Archive utility not setting permissions

Hi All,
I am hopeing someone can help me out with this wierd issue I am having.
For some reason now when I expand zip files with the archive tool it creates files with no permissions.
----------  1 dalupus  staff     10805 Aug 25 19:27 1356724322803Log.txt
Is there an option somewhere to tell the archiver what permissions to give files when expanding them?
My understanding was that it was supposed to set correct permissions when expanding the files.
Thanks,
Mike

If you launch archive utility,
Go to Preferences:
Change the "Save Expanded Files" Path to anything other than the default.
Attempt an unarchive.
Verify the zip file unarchived, then change the setting back to your preference.
File / Exit
Launch again to test.
This solved the issue for me.
My files were clearly unarchiving based on the disk and CPU utilization stats, but not saving to the same folder location.
Not searchable via finder either.
Now they work fine.

    Hi,
We had the same issue, and in my opinion it is caused by the parallelisation of sapcar during SUM phase PREP_PRE_CHECK/SCANDIR_EPS0
I did see several parallel SAPCAR jobs running during this phase.
So what happens when one job extracts SIGNATURE.SMF at the same time another job tries to finalize its extraction by setting the permissions for /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in/SIGNATURE.SMF?
It can happen that permissions are being set at the same time another sapcar yust deletes this file to begin extracting.
Since we had 146 SAR archives that needed to be extracted, a retry allways ended up in 4 to 12 conflicts.
What did do the trick was adding
    /sapcar/extrcact_parallel = 0
    to the file
    ../SUM/abap/bin/SAPup.par
    Just as Christoph Langer suggested.
We had to restart the whole phase, a repeat was not enough to solve the problem.

  • [Apache 2] Critical error mod_rewrite: Could not set permissions on rewrite

    Hi,
Well I had a look around to this problem and it seems it is specific to mac os system on intel machines, so I send my post here.
I had installed the apache 2 server from www.serverlogistics.com and it seems to start. However it is impossible to log into my local website with an error in my web browser "can't log to "localhost" server".
By reading the logs I got in /Library/Apache2/logs/error_log (where there is also a httpd.pid file): [crit] (14)Bad address: mod_rewrite: Could not set permissions on rewriteloglock; check User and Group directives Configuration Failed
So, I commented the line "LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so" in /Library/Apache2/conf/httpd.conf with no efffect at all.
Then I don't know what to do.... any idea please ?
NB : I did not configure or set any htaccess file in any directory.

If you'd like help, you need to describe the specific problems you're having. You're not giving people here much to go on in order to be able to help. Without knowing what you've already tried, and what the results were, it's impossible to say if you've just made a simple mistake or if you've truly hit upon something that won't work. The Apache logs are especially helpful, with lots of detailed information to help in troubleshooting.
To say the true, I bought this Macbook because the system kernel is 100% compatible with Linux, and I was full of naives hopes, thinking that I will install/compile easily softwares that are usual under Linux world.....
I certainly haven't had much problem compiling and installing software that's distributed as source code, though I haven't tried to compile Apache. While it's true that much of the software will compile, it's also true that you might have to make some small changes here and there to the source code to get it to work correctly. But you might also have to do the same thing to get them to compile on different Linux distributions. So OS X isn't that different in that respect.
If you want to get Apache 2 running with MAMP, post back with specific information on what problems you had and I'll try to help. I've been hacking at Apache installations for many years now, so if I know the problems you're having, there's a good chance I've been through them, too.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
    drwxrwxrwx
    d = directory
    r = read
    w = write
    x = executeable program

  • Archive Bits Not Setting

    Hello,
I have just noticed a strange anomaly on our NetWare 6.5 SP4 server. I'm not sure how long this has been going on.
When some documents are created/saved on the server, the archive bit is not being set. We discovered this when a file was inadvertently deleted and while trying to restore it could not find it on our backup tapes (differential backup based on archive bit). As I searched around the various drives (both Windows and NetWare), I found that this is randomly (as far as I can tell) happening with all users, but only on our Netware server. The Windows server is fine.
It appears to be mostly MS Office documents, probably because that is mostly what we use here, but there are some PDFs missing the archive bit too. I have tried to create several test documents and am not able to reproduce it for myself. I had another user walk through and re-create several documents (duplicating the work from the day before where archive bits were not set), but while I was watching, all archive bits were set.
I did a search on the NetWare server for all documents created/modified since Sept 30 (our last full backup where all archive bits should have been reset). I found about 1000 documents that have been created/modified,but did not have the archive bit set. I then set the archive bit on all of them. This afternoon I re-ran that same search and came up with about 50 documents that were created/modified today that did not get the archive bit set. This represents about 25% of the files created/modified today.
I've searched the Internet and Novell's website looking for answers but haven't had any luck.
Has anyone else run into anything like this before?
    thanks,
    david

    UPDATE:
The first day after I installed the updates, I had about 20 documents not get the archive bit set. That was fewer than the 100 or so I was getting per day before the updates.
In the last week or so since that day, I have now only had a few documents not get the archive bit set during the entire week. While it is not perfect, maybe it will continue to improve.
Thanks for all your help with this.

  • Disk Utility Not Repair Permissions on OS 10.4- Are there other options?

How can I repair repair HD permissions when disk utility does not work? I have a powerpc g4 that I installed a second internal HD and then system would not boot up. Evidently the second drive was damaged and as a result something affected my boot on my main drive. I removed the 2nd hard drive, reset pram, nvram, and would not boot. Tried the usual reset commands and no boot up. (gets to the gray block screen instructing to restart and stops). Restarted trying to get to safe mode by holding down "shift" key but only gets to blue screen and goes no further with spinning circle looking for something. Used my os x install disk and tried disk utility and s.m.a.r.t indicated was ok and ran repair disk and passed with no problems with the file structure. Then ran disk permissions and disk utility would not run or would not complete. I left the computer on overnight to see if it would repair the permissions.  Then I went ahead and reinstalled os x 4 again on the HD drive using the save last boot option and restarted and the computer booted up. The desktop came up looking like the old one but most items would not work properly and very slow or would close automaticly.  Looked in system information and found spaces between items. I closed the computer down by restart again to see if it would correct the problem but went back to gray screen instructing a reboot. Reboots brought me back to the same gray screen. Is this drive now not usable, can be zeroed out and resued, or just replaced? Where do I go from here....thanks

I installed a second internal HD and then system would not boot up. Evidently the second drive was damaged
What makes you think this? It's not very often that a new hard drive is defective out of the box. More likely is that it was connected improperly. Don't jump to conclusions without evidence.
Then I went ahead and reinstalled os x 4 again on the HD drive using the save last boot option
What? No such thing. Do you mean Archive & Install?
Is this drive now not usable, can be zeroed out and resued, or just replaced?
If Disk Utility says the drive is good, then we have to assume that's true. It appears that you've somehow corrupted your entire OS X installation, so whether or not you have a backup from before this happened, your best option now is to completely erase that hard drive and reinstall OS X from scratch, along with all the Software Updates to bring it to 10.4.11, as well as your third-party applications.
Then, if that doesn't work, that may be an indication of a drive problem, or even a system hardware problem.
To prevent this kind of thing from happening again, you need to invest in at least one external backup drive to use for a bootable backup of your entire hard disk, and keep it updated every day before you shut down your Mac. You can use SuperDuper ($27.95) or Carbon Copy Cloner (donationware) for those.

  • DisK Utility Not Repairing Permissions

Hello, I have a problem with my iMac.
The problem is as following: I cannot repair permission using Disk Utility.
What happened first was that I wanted to install a program from a mounted drive, however a Pop up occurred and said the framework of installer was incorrect.
After that, I went to Disk Utility and clicked repair permissions when a Pop up like this came up:
    http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2582/picture1mt4.png
    What is the problem?
    Thank you for any help,
    Daniel

-are you running Disk Utility from the HD or booted to the instal disk?
    -what are the affected files?
If the file(s) was not installed by the mac OS X installer, Repair Permissions will not fix the issue
    Tip:
If the files are located in your home folder,
    boot to instal disk#1,
choose Reset Password Utility from the menu bar
and "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs".
    .

  • Archive utility will not unzip .jars anymore?

Is anyone else having the problem of not being able to open .jars with archive utility anymore?
It certainly used to work, I'm quite sure of it, because I've always used Archive utility to open .jars and get access to the .classes. Any ideas on how to fix this? is this a bug or was a feature dropped without warning or am I just missing something?
I'm not a heavy user of java, but it is kind of irritating to find that something that my computer used to do in a simple intuitive way is no longer available, or if it is it's certainly not simple or intuitive! I've checked archive utility preferences and can't find anything there. I'm really not sure how to deal with this! I've tried dealing with it through terminal, but for some reason it's not quite working and I can't crack open the .jar to find out why haha!

Thanks! that app works great I just wish I knew what happened to Archive Utility. The thing I like best about OSX is that it comes with a great set of tools. I don't like having to go and get apps to do specific new jobs y'know?

  • Archive Utility and permissions

I was wondering if there was a way to instruct Archive Utility to use the default permissions when expanding a file.
Without a long-winded explanation...I have two users using the same iMac to download client files from various FTP sites. With one user on 1st shift and one user on 2nd, sometimes the downloading and expanding of files can overlap shifts. When one user logs out and the other logs in, one can not access some of the files from the other. Some of these are stand alone files (AI, PDF, etc.) and there are no permission problems with these (I fixed this using umask in a launchd-user.conf file in the /etc folder). Some files are .zip and .sit files. The archives' permissions are are OK until the files are expanded, then the resulting folder has different permissions than the .zip or .sit file.
    Any ideas?
    THANKS!

This is no problem. See this link. Mac OS X 10.5: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions reports a permissions issue with ARDAgent
Download 10.5.1 Update and install it again and it should get rid of it so you don't see them anymore.

  • Unable to set permissions for archiving

Using G5 iMac, OS 10.4.11 with iDVD 6. I have followed the instructions 1 thru 3 in help for setting permissions to archive a dvd project without any problem. However the last instruction is "Click Apply to enclosed items". I can not find anywhere to do this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards from Ireland.

You are right. There is no place to "click apply to enclosed items". Just ignore that instruction, as it seems to be unnecessary. You already set your permissions by doing steps 1-3.

  • DPM 2012 R2 UR4 - DPM could not set security permissions on the replica or recovery point volume that was created.

    Hi All,
I am running a fresh install of SCDPM 2012 R2 with a protection group that is backing up the 'C:\', Bare Metal and System State of some VMs. If i add any additional servers to the group since the first creation it returns the following error:

Error details: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
Recommended action: Review the error details, take appropriate action and retry the operation.
If i re-create the whole protection group it works fine.
Could any one advise any further diagnostics I can do to try and locate the reason behind not being able to modify the group after the first creation? I can add new servers to other PGs without any issues.

If you are protecting any of the system state/BMR protection. Can you stop protection by deleting the older recovery points and then recreate the protection group.

What you are seeing are messages. It's ok.. it won't do any good to repeatedly repair permissions. As long as you see Repair Permissions Complete when it's finished, you are good to go.
Also, if you see any messages that say: SUID: That can be ignored.
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Keep in mind, the only time you need to repair permissions is for troubleshooting.
