Are ADF BC4J based on database package procedures?

Hi all!
Is it possible to create ADF BC4J components base on database package procedures like building ORACLE FORMS blocks on case generated module api?
If yes, how can I achieve this? In the wizards I only see tables, views an so on!
regards

• ADF BC4J unable to connect to database on Application Server 10.1.3.1.0

Hi,
We had an ADF BC4J application deployed on application server 10.1.3.
We recently migrated the application server to 10.1.3.1.0 (SOA Suite).
The look up is made via JNDI and as far as I can tell my JNDI tree is empty.
This can be checked by going to OC4J_Instance > Administration > JNDI Browser.
The stack trace follows:

The datasource is properly configured and I can test it, so all i can assume is that the jndi lookup is failing and the default datasource which by the way doesnt exist on this oc4j instance is getting used.
Once again i stress that there is no data on the JNDI browser.
Any lights?
Thx in advance

Hello Steve. I'm getting the same error message as Carlos got when he tried to fire up the SRDemo. Following logon the splash screen has this error message:
Error
Failed to checkout SRService application module. Ensure your datasource name is SRDemo [case-sensitive!] and that connection settings are properly defined for a database with the SRDEMO schema installed. See server log for more exception details...
Apparently you guys have figured out a fix for this, but my command of JDeveloper/J2EE jargon is pretty limited at this point in my learning curve. (I've heard about Jndi, but have no idea what it does). Is there a statement I can add to the web.xml file that will fix this? If so, what is that statement, and where does it go in web.xml?
Thanks in advance.

• How to autopopulate fields in a portal form based on database procedure?

Dear gurus, I am a newbie to the portal world and i have a rather unique problem. I have searched online but still cant find a solution to my problem. I have a portal form (AS version 10.1.4) based on a db procedure that accepts only one parameter. The form has about 12 fields, two of which are combo boxes. Because of the relationship b/n combo box 1 and combo box 2 and the rest of the form fields, the user has to start out by selecting a value in combo box 1. This auto populates combo box 2 (based on the previous selection). However, when the user selects a value from the populated combo box 2, this is supposed to trigger an action to query the database and retrieve values for the remainder of the form fields and populate them accordingly.
I tried to use p_session.get and set values but discovered that one cannot do this with form fields that are based on a procedure. I could write javascript to call a database procedure but i am not sure how to pass the return values from the database back to the javascript routine and then populate the remaining fields accordingly.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
Thanks

Hi Venkat, create a section (section control) for each set of columns you want to hide/reveal. Put your columns in that section. Then set a rule on the dropdown so that if dropdown = "this" then show "this" section.

• Local Procedures Calling Database Packages

I have a procedure in a form which is calling a procedure in a database package. There are various parameters being sent to the package. The package is not executing. If I copy the same code of the package in to the form procedure, the same code is executing.
One of the paramters being passed to the package is null. Is it that you cannot pass a null value to a database package or is there some other thing that I need to check?

Definitely, the cause of the problem isn4t the null parameter. I frequently do this and it works. Analyze your package better.

• Database package (stored procedure) seems to be hanging

Hi,
Our application seems to be hanging after executing a database package repeatedly. It happens after 5-10 invocations of the same package in a loop. Any ideas why this happens?
Thanks in advance,

Narayana,
Your really going to have to give more detail than "it hangs and we don't know why". I always use a program called TOP SESSIONS in OEM to monitor a running process. It's a good place to start. If you don't have that query v$session and find the session that is running that package. Normally good coders have trace tables they write debug into (with a debug flag on every proc), so that when you run a procedure/function/package it begins recording that it's doing so you can monitor it's process. It sound like you don't have any kind of tracing going on so you have no idea what's happening. Even use DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE to show where it is at in the code.
Also in regards to that top sessions program (OEM 1.6), there is one called lock manager. The newer OEM might have this I don't know, I don't use it. But the initial process your running might be opening locks and keeping them open, thus other packages fire and are still waiting for the first one to let go. Are you killing the first session BEFORE firing off the next?
Try and get some monitoring tools, many are free to download like Oracle's OEM, so you can monitor what's going on. However but you really need to record some kind of trace in your code so when it runs you can see what step it is at when it does hang. Also check for TRACE files that progress might be making and the alert log as well (both on the server's operating system).
Hope this helps a little.

• Getting error calling a package/procedure from DB

I'm on 11.1.1.6 and I'm trying to execute a procedure in a package in the DB my ADF application is connected to. I get the following error "Could not find saved view state for token". If I comment out the execution of the method that is calling the procedure the error goes away. The error shows up under the log for the application on the EM console. The procedure does not get executed. Can anyone tell me what it could be? I am using the tool Oracle provided to gain access to the EBS database without using the apps password. I wonder if that may be causing the issue? Can it be related to a security or grant issue of some kind? The package procedure is under the apps schema.

Hi,
I don't think that on this forum we know enough about EBS to be helpful with security privileges. But if you read this here ADF & Weblogic How To: TROUBLESHOOTING: Could not find saved view state for token ...
then it seems that there are some sort of access problem

• Module component based on pl/sql procedure....

Hi everyone,
could anybody help me with step by step instructions on how to generate module component which is based on PL/SQL procedure and how the procedure must look like.
Well, I make it in Forms Builder but I want to build it in oracle designer too, just to have consistent state of all forms in designer.
Well, what to say at the end... thanks a lot for help,
Zlatko

I'm a user of the Web PL/SQL generator, not the Forms generator, so I was hoping that someone else would step in with some help for you. Seeing as no-one else gave this a try, here is my two cents worth:
As far as I know, the module components based on a procedure expect to use the Table API (TAPI) packages, and I think they can optionally use the Module API (MAPI) packages. I think MAPI calls TAPI, so if you use MAPI, you must also generate TAPI. These are generated from the Design Editor, TAPI from the Table Definition. The Web PL/SQL generator REQUIRES the TAPI, so I'm very familiar with them. The on-line help has some good descriptions of TAPI.
The advantage of using TAPI/MAPI instead of direct table updates from your Form is that TAPIs can enforce business rules at the database level, no matter how your table is updated, whether with Forms, Web PL/SQL or even SQL*Plus. They can also do trigger-like actions that would not be possible with actual database triggers (can you say, mutating table?) You might also want to use TAPI if you have both Forms modules and Web PL/SQL modules against the same table.
Now - if someone with more Forms generator experience than I wants to chime in with a better answer, please do, especially if anything I said is wrong.

• Function Activity based on PL/SQL procedure

Hi All
I have a function activity in a workflow, which is based on a PL/SQL procedure. When I make any changes to the package or the stored procedure, workflow gives "Could not find package or program unit" error, even though the status of the package is valid in database.
Essentially everytime I re-apply the package, I get this error. I then drop the package and then recreate it. Even then the error is not resolved immediately. Does this requires Apache bounce? Is there any other step that I am missing when we make changes to database packages that are based on workflow activities?
It would be of great help if someone can throw light on the above.
Many thanks in advance
cheers

Have you tried searching this forum for the error message? There are plenty of posts about it here, on the WorkflowFAQ forum, and also in my blog about the issue, why it happens, and how you can avoid it.

• How do I get data to the from in a form based on a stored procedure

I would like to create a form based on a stored procedure. I have bound LOV's that lookup the ID of the data that is to be displayed on the form. Then I have a button that reads the database and populates the fields on the form. This is our current UI standard on our portal site, and I need to copy that UI exactly in order to mix HTML DB code with our current portal code because we can not afford to re-write all our code in portal to HTML DB. Can this be done, and how can it be done? Thanks

We are developing an entire HR system for our organization using portal forms. I am trying to prototype in HTML DB to see if we can switch our future development to this new product. However, we already have 50 or so forms that follow a certain user interface look and feel in portal. I am trying to create this interface look and feel in HTML DB. What we are doing in Portal is have a lookup section at the top of each form where you find the record you want to update with LOV's, sometimes 2 or 3 bound together, and then have a lookup button that does PL/SQL to read the database and populate the fields on the form. Then there is an Update button at the end of the form that takes the fields off the form and passes them to a stored procedure. I can not figure out how to do the Lookup button type of code to read information and bring it to the form when doing a form based on a stored procedure.

• Error while accessing oracle packaged procedure in crystal report./ How to

Hi,
When i tried to call a packaged procedure in crystal reports for .net, i am unable to access it.
i am getting error as 'unknown query engine'
In that packaged procedure i have a two IN parameters and one OUT TABLE parameter ( which is declared in package specification )
And when selecting the packaged procedure in crystal report, the wizard shows all the parameters like the IN parameters, and when i just leave it blank. i unable to set into report.
ie., the OUT table type is shown as IN paramters (Actually it is an output and has field fields in it.)
And No fields are coming in the Fields Explorer of crystal reports in .net.
can you provide any help.

Actually the OUT Parameter type in the stored
procedure is showing as IN Parameters and asking
for input values in the crystal report creation
wizard(while selecting the
database,connection,storedprocedures/qualifiers).That sounds like a problem on the .net / crystal report creation wizard side of things. Oracle no doubt recognises them as OUT parameters, so it's not Oracle at fault. I would guess the .net stuff is just querying the data dictionary to see what parameters there are rather than differentiating between the INs and OUTs.
