Are photo tag hierarchies in Photoshop Elemets carried across to Express for use on iPads/iPhones?

Hi,
I'm looking for a software to use to reorganise my photos using a tag hierarchy, but need something that will be useable on pcs, iPads, iPhones.
I have read that Elements allows you to set this up, but can anyone tell me if this functionality is carried across to Express for use on iPads/iPhones?
Many thanks

  • Organizing some photos for use on iPad

I have thousands of pictures in iPhoto. I have an iPad that I would like to display 200 - 300 of my favorite photos on. How can I select these photos for syncing in iTunes without moving the photos from their current event? I started to create an event called iPad Photos but quickly realized that when I flag a photo and add it to the iPad Photos event, it is removed from the original event.
Also this may be slightly off-topic but when large (above 1.5MB) photos from iPhoto are synced to an iPhone or iPad do they reside on the device at full resolution? I don't need full resolution on a smaller screen such as the iPad or iPhone and don't want to waste memory space. Do I need to take all the full resolution photos and resize before letting iTunes sync with that folder/event?

Create an iPhoto album with the photos you want to sync to your iPad. Connect the iPad to your Mac and launch iTunes. Click on the iPad icon and go to the Photos tab. Select iPhoto in the *+Sync Photos from...+* drop down menu. There select the radio button titled Selected albums, events, ......
In the Albums section select the album with the photos you want to sync and sync.
If you want to reduce the file size of those photos you'll have to export them out of iPhoto with the JPEG Quality level set at Medium or Low. Put those photos in a folder on your hard drive. In iTunes select Choose folder in that drop down menu, navigate to the folder with the reduced sized image files and select that folder. Then sync.

  • Are Instant Tags Available in Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer?

This was a handy feature in previous versions, but I cannot find it in the '12' version. Am I missing something? Is there an alternative way to generate a tag from a folder name? Thanks

Thanks for your response. Instant album is not quite the same thing as the instant tag previously available. Has the latter functionality actually been taken away?
I agree, it's slightly different. I think it has been  superseded by the 'instant albums' for good reasons. After all, while people think that albums and tags are very different (location of panels...), there are really two differences :
    - albums have a sort order
    - albums are stored only in the database, while tags can also be written to the files metadata.
The first reason is in favour of instant albums
The second one can be a real problem for instant tags when you write metadata to files : the instant tags are rarely meaningful and can be very long.
So it depends on your particular workflow. With the available search options in the organizer : by text search, by details, by import batch, it does not really matter if you create instant albums or tags. It's so quick to select what you want and assign either a new meaniningful tag or create a new album (generally temporary).

  • What are my options for using my Verizon iPhone 6 in Europe next summer?

I just bought an iPhone 6 through Verizon.  Will I be able to use it during my trip to Europe next summer?  Is there website somewhere that tells me what I need to do? The Verizon website seems totally unhelpful on this subject, and so far I'm not having luck Googling for specifics.

How exciting to be traveling to Europe! I definitely want to make sure you have all the details you need to stay connected while you're there. You'll just need to know which countries you're visiting, and then you can get all the details right here: http://vz.to/1fb1kE8

  • What are the steps to publish Captivate 6 project for use on an iPhone?

    I found this URL: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/09/publish-to-iphone-from-captivate-5-and-elearning- suite-2.html
    But this seems dated.
    Here's what I just tried:
    - Hit Publish
    - Checked the SWF AND the HTML5 boxes in teh Output Format Options
sent the xx.htm  URL to a friend with an iPhone to have her try it (by clicking the URL)
She said it gave her an error about not being able to run it (needing the flash Player)
I checked my project (very simple one) via 'HTML Tracker' and it listed nothing in the 'unsupported Slide/Object' list)

    Thanks for the response
I'm using Captivate 6.0.1.240 (the trial version)
My tester friend who has an both an iPad as well as an iPhone gave me some more updates this AM
.. Running in the iPad, everything was looking good, including the drag and drop
... Running on the iPhone (smaller screen), she reported the following:  a simple quiz screen with multiple choice radio buttons - the actual radio buttons disappeared (see http://download.insight-experience.com/Tom/Captivate/iPhoneNoRadioButtons.PNG)
Then i tried it on an iPod Touch.. I launched the same URL from our webserver via safari browser
It brings up the initial screen with the playbutton (arrow in a circle).. I press that button. It does something for a second or two and then the browser window shuts down and the ipod touch goes back to the main iPod screen with all the buttons to launch the different applications.. I've tried this a few times and the same thing happens.. Basically it seems like the captivate project file is shutting safari down for some reason.
    Any ideas on this one?

Also, how to find that tutorial?

  • Trouble getting pics from mac iphoto onto the cloud to they are viewable on the cloud or ipad, iphone itv etc.  i did try to change system pref in mac but there is no cloud there, only the old me logo, also the "ME" logo still shows on my tool bar on ipho

OK so I've recently placed some photos on iphoto that I would like to share with my other devices - ipad, iphone, apple tv.  There doesn't appear to be anywhere on the could for photos - so that is my first question.  My second question is how do I even get the photos from my mac into the cloud?  The system preferences for the mac instruct to update the cloud icon however my system is still showing the old MobileMe white cloud blue sky icon - not the current cloud.  The Mobile Me icon is inoperable.  So I've tried several times to drop ad drag, change preferences, nothing so far is working.  I've checked that I've got the latest software, running Mac OS X 10.6.8, ipad and iphone are similarly up to date.
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks

You cannot use iCloud with 10.6.8; the minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2 - this is a paid upgrade. The current system is Mountain Lion and if your Mac meets the requirements you can obtain it from the Mac App Store (in Applications). The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are compliant with Lion but not Mountain Lion you may be able to get Lion by ringing the Apple Store on the number at bottom left of this page. The requirements for Lion are
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • I can text some people using my iPad but some people are blocked, I'm talking about the people in my contacts

Why are some of the mumbers in my contact list blocked from texting using my iPad?

If those people are not using an Apple device with iMessage account, then you cannot use iMessage to send to them.  On an iPad, that means you will have to use one of the 3rd party apps to send text messages to them (examples are textme or textplus).

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Where are my tags?

I use Photoshop Elements for many years. I am now in possession of version 10. My catalog, with over 33,000 photos, I have given most of the photo's a tags: Family, friends, places, events and so on. Now I have this great collection divided in two smaller catalogs and the great catalog kept.  I can, however, not find the tags in the two newly created catalogs, despite the fact that I have tried "keyword tags  and property information write to photos..."  several times. Also " automatic analysis " brings me no further.  I would like the tags, which I have given in the big catalog, also see back in the other catalogs.  Is that possible?

Thank you very much. You helped me a lot. Everything is now organized. I can find all with my tags.
The last question is: When I change or add tags in one of my split catalogs, will it also changed in the original catalog? I have not tried, but sure you know the answer.
    Again many thanks,
    Wart
PS Do I need to update to 11? Is it much better? I’m now very used to 10. I find it strange that there is an update every year for minor extras.

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

  • Photo File Size and Photoshop processing

On  previous discussion, Steve Grisetti noted that problems with burning are sometimes associated with photo file size.  The post stated that Photoshop Elements has a batch processing selection that can resize photos all at once.  I when to Photoshop, selected process multiple file, selected source, save in same as source, and resize images 1000.  When I viewed my photos after, about 50 of my photos were now duplicates of other photos For example, I put all my pictures in timeline order prior to doing my video.  If I found a NEW photo after I had already scanned and named the photos, I would place the NEW photo in the picture folder by adjusting accordingly:  1.jpg, 2.jpg 3.1.jpg 3.jpg The 3.1.jpg would be the NEW photo.  Photoshop replaced 3.1jpg with the picture in 3jpg.  Does anyone know how to restore my photos back to the original "3.1jpg"?  The backup is not accessible at this time.

If I understand you correctly you have been using the renaming feature and the parameters you used caused file1 to be renamed to a pre-existing filename (file2). If this is so then you probably have lost the original file2. An undelete utility may help (try Piriform Recuva).
For the future when using batch conversion it is good practice to select a new folder for the outputted files.
It is also good practice to burn all image originals to a CD or DVD immediately after importing from your camera. This way you can always recover originals.
Here are a couple of screenshots, the first from Elements Organizer and the second from Photoshop Elements. Which one did you use and what parameters did you enter?
