ARD 3.1 freezing constantly within 20 minutes using static ip

I've experienced many of the issues posted on this forum with regards to ARD 3.1 on an intel iMac I use in the school district I work in. The issue I most experience is that ARD freezes anywhere within 20 minutes of being launched & force quitting is the only option. I thought at first this was an intel mac issue as ARD 3.1 on my 15" g4 pb works reliably from anywhere within the district.
Last Friday it dawned on me that my is set to use DHCP since I take with me to various buildings in the district, each of which is on it's own sub-net. The iMac uses a static ip as it sits on my desk at the IT center. I set the iMac to using DHCP with the result ARD worked through quite a long session without any problems. Switching back to a static ip ARD didn't last even 20 minutes.
I haven't tried configuring the iMac using DHCP with a static address yet (personally I can't understand why that option is available); right now I'm happy to find a solution that offers some hope. Any ideas on what might be happening.

I was having a similar problem this afternoon with my ARD after I added several new systems. I realized that some of the info for the systems wasn't coming up correct. After deleting those systems from the lineup, I stopped having freezes. I hope this helps.
Oh ya, I'm running ARD on a MacBook Intel.

  • Every single time I go to my Hotmail account(s), Foxfire will load the page and then freeze within a minute or two requiring a whole shutdown of my browswer. HELP!!!

Over the past few months I have been having issues every time that I log onto my Hotmail account. My Foxfire has seemed to be "buggy" for the past three upgrades but now mostly everything is working well. When I log onto one of my Hotmail accounts, I can start to check it and within a minute or two, Foxfire will freeze and I have to Force Quit. To my knowledge, I'm not missing any PlugIns, I have not changed anything in my settings, yet it constantly freezes. I have to Force Quit Foxfire every single time I want to check my email. I really like FoxFire and don't want to go back to Safari - Help!

I get an e-mail through gmail that notifies me that the days comics are available for me to read. I open the e-mail and immediately click on the link that takes me to the site and my page of comics. I shut down the e-mail and only have the site page open. Somewhere about halfway through the list, Firefox crashes. Usually it then gives me that "inform Firefox" notice, but it also just tells me that it has crashed and I have to restart Firefox from the desktop. Rarely, it will let me do a "restore" but, as I say, that is rare - I usually just have to restart Firefox and go back to my e-mail and start all over again. Also, when I am on the site, the icons for going forward or back on the individual comics is not showing, I have to guess which icon is under the pointer.
I have not reset Firefox back to original, as I don't really want to do that, since I seem to always lose important information when I do that. I am using the most current version - 33.02. Even while typing this, FIrefox won't show that dash "-" mark, I just hope it's there.
Also, my bookmarks save(exported) file is 12,924 KB in size, which seems rather large to me. And I do have a large amount of sites saved, so...
    Any ideas/help?
    Thanks!

  • My MacBook Air is boiling within 3 minutes of run

    Hi,
I bought my MacBook Air around end of 2010.
And recently I started experiencing overheating within 10 minutes of run by using common softwares and web browsing.
Actually sometimes I've Chrome or Firefox with over 200 tabs (with flash blocker) or compiling something in the meantime, but this is how I using a Mac in a standard way (I'm a software developer).
Now I've change my place from UK to the Switzerland, where is much hotter (30 degress), but I don't this is the case.
In following screenshot you can see the temperature from Temperature Monitor at 18.43.56 (I just turn it on and run ) and 3 minutes later at 18.46.31.
The only process was installing some software which includes some compiling, but even that it should be not so critical (90 degrees for CPU?).
P.S. I know how to use Activity Monitor and Terminal to kill the processes which I don't use, so I monitor it constantly.
I started to use ice bag (from the freezer), which helps until I'll decide to some cooling pad, but I never need that.
So my question is, what's wrong?
I was reading about SMC reset here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    but I don't believe it'll help.
I've experienced yesterday two OSX crashes, at least one per week is a standard, I think it's because of overheating.
Here is another stats from my previous session (it's normal?):
before desparately I decided to put my laptop to the fridge after the OSX crash, so I could work afterwards for the next half an hour (I know that's the bad approach, sorry).
I read already thousands of similar problem on the internet, so I assuming I'm not only the one.
    Thanks for any advises.
    Environment:
    My kernel:
    Darwin kenorbs-MacBook-Air.local 10.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun  7 16:33:36 PDT 2011; root:xnu-1504.15.3~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
I've started using ceramic kitchen table for my table, it kind of works only when I don't do nothing on my laptop, so not really helps.
    Summary:
Any ideas apart of reinstalling everything from scratch? It's time to buy a new MacBook?
Is there any advanced software or command that will give more information about the following problems?

Now it's not so extremely hot, but it's very slow, almost as Pentium 200. Even now I'm typing this post, sometimes I've to wait 0,5-1sec to see the letters appearing. When I was opening this page, I've seen some widgets were rendering. Some of the pages loading endless. When typing some commands, I've to wait few seconds until they'll terminate using Control-C. When I change the application using CMD-Tab, I've to wait 1-2 seconds untill I could use it, it appears, mouse moving, but I can't click anything (probably swap). When I'm scrolling, it's freezing every few seconds. My load average is around 2-3. Basically I can't work on my laptop anymore. I've it on cold flat surface with power supply connected. Every day or few days I'm sending to you crashes.
My system is up-to-date. I don't want Lion for now, until my laptop will work, I heard it's even slower and worse (as even the post above as example).

  • Since installing Premiere Pro CC 2014 upgrade, Mac Pro jumpy video and freezes constantly

Since installing Premiere Pro CC 2014 upgrade, Mac Pro jumpy video and freezes constantly. Worked perfectly before. Anyone else finding these issues? I'm running a quad core Mac Pro, so it's definitely not the hardware.

I've maxed out the memory assignment, but this isn't a memory problem per se.
It looks like certain Premiere Pro conditions are associated with a huge increase in kernel_task memory, zeroing out any available free memory.  In my case it seems to be associated with effects applied to titles or jpgs  or imported psd (Photoshop) files.
Program restart pulls kernel memory back to the 1.3gb normal size.

  • [SOLVED] KDE 4.10 freezes constantly

    Hello
Since the 4.10 update, i've been experiencing some issues wich render my dayly use of the desktop unusable.
Every now and then, dolphin, gweenview, kdialog, and pretty much every kde app (okular seems an exception, but i'm not entirly sure about it) freeze constantly for 30-40 seconds every couple of minutes. Other apps (yakuake, ksysguard) response correctly while dolphin/gweenview/kdialog are frozen.
    top/ksysguard show no anormal output.
I've tried a clean kde4 session (by deleting ~/.kde4) and a new user, and the problem persists. Don't know what else to try, nor wich logs to look.
Anyone experiencing similar issues? If there's a log I can take a look at, please tell me where it is.

Solved, I changed akonady's database to SQL lite instead of mySQL, and now seems to run fine.
EDIT: False positive, issue isen't solved. Further research indicates this might not be a kde related bug, but a chrome/chromium one, as posted here:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=159237
EDIT2: Again, following https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=159237 recomendations, I switched to Chromiuim instead of Google Chrome and now everything works as expected (something related to nvidia's tmalloc implementation, read linked thread for further info)

  • IMac Freezing constantly

I have an iMac that was running slow and had random freeze issue, decided it's time to reformat and do a clean install, went with Snow Leopard.  However, after the install, the freeze became too frequent, sometimes even within a minute after force restart.
Symtom:  The freeze happens at random which means it will froze when in finder, in applications, or do nothing.  Noticed there are line glitches too, black out screen.  Mouse would move, but have to force shut down with the power button.  The freeze can happens as fast as within a minute after restart, sometimes can run for 45 minutes...etc.
    iMac 4.1
    RAM 1.5GB
    HD: 250GB - 190GB still available.
    Graphic: ATI x1600
    OS: 10.5 and 10.6.
    Here is what I've tried:
    - At first I thought it had something to do with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and ATI, tried the KrzysiuTurek technique. https://discussions.apple.com/message/11300357#11300357
    - Rolled back to 10.6.2.
    - Downgrade to 10.5, and 10.5.8.
Read about resetting SMC or PRAM, doubt it's those.
    - Did clean install, reformat.
I have two other iMacs that are the same model running on 10.5.8, it's slow but at least don't freeze. I think I am going to leave those two along.
There doesn't seem to be a definite fix, not even Apple.  Any ideas?

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

    bmears6,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still freeze constantly?
Regarding the contents of the report, having only 64 MB free RAM in Lion suggests that you’re experiencing slowdowns due to swapping to disk. You have what looks like two HP printer drivers using up 3.5 GB of RAM between them — that seems like an extraordinarily large amount of RAM to provide printer support. Perhaps there’s a problem with the printer configuration?

This got so bad, that I reformatted my entire drive, reinstalled all of the Apple programs from scratch, and then only select third party ones that I always use (Microsoft Office, OmniFocus, Firefox, Evernote).  That's about it.  The main program that constantly stalls out, though, is Apple Mail. I have 80% of my hard drive free (240GB out of 300GB).  I cannot figure it out, and it's driving me nuts.  Any suggestions?

Dear Hampton, I have exactly the same problem with my MacBook Pro and it seems to be a RAM problem. I took it to the Genius Bar and sadly the truth, which the Genius bar guys were reluctant to admit, is that there are issues with the way the OS manages RAM, failing to clear Inactive memory and keep Free memory at a healthy level. If you go to the Activity Monitor and check the system memory I bet you will find that whenever you're seeing the "Exited: Killed: 9" lines one after the other as posted, you Free Memory would have been gobbled up by Inactive Memory. Extra memory would seem to be the permanent solution, sadly, and Apple charge an arm and a leg for it. Or you may have to live like I am at the moment, i.e. having the Activity Monitor permanently on the dock to keep an eye on Inactive Memory. When Inactive Memory gets too big I launch Terminal (Utilities) and type "purge." It frees up memory by clearig Inactive memory so that your machine's memory is as fresh as it is soon after you've started it. Good luck

  • When I use Firefox and Hotmail at startup, Firefox freezes for about 1 minute, and then I can continue. First I though it was my computer but 2 other girls in my class have the same problem with Hotmail and Firefox. What can I do to change this?

When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.
This is very annoying, what can I do to change this?
    xxx ellen
p.s. I am from the Netherlands, maybe that has something to do with it?

  • G570 USB mouse cursor freezing constantly

The problem will be explained lower but let me tell you how this was.
So I've had this problem like 1,5 years ago, after I bought the laptop. So I bought a cheap mouse for it back then, and I noticed that the laptop had problems with the USB mouse, fine, I thought it was the poor mouse, so I bought another cheap one, and it worked fine. Then I bought a gamepad, and again, this problem.
Today I bought a gaming mouse, and the problem re-appeared. I've been searching through the internet all day long.
Basically, the mouse cursor freezes constantly, also with that "plugged-unplugged" sound, but the touchpad works.
I've been looking all around, tried the mouse on another laptop and it works fine.
    I've tried:
    - Starting the laptop in safe mode.
    - Uninstalling/reinstalling the realtek USB reader or w/e its name is.
    - The device manager trick (I think you know what I'm talking about)
    - Been changing the OS many times after I bought the laptop, that problem persisted with the gamepad.
    - Tried different ports around the laptop.
None of them helped. BUT, I saw that actually it hangs when the CPU is throttling. I've changed my power plan to energy saver and the problem went away. I've changed the maximum/minimum CPU power, the problem went away.
But the frequency sets constantly at 800 MHz. What can I do to keep it at 2200 MHz (i3-2330M clock speed) and also keep the mouse working well?

    Hey Barrett_killz,
      Welcome to the forums
I would suggest you trying out a different USB mouse and see if that helps
Cant suggest anything else as you have already uninstalled and installed the Drivers
    keep me posted

  • Imagent is eating up all my ram within a minute

This morning on both my air and imac running 10.7.3 imagent process is devouring my ram within a minute briniging bioth computers to a crawl and then message out of applicaiotn memory. Force quitting the imagent process restarts ichat and the memory hog cuycle all over again...help.

The same happened (for the first time) to me today - my solution was simply to uninstall iMessage beta and reinstall iChat again. This issue is being reported in many different threads, so it must be something that needs to be resolved by Apple before launching Mountain Lion.

  • My mac got too slow within certain minutes

    Hello,
I've got a huge problem with my iMac: -
    iMac from 2012
    8GB Ram
    3,4 GHz i7 Quadcore
    1 TB hard disk
    AMD HD 6970M 2GB
    - within only minutes, my mac got unbelievable slow. Way too slow.
    Certain examples:
My mac isn't able to show the clock on the dashboard fluently, that means, the second hand does two steps, and then the mac stops for 10-15 seconds. The again two steps, then it stops again..
My mac is useless. After every click with the mouse, the colored circle comes up, and I have to wait for 10-15 seconds.
I didn't change anything when this problem comes up. On the harddisk is more than 25% free space.
I am absolutely confused and frustrated.
I should tell you, that my windows partition on the Mac hard disc works without any problems, so actually the problem cannot be any hardware issues... I think..
Please, Please help me, I need my mac.
    Greetings
    Tim

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • After I type in my login details and press "enter" on a website, Firefox freezes for around half minute.

After I type in my login details and press "enter" on a website, Firefox freezes for around half minute. This has gone on for around 5 months. I've tried disabling add-ons to my Firefox but they don't seem to affect this problem. My version is 17.0.1.
How do I combat this problem? Many thanks in advance.

    Provide the website name.
'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
