Archive mode in destination database for own way stream

Hi Experts,
I set up a one way stream for oracle 10GR2 in window 2003.
I know that i need to turn on archive mode for capture and propagation in source database machine.
Do we need to turn on archive mode on in destination database machine? It is only running apply process.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Jim

No Jim, If you are using one way stream replication, that it doesn't need archiving to be enabled at destination site.
Only the site from where changes are being captures need archiving to be on.

  • How to reload archived data into SAP database for object FI_DOCUMNT

    Hi..could any one plz let me know how can i reload the archived data  which is on third party storage into sap database back. The archived data is related to FI_DOCUMNT. We don't have the Reload program for this object. The requirement is : Some of the FI documents are archived before being cleared. So, we want to reload the archived data back to SAP database and then do some modifications.
    Please tell me how this is possible..thanks a lot in advance.
    It's urgent.
    Thanks,
    Shamim

    Thanks Mylene. I've already gone through the same note..i was just looking out for the new standard program or any one have created any new program for the same. I think it's better we must wait for SAP to launch its reload program or else it's not possible to reload the archived data for this object.
    Thanks

  • Archive mode

    After I execute Begin Archive command for a cube...can I change any database properties???
    I tried adding comments and it gets updated??
    What are the type of changes which it will not accept when the cube is in archive mode..
    Data updations should not be allowed for sure..!

    First, why would you make any changes while you are backing up the database. When you execute the Begin Archive command you are backing up the database in the state right before you execute the command.
    Placing the database in read-only (or archive) mode protects the database from updates during the backup process.
    After you perform the backup, return the database to read-write mode.
    The begin archive command performs the following tasks:
    * Commits modified data to disk.
    * Switches the database to read-only mode.
    * Reopens the database files in shared, read-only mode.
    * Creates in the ARBORPATH\app\appname\dbname directory a file (default name of archive.lst) containing a list of files to be backed up.
    Attempting to modify data during the backup process results in an error message that data is in read-only mode, therefore, you should not make any changes to the database during this process.

  • Strange: stored exit -1 in hotbackup and archive mode

    Hello all,
    we got strange problem with enabled hotbackup and archive mode with calendar database. (JES 4 2005Q4 with all available patches, 116577-42)
    Store daemon exited wit -1 if one of above activated.
    Checked Database - ok, 'make' new database with rebuilt - same condition.
    Both prozesses are stopping after copy of ics50alarms.db and daemon exited wit -1.
    But csbackup will work right.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
    we found the reason of this malefunction:
    As storedaemon act a perl script - this script unfortunatly do not check the
    language but grep some system messages.
    So we corrected language settings (system messages) and the storedaemon will run correctly.

  • CONFIGURE DATABASE  IN ARCHIVE MODE

    Hai
    I am just trying to change the database to archive mode.As part of this I need to set the parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_START to TRUE in the init.ora file.But I am not able to find this parameter in the init.ora file(any of the archive parameter for that matter).Please advise where can I find and set LOG_ARCHIVE_START parameter.
    Thanks
    Jay

    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST
    Parameter type
    String
    Syntax
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST = filespec
    Default value
    Null
    Parameter class
    Dynamic: ALTER SYSTEM
    Range of values
    Any valid path or device name, except raw partitions
    Real Application Clusters
    Multiple instances can have different values.
    Note:
    For Enterprise Edition users, this parameter has been deprecated in favor of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters. If Oracle Enterprise Edition is not installed or it is installed, but you have not specified any LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters, this parameter is valid.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST is applicable only if you are running the database in ARCHIVELOG mode or are recovering a database from archived redo logs. LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST is incompatible with the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters, and must be defined as the null string ("") or (' ') when any LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter has a value other than a null string. Use a text string to specify the default location and root of the disk file or tape device when archiving redo log files. (Archiving to tape is not supported on all operating systems.) The value cannot be a raw partition.
    If LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST is not explicitly defined and all the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters have null string values, LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST is set to an operating system-specific default value on instance startup.
    To override the destination that this parameter specifies, either specify a different destination for manual archiving or use the SQL*Plus statement ARCHIVE LOG START filespec for automatic archiving, where filespec is the new archive destination. To permanently change the destination, use the statement ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST = filespec, where filespec is the new archive destination.
    Neither LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST nor LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT have to be complete file or directory specifiers themselves; they only need to form a valid file path after the variables are substituted into LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT and the two parameters are concatenated together.

  • Looking for an advice in changing to archive mode my DB

    Hello buddies!
    I'm going to change a DB from no archive mode to archive mode. It's a RAc with ASM, 2 nodes.
    What I need that somebody verify these steps and give me suggestions.
    1. Login to one of the nodes (i.e. linux1) and disable the cluster instance parameter by setting
    cluster_database to FALSE from the current instance:
    ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/db
    export ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID=YAWIDB1
    export ORACLE_SID
    2. sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    SQL> alter system set cluster_database=false scope=spfile sid='YAWIDB1';
    3. Shutdown all instances accessing the clustered database:
    $ srvctl stop database -d YAWIDB
    Using the local instance, MOUNT the database:
    $ sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    SQL> startup mount
    Enable archiving:
    SQL> alter database archivelog;
    Re-enable support for clustering by modifying the instance parameter cluster_database to TRUE from the current instance:
    •     SQL> alter system set cluster_database=true scope=spfile sid=’YAWIDB1’;
    •     Shutdown the local instance:
    •     SQL> shutdown immediate
    •     Bring all instance back up using srvctl:
    •     $ srvctl start database -d YAWIDB
    Since the archive destination is pointing to this path: Archive destination /home/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/dbs/arch
    I think I should do the next steps to change that to ASM disk group, but in these steps I'm not sure. Please let me know If I'm wrong or correct? Or if I need to add something else.
    ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1='+DG_DB1_ASM' SID='yawidb';
    ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
    The order of the complete steps, are correct or shoud be different?
    Thanks for your comments and suggestions ;
    Al

    You do not need to change cluster parameter, see steps below:
    On node1:
    $ srvctl stop database -d <db_name>
    $ srvctl status database -d <db_name>
    Instance <instance1> is not running on node <node1>
    Instance <instance2> is not running on node <node2>
    $ srvctl start instance -d <db_name> -i <instance1> -o mount
    $ srvctl status database -d <db_name>
    Instance <instance1> is running on node <node1>
    Instance <instance2> is not running on node <node2>
    SQL> conn / as sysdba
    Connected.
    SQL> alter database archivelog;
    Database altered.
    SQL> archive log list;
    Database log mode              Archive Mode
    Automatic archival             Enabled
    Archive destination            <arch_dest>
    Oldest online log sequence     67
    Next log sequence to archive   68
    Current log sequence           68
    SQL> alter database open;
    Database altered.
    $ srvctl start instance -d <db_name> -i <instance2> -o open
    $ srvctl status database -d <db_name>
    Instance <instance1> is running on node <node1>
    Instance <instance2> is running on node <node2>
    SQL> conn / as sysdba
    Connected.
    SQL> select inst_id, log_mode from gv$database;
       INST_ID LOG_MODE
             1 ARCHIVELOG
             2 ARCHIVELOGArchive log destination could be change any time.
    Regards.

  • What are solutions for a way-too-big database?

    Hi guys!
    I'm a software developer and not very good in database designing. One day, I was asked something like this :
    "For example, there is a company with a web application. One day, the database for that application is way too big, caused performance issues and others, what is the solution for that application database?"
    At first, I thought that was about using multiple database with single app. But I don't know if I was right.
    I want to ask that what are the solutions? If it's "multiple database" then what should I do? Using two connection to 2 database simutaneously?
    I appreciate any replies. Thanks!

    Thanks Lubiez Jean-Val... for your links.
    I've got some more advices like :
    - "transferring workload to another database using different techniques to copy the data from original db"
    - "redesign of the database"
    So that means we use 2 different databases?Sometimes it is deemed desirable to keep only fairly recent data on the OLTP database, where the normal transaction activity happens, and replicate the data to another database that also contains historical data. This second database is used for heavy reporting tasks.
    And "redesign"?As in, design it from scratch and do it right this time. Make sure all data relations are properly defined to Third Normal Form; make sure all data is typed properly (use DATE columns for dates, NUMBER columns for numbers, etc); make sure you have designed effective indexing; make sure you use the capabilities of the rdbms and do NOT just use it as a data dump.
    See http://www.amazon.com/Effective-Oracle-Design-Osborne-ORACLE/dp/0072230657/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1301257486&sr=1-3
    are they really good solutions?Like most everything else, "It depends"
    It depends on if the proposed solutions are implemented properly and address the root problem. The root problem (or even perceived problem) hasn't yet been defined. You've just assumed that at some undefined point the database becomes "way-too-big" and will cause some sort of problem.
    It's assumed that we don't have or can't use partitioning.
    And why is that assumed? Yes, you have to have a version of Oracle that supports it, and it is an extra cost license. But like everything else, you and your management have to do a hard-nosed cost/benefit analysis. You may think you can't afford the cost of implementing partitioning, but it may be that you can't afford the expenses derived from NOT implementing it. I don't know what the case is for you, but you and your management should consider the factors instead of just rejecting in out of hand.

    Hello,
    We doing every week a cold backup from Oracle database, us database is in archive mode.
    We would like to test us cold backup in other server but the drive where we have to copy
    the datafiles and logs and rollback are different on this server.

    to test if the last cold backup is fine?
    My understand is copy the files(datafiles, log files, control files, pfile,...) in the new server, when everything is copied into new server,
    I have to:
    Modify the parameter CONTROL_FILES in the pfile
    Mount the database and rename the datafiles and redolog files
    Thanks.

    Mount the database and rename the datafiles and redolog filesYou shoud modify and rename only in case if path to datafiles, redologs, controlfiles, dump, archive log directories is different on test server.
    If that will be the same, then no need to rename.
    If it is different, then modify pfile in order to meet correct one paths.

    When you attempt to startup the cloned database on the new server you will find that it needs recovery -- because it was taken in hot backup mode.
    That is why you need to copy the archivelogs that are generated from the first archivelog after the first "alter tablespace begin backup" to the first archivelog after the last "alter tablespace end backup".
    I see that you are also including a CREATE CONTROLFILE script.
    You would run that at the cloned environment.
    Then you would issue the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL command to make the clone consistent.
    You can, of course, use the same method to copy these archivelogs as you use to copy database files -- tar, cpio, tape, etc.

  • Database Archiving mode

    Hello all,
    we are in upgrading BW 3.0B to BW 3.5 on MS Sql 2000. In the part of post upgrade activities, we need to check database archiving mode whether it is inactivation mode or disabled mode. How to check this? if it is disabled, how to activate database archive log mode?
    Kindly help us.
    kind regards,
    Aruna,

    Hi
    Right click on the SAP database in Enterprise Manager - it is called the <SID> of your BW system.
    There are three modes availabling - Simple, Bulk or Full.
    You should set the mode to Full.

  • I want to use Berkely database for my Dissertation

    Hello everyone,
    I am having some doubts regarding Berkely database. Actually, I am using this database for my project. The scenario of the project is, I have developed some business rules depending on the concept of Ripple Down Rules and represented the rules using Conceptual graphs. Now I want to store fire these business rules in to the Berkely database, so that my application can use these business rules from the Berkeley database.
    This is the context of my project. But, I am very new to this Berkely database. I have downloaded the Berkely database from the Oracle website and also installed it. The OS is am using is Windows XP SP2. Can anyone explain me how to store Conceptual graphs in a Berkely database.
    I am really a beginner to Berkely database. i don't even know what to do after installing the Berkely database. Please advise me about this.
    I would be very thankful to you.
    Cheers,
    Phani.

    Hi Phani,
    The simple answer is however you want. Berkeley DB doesn't put any constraints on how you store data in it. Its main purpose is to provide an efficient and scalable key/value storage and retrieval system, upon which you can build your own data storage system.
    More specifically, if you're representing graph data, the simplest way to do so is with the "edge list" paradigm. You could, for example, set up a pair of databases, one to store all your graph nodes (with associated metadata) and one for directed edges. I'm not sure what particular c structures you'll want to use for these, but I'd suggest using record numbers on both the nodes and the edges DBs, unless all your nodes have unique and meaningful names. I'd also allow duplicate records on your edges DB, and have a very simple record structure in it that simply maps from a source node id to a destination node it (the duplicates allow multiple edges from a given node.)
    If you have more specific constraints on your graph and algorithms you'd like to run on it, there are potentially more schemes you could use, such as the nested set representation for trees, and so on.
    Hope this helps,
    Daniel

    It depends on how you are connecting to the database to do the shutdown/startup.
    You should be doing it as a local connection.  Log on to the linux server using the os account that owns the oracle installation, probably 'oracle'
    set your environment variables correctly by using the oraenv utility as this:
    oracle: . oraenv
    That's "dot" "space" "oraenv"
    You will be prompted for the correct ORACLE_SID.
    After that you should be able to connect with a simple
    oracle: sqlplus / as sysdba
