I added the resync catalog command to the backup. But I am still getting this error. What is happening? I have the control_file_record_keep_time = 14 in the paramater file. Do I need to change this to something greater?
nullThe error message is pointing to an inconsistency between what RMAN "thinks"
should be there and what is in control files.
There are a few things you can try to do
1. Compare V$LOG, V$LOGFILE, etc. Some of these views are based on control files
2. Shutdown and restart the instance.
This may help in synchronizing control files
with internal structures.
3. Trace RMAN session using oradebug and even 10046 to find out what it is doing
4. Dump entire controlfile to trace using
alter session set events 'immediate trace name controlf level 10';
Or dump loghist only
alter session set events 'immediate trace name loghist level 4';
This will dump 2**level entries.
5. Re-create controlfiles with CREATE CONTROLFILE

ORA-19571: archived-log recid 118360 stamp not found in control file - help
Hi
Every backup I do I am getting an error like below at the bottom :, every backup I do, it's complaaining about DIFFERENT archive log.
ORA-19571: archived-log recid 118360 stamp 705446770 not found in control file.
I have set keep control file info to 14 days, my retention is 7 days in RMAN, so I don't know why it's complaining, below is the full log.
It seeems to be having problems with archive logs that have just been generated while it's doing the backup I think??

I am using an recovery catalog, so should I be connected to the recovery catalog Or control file to do a cross check backup, also when it's doing the backup do u recon it can't fing archivelog in controlfile file as it's not done a resync, should I force it to do a resync after a backup then backup the archive logs??? I really don't want to bounce the db as it's 24/7

Archive logs are missing in hot backup
Hi All,
We are using the following commands to take hot backup of our database. Hot backup is fired by "backup" user on Linux system.
=======================
rman target / nocatalog <<EOF
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '$backup_dir/$date/%F';
run {
allocate channel oem_backup_disk1 type disk format '$backup_dir/$date/%U';
#--Switch archive logs for all threads
sql 'alter system archive log current';
backup as COMPRESSED BACKUPSET database include current controlfile;
#--Switch archive logs for all threads
sql 'alter system archive log current';
#--Backup Archive logs and delete what we've backedup
backup as COMPRESSED BACKUPSET archivelog all not backed up delete all input;
release channel oem_backup_disk1;
allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
delete noprompt obsolete device type disk;
release channel;
exit
EOF
=======================
Due to which after command (used 2 times) "sql 'alter system archive log current';" I see the following lines in alert log 2 times. Because of this all the online logs are not getting archived (Missing 2 logs per day), the backup taken is unusable when restoring. I am worried about this. I there any to avoid this situation.

In the first case, just specify SCN or find the actual log file and speficy log sequence, instead of time. In the latter case, remove the old restored files or speficy noresume.

RMAN: How to apply Archive Logs after recoverying of all physical files
Hi;
I am using RMAN Oracle10g; my test database has being corrupted. I have already taken 0 level backup through this command
run {
allocate channel c1 type disk;
backup incremental level 0 tag = Test_Weekly_database format 'O:\rman\backup\Full_Weekly_%d_%s_%p_%t'(database);
release channel c1;
configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to 'O:\rman\backup\Auto_Ctrl_weekly_%F';
allocate channel c1 type disk;
sql 'alter system archive log current';
BACKUP tag = Test_Weekly_Arch ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-7' format 'O:\rman\backup\Archive_weekly_%d_%s_%p_%t';
DELETE ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-7';
release channel c1;
After backing up I inserted few records in TEST123 table. And switch current log file.
Then my database has been corrupted. Now I have last 0 level backup (RMAN) and archive logs files on OS level.
I am recovering my database with the following commands; but archive logs have not being applied. And my inserted records were not presented in TEST123 table.
Kindly guide me
SQL> startup nomount

Hello all,
Using Oracle 10g R2 ( 10.2.4.0) under UNIX Sun Solaris 10 , I have two rman backup types
1-L0 backup
2-L1 Backup ( Incremental cummulative)
Facts:
-Due to space pressure on archived log destination I'm trying to get less archived files possible under the archived log fs thus at any given time the archived log files destination contains archived log files aged no more than 22hours.
* The backup runs each day at 4PM and there is custom script that remove and compressed archived log files ( out of backup jobs windows) from midnight until 3:45PM
* From the above removal schedule task L0 or L1 backup will always have 24 hours worth of archived log files available during the backup.
-The Backup files Windows retention period is 22 hours meaning that each backup type L0 or L1 removes previous backup files aged more than 22hours.
-Tracking file is enabled
Target:
Knowing that our backup retention windows is 22hours.
Our next goal is to get less than 2 hours from 24 hours of archived log files available when L0 or L1 backup.
Would this affect L1 backup? and how?
Thank in advance for your response

AlexI'm not sure what you are talking about with Backup files Windows retention period ... 22 hours".
I don't know what you mean by "Our next goal is to get less than 2 hours from 24 hours of archived log files available when L0 or L1 backup."
If you are not taking your database backups with rman you are on shaky ground. The principles are simple. To recover your database from a failure, you will need to start with an L0 backup. The rman RESTORE command will then restore individual blocks from any applicable and available L1 backups. You would follow that with a RECOVER command, that would attempt to apply all necessary redo from available archivelogs. If the necessary archivelogs have been deleted, rman will attempt to restore them from a backup. You can use rman to backup AND DELETE archivelog files to keep the archivelog destination cleaned out.
I take an L0 backup once a week, an L1 the other 6 days, and archivelogs twice a day. The only time I've had a problem with the archivelog dest filling up is when some buggy code that has a loop goes into production and starts flooding redo.
Exactly how are you taking your database backups? If you are not using rman, then you are already on shaky ground. -
Where to keep the archived log in a cluster environment.
Hi
Where it is good to keep the archive log file. on shared storage or on local instance.
thanks.Where it is good to keep the archive log file. on shared storage or on local instance.
It is always good to keep the archivelog files at shared storage location. This location is accessible to all instances, so in case of failure you can recover the database from any of the instances.

ShishirHello Shishir,
It looks as if the issue is with the permissions of saparch directory,
Check the permissions of oracle/QBS/saparch/archQBS and /oracle/QBS/920_64 oracle_profile /oracle/QBS/920_64/dbs/initQBS.ora directories and compare with the production server
Also make sure that initQBS.ora is present in the location specified

TaohikoHi Taohiko
Have you made backup of all archived redo log files? If so, why this one was disappeared?
Have you applied all archived redo log files before that required archived redo log file?
Please try to recover the database using the following command:
RMAN> RESTORE DATABASE;
RMAN> RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE 29166;
RMAN>ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS; -

Incomplete Recovery Fails using Full hot backup & Archive logs !!
Hello DBA's !!
I am doing on Recovery scenario where I have taken One full hot backup of my Portal Database (EPR) and Restored it on New Test Server. Also I restored Archive logs from last full hot backup for next 6 days. Also I restored the latest Control file (binary) to their original locations. Now, I started the recovery scenario as follows....
1) Installed Oracle 10.2.0.2 compatible with restored version of oracle.
2) Configured tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, sqlnet.ora with hostname of Test server.
3) Restored all Hot backup files from Tape to Test Server.
4) Restored all archive logs from tape to Test server.
5) Restored Latest Binary Control file from Tape to Test Server.
6) Now, Started recovery using following command from SQL prompt.
SQL> recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
7) Open database after Recovery Completion using RESETLOGS option.
Now in Above scenario I completed steps upto 5) successfully. But when I execute the step 6) the recovery completes with Warning : Recovery completed but OPEN RESETLOGS may throw error " system file needs more recovery to be consistent " . Please find the following snapshot ....
ORA-00279: change 7001816252 generated at 01/13/2008 12:53:05 needed for thread

alter database open resetlogs
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oracle/EPR/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1'
Let me know What should be the reason behind recovery failure !
Note : I tried to Open the database using Last Full Hot Backup only & not applying any archives. Then Database Opens successfully. It means my Database Installation & Configuration is OK !
Please Let me know why my Incomplete Recovery using Archive logs Goes Fail ?
Atul Patil.oh you made up a new thread so here again:
there is nothing wrong.
You restored your backup, archives etc.
you started your recovery and oracle applyed all archives but the archive
'/oracle/EPR/oraarch/1_9624_601570270.dbf'
does not exist because it represents your current online redo log file and that is not present.
the recovery process cancels by itself.
the solution is:
restart your recovery process with:
recover database until cancel using backup controlfile
and when oracle suggests you '/oracle/EPR/oraarch/1_9624_601570270.dbf'
type cancel!
now you should be able to open your database with open resetlogs. -
Hi
I am restoring a hot backup taken through RMAN using following commands:
configure controlfile autobackup on;
BACKUP DATABASE ;
BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT;
Now I am going to restore that using following commands:
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
But it goes fine till restore database. At recover database I get following errors:
archived log for thread 1 with sequence 2461 is already on disk as file /u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area/XE/onlinelog/o1_mf_1_8fbs9bvt_.log

I have checked the backup folder and there are only empty date wise folders under archivedlog folders.

I don't mind if some data is lost. Will be really thankful if someone can help me get my database open;
HabibThey way you are trying to recover will try to recover up to the last know SCN. Try to do a point in time recover up to a few minutes before the database was shutdown or crashed.
Try something like this
run{
set until time "to_date('2013-09-11:00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss')";
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
