ARD 3.7 customer installer isn't creating user

Just got and install ARD a week ago and am having trouble getting the installer to create the user I specify in installer. It seems to work on older version of OSX but not 10.9. Is anyone else having this issue?
It could also not be OSX but something I'm doing wrong when creating the installer...

Hi There, thanks for your reply.
I tried your solution but unfortunately, it did not work, verification failed. Three of the 10 computers resolve to a .local name, 3 to an ethernet address and the rest to their local IPs. I have installed 3.7.1 client software on all the machines, but ARD reports that they are still using 3.3.1 and therefore running software that is 'too old to support this action'.
All machines are reported in a continual 'sleeping' state and I cannot change their state, even if I log in locally.....
Cheers
Marco

  • Custom installer

I am new to this and am creating an installer for a new cluster of emacs in another area of my school. This will be managed by a second teacher.
If I am to manage all the emacs from my laptop - I have already set up my admin settings for the other cluster of emacs - how do I set this up using the custom installer?
Is there any other settings that I would need to set in the custom installer - or would I just use the other options?
We do not have server software so I am setting up 8 different users relating to their year group on each of the machines - so they do not actually have their own user area but share it with many users from their year group.
Many thanks for any assistance - I have read much of the help files but am still struggling!!!

Are you referring to creating an ARD Client custom installer?
How were these other lab macs configured? Does this teacher already have an admin acct on them? Is ARD already enabled and configured for this admin?
    From Help:
    Creating a Custom Client Installer
To install the Apple Remote Desktop client software on computers, you use the administrator application, Remote Desktop, to create a custom client installer. The custom client installer not only installs the Apple Remote Desktop system software, but can create user names and passwords on the client computer with their Apple Remote Desktop privileges already assigned. You'll use an assistant to create a custom client installer package. Any values set in the custom installer will apply to all the computers that receive the installation.
While creating a custom installer, you will have a chance to create new Apple Remote Desktop administrator user names with passwords, and automatically set Apple Remote Desktop access privileges and preferences.
WARNING: Custom installer packages that create user names contain sensitive password data. Take care to store and transmit such custom installers securely.
    Open Remote Desktop.
Choose File > Create Client Installer.
The Custom Installer Setup Assistant appears.
Choose to create a custom installer and click Continue.
If you choose not to create a custom installer, you can create a basic installer that sets no preferences on the client computer.
Click Continue to begin creating a custom installer.
Choose whether to start Remote Desktop sharing at system startup.
This changes the setting found in the Sharing pane of System Preferences.
Choose whether to hide or show the Apple Remote Desktop menu bar icon.
    Click Continue.
Choose whether to create a new user for Apple Remote Desktop login. Click Continue.
A new user account can be created to grant Apple Remote Desktop administrator privileges. Creating a new user account does not overwrite existing user accounts or change existing user passwords.
If you choose not to create a new user account, skip to step 10 after clicking Continue.
Add a new user by clicking Add and filling in the appropriate information.
Click OK after adding each user, and click Continue when you're ready to go on.
Choose whether to assign Apple Remote Desktop administrator access privileges to Directory Services groups.
If you choose to do so, select "Enable directory-based administration."
See Apple Remote Desktop Administrator Access Using Directory Services for more information on using this method to grant Apple Remote Desktop administrator access.
Choose whether to assign Apple Remote Desktop administrator access privileges to specific users. Click Continue.
If you choose not to assign administrator access privileges, skip to step 14.
Click Add to designate a user to receive Apple Remote Desktop access privileges.
Provide the user's short name and set the privileges as desired.
Click OK after each user, and click Continue when you're ready to go on.
Choose whether to allow temporary guest control by requesting permission on the client computers.
See Removing or Disabling Apple Remote Desktop for more information.
Choose whether to allow non-Apple VNC viewers to control the client computers, and click Continue.
See Virtual Network Computing Access for more information.
If desired, select and enter information in any or all of the four System Data fields.
This information appears in Apple Remote Desktop System Overview reports. For example, you can enter an inventory number for the computer, a serial number, or a user's name and telephone number.
    Click Continue.
Select a location for the installer.
Click Continue to create the installer.
An installer metapackage (.mpkg file) is created in the designated location.
    Click Done.

  • Error while Creating user using Custome form

    Hi,
I created a custom form same as create user form
    updated in xlDefaultAdmin.properties,xlWebAdmin_en_US.properties,struts-config.xml
on this custom every thing is working fine but when on submit(Create User) it gives me below error
in Admin Console : You do not have permissions to perform this operation.
in App server log: maoRejections:You do not have permission to insert this object.

My response is based on the following assumptions:
Your custom form is similar to that of CreateUser form in all manners. The logic at the back-end has been written by you as well. As soon as you get all the values you call the createUser API of OIM to create the user. You have wriiten your custom action classes as well.
The insert error may be due to the reason that the user which you are using to create the user doesn't have sufficient permissions. In other words, if this is done through Java code then while instaniating the API, the user used must be missing these permissions.
If the error is due to this permission for users then we can give these additional permissions to individual users, if in case its not and you have some other scenario then just give me more details, probably I can help you for it.
    Thanks

  • Adding Custom Attributes in Search/Create iView

    Hi,
I am able to create "Customized Information" in Search/Create user iView which is under User Administration Role. For example "CustomerCode" attribute I created in Search/Create iView. Also able to retrieve the "CustomerCode" value in the iViews.
But the iView which I am using must have Role "super_admin_role", which is not the requirement.
Can someone tell me how I can use the iView without having "super_admin_role" Role.

  • Can't create a custom installer ARD 3.6.1 + OSX 10.8.3

    Hi guys,
I am new to ARD, and straight out of the gate I've got issues!!
I can't create a custom installer, its giving me the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer."
I've done some searching and the only issues I can find are form older versions back in 2007!
If I choose to not customise an installer is saves fine, but as soon as I customise one I get that error.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • "An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer."

    All;
I—and I've seen several others in older posts—have been reported received the error "An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer" while attampting to build a customer ARD client installer.  My guess is that this is do to a issue related to 10.8.X (10.8.4, in my case) based console Mac but I cannot confirm this. I have verified that there are no outstanding OS, client or application updates or hot fixes, as well.
Has anyone built an successful installer from Mountain Lion-installed Mac?  Is there any know workarounds?
Thanks in advance, for any help.

    Have the exact same problem.
    iMac running 10.8.4
Got through the steps of creating a custom client installer.
if I choose not to customize and just save an installer I don't get the error but it creates a file of Zero bytes in size.
If I chose to configure, when I try to save I get:
An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer. Please try again....
    Console log reports:
9/1/13 12:32:29.603 AM Remote Desktop[1306]: open on /private/tmp/RemoteDesktopClientInstaller_HEATyAJ5CR/extracted/RemoteDesktopCli ent.pkg/Scripts/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg: No such file or directory
I have tried to save this in several location, with no effect on the error or the information logged, with the exception of the name of the temp directory that DOES contains the file (zero bytes):
    RemoteDesktopClient.pkg

  • Create custom installation media

I would like to create a custom installation media DVD that will install Solaris 10, then install some of my custom applications. As time goes on, I would like to update the install media with security patches and other changes. What would be the best method to approach this? Flash install?

I managed to get this working. I used the Distribution Constructor to add my software to the ISO and it gets installed fine when I build from the new ISO.
I now want to go one step further and make my software optional (or even configurable) at install time, rather than at ISO creation time.
Does anyone know how I can hook into the Solaris 11 (text) Installer and prompt "Do you want to install XYZ package" and have the installer act accordingly on the response given by the user?

  • Can't install Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1 custom installer on Lion 10.7.3

Ever since Lion 10.7.3 was released, I've not been able to install the custom client installer package that I've made with Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1.
The error I get is "Remote Desktop Client Update can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed".
I'm guessing this is to do with Apple releasing the ARD 3.5.2 client, but not releasing a new server.
Is there any way of me tweaking the custom installer, so this can be installed? Or do I have have to wait for ARD server to be upgraded to 3.5.2? :-|

I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
    pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
    cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
    pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
    cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
    pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.
    Hope that helps

  • CONTRACT JOB POSTING:Custom Installer Project for AIR app

We have  a large AIR app which will require a custom installer. If you have experience with Windows MSI installer let me know if you are interested in this contract job and I will provide details.

    Joe,
Thanks for your helpful response. I think you're right that the database management steps would happen on app startup after checking a version number stored in the DB.
What I'm wondering, however, is if there's a best practice for managing these incremental changes to the DB. My current direction is to create a class MigrationsManager, that creates an array of class Migration ( with a single migrate() function ) to manage each necessary and incremental change. Meanwhile, a "migrations" table has one column "version" with a UTC timestamp as an integer and is updated on each migration.
Rails does migrations with up() and down() functions on their base migration class, but the down() function isn't applicable since I can't imagine I would be rolling back earlier migrations on a user's DB.
In the end, I guess I'm just fishing of the best way of managing the different scenarios encountered when 3 years down the road you have an audience with all kinds of different versions of your app/db because of differences in how assiduous they were in updating to the most recent version.

  • Custom installer and database migrations

Has anybody blogged or have info on the process of creating custom installers for AIR? I mean complete custom installers not just a silent install of the runtime and then the AIR installer?
I want to be able to install my AIR application's sqlite database on a fresh install, but leave the current database and update it through ActionScript if the install is replacing an earlier version of my app. My feeling is that, in addition to copying the basic files from the project directory, the customer installer just needs to remember to rename the MyApp-config.xml and place it in META-INF/AIR/application
Any ideas about a pattern for approaching DB migrations would be most appreciated! I like how rails migrations work, and am thinking to try to create something similar internally within my app to manage the sequence of database changes that would be needed between the user's current version of our app and the new one they're installing.
I think an upcoming incremental release of AIR will have some installer changes...is that right?
Thanks for any help or ideas!

  • 11g R2 Custom Installation

I have been asked to install and test Oracle 11g ODBC driver to connect to 11g DB for a legacy application and I'm trying to have a minimized installed. I am new to Oracle FYI. I am using Windows 7.
If I select Custom Installation Type and select 'Oracle ODBC Driver' only, do I need any other components to test this connection from .Net or Toad?
I have seen an Instant Client with ODBC installer but I am not sure which direction to go.

    Hi,
If you do a Custom installation and select ONLY the ODBC driver, it will also install the dependencies (ie, Oracle client) along with that, which will give you all the pieces you need to connect to a remote Oracle database. You'll need to create a tnsnames.ora file manually (or copy one) though if you're going to use tnsnames.
I'd recommend though, if you go that route, to also install sqplus at the same time, as then you'll have a way to confirm client connectivity outside of ODBC.
Instant client would also work, and be much smaller, but it's a little trickier as far as the setup goes.. nothing drastic, but going the OUI route instead it will pretty much "just work" after the OUI finishes. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html
    Hope it helps,
    correction/comments welcome.

  • Custom Installation for non European languages

    Hi,
While installing JRE (particularly 1.4.2_XX ) in custom mode, second option enables user to support for additional languages.
The disk size requirement is 18 MB but after installation i figured out that it takes ~8 MB.
As per documentation at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/intl/locale.doc.html#jfc-table , it states that JDK on windows has language support installed as a default but for JRE custom installation is required.
I have following question related to this installation
    - What files are updated with this installation? I found few files e.g. charset.jar , font files are installed within JRE installation directory.
    - Does this installation updates/adds any Windows System files/font/registry?
The question has arrived as our Swing application hangs with JRE and works fine with on JDK on event of inserting thai character into JTextPane.
Any help will be highly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Advait

    Hello Advait,
The custom feature you are refering to is related to this RFE:
4508848 "Small" J2RE for Windows should include Western European languages
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4508848
It implies selecting "support for additional languages" would include lib/charset.jar and lib/ext/localedata.jar.
This feature was also described in http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/changes.html
    Internationalization
The following changes have been made to internationalization functionality in J2SE 1.4.2.
    * Installation of the J2RE on Windows has changed, with impact on the supported locales. There now is a single installer, which by default installs a runtime with support for European languages if the Windows host system only supports such languages, or a runtime with support for all languages if the Windows host system supports at least one non-European language. Users can request installation of additional languages in a custom setup. For complete information on which locales and encodings are supported with which installation, see the Supported Locales and Supported Encodings documents. For general information, see internationalization.
Regarding your second question, I received the answer from our install engineer:
Yes, the installer creates many registries, and we copy java.exe/javaw.exe/javaws.exe to the Windows system directory.
I am not sure why your Swing application hangs with JRE. Did you select the "support for additional language" option during installation? (I assume you did, correct?)
    thanks,
    miko

  • Force custom installation with Packagemaker/Iceberg

    Hi everyone,
I'm building an installer for After Effects plug-ins, and I need the end user to select either the AE 6.5 or AE 7.0 version to install from the Custom Installation menu in the metapackage installer I've created.
The issue is I want the Custom Installer page to pop up as soon as the user selects the installation Volume and the installation directory. Currently, if you choose the Volume and Directory, it goes straight to the Easy Installation page, and I don't want this to happen, since click-happy users are going to try to blaze right through the installer and install to the wrong location.
In 10.4, this is possible by leaving both installer packages in the metapackage set to "Unselected," which makes the user select the install destination, plus choose which version to install. I need this to work in OS 10.3.9, but I just can't get it to work the same way with both packages unselected. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • New Platform in Oracle Lite - Custom Installation

    Hi all,
I read from the Oracle Lite documentation that the Oracle Lite setup can be customized. For trial I was able to modify the ppc60.inf and push my custom cab file, create a custom directory, install a cab file.
I would actually want to perform the same steps for my custom setup apart from using the same setup as I donot want to disturb that provided by Oracle Lite. I see from the documentation "5.2.2 Installing Standard SDK WinCE 5.0 CAB Files for Your Mobile Client" this can be achieved. I followed the steps in these.
I created an ini file and registered it with the server repository running the dmloader. I have placed my cab files and the inf file in the appropriate mobile server installation folders. This is my ini file content.
    [PLATFORM]]
    Oracle MCP;US
    [PLATFORM.Oracle MCP;US]
    TYPE=WINCE_ARMV4I_US_OLITE_MCP
    INF=olite_mcp.inf
    BOOTSTRAP=DeviceInfo
    ATTRIBUTES=update=true&enabled=true&app_upgrade=true&dmc=auto
I got the new platform in the setup screen as Oracle MCP in the US section. But when I click it in a Win32 machine I get an error as "Access Denied: Oracle MCP;US Resource no found: WINCE_ARMV4I_US_OLITE_MCP" and on a WinCE machine the page navigates to an error page showing all the platforms available. I am not sure of the folders to be created for placing the setup.exe are correct, how do we get the setup.exe for the for the custom installation and if there are any other extra steps to be done.
If anyone has come across this, could you please help me out ? Thanks in advance
