Archive engine got lost...how to restart it without shut down database?

I have a database with Oracle 8i on IBM AIX 5.
The archive engine ora_arc0_<SID> is down and need to restart it.
How can I start archive engine without shutdown and restart the database?

Is there any way to set the database to archive log mode before shutting down the database and when the database shuts and starts, the database should be automatically in archive log mode?
because we can not shutdown the database in weekdays and we have system reboot on weekend and we are not here on that day. So is there a way to set the database in archive log at the memory level so that when the database reboots, it should automatically start in archive log mode.

It is not being processed by sqlplus, it is being processed by the windows command processor. Just like the cmd.exe. Each line is read by the command processor and executed accordingly. So ....
cd \the command processor calls 'cd' , and passes the value '\' to do with as it sees fit. 'cd' then changes the current directory of the session to whatever is indicated by the passed parameter. in this case, that value is '\' , so the resulting current directory is the base (root, in *nix terms) of the current drive. When 'cd' has finished, it returns control to the command processor, who then reads the next line ....
sqlplus / as sysdbathe command processor calls sqlplus.exe and passes it the command line parms '/ as sysdba' to do with as it (sqlplus) sees fit. sqlplus does whatever it does with what it has been given In this case it tries to connect to whatever local database is indicated by the value of ORACLE_SID, then waits for more input. Whenever sqlplus exits (how does it know to exit?) it returns control to the command processor, who then reads the next line ....

that is the reason I am figuring out whether there is an alternate way.yes but you have to use the proper technique. And since you are building this into a production stop/start without testing the actual stop/start commands ... what do you suppose will be the outcome if something goes wrong?

Restarting AdminServer without shutting down Managed Server

Using Weblogic 10.3.5 on OEL v8
To clear some old stats I need to bounce the Admin Server running on port 7001. Would I have to stop the Managed server as well (my applications) for this? Or can I bounce Admin Server without stopping my application?

To navigate to that folder, open the folder "Library" directly on your Macintosh HD, then inside the Library folder go to Application Support, then iPhoto. Is there anything installed?

Satellite T130 keeps restarting instead of shutting down

Just bought a refurbished Toshiba Satellite T130 laptop pre-installed with Windows 7, and since we got it, it has had a problem shutting down.
When I press Shut Down, it shuts down ok, all the lights go off as if it just shut down, and then a couple of seconds later, it starts up again.
I can't seem to find the issue here, sometimes it restarts fully into windows, and other times it turns on and hangs without turning on the display etc.
I have tried to update the BIOS, reinstall windows on a second partition, even reinstall every driver from the toshiba website.
It should also be noted that when I put the system to sleep, it puts the PC to sleep and then a couple of seconds later, it restarts, bringing up the good old "an error occurred, would you like to start in save mode, start windows normally" etc.
When entering hibernation mode, it hibernates just find, and then turns back on again...
I've been reading many support forums and none of the solutions worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Im not Satellite T130 owner but the same issue I noticed on my Satellite U500. So I checked the BIOS for following options:
-Wake up on LAN
-Wake up on Keyboard
-USB Sleep & Charge
I disabled all these options and restarted the notebook. After this I noticed that the notebook shuts down properly. :)
Furthermore if you have external devices connected like mouse, keyboard, printer, etc. Remove them all and test it again.

You should see the Firefox menu bar on Mac as that is controlled by the Mac OS and have Firefox > Quit.

I disabled Boot on LAN, disabled Wake-On-PME in BIOS, and checked my control panel power settings, but it still restarts instead of shut down. I just got this motherboard and it started doing this ever since I installed it. I did reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows after I installed the motherboard. I'm trying to avoid opening the case again, I don't think I flipped the power switch and reset switch because when I push the reset button or use Start menu's restart, the computer still restarts. I guess I'll double check it again...
for the "clear cmos and load defaults in the bios", this is a brand new motherboard, shouldn't it already have the default settings? and what do I need to do to reinstall the mainboard's chipset drivers?

10.6 notice to restart computer when shutting down

Twice now I got this notice when in process of shutting down computer that it tells me to press and hold power button and reboot. Both time I do this I get back to the desktop and then it tells me to send a report to Apple which I do, ideas on problem?

Ok, I have gotten that message again about having to "Press and hold the power button and reboot" and McAfee has been removed, I hadn't had the message for a few days until now.
I've noticed my mac is taking a long time to boot up lately too (noticed this before installing SL) taking like 70 seconds before I can use it.
I lot of times when I do something I get the "colour ball thingy" popping up a lot and hanging for a length of time before I can continue. (also happened on Leopard and continues on SL). Never had this before. My Mac isn't as snappy as it should be, do I need a new one? It's 15 months old.
I've had photoshop CS3 crash a couple of times and Safari 4 crashing several times. (only since SL)

IMac restarts instead of shutting down

Hello,
I have a 2009 iMac 24" running 10.6.2. When I select shutdown from the shutdown menu it asks if I want to shutdown and then after selecting yes it starts the shutdown process. After shutting down it immediately restarts. When selecting shutdown from the login screen, it shuts down correctly.
-I've zapped my PRAM
-I did a SMC reset
-I've unselected restart after power failure
-I have a wireless USB mouse connected
-I have Apple's wireless keyboard
Any thoughts?

If it does not happen in the new account (you should try it a few times to make sure), then the cause is usually one of two things, and there is probably not anything wrong with the overall system.
First is a background process that runs in your normal account. Check System Preferences Accounts pane +Login Items+ tab. Remove anything there that you no longer need to have running. Then, with what's left, remove one at a time and test to see if it makes a difference; make sure you note what you removed (and where it is located) so that you can put it back if it was not the cause.
Second are user preference settings. In this case, this is a bit harder to trouble-shoot, because I can't think of any particular user preference file that would make a Mac restart instead of shut down.
If the problem does not happen in a new account, and you can't determine the exact cause, one thing you could do is create a new user account for ongoing permanent use, and transfer your user data from your current account to the new account. Eventually, once everything is working fine, abandon your current account.

SHUTDOWN is not a SQL statement but a SQL*Plus command . You cannot use SHUTDOWN in PL/SQL.

Satellite A120-151: How can I stop it shutting down automatically?

This may sound a bit daft, but I like to leave my A120-151 on overnight for large downloads, but in the morning it's shut itself down (I think it's hibernate mode) normally about an hour after I've gone to bed judging by how much has downloaded.
I've adjusted the power settings, but nothing seems to work.
Any advice on what settings need to be adjusted would be appreciated.

how did you adjust your powersaver settings and after how many hours the machine shuts down itself? Would be interesting to know maybe you missed something to adjust or activate.
Are you sure youve activated the profile where the settings for "no-shutdown" :) are stored?
You can also try to adjust some powersaver settings (if available) in the HW Settings which can be reached trough the Toshiba console, just have an eye on that tool.
And just another question: When you change some settings in the powersaver are they executed how you configured them. (E.g. turn the display brightness down, time to hibernatiion, etc...)

Never had problems with this add-on with Firefox until I downloaded Firefox 4.0. I can disable, re-start, enable,re-start, and it works fine. The same scenario holds true if I uninstall and then re-install add-on.

Just a guess, but I wonder if you have some application or process hanging up that's stopping it from shutting down? You might try closing each application individually and see if this helps.
