Create custom installation media

I would like to create a custom installation media DVD that will install Solaris 10, then install some of my custom applications. As time goes on, I would like to update the install media with security patches and other changes. What would be the best method to approach this? Flash install?

I managed to get this working. I used the Distribution Constructor to add my software to the ISO and it gets installed fine when I build from the new ISO.
I now want to go one step further and make my software optional (or even configurable) at install time, rather than at ISO creation time.
Does anyone know how I can hook into the Solaris 11 (text) Installer and prompt "Do you want to install XYZ package" and have the installer act accordingly on the response given by the user?

Additional Instructions for Creating USB Installation Media

Greeting Everyone,
I have been trying to install archlinux on my Acer c720 chromebook. The instructions have been posted on one of the forums and I have been following them and ran into a bit of a problem. For some mysterious reason using Syslinux as the bootloader (I think I got that right) puts the C720 into reboot immediately. The forums indicate that I should use GRUB instead of Syslinux. Great! That is exactly what I want to do, and here is the problem:
The instructions for creating the USB Flash Installation Media give step by step instructions for getting archlinux.iso and Syslinux on to the USB memory stick - which I followed and succeeded- but no instructions on how to put GRUB on there instead of Syslinux.
Could someone give me instructions on how to do that.
I am following the "Manual Formatting" --- "In Windows" section of the wiki titled "USB Flash Installation Media."
Just so everyone knows this is my first venture into linux world and away from point and click windows world.....

Yes I used the following images from archlinux.org:
archlinux-2013.10.01-dual.iso
archlinux-2014.01.05-dual.iso
and the third was from a random selection from the drop down menu in LiLi USB creator.
Yes I have followed the instructions from the installation wiki and was able to get the developer mode and to the boot menu on the c720 and able to select USB to boot from.
As I mentioned earlier I had success using the method for creating a USB Installation in the wiki (under "Using manual formatting", "In Windows" https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media ) I was able to get the archlinux splash screen and it tries to install but resets. And I figured out that this happens because following the instructions I end up with archlinux and Syslinux on the USB and I need arclinux and GRUB.
Hence my request for additional instructions for getting archlinux and GRUB onto a USB for installation.
I will try the USB installation created using LiLi on a different computer - it is much older though and I am not sure it has enough memory for it.

What is possible and what is legal are two different subjects.
To answer your specific question, the answer depends on your intentions. The link to the information about the ei.cfg file is under the heading of the Windows Automated Installation Kit and is also associated with the Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM), ImageX, Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), and the User State Migration Tool (USMT).
These tools and information are clearly meant for the ITPro who may be creating custom installation media for deployment across an organization with a large number of systems that would typically be using volume license keys.
For a typical home user who has one or more systems, you purchase a version of Windows which includes a product key for that specific version that is designed to install on one computer. The installation disk included with that product key is designed to install only the version that was purchased and can be activated with that product key.
Microsoft does not normally distribute 'trial' versions of Windows, unless there are special circumstances such as the recent Windows 7 beta where there were 2 official versions (Beta and RC) and an evaluation version (Enterprise RTM). All of these versions are time limited and will eventually stop working, which will require the user to purchase a retail version if they decide to keep using the product.
The product key is everything. This represents the license type (OEM or Retail) and version (Starter, Home premium, etc) that you have purchased and authorizes you to install one copy of Windows, on one computer, that can be activated using that product key. Installing a copy of any other version or type would be a clear violation of the licensing agreement.

Can't create a custom installer ARD 3.6.1 + OSX 10.8.3

Hi guys,
I am new to ARD, and straight out of the gate I've got issues!!
I can't create a custom installer, its giving me the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer."
I've done some searching and the only issues I can find are form older versions back in 2007!
If I choose to not customise an installer is saves fine, but as soon as I customise one I get that error.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

I—and I've seen several others in older posts—have been reported received the error "An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer" while attampting to build a customer ARD client installer. My guess is that this is do to a issue related to 10.8.X (10.8.4, in my case) based console Mac but I cannot confirm this. I have verified that there are no outstanding OS, client or application updates or hot fixes, as well.
Has anyone built an successful installer from Mountain Lion-installed Mac? Is there any know workarounds?

Got through the steps of creating a custom client installer.
if I choose not to customize and just save an installer I don't get the error but it creates a file of Zero bytes in size.
If I chose to configure, when I try to save I get:

I have tried to save this in several location, with no effect on the error or the information logged, with the exception of the name of the temp directory that DOES contains the file (zero bytes):

Need to create, build, or obtain the Windows 7 INSTALLATION media, not the recovery stuff

I want to be able to install Windows 7 on a Thinkpad WITHOUT all the factory installed stuff. I DO NOT NEED the recovery image "solution" that comes preinstalled on the laptop. I need to be able to create a clean Windows 7 installtion that we can image and deploy without the preloaded stuff.
Basically, is there a way, and if so, how do I create a Windows 7 INSTALLATION media, not the recovery stuff? If this can't be done, do I need to purchase the media from Lenovo? An example of what I'm looking for: Dell makes it very easy to do this. You can create the Windows 7 installation media. Just like the Windows XP and 2000 CD/DVD's they used to ship.

I'm taking a guess that you're looking for a vanilla Win 7 installer download. As sarbin said, if that's not your issue, please start another thread. (At least this will update that stale link - for a while.)

I'm in a similar situation to yours. I have an ancient MacBook Pro (1,1) with a broken optical drive, and any attempts to get EFI boot working with Linux have resulted in no graphics.
My solution has been to first install Mac OS X via USB, then install Refind. After that, Refind will recognise Arch USB media during boot and you can install.
I'm only booting Linux, so my solution has been to use MBR on the hard drive. That forces the machine to use the BIOS compatability mode.

Creating Installation Media component for Database Provisioning in OEM 12c

When creating installation media to use in a database provisioning procedure, do I have to unzip and rezip Disk 1 and 2 before I load them into OEM? I mean can't I just upload the zip files and tell OEM which is the "Main File" via the drop down box in the "Specify Source" section of the "Select Files" tab of the software library entity page?

T410s to 64bit (4GB ram) - Order recovery media or custom installation?

I just bought a T410s with 4GB but as it came with 32bit Windows 7 Pro, I can only use 3GB.I need the whole amount of memory so I need to upgrade to 64 bits.
The main question .Is the cost logical to go for a recovery media through Lenovo Support centre or should I go the custom installation path? If anyone knows in european prices the approx. cost I would be thankful.

Since you already have a Windows 7 Pro product key, you can legally download a 64-bit Windows 7 Pro ISO from Microsoft and give it your Windows 7 key found on the machine's underside. However, non-Lenovo installs don't have Enhanced Experience, so that'll be a point of consideration.
Drivers are easy; you simply download the ThinkVantage System Update tool and it can download and install all of the necessary drivers in one simple procedure.

Windows 10 media creation tool closes after creating installation media

I have just upgraded my Windows 8 PC to Windows 8.1. Now I wanted to upgrade it to Windows 10, and for that I downloaded the media creation tool and used the "UPGRADE MY PC NOW" option. It downloaded fine and after the download it went to Verification and then to Creating Installation Media for Windows 10.After it was complete to 100% , the Window immediately closed and nothing happened. Any help?

I would create the bootable media and upgrade using that. You will need a 8gb or larger flash drive, once created you boot from that and start the upgrade process.

ARD 3.7 customer installer isn't creating user

Just got and install ARD a week ago and am having trouble getting the installer to create the user I specify in installer. It seems to work on older version of OSX but not 10.9. Is anyone else having this issue?
It could also not be OSX but something I'm doing wrong when creating the installer...

I tried your solution but unfortunately, it did not work, verification failed. Three of the 10 computers resolve to a .local name, 3 to an ethernet address and the rest to their local IPs. I have installed 3.7.1 client software on all the machines, but ARD reports that they are still using 3.3.1 and therefore running software that is 'too old to support this action'.
All machines are reported in a continual 'sleeping' state and I cannot change their state, even if I log in locally.....

TestStand Deployment Installer Media Spanning

I am creating an installer from the TestStand Deployment Utility. There is a media spanning option that permits selection of various media sizes: CD, extended CD, DVD, etc... I have created a deployment / installer (659MB) that exceeds the threshold for the standard CD (650MB). I would expect 2 volumes to be created in the deployment /installer build directory: Volume 1 and Volume 2. This is not the case, only Volume 1 is created, it exceeds the 650MB limit.

Were you able to test this with a custom media size like 250 MB? Both Shawn and I were able to get the 650 MB and 250 MB media spanning scenarios working. I'd like to rule out the possibility that your deployment is so close to 650 MB cutoff that the media is not being separated into 2 volumes.
If the custom media size (250 MB) case also fails for you, then we will have a better idea of what might be causing this.

Create Client Installer Failing

I have a brand new Mac Mini running Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1 on Lion 10.7.3 that I am trying to create a custom client installer and right at the end it fails every single time. Saying that "An unexpected error has occured while creating a custom installer. Please try again"
Anyone else getting this issue? at all

Custom Installer Issues with 3.5.2 Client and 3.5.1 Admin
Do you have a computer that is pre ARD client update 3.5.2? if so, you could try making your installer with ARD on that client. And you could report the issue.
And you can always send Feedback about ARD to Apple.
In thread Can't install Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1 custom installer on Lion 10.7.3, Eric Shaheen suggested looking in //private/tmp/RemoteDesktopClientInstaller/ to see if ARD actually did create the installer; and if so, to copy it to the desktop. in the same thread gavin0001 said he was able to modify the 3.5.2 client update to make a custom installer.
You might also want to check out thread I can't get Custom Installer to create accounts on Lion. I'm using ARD 3.5.1.
