it is not a physical connection problem.  Very frustrating......

    Same problem with my iPad, using a Home hub 3. I have also noticed that after time my Airplay printer cannot be found. Only solutions I have found are I) to reset the Sky box internet connection(works sometimes) or ii) reboot the router ( seems to consistently work). Very frustrating and given it is happening with two different pieces of kit, clearly a router problem.

    I don't see any messages of loading nvidia ("NVRM") or nouveau. Are you sure that you have installed a module that is compatible with your current kernel?
    You'll also need to patch your ACPI handle or the nouveau/nvidia driver will refuse to load at all, see https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bbswitch/issues/2 (this is specific to some machines, your Lenovo G580 machine included)

    I am trying to run steam using my own runtime libraries, however I'm missing libcrypt.so.11

    In accordance with this solved topic for a similar issue, I have ensured that options=('staticlibs') is present in PKGBUILD:
    options=('!strip' '!emptydirs' 'staticlibs')
    I have tried re downloading and compiling all the src but the same issue occurs.

    linux-ck-headers 3.12.9-3
    nvidia-ck 331.38-2
    xdm-arch-theme 2.3.1-3

    Still haven't resolved this. However, I did see that there is more information in /home/myusername/dir-where-i-extract-aur-tarballs/libx32-glibc/src/glibc-build/config.log:
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc
    /usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libc.so when searching for -lc

    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lc
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc
    collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
    My guess is that I need a compatible libc.so so that /usr/bin/ld can create the links using gcc.

  • GRUB Cannot Find chainload

    I am currently trying to dual boot Windows 8 and Arch Linux. I have Windows 8 installed on my first boot device and Arch installed as per the Beginner's Wiki to my second boot device (both SSD's, sdb and sdc, respectively).
    lsblk:
    sda [RAID controlled by dedicated card]
    sda1  128M
    sda2  3.7T
    sdb
    sdb1  300M
    sdb2  100M
    sdb3  128M
    sdb4  232.4G
    sdc
    sdc1  500M
    sdc2  20G /
    sdc3  10G /var
    sdc4  200G /home
    sdc5  235.3G  (spare)
    Everything appears to be installed and configured correctly, and I have installed GRUB and gummiboot after GRUB did not work. This was partly do to me having to change some bios settings so that secure boot was disabled, or at least set to "Other OS". At an earlier point I actually wiped my /boot and re-installed Arch (which I believe only replaced missing files) and re-installed grub and re-generated the configuration file.
    Now, the GRUB menu shows properly on boot with my Arch and Windows entries and I am able to boot into Arch fine. However, now when I select MS Windows, Grub tells me that it cannot find the chainload command. Is it supposed to be just 'chain', perhaps?
    In my /etc/grub.d/40_custom file I added two menu entries, one for Arch Linux and one for MS Windows.
    menuentry "Arch Linux" {
        set root=(hd2,2)
        linux /boot/vmlinuz-linux
        initrd /boot/initrd.img
    # This was added as per the advice at: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … gpt-system
    menuentry "MS Windows" {
        insmod part_gpt
        insmod search_fs_uuid
        insmod ntfs
        insmod chain
        search --fs-uuid 3A781C97781C544B --set=root --hint-bios=hd1,gpt4 --hint-efi=hd1,gpt4 --hint-baremetal=ahci1,gpt4
        chainload (${root})/Windows/Boot/EFI/bootmgfw.efi
    What could this be?
    Thank you for any and all suggestions!!

    I'm not opposed to gummiboot, like I said it was my first choice, but as I encountered problems I took the guide advice and tried GRUB. If I can get GRUB to work and it increases my understanding, I would be all for it. I'm definitely familiar with Linux, but I don't have extensive experience with GRUB and EFI.
    What is the best way to use gummiboot? Uninstall GRUB or install them side-by-side?
    Here is the output of parted -l:

    And here is the output of lsblk:

  • Random cannot find root device at boot

    Every so often when I boot my arch install I get the error saying that it cannot find my root device.  After a reboot sometimes everything is fine other times it will will repeat.  It seems to be about a 40-60 chance that the error will occur.  This same issue is also happening with a co-worker.  I began to notice this issue when I upgraded my laptop with an SSD which my co-worker also has.  I am beginning to wonder if it is related to the SSD because I have not had this issue until then.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Welcome to the Arch Linux forums.
    In order to get proper support for your issues, you need to be much more explicit about your problems.  An inability to find the root device can be caused by all kinds of things.  So simply saying that you switched to an SSD and started to experience these problems is really not anything to go on.  You need to also give a description of how your system is actually set up.  That is, how is it partitioned?  Is it the only OS on the machine?  Do you use LVM, mdadm, Luks/dm-crypt, btrfs, etc?
    These forums are quite active and there are all kinds of people here who are willing to help.  But you have to help us help you.  We cannot see your machine, and the very nature of Arch Linux brings about vast differences in how each individual machine is configured.

    Why my ggate showing unable to find the executable. I am able to see the executable server in the ggate home.In addition to Steve's reply, note that the broken installation may actually be on the target system, not the (local) source system. Unable to find "server" may mean that your source GG installation is unable to send remote trails to the target system, because "server" can't be found on the target. When checking the target gg installation, also be sure you've configured your source system to send to the correct mgr port & correct remote host. You might be sending data to an older (perhaps (partially) uninstalled) version of GG.

  • [SOLVED] Installing on ZFS root: "ZFS: cannot find bootfs" on boot.

    I have been experimenting with ZFS filesystems on external HDDs for some time now to get more comfortable with using ZFS in the hopes of one day reinstalling my system on a ZFS root.
    Today, I tried installing a system on an USB external HDD, as my first attempt to install on ZFS (I wanted to try in a safe, disposable environment before I try this on my main system).
    My partition configuration (from gdisk):
    Command (? for help): p
    Disk /dev/sdb: 3907024896 sectors, 1.8 TiB
    Logical sector size: 512 bytes
    Disk identifier (GUID): 2FAE5B61-CCEF-4E1E-A81F-97C8406A07BB
    Partition table holds up to 128 entries
    First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 3907024862
    Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
    Total free space is 0 sectors (0 bytes)
    Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
    1 34 2047 1007.0 KiB EF02 BIOS boot partition
    2 2048 264191 128.0 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
    3 264192 3902828543 1.8 TiB BF00 Solaris root
    4 3902828544 3907024862 2.0 GiB 8300 Linux filesystem
    Partition #1 is for grub, obviously. Partition #2 is an ext2 partition that I mount on /boot in the new system. Partition #3 is where I make my ZFS pool.
    Partition #4 is an ext4 filesystem containing another minimal Arch system for recovery and setup purposes. GRUB is installed on the other system on partition #4, not in the new ZFS system.
    I let grub-mkconfig generate a config file from the system on partition #4 to boot that. Then, I manually edited the generated grub.cfg file to add this menu entry for my ZFS system:
    menuentry 'ZFS BOOT' --class arch --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
    load_video
    set gfxpayload=keep
    insmod gzio
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod ext2
    set root='hd0,gpt2'
    echo 'Loading Linux core repo kernel ...'
    linux /vmlinuz-linux zfs=bootfs zfs_force=1 rw quiet
    echo 'Loading initial ramdisk ...'
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    My ZFS configuration:
    # zpool list
    NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT
    External2TB 1.81T 6.06G 1.81T 0% 1.00x ONLINE -
    # zpool status :(

    scan: none requested
    config:

    External2TB/PacmanCache 5.77G 1.77T 5.77G /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    External2TB/Swap 8.50G 1.78T 20K -
    The reason for the above configuration is that after I get this system to work, I want to install a second system in the same zpool on a different dataset, and have them share a pacman cache.
    GRUB "boots" successfully, in that it loads the kernel and the initramfs as expected from the 2nd GPT partition. The problem is that the kernel does not load the ZFS:
    ERROR: device '' not found. Skipping fsck.
    ZFS: Cannot find bootfs.
    ERROR: Failed to mount the real root device.
    Bailing out, you are on your own. Good luck.
    and I am left in busybox in the initramfs.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Also, here is my /etc/fstab in the new system:
    # External2TB/ArchSystemMain
    #External2TB/ArchSystemMain / zfs rw,relatime,xattr 0 0
    # External2TB/PacmanCache
    #External2TB/PacmanCache /var/cache/pacman/pkg zfs rw,relatime,xattr 0 0
    UUID=8b7639e2-c858-4ff6-b1d4-7db9a393578f /boot ext4 rw,relatime 0 2
    UUID=7a37363e-9adf-4b4c-adfc-621402456c55 none swap defaults 0 0
    I also tried to boot using "zfs=External2TB/ArchSystemMain" in the kernel options, since that was the more logical way to approach my intention of having multiple systems on different datasets. It would allow me to simply create separate grub menu entries for each, with different boot datasets in the kernel parameters. I also tried setting the mount points to "legacy" and uncommenting the zfs entries in my fstab above. That didn't work either and produced the same results, and that was why I decided to try to use "bootfs" (and maybe have a script for switching between the systems by changing the ZFS bootfs and mountpoints before reboot, reusing the same grub menuentry).
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Sounds like a zpool.cache issue. I'm guessing your zpool.cache inside your arch-chroot is not up to date. So on boot the ZFS hook cannot find the bootfs. At least, that's what I assume the issue is, because of this line:
    ERROR: device '' not found. Skipping fsck.
    If your zpool.cache was populated, it would spit out something other than an empty string.
    Some assumptions:
    - You're using the ZFS packages provided by demizer (repository or AUR).
    - You're using the Arch Live ISO or some version of it.
    On cursory glance your configuration looks good. But verify anyway. Here are the steps you should follow to make sure your zpool.cache is correct and up to date:
    Outside arch-chroot:
    - Import pools (not using '-R') and verify the mountpoints.
    - Make a copy of the /etc/zfs/zpool.cache before you export any pools. Again, make a copy of the /etc/zfs/zpool.cache before you export any pools. The reason for this is once you export a pool the /etc/zfs/zpool.cache gets updated and removes any reference to the exported pool. This is likely the cause of your issue, as you would have an empty zpool.cache.
    - Import the pool containing your root filesystem using the '-R' flag, and mount /boot within.
    - Make sure to copy your updated zpool.cache to your arch-chroot environment.
    Inside arch-chroot:
    - Make sure your bootloader is configured properly (i.e. read 'mkinitcpio -H zfs').
    - Use the 'udev' hook and not the 'systemd' one in your mkinitcpio.conf. The zfs-utils package does not have a ported hook (as of 0.6.2_3.12.6-1).
    - Update your initramfs.
    Outside arch-chroot:
    - Unmount filesystems.
    - Export pools.
    - Reboot.
    Inside new system:
    - Make sure to update the hostid then rebuild your initramfs. Then you can drop the 'zfs_force=1'.
    Good luck. I enjoy root on ZFS myself. However, I wouldn't recommend swap on ZFS. Despite what the ZoL tracker says, I still ran into deadlocks on occasion (as of a month ago). However, I cannot say definitely the cause of the issue; but it resolved when I moved swap off ZFS to a dedicated partition.

  • Jdk6 - cannot find symbol

    Hi,
    I've just encountered a problem compiling with sun jdk6, that I've never met before.
    I've the class Arch that uses objects of the class Node.
    I compile the Node class without any problem ( javac -cp "../lib/*" it/bcdm/di/core/Node.java); but while compiling the Arch class after that, I get
    cannot find symbol
    symbol : class Node
    location: class it.bcdm.di.core.Arch
         private Node da = null;
         ^
    Either the Node and the Arch class stay within the same folder it/bcdm/di/core.
    I've already tried to include within the classpath, the path of the folder containing the file Node.class, in this way:
    javac -cp "../lib/*;it/bcdm/di/core/*" it/bcdm/di/core/Arch.java
    and I've also already tried this:
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/pathOfMyProject/it/bcdm/di/core/
    and also
    export PATH=$PATH:/pathOfMyProject/it/bcdm/di/core/
    but unsuccessful...

    have you any idea to solve this compilation error?

    warnerja wrote:
    masijade, I think you might be confused as to what the OP is doing with that asterisk. As yawmark shed some light on it earlier, the wildcard lets the user conveniently include all .jar files it finds in the /lib directory, as if the user did this:
    -cp /lib/one.jar;/lib/two.jar;/lib/three.jar
    (assuming the /lib directory contains one.jar, two.jar, and three.jar)Yes, I know, but the op is complaining that he just compiled "Node", then by compiling "Arch" it could not find "Node", which means it won't be in those jars, anyway. (Edit: If he had used a -d option, the classes would have been in that directory, but then the "*", I believe, would hinder, not help, at least in respect to those newly compiled classes.)
    Also, OP, if you are not specifiying a -d option, then you also need to include "." on the classpath, as the classfiles will appear "in place" (i.e. right alongside the corresponding java files when compiled using the above command), which means that "." must also be on the classpath (as that is the "root" for the newly compiled classes).
    Edit Again, Although I will admit I hadn't remembered about the "*" being a new feature in 6 (though now that it has been mentioned as such I do remember having read about it, once).

  • Cannot find wifi-menu command

    I have a lenovo T430 laptop.
    I made my usb stick into a bootable medium using YUMI.
    Then I boot into arch linux 2013.05.01 from usb.
    But I simply cannot find the wifi-menu command.
    So what might be the reason for this ?  Thanks a lot

  • I downloaded Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, started using it but cannot find Show Fluid Grid Layout Guides button, Resize LI.link sizing handle and 'move up a Row' arrow. Where can I find them?

    I downloaded Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, started using it but cannot find Show Fluid Grid Layout Guides button, Resize LI.link sizing handle and 'move up a Row' arrow. Where can I find them?

    You have the latest version (CC 2014.1 or 2014.1.1) in which the interface condenses Design View with Live View buttons in normal layouts.  See screenshot.
    However, in FGLayouts, Live View is the only option which poses some editing problems and has been highly criticized.
    Is there any way to display the Design View in fluid grid pages?

    You can disable this restriction by adding an X to the FGLayout CSS.

    Having said that, it might just  be simpler to revert to an earlier version.  Log-in to Creative Cloud Desktop app.  Go to Filters & Versions > Previous Version.  See screenshot.

  • UfdbGuard pkgbuild fails - cannot find system rc init.d

    Here's the PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=ufdbguard
    pkgver=1.18
    arch=('i686')
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="The best URL database and internet filter"
    url="http://www.urlfilterdb.com/"
    license=('GPL')
    depends=(openssl bzip2)
    makedepends=()
    conflicts=()
    replaces=()
    backup=()
    install=()
    source=(http://www.urlfilterdb.com/download/free/ufdbGuard-latest.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('1e097e1aa6b21134cef2bc82f86a8e2a')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/
    mv ufdbGuard-$pkgver ufdbguard-$pkgver
    cd ufdbguard-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ufdb-user=jason \
    --with-ufdb-config=${pkgdir}/etc/squid \
    --with-ufdb-logdir=${pkgdir}/var/log/ufdbguard \
    --with-ufdb-dbhome=${pkgdir}/var/blacklists \
    --with-ufdb-images_dir=${pkgdir}/usr/share/ufdbguard/images
    make || return 1
    make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install || return 1
    So the problem is this message when I try to build it:
    make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jason/ufdbguard/src/ufdbguard-1.18/src'
    ./install_etcfiles.sh /home/jason/ufdbguard/pkg/etc/squid /home/jason/ufdbguard/pkg/usr/bin

    make: *** [install.etc] Error 2

    Aborting...
    I've looked at the install_etcfiles.sh script and the problem appears to be there. I probably need to figure out how to patch that script, but I don't know where to begin.

    1. It's very frustrating: --with-ufdb-user=jason
    Can you read it out from system variables/command ?
    2.
    Please run install_etcfiles.sh manually and specify the directory
    Please try it, if the help message tells you tihs Of course archlinux hasn't got /etc/init.d/, but /etc/rc.d/, BSD like init scripts.
    3. A cleaner PKGBUILD for it:
