ARD3 wants serial number at every launch

Every time I launch ARD3 it asks for the serial number again. The only thing I could find in the knowledge base was to make sure you're logged in as an admin before registering the software. Well, I'm always logged in as admin, so that's not the problem. The same thing happens on all 3 of my Macs. Any ideas how to get it to hang onto the registration and serial number??
Thanks,
Rich
iMac G5 iSight - not Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

had the same problem before..
make sure you are running as Administrator. If you
are using ARD as limited user, you will get that
message everytime because the serial number file does
not have permission to write to the library folder.
login as administrator and it should remember the
serial numbers.
As I said above, I definitely am logged in as an admin, so it's some other problem. Still have not been able to figure it out. Tried full uninstall and re-install. Tried a different serial number. I set up a test admin account and it works fine in that and remembers the serial number. It just won't remember it in my main admin account.

  • ARD asking for serial number at every launch

    Hello,
Apple replaced the logic board in my laptop last week. Since getting the machine back, a lot of software needed to have its license info re-entered, but ARD is persistently asking for its serial number to be re-entered every time I launch the app.
After removing all of the obvious Remote-Desktop-related files from /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences, a first launch of ARD prompts me to accept the EULA, then create an ARD master password, then asks for the serial/name/organization, followed by Task Manager and report collection setup screens. Subsequently, a quit/relaunch brings up the serial/name/organization screen and the Task Manager setup, which is exactly what I began seeing after the logic board replacement.
As a workaround, I have my ARD serial loaded in TextExpander, but I'd appreciate some suggestions on what I have to do to fix this permanently. In every case when it's presented the serial number dialog, going back to the very first time after the logic board swap, it's pre-filled my name and organization from the first time I registered ARD 3, so there's clearly some data squirreled away that I haven't been able to find yet.
I'm using direct-sale ARD 3.6.1, on 10.8.2. Thanks for your time.

    Another attempt to help.
Create a new user and see if ARD works any differently in the new account.
If not, then just consider this another bump

    1) Every version of all Adobe software has worked like this. It was the faulty upgrade of the Windows OS to 64-bit that resulted in this behavior. I believe we still don't know why this only happened to a small number of systems, but it is most likely tied to system processor (we have seen such issues in the past) and probably something to do with the BIOS as well.
    2) Not at all. As with all versions of Adobe applications, you can install the software for use on two machines. The activation process lets you lock your serial number to two different Machine ID's at a time. If you want to change machines, you can use the deactivation process to decouple your serial number from your Machine ID for use on a different computer.
2a) Yes, precisely. The Machine ID swap seems to be tied to rebooting the computer and it is generally switching back and forth between a 32-bit and a 64-bit identity. I'm not aware of how to do a local call to get this particular ID off a computer. It is tied to the actual hardware of the machine. This ID should only changed when you do some major modifications to the machine, such as swapping out the processor.
    3) You can do this yourself. Just go to Help > Deactivate.
    4) Again, yes. This has been used for every version of Adobe applications. However, we have made updates to the system that have taken card of this behavior. I have not heard of this issue happening with any of our subscription customers.
    5) Unfortunately, this is not possible for legal reasons.
    6) The Adobe Application Manager is the precursor to the Creative Cloud desktop app. They use the same core technologies, but there have been a number of updates to the make it the desktop app. They are very different in appearance. Here are some screenshots of the desktop app: Sign out, Sign in | Creative Cloud Desktop app
    7) Hopefully, those new threads are in the correct forums. The Photoshop product forum is not the correct place to have discussions on this topic. Posts of this nature should be going to Adobe Licensing or Downloading, Installing, Setting Up

I've got my serial number but every download I go to for XI Pro iopens up as DC, I didn't purchase DC?

    Hi Larry ,
As Acrobat DC is the new version of Acrobat available .This could be the reason it is navigating you to that page .
Is this the first time you are trying to download Acrobat XI pro ?If yes then you would not be able to download Acrobat XI as Adobe stops selling the previous versions as soon there is a new version in the market .
If not , then I would recommend you to refer the following link to download Acrobat XI pro .

  • Adobe Reader X Pro serial number popup on launch (windows 7)

    Hi Folks
I have Adobe CS6 and part of this volume licence comes Adober reder X. 10.0.0
Unfortunately I'm having issues when deploying the Adober reader X package, I get a popup saying I have x amount of days left of my trial. (and it is actually counting down)
I've allocated the CS6 suite out to many PC's maybe 700 or so, and then allocated the Adobe reder X pro out. This is a side loading application from my understanding and depends on the full CS6 to be out first.  The results I'm finding are mixed. Some staions are working fine, no popup's what so ever and others when opening a PDF or launch the application will produce the popup. This does seem to be computer specific I've tested the same network user on different stations and get different results. working, not working! I've also tried the full suite + adobe reader x pro on windows XP stations and so far it's never had the same issues, unfortunately out networks are quickly moving to windows 7, this seems to be the OS I have the problems with. I've not fully checked the difference with installed application from one station from another, I can do if required but most stations get the same apps installed via a 3rd party deployment tool.
I used the Customisation wizard to create the application and cut down on as many popups/updates as possible using this little tool.  All works as you would expect apart from this serial number behaviour.  This is causing major issues in all our education establishments and I really need to find some solution to this problem that doesn't involve de-installing the applications, it's too far spread.
I've been readign the forums and see a few different issues relating to serial number popup issues.  Is this a software design fault?

    Hi,
You've provided details about the problem, but not about your configuration and deployment steps.
First, follow the steps in the Admin and Wizard Guides here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/index.html. Pay attention to the Activation methodologies. You may have done all that, but double check.
At the bottom of the installation workflows section, you'll also find this: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/licensing.html#acrobat-standa lone-and-aamee
There is additional doc for Acrobat delivered with CS here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html

Doogy, I'm sorry nobody here seems to be able or willing to help you, but I will, believe me, I will. Actually, the solution to your problem is so easy I don't understand why you haven't figured it out nor has anybody told you how to do it yet:
Just enter the serial number the applications are asking for!
    HTH... Really!
Edited: Sorry, forgot to say that there is an application that could help you find the right serial numbers:

  • Acrobat 8 suddenly asks for serial number, won't launch

I have Acrobat Professional 8.1.3 as part of CS3 Design Premium, student license. Acrobat was not a separate disk. It was installed along with the rest of CS3 and always launched normally. Today, it requested the serial number and would not launch without it. It is acting as if it isn't registered. Rest of the suite is launching normally. I input the serial number from the disk, and it is rejected as incorrect. What is going on?

    Just FYI - It's a known issue.
    Here is the link:

  • CS2 suddenly wants serial number

I currently am running a combination of CS2 and CS3. I have CS2 versions of In Design, Photoshop , Illustrator etc. I have CS3 versions of PS, DW, AI, Flash etc. All have been operating successfully for years. Suddenly CS2 In Design is requesting a serial number. When I input the number , which is the same for all my CS2 Aps, it is rejected. I tried a reinstall, since I initially upgraded  to CS2 from a Photoshop 5, the installation is requesting the location of an existing photoshop on my main drive. I point to CS2 Photoshop and it is rejected. All my software is legit and I've been buying and upgrading my Adobe software for 18 years. All my other CS2 Aps are opening just fine with the same serial number, Unfortunately, I really no longer need the other CS2 Aps, since I have the CS3 versions, The only CS2 ap I use is In Design.I am also concerned about the re-install of CS2, since I obviously don't want to over wrirte my CS3 Aps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I hope I haven't made this question too confusing
    Thanks
    Herb

Thanks Bob. I got your reply just as I was trying another reinstall. I had just removed Version Cue CS2. (I only use InDesign and Go live CS2. All others are CS3).
Do I need to reinstall Version cue Cs2 or can I live without it?
Also, the Tech notes link you provided to me was dated Jan, 2010. Do you know if Adobe has released a patch for this issue (its been 4 months). I'm thinking I might have missed it.
    Thanks again for you help

  • Aperture requests serial number after every reboot due to improper permissions on ProAppsSystemID

Background: if Aperture doesn't have write access to /Library/Application Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID then it continually prompts for registration information, and stores it in /tmp/ProAppsSystemID. On restart this tmp file is removed, and thus re-requested every time.
The resolution for this issue is to:
open Aperture and re-enter your registration / serial number (for the last time)
    close Aperture
Execute these commands in your terminal:
    mv /tmp/ProAppsSystemID ~/Library/Application\ Support/Aperture
    sudo rm /Library/Application\ Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID
    sudo ln -s ~/Library/Application\ Support/Aperture/ProAppsSystemID \
      /Library/Application\ Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID
    restart Aperture
What we are doing here is replacing the actual license file with a link to the same file where we can write to it.
Question: why is this required? Files like this should be stored in ~/Library/... or created only during registration, with admin prompt, and then read only from then on.

    Thanks Leonie,
Your replies on this issue elsewhere lead me to the solution.
The issue is that the *installer* doesn't require write access, but actually Aperture itself, every time it runs. That's crazy given I'm not changing the licence every time. The upgrade to Aperture came via the App Store, so I'm at a loss why it requires these broken unix permissions to run *every* time.
User differs on “Library/Application Support/ProApps”; should be 0; user is 502.
If you use disk utility to repair permissions, it will fix these broken permissions, and again Aperture will prompt you for licence information every time. So Apple needs to fix this, and store the licences where everybody else does in /Library/Preferences and fix their application to use read-only permissions on startup.
This might vary on how the application was installed, maybe the full App Store release doesn't do this any longer.
I don't have a Library/ProApps folder, and I don't run my mac users with Admin permissions by default, it's a classic security risk. I guess this is why you're not seeing this issue.

  • Muse CC 2014 wants Serial Number, though i pay monthly for muse

Than i got two version of muse on my pc.

Do i need to deactivate the old versions?
need some, cause this sucks, when you pay monthly and it doesn't work.
