Matlab and ActiveX performance

I am playing around with using Labview as an ActiveX server with
Matlab.  The anticipated application is to run instrument control
in Labview
and then use ActiveX to transfer data over to Matlab for more processing.
The data transfer speed is surprisingly slow.  Over a 100 Mbit
network, two PCs can move a large double-precision 2D array at 6
Mbyte/sec.  When both Labview and Matlab are on the same PC (1.4
GHz P4) , the transfer rate is only ~10 Mbyte/sec.
The Matlab code looks something like this:
    LV = actxserver('Labview.Application') ;
    vi = invoke(LV,'GetVIReference','c:\test.vi') ;
    vi.Run ;
% now transfer the data from Labview to Matlab
    array = vi.GetControlValue('Output Array') ;
I am using tic/toc to time that last line of Matlab code.  Am I
doing something wrong or inefficient here, or is this just the way
ActiveX is?

Hello pcyservice
There is NOT a way to downgrade/roll-back/revert to a previous firmware without wiping all data.  This is specifically mentioned on the firmware update page:
" CAUTION!
This update is not data destructive, however, ALWAYS back up your data before performing any firmware update!
Once you have updated the firmware, you will NOT be able to revert to an older firmware version."
I recommend you disable any unnecessary features/protocols such as Media Server and Active Folders, then reboot the unit.

  • MATLAB and LabVIEW Communication Optimal Performance

I have tried my own code,  searched through forums and examples to try and figure out best method to communicate between LabVIEW and MATLAB.  Most of the information I found was over a year old and I was wondering if there was a better current solution.  My goal is to work in LabVIEW to collect the data, process in MATLAB and return the results to LabVIEW.  I have encountered some difficulty in my search and before I delve even further in to one in particular, I was wondering if anybody had an optimal solution with this communication protocol or solutions to my errors encountered thus far.
I have looked at the following methods.
1)TCP/IP and a very good example found here: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/11802-matlab-tcp-ip-code-example
When I try to adjust even the example and communicate for my own purposes I get the following errors
Error 63 if MATLAB server not running
Error 66 occurs if the TCP/IP connection is closed by the peer. In this case, Windows notices that no data is returned within a reasonable time, and it closes the TCP/IP connection. When LabVIEW attempts to communicate after Windows closes the connection, error 66 is the result.
However, the example itself works perfectly and does not get these errors
2)Math Script Node, works but the post below states that MATLAB Node is faster.
"computing fft of a 1024x1024 matrix ten times (attached code). Result is that Matlab node version takes 0.5s versus 1.6s for Mathscript node version."
     http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Why-are-mathscript-performances-much-below-matlab-s/m-p/2369760/high...
    3) MATLAB Node, which states it uses ActiveX Technology seemingly works well, but loses time for data transfer.
    4) Trying to use the ActiveX functions or if there is other Automation potential.
5)Other solutions that I have not found that might be better suited.
Thank you for any help or suggestions in advance.

    Barp and Mikeporter,
    Thank you for your assistance:
The reason I need to do the processing in matlab is as you mentioned the processing script is coming from another person who has already developed it in matlab.  I almost have to treat it as a black box.
The TCP/IP method was interesting is that none of the errors show up when I run the example but if I try to modify it in a new VI I get the errors.
I have attached a simple program that just has a basic butterworth low pass filter I am trying to confirm if it works in the Matlab node.  I have done other simple codes which work, and this one does not seem the implement  the appropriate filter.  The LabVIEW signal and LabVIEW filter seem to work at the default values (but not if I change sampling rate) for the Simulation of signal, Matlab signal and Matlab filter work, but the Labview signal processed in Matlab is not working...
Ideally it would be bandpass filtered (0.1-30) at sampling rate of 256 Hz and further processed from there, but I can't even seem to get low pass to work in the matlab to labview communication.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Once I have that working I will have more of an idea of the constraints of the actual processing Matlab Code I will be using.
    Thank you again.

  • LabVIEW Run Time Engine and ActiveX Automation Server

    Hi,
I have a question related to LabVIEW Run Time Engine and ActiveX Automation Server:
We have a tool developed in LabVIEW and TestStand. End user interface is a LabVIEW GUI (it's an executable) which executes TestStand sequences. Some TestStand sequences call lower level LabVIEW VIs.
Everything works fine with LabVIEW installed, but I was wondering if I could run this tool on deployment machine with only LabVIEW run time engine installed. We are using LabVIEW 6.1 and with only the run time engine installed, I get the error message: "Unable to launch the 'LabVIEW.Application' ActiveX automation server ".
BTW, we are planning to upgrade the versions soon.
Is it possible to make things work only with the run time engine?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the response, Brian.
I did upgrade to LabVIEW 8.0 and TestStand 3.5. Everything works fine on the development computer where LabVIEW and TestStand is installed. On the target computer in the lab, I installed LV RTE 8.0 and TestStand 3.5, and now when a VI is called in a sequence file, I get the following:
    RunState.PreviousStep.Result.Error.Code  -18002
RunState.PreviousStep.Result.Error.Msg  "LabVIEW: The VI is not executable"
So, the executable opens and works fine (which means that the LV RTE is installed properly), but when a sequence calls a low level VI, it does not make it through.
    comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  • WebUtil and ActiveX

What is the correlation between WebUtil and ActiveX?
The reason I ask is that we have successfully installed WebUtil on our 9iAS R2 apps server and the Webutil forms that were created all work perfectly on site.
However our WAN covers sites all over the UK and the majoiry of these sites have all ActiveX settings disabled for security reasons. When accessing from one of these sites the form correctly loads all the .dll and .jar files but the CLIENT_TEXT_IO procedure will not operate.

... one thing I forgot. Duncan Mills, who could answer this question a lot better than I can, is on vacation this week.

  • [BUG] deploytk.dll file and activex control is NOT uninstalled

deploytk.dll file and activex control is NOT uninstalled, when you uninstall the latest JRE.
I have uninstalled the latest JRE, but the file deploytk.dll is still present in c:\windows\system32\ and the related activex control deploytk.dll 6.0.190.4 is loaded in IE8. Please fix this bug.
    Windows Vista SP2

Unfortunately, it was *all* of my ActiveX controls that wouldn't load. That said, A user of the Info-LabVIEW list came up with the answer: reinstall the RunTime engine - wierd....
    thanks,

  • Different versions Plugin and ActiveX with MSI file installation

    Dear all,
we used the newest Adobe Flash Player MSI file with our software deployment tool. But we has trouble with two different versions of plugin and ActiveX installation.
Does any body know how that could be appear? Should we use now the .EXE file?
    Best regards,

    Freudenberg IT

The EXE and MSI installers on the distribution page are always identical versions.
However, it seems to happen a lot that MSI installers are cached on some corporate servers.  Make sure the caches are cleaned, or download the MSI from outside your corporate environment.

Nevermind, I stopped using the OCX to connect. Maybe they just don't work.

  • IE 11 Restricting Running Scripts and ActiveX Controls on Local Files

to test your WEBSITE.... publish it to a web server. eg. localhost/test.local

  • When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX

When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads (i.e. ads for XBOX) on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX on an HP Pavillion dv7 laptop. Does NOT happen at all in MS IE 8, but occurs every time in FF 5.0.
Also, Google 'translate this page' links do not work in FF 5.0, but works in MS IE 8. All I get in FF is a blank page, time after time.

    Hi,
I am using a Nvidia 4200M adapter in my Laptop, Driver 266.96, Direct X 11
In my desktop I am using an ATI XFX 6950, latest revision drivers (I am not at home right now so I cant get that info).
The issue I did describe above, but it was a long explanation.
In some flash games the game files load initially and get as far as the "click to start" button. Then the flash area usually goes either all white or all black (usually depending on the falsh game default background color) and then it stays that color. Cant see anything after hitting start (usually most games have an intro video or animation before the game starts, but I cant see any of it.
For the very few games that do start, the flash game or application does not seem to work correctly in that when the rare game starts, it wont save any game files or save files to the pc and so if I exit the game (navigate away to another page or close browser) and then later come back, even though I click the option to save games (and ensure that the flash application slider shows it can save files and lots of space) it does not save and I have to start from the beginning all the time.
    More explanation I gave above.

  • Flash player is installed on my Windows 8, enabled and ActiveX is off, what is wrong?

I have Windows 8, Flash player is installed, enabled and ActiveX is off.... I have tried all of YOUR flash player issue antecdotes and nothing has made it work, what now?

IE11 is a "Rolling Train Wreck". Combined with 8.1 it is, without a doubt, the worst pile of garbage to EVER come out of Redmond, WA.
MS deliberately altered the "User-Agent Strings" to make it nearly IMPOSSIBLE for pages and sites to ID it. (See: IE11's Screwed up User-Agent Strings)
The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Clientless SSL VPN and ActiveX question

    Hey All,
First post for me here, so be gentle.  I'll try to be as detailed as possible.
With the vast majority of my customers, I am able to configure an IPSEC L2L VPN, and narrow the traffic down to a very minimal set of ports.  However, I have a customer that does not want to allow a L2L VPN tunnel between their remote site, and their NOC center.  I thought this might be a good opportunity to get a clientless (they don't want to have to launch and log into a separate client) SSL VPN session setup.  Ultimately, this will be 8 individual sites, so setting up SSL VPN's at each site would be cost prohibitive from a licensing perspective.  My focus has been on using my 5510 (v8.2(5)) at my corp site as the centralized portal entrance, and creating bookmarks to each of the other respective sites, since I already have existing IPSEC VPN's via ASA5505, (same rev as the 5510 )setup with each of the sites.
First issue I've run into is that I can only access bookmarks that point to the external address for the remote web-server (the site has a static entry mapping an external address to the internal address of the web server).  I am unable to browse (via bookmark) to the internal address of the remote web server.  Through my browser at the office, I can access the internal address fine, just not through the SSL VPN portal.  I am testing this external connectivity using a cell card to be able to simulate outside access.  Is accessing the external IP address by design, or do I have something hosed?
Second issue I face is when I access the external address through the bookmark, I am ultimately able to log onto my remote website, and do normal browsing and javascript-type functions.  I am not able to use controls that require my company's ActiveX controls (video, primarily).  I did enable ActiveX relay, and that did allow the browser to start prompting me to install the controls as expected, but that still didn't allow the video stream through.  The stream only runs at about 5 fps, so it's not an intense stream.
I have researched hairpinning for this situation, and "believe" that I have the NAT properly defined - even going as far as doing an ANY ANY, just for testing purposes to no avail.  I do see a decent number of "no translates" from a show nat:
match ip inside any outside any
        NAT exempt
        translate_hits = 8915, untranslate_hits = 6574

As you can see, I have things reasonably wide open - with no port restrictions on this one yet - this is for troubleshooting purposes, and it will get restrictive as soon as I figure this out   Right now, the ASA5510 is pretty restrictive, and to be brutally honest, I'm not certain I'm even using the packet tracer 100% proper to be able to simulate coming from the outside of the network through my ASA5510, out to a remote ASA5505, and to a web server behind that 5505.  I'm sure that the issue is probably going to be a mix of ACL's between the 5510, and the 5505.
I guess the main question, is Clientless SSL VPN really a good choice for this, or are there other real alternatives - especially since my client doesn't want to have to install, or use an actual client (like AnyConnect), nor do they want to have an always-on IPSEC VPN.  Am I going about this the right way?  Anyone have any suggestions, or do I have my config royally hosed?
Thanks much for any and all ideas!

Hey All,  I appreciate all of the views on this post.  I would appreciate any input - even if you think it might be far-fetched.  I'm grasping at straws, and am super-hesitant to tell my customer this is even remotely possible if I can't have a POC myself.  Thanks, in advance!!

  • Events problem with (Java and ActiveX)

    Hi,
I use an ActiveX component with Java and i've got a problem with events.
Java classes were generated with Bridge2Java (IBM).
In order to manage events I added a listener in my application :
         javaMyActiveX = new MyActiveX();
         javaMyActiveX.add_DMyActiveXEventsListener(new _DMyActiveXEventsAdapter());
I also added a constructor in the _DMyActiveXEventsAdapter class and I fill the body of methods.
The ActiveX generates two types of events :
    - The ones are directly generated by methods.
    - The others are generated by a thread.
With MS Products (VB, Visual C++, Visual J++), I catch all events.
With java (jdk 1.4), I catch only events generated by methods.
    Can anyone help me.

I'm not 100% sure, but the last time I used that bridge, it only worked if you ran your Java app within a Microsoft VM.

  • Report Generation and ActiveX control of MSWord 97

I had posted this problem sometime ago with no response, but I had a chance to look at it again. I wanted to try some examples using MS Word instead of MS Excel. Well I would always get the attached error. It looks like LabVIEW cannot find MS Word. I found out why, I just need to know how to fix it..
I found that the Word._Application (Automation_Refnum) is more then likely using the Microsoft Word 8.0 Object Library Version 8.0 that is installed with Labview. the Problem is I have Word 97 which I believe is version 5.0. Now for Excel both the Microsoft Excel 5.0 Object Library Version 1.0 and Microsoft Excel 8.0 Object Library Version 1.2 appear in the Select Object from Type Library Drop down. It there a Word Object Library missing?
I have LabVIEW running on a WinXP Pro machine with MS Office 97 SR2 installed.. I really wish my company would upgrade to MS Office XP or 2003 but I don't see that happening.
is there anyway to get LV8 to recognize Word 97? I have reinstalled Office and the Toolkit a couple times with no luck. I also had the same problem with LV 7.1.1
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
EDIT: Forgot the attachment the first time

    Hi Jeff,
The issue you are seeing is usually caused by Office not being installed properly. It would be good if you could do a repair on your Word install, make sure all office applications are closed, and turn off all Anti-virus software and registry protectors (i.e Ad-Aware and Spybot).
Go to add/remove programs and find the office install and choose repair, choose to repair word and letthat run, once that is done restart the computer.
Open LabVIEW and place down an ActiveX reference and then right-click the refnum to select the ActiveX class. Scroll through the list to find the Word entry that you need.
If this does not work, you will need to look at the msdn website www.msdn.com to see if this is a known issue with Word 97, and if MS have a way of registering the server. Or find how to register an ActiveX server and then register your Word install to the COM and DCOM in WIndows , as this is where LabVIEW picks up the Servers it has access to.

  • Poor performance by Matlab and Windows benchmark tests

    Hello
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 with Windows 7 64bit installed. Compared to other Notebooks with comparable hardware, my Lenovo is very slow. To prove my thought, I carried through a Matlab (64bit) benchmark test and the Windows 7 benchmark test. In both tests, my Lenovo was worse than the other notebooks. During the tests I set the Power Manager to performance and activated the Lenovo turbo boost.
Now I want to ask, if there are any settings, perhaps in the bios, to speed the laptop up? Or why result such a bad performance although the hardware is very good?
    Thanks for your help

Thank you very much for your reply!
I dated up the BIOS from version 1.27 to 1.32. Now the benchmark tests all look great!!
    Thanks
