Archiver auto-imported documents fail conversion (GenWWW)??? :-\
So I'm experiencing an unusual problem where the docs that are sync'd from another server go through "conversion" upon auto-archiver-import even though there isn't an outgoing provider to an IBR, all file formats are set to Passthru, and I have the "Copy Web Content" option turned on for the archive. To make matters worse, the conversion sometimes fails, which prevents documents from becoming released. There's no pattern as to when or why the files (xml, pdf, jpg, bmp, doc, hcsp, etc) fail conversion either; and not every imported doc fails.
Some other symptoms:
- The content info page shows "Indexing failed." under "Conversion Error" (is this as simple as a corrupted collection? we still use Verity)
- The conversion status is "Failed"
- The revision status is "GenWWW"
- Once I resubmit it (via Repository Manager or doc info page), the conversion succeeds about 99% of the time
- The IBR conversion succeeds on the source server
These sync'd docs shouldn't even be going through conversion in the first place...
Any thoughts??
Frank Abela wrote:Not likely an indexer issue. The GENWWW state is valid while the document is going through conversion. Once conversion is complete it is set to Done. Only then is it ready for indexing. You can prove this by switching off the indexer auto update cycle and switching on systemdatabase and services verbose tracing. You can actually trace the inserts of GENWWW and DONE into the database even though no indexing is possible at that point. With all due respect, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk. But it's likely an indexer issue - here's why:
I'd agree with you if we were simply talking about normal checkins and updates with an attached IBR instance. We aren't talking about the normal here.
- You have documents being ingested via archiver, with a webviewable document already present in the archive, so IBR shouldn't be the issue - you aren't "creating" a webviewable in this case. Unless "AlwaysResubmit=1" is being set somewhere, these documents have no need to go back to IBR - plus according to the OP (Andrew, I think), IBR is not even enabled in the target environment.
- stellentpmp wroteOnce I resubmit it (via Repository Manager or doc info page), the conversion succeeds about 99% of the timeIf IBR is broke, doesn't it seem like 99% is a pretty high success rate for a broken system for simply clicking a button - and no IBR is present to do the conversions to boot? (How can IBR be broke in an environment where IBR isn't even present?)
- As I mentioned in my previous post, I saw ALMOST the EXACT same behavior less than a month ago when archiving documents into a system (documents archived had webviewables with no real need for reconversion). The archive imported, but only about 20% of the content indexed. Resubmitting individual items failed sporadically. Forcing collection rebuilds to index everything would start, but stop for no reason. When I looked at the system console output, there would always be a message ("text export timed out") on different items (never the same ones) and once this error was thrown, the entire indexing process stopped cold with no recovery. Increasing the timeout allowed the text export process to finish, and the collection was successfully rebuilt.
Now the reason for the need to increase the timeout is unknown, but that may be due to file system access and the speed of the access to the file system where the text export file is being written, which is probably the "~temp" directory under "vault".
Frank Abela wrote: If you're using pass through, then this is a file copy which is failing for some reason.Again, this would be a function of file system access, which fits with the text export failure scenario mentioned above. It would interesting to see if the behavior is worse at a given time of the day, or is it truly random.

Documents remain in GenWWW status and conversion error message says success
Hi,
I have instaled UCM 11.1.1.4 and the situation is that documents remains in GenWWW status, the
conversion error message says success . In Ibr logs says everything went perfect, in UCM logs isn't recorded any error.
Anyone have a clue to solve this problem?
Update:
When runnig IdcAnalyse appears the following error:
./IdcAnalyze -filesystem
FileSystemFileStore:1.0.0.0 started.
Content Management System Server. Version 11gR1-11.1.1.4.0-idcprod1-101229T001824
Copyright (C) 1996-2011, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
Analyzing filesystem...
.....................Error checking filesystem: Unable to locate extension for rendition flag 'L'.
Is this error related with the documents remain in GenWWW?
Thanks

Edited by: carlos.pereira on Jul 26, 2011 5:00 PMUsually this issue is seen when the IBR's cannot keep up with the load and after a defined amount of time, the refineryjobs entries are cleared while the IBR's might still hold this content item.
If you do what Srinath proposes the refinery jobs is cleared as well as the queues on the IBR. This will not fix the issue with the documents in GenWWW, but it will make the way clear for (new) documents to be (Re-)submitted for conversion. IdcAnalyze should then be able to create a IdcCommand file with resubmit_for_conversion calls for all the documents in GenWWW state. Running this IdcCommand file should then convert all the documents that were "stuck" in GenWWW. -
I am attempting to Import a .pdf version of my script. I also tried a .doc version. It only imports the 1st page and then give an error stating 'failed to import document'. I am using Windows 8 and latest version of Google Chrome. I am using Story Plus. This happens in all browsers that I've tried. I have to have this imported today if anyone can help me. Thank you!
Hi,
Could you please email the document you are trying to import at DL-AdobeStory-support<at>adobe<dot>com so that we may have a look?

Upgrading Stellent 7.5 to OCS 10gR3 Import Process failing HELP NEEDED
Hi,
I am upgrading Stellent 7.5 to Oracle COntent Server 10gR3. Here is what I have done.
1. Migrated all the configuration from Stellent to 10gR3
2. Migrated the Folders from Stellent to 10gR3
3. Migrated the content by creating an Archive and then importing the Archive in 10gR3.
I am seeing lot of errors in the log file. Following are the errors I see in the log file.
1.

7.
Import error for archive 'ProductionContent' in collection 'prod_idc': Aborting. Too many errors.
QUESTIONS:
Is there a way to keep the import processing running even if the errors are coming. As it looks like when there are too many errors the import process stops in the middle.
How do I find out the total number of folders and the documents. As I want to run the same query on Stellent 7.5 and find out total number of folders and the documents and then run the same query on 10gR3 and compare the results. Just want to fnd out how much content is imported.
How do I run the import process over again as half of the content is imported and my import process failed in the middle when running the process over again what settings do I need to provide to make sure no duplicates get created etc.
Any help is really appreciated.
ThanksHi
There are a couple of ways to get around the issues that you are facing such that import process is not interrupted because of these. They are as follows :
1. Use ArchiveReplicationException component . This will keep the import process running and make a log of the failed process which can be used for assessing / gauging the success of the import and what all needs to be redone.
I would suggest this as the option for your case.
2. Put the config variable for arciver exception to 9999 so that the archive process stops only after hitting the limit of 9999 errors.
I would suggest to go for step 1 as that would be a much more foolproof and methodical way of knowing what all items have failed during import.
Thanks

Re: (forte-users) Hi - Query on XML Import document -Hang
Double check that your XML is valid. I've seen
importDocument hang when I'm missing an end tag.
I don't think it's a validating parser.
Of course, there's no documentation, so.... :)

Well not really. One way to check if the xml is valid is to open it in IE
5.0. If its well formed then it will show up otherwise it will give you an
error. Also the document object is not the best code that came out of Forte
and has errors, so this might be a bug you will have to report. And they
are not giving any new patches until 3.5 comes out in 2 months.

If the XML is invalid it should fail on all boxes. This should be a sequent
specific problem.

After unarchive a repository, the auto import is not working
Hi All,
I've met a problem when I archived a repository and unarchive it using another repository name:
I can login to it by Console, and Data manager, etc. But when I put a input file to the Ready folder of its port, the file is not processed by the Import Server. On the other hand, all the other repositories on that server remain fine and the auto-import is normal.
Could any one tell me if there is any other Config shold be done to make the import work?
PS: still the 5.5 version, not 7.1.
Thanks,
Angela

Edited by: Angela Zhang on Aug 6, 2009 9:09 AMHi Angela,
If you are using any password for Admin user then same needs to be mentioned in MDIS.ini file. Check the below steps
1. Open MDIS.ini file located in <MDM Insallation directory>/Import Server
2. Navigate to your repository section
3. Remove the character 'E' from the entry PasswordE
4. Write the password of Admin user i.e. Password = abc
5. Restart the Import Server once and check the same password entry, it should get converted to PasswordE and the value should be some characters.
6. Now check the Auto Import

Auto Import CD then Eject unreliable (works half the time)
I'm trying to re-rip my large collection of CDs, so I set my iTunes General Preferences to:
When you insert a CD: [Import CD and Eject]
Unfortunately, it doesn't work half the time. When it does work, it works as you might expect. I insert the CD, it spins up, iTunes mentions that it is looking up the track info online, and then it starts importing. When it's done it ejects. Perfect.
However, sometimes I insert the CD and things go differently. It spins up, iTunes acts like it's doing something, but then it stops as if no CD were present. There's no CD listed on my desktop nor on the left panel of iTunes. My only option here is to use the top menu bar Eject -> Eject Superdrive tool, then reinsert. The second insertion of the CD makes it work as listed in the previous paragraph.
At first it seemed to fail every few CDs, but now I have to do the in-out-in thing on every CD. Because this requires MORE attention on my part than doing it the normal, manual way, I have resorted to the old manual way. Insert CD, iTunes shows the CD, and then I say Import. Then I manually eject.
Anyone know why the auto feature isn't working reliably?
Thanks!
MichaelActually the problem seems unrelated to whether I have auto-import turned on or not. The problem appears to be general, and related to CD identification.
I notice when it fails that iTunes has begun doing the CDDB (or whatever it's called now) lookup, but that only flashes briefly and then it goes away as if there were no CD in the drive. I eject, immediately reinsert, and it works the next time.
Now that I'm nearly done re-ripping my collection (450 CDs), I'd estimate that it fails to see/recognize/mount 1 out of every 5 CDs on the first try. -
Auto Import feature lacking convert to DNG and move to subfolders...
Folks,
As many of you may be aware, when setting up a folder for auto import, LR 3.3 does not give you the same options as you might see in the regular import functionality. Namely, the ability to convert to RAW images to DNG on the import as well as move to subfolders is not available. This is a real bugger for me as I have a nice new Eye-Fi Pro card that I have setup to dump all images from my camera to a "watched" folder which is then imported into LR automatically. Unfortunately, auto import doesn't solve the issue for me, so I am back to doing the same old import routine I had done before which is tethering the camera back up via USB (or popping out the card and mounting it instead) and use the regular import feature.
I realize a lot of the design impetus for auto import is around tethered usage, where a photographer may want to see the images as fast as possible, but why would Adobe cripple the auto import functionality deliberately. Give the auto import the same functionality as the regular import and let the customers decide which works best for their setup. Geez!!
~DavidI believe I watched a tutorial that indicated that Lightroom now downloads the raw files first and then does the conversion. This speeds up the download process and enables you to go back to my room to do other work more quickly. I cannot comment on the speed of the conversion because I don't convert to DNG. But my thoughts are that 700 raw files will take some time to convert.

Convert to DNG on Auto Import?
Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a way to convert RAW images to DNG during Auto Import? It would speed up my workflow it there were a way to do it.
Thank you.John,
I can't speak for the original poster, but it would speed up my workflow considerably. To get my RAW photos into my LR Catalog and a copy of the original into a backup directory manual import is less complicated, faster, and can be accomplished without leaving LR
Without Auto Import:
1. Start Lightroom
2. File-->Import photos from Disk
3. Select folder "Camera Import"
4. [Import All folders in Selected Folder]
5. [Import]
5 clicks 0 keystrokes
With Auto Import:
1. Start Lightroom {Auto Import occurs}
2. Ctrl-A (Selects all imported photos)
3. Library-->Convert Photos to DNG
4. [OK]
5. Start-->filesearch "*.cr2 in Folder Pictures"
6. Advanced Search-->Location-->Choose Search Directory-->DefaultUser-->Pictures-->Lightroom
7. [Search]
8. Ctrl-A (Select all), Cut
9. Start-->Pictures-->Backup Directory-->Paste
21 clicks 9 Keystrokes
bwalkerinc, I haven't found anything on the "Import" tab in Preferences that will force DNG conversion on Auto Import. My photos still Auto Import in their original format regardless of any changes made there. -
I was writing a very important document; I saved it and I closed pages, now when I try to open it, I have a message with "it's impossible to open this document". How can i fix it?
When you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac:
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.1 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Problem in Auto import & syndication.
Hi All,
I am facing an unusual problem in auto import & syndication.
The problem is all of a sudden the import & syndication process stops
without making any changes.
Has anybody faced the same problem & any inputs to overcome.
Regards,
PramopdHi Pramod,
The problem is all of a sudden the import & syndication process stops
without making any changes.
Can you explain your problem a little more in detail
Automatic importing and syndication stops suddenly means is it that after importing or syndicating a file once it does no work again?
If this is your problem then check for the following things:
- After automatic importing of a source file once .MDM places the file automatically in the archive folder. If you wish to reimport the same file it may not work again if in your import map import actio is just create. As once you have imported the fiel based on the primary key in teh matching tab the rec has alredy been imported in MDM so next time this rec will not com eunder th create import action but Update all mapped field option. So if you wish to reimport teh smae rec then change your import action acc or else jsut cahnge th primary field value in the xml and a new rec will be imported.
- As for Syndication,if you have syndicated a file once out of mdm and the suppress unchanged records property is enabled in syndicator then the same records will not be syndicated again untill any field value for those rec change. You will have to disable taht property again if you wnat to resyndicate the same rec or else make any changes in the rec to resesnd it.
- If your issuse is something else and is not solved by this then try checking th import and syndication services on your machin.Go to services.msc and check to see that the import and syndication server is started if not restart it.
- Also check the config file ie mdis.ini and mdss.ini for the valid entries .The delay time for scanning a port. Also check if any exception have occured in the exception folders.
Hope It Helped,
Thanks & Regards
