Refresh individual queries within a workbook in SP20 EHp1 System

Hi,
Currently we have upgraded our BI system to EHP1 pack for SP20. Now we are in BI7.01. We have found in SAP release notes for EHP1 like " in BEX 7 analyzer we will able to Refresh individual queries within a workbook:".
Can you please tell me how to acheive that, as when we are trying to do it refreshes all the sheets.
Also in Global settings tab " Allow single data provider refresh" is disabled. Kindly tell me step by step procedure to acheive this,
Thanks

Hi Krishna,
Really thanks for your instructions. We have enabled hte "refresh on individual workbooks" in the workbook settings tab adn we are able to see the same in the context menu of the analysis grid.
Again i have few doubts.
I can able to see two options as below.
1. Refresh
2. Refresh this query.
What is the difference between this two?. Also when i click the "refresh this query" it shud display the "selections screen of the particular query", But it is not at all showing me a selection screen,
What i am doing is.. I am simply doing "refresh this query" option that will refresh my screen first adn i am doing change variables.
That will give me the selection screen of the particular query. If i am not doing so, all workbooks are refreshing,
Please advice, whether selection screen of the particular query can be shown when clicking "refresh this query".
Thanks/

  • Refrsh individual queries within a workbook

    Dear Experts,
We have implemented Enhancement package 1 SP-04 in our BI system.
1 of the new functionalities provided with this upgrade was
" Single dataprovider refresh is possible , vs a Global refresh of all the queries in the workbook "
But we can not see any such option in workbook setting.
It would be of great help if you can provide in your valuable inputs to solve this issue.
    Regards
    Vaibhav Halde

    Hi Chandrashekhar,
    Thank you for your input.
It will surely work if you refresh query Q2 and not query Q1.
Our issue is that along with enhancement package 1 SP04 we should have got a new check box on general tab in a workbook setting.
Initially...workbook setting-general tab - there was a check box - Refresh workbook on open
after upgrade there should have been a new check box : Refresh individual dataprovider
but that is not the case.
We want to know reason behind this ?
    or
Does this functionality really come along with EHP1 SP04 or with any other support package?

  • 2 Queries within 1 workbook in BEx BI7.0

    Hi Experts,
I know that there is a new method of creating a workbooks in BI7.0 using the Design Mode.
Suppose I have put 2 queries within 1 sheet in excel (one on top of the other). I did this by inserting 2 analysis grids within the same worksheet.
When I try to drill down the query on top, the area it occupies expands and completely overwrites the query at the bottom.  As such, the bottom query disappears.
Is there a setting somewhere which will make the system adjust the position of the query at the bottom in this scenario?
I remember that with 3.x, when you insert 2 queries within the same worksheet in the workbook and you try to do a drilldown, the system would ask if you want it to overwrite or adjust the affected query area.
I am trying to look for the same functionality in BI7.0 workbook creation.
Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Prevent Excel from recalculating when refreshing a query within a workbook

    Hello,
I have a BEx workbook with 4 queries and a significant number of Excel formulas retrieving and rearranging query data.
    **The issue**:
When Excel>Tool>Options>Calculation is set to "Automatic" (as it should be in normal situations), refreshing anyone query takes about 2 hours.
When Excel>Tool>Options>Calculation is set to "Manual", refreshing anyone query takes about 2 minutes.
Therefore I conclude that BEx does not prevent Excel from recalculating during a query refresh and this cause unacceptable delays.
    **Question**
Is there any way to prevent to temporarily prevent Excel from recalculating during a query refresh ?
    Thank you.
    Louis

I have a star schema, ie 5 FACT tables and 7 dimension tables, All fact tables share the same dimension tables, some FACT tables share 3 dimesnsions, while other share 5 dimensions.
I did adopt the best practices, and as recommended in the book, I tried to resolve them using Context, as it is the recommended option to Alias in a star schema setting.  The contexts are resolved, but I still have loops.  I also cleared the Multiple SQL Statement for each context option, but no luck.  I need to get this resoved ASAP,
I checked all the context and they look fine, however when I again go to detect context it asks me to add the context which is already present.  It give me an option to overwrite?  Besides, I also get some Alias options.  However I was told and it was mentioned in the book that Alias is not a good option to resolve loops but context is when you have a STAR SCHEMA.
    Please suggest idea.

  • How to run multiple queries in a workbook

    Hi,
I have 3 queries in a workbook with the same variables. How can I refresh all the 3 queries when I change the variable value. It allows me to refresh only one query at a time but I need to refresh all the 3 queries at once whenever variable value changes.
    Thanks,

    Prakash,
    Do you have any more information on where i would find the setting to;
"Refresh individual queries within a workbook (Single DataProviderRefresh)"
    is it on the
    i) dataprovider setting
    ii) workbook setting
    iii) elsewhere?

  • Mutliple queries on single workbook?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have number of queries on single workbook, meaning each query on a different sheet.
    How can this be achieved.
    Would it require embedded workbook.
How would it be refreshed, i have heard some people had problems with similar scenario
How are variables handled, assuming some queries are prompted for variables.
    Thanks

    Hi Ashouja,
It is possible to have multiple queries on different sheets in one workbook. You can accomplish this through using the Bex Toolbar button Tools > Insert Query on the different worksheets. When you will refresh the workbook, all those queries are still "attached" will be refreshed.
About the variables...it depends on the query properties set in the workbooks. eg if you choose Refresh all queries when opening workbook, then as soon as you open the workbook, all the queries will be automatically refreshed. In this case you will get the variable screen starting with that of the first query. If there are any variables that are common between the queries (Same technical name) then those variables will only appear once and if you enter a value, they will not appear again. The second query will be run with the same value in this case.

  • Allow refresh of individual queries in workbook is not working

    Hi,
    We are in EHP1 SP08, BI Analyzer 7.20 SP2 .
In workbook I have 2 queries I checked the "Allow refresh of individual queries"  but I am unable to refresh my queries individual .
I tried all the options by removing "Process variables on Refresh", " Refresh workbook open" ,Display duplicate variables once.
I appreciate if anybody share with the solution
    we are using OFFICE 2007.
is there any setting required in Excel.
I am thinking "CALLBACK" Macro may not functioning correctly.

    Hi,
The main disadvantage of workbook frequently this issues are coming .check the query if any one changed .then try to create a check box again.

  • Parallel Refresh queries in a workbook with BI7.0

    Hi Experts,
could somone tell me if is it possible to refresh IN PARALLEL all the queries in a workbook with 7.0 version? are there any differences from 3.5 Bex version from this point of view?
This kind of option would be  very usefull for long run queries and/or big ammount of queries collected  in a workbook.
I would be really grateful if you can give me link to documentation on this point.
    Thanks very much
    Best Regards
    Filippo Corvi

    Hi
You are correct, if we put the big queries in a workbook it would be a performance issue.
I have to check the option of refreshing the queries parallely.
But you can try one option, the workbooks are also refreshed in Precalculation Server. If you can schedule that then the users would not have a problem.  May be I am wrong in this option. But it would be like refreshing the statistics before using them.
If you can tryout, this is the help
Note 936112 - Precalculation server help for troubleshooting
Also this is one more option, but I had not tried out
Schedule a Refresh of BEx Workbooks

  • Use of Variable - Refreshing the Queries in Workbook

    Hi All,
I have a workbook which contains 5 Queries. All these queries uses the same variable. While I am refreshing all the  queries in the workbook, it pops-up the variable input screen 5 times.
Here I just want the variable screen appear to be once and the same input be taken to all the queries.
    We are in 3.x.
In 7.x Analyzer, I know that When you have multiple queries(with variables) embedded in a single workbook, we can use "Change Variables" icon to acheive the same.
How can I achieve this in 3.5.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joke,
    Thanks for your reply.
The option "save and reuse variable values" is something to do with the input values to save and reuse the same for the next time execution.
Here I just wanted to input the variable at one query and the same value needs to be taken to all the queries. The Variable used in all the queries is the same one.
    Thanks again..
    Any body any inputs.

  • Automatic refresh of queries into workbook

    Dear SAP fans,
I am using a workbook with 2 BEX queries and some VBA coding for each "onRefresh".
I set both queries to "refresh query when opening the workbook" so that my workbook is automatically updated when I open it.
Unfortunately the "system" automatically refreshes the queries in the "wrong" order. Therefore my result in incomplete...
Any idea to refresh the queries in the right order?
Alternatively, I was thinking to refresh the second query via VBA coding, but I can't get it right...
Thanks in advance for your help!!
    Kind regards
    Julien

    Hi both,
Thanks a lot for your great answer:
    S.Sankaran,
I saw the same behaviour, but was not quite sure it will be the rule...
    This solution does work!
However I would be happy to use Sebastian solution, which sounds cleaner and more flexible...
Unfortunately I do not manage to make it work: I do not manage to get the option definition..
    Seastian,
Could you help me to open the object katalog of the sapbex.xla?
    Thanks again both of you!

  • How to autorefresh queries in a workbook?

    Hello Experts,
I have multiple queries in a excel worksheet in a workbook. I am unable to refresh the data .
I have checked "Allow refresh function for Individual queries" and also "Refresh workbook on Open".
    But this is not working.
But when i run individual queries it works fine.  I dont want to re assign data providers all the time?
    Please help.
    Rohit

    Hey,
I tried recreating new workbooks and i found out that getting a auto refresh workbook is a random phenomenon. I mean some workbooks refresh and some dont and there is no reason why they dont refresh.

  • Need Different Selection screen for different Queries in a Workbook

    Hi,
I have created a workbook with Multiple tabs in BI 7.0.  Each Tab has different Queries and each query has different Selection screens (Variable Selections).
When i open the workbook and refresh it, the selection screen is appearing only for one query.  All the queries are refreshed by this single selection screen, though each query has different Variable selections.  What i need is a seperate selection screen i.e seperate Variable selection appearing for each queries, when i refresh each one of them.
Is it possible to do this?  If anybody has tried this, help me in solving this issue.  Thanks for ur time.
    Regards,
    Murali

    Murali,
If you un-check the 'Display Duplicate Variables Only Once' this WILL solve your problem.
When you Refresh, you should be presented with a single variable selection dialog box, but it should contain an area for each Query (DataProvider) that is embedded in the Workbook.
This is the case if the queries are all on the same tab, or on different tabs.
However, if you have multiple tabs each with a query on it, each query must have it's own DataProvider. If all queries are based on the same DataProvider, it will not work as the Workbook only 'sees' one Query for which it needs variable input.
If you REALLY want multiple variable selection dialog boxes, then maybe the best way to do this is to have the queries in separate Workbooks.
If you don't want the User to have to open 5 queries manually, you could use a Macro in each Workbook that runs on opening, to open the next Workbook in the sequence.
    I hope this makes sense!
    Regards
    Steve

  • How to embed multiple queries in single workbook

    Hi,
I am working in BI 7.0 environment. My requirement is
    1) I have 6 different SD queries.
    2) I need to create workbook out of each query.
    3) I need to embed workbook created from each query into a single work book (each worksheet in workbook should have workbook created from 1single query).
This way the final workbook will have six work sheets with six different queries (all saved as workbooks).
Can anyone please give me an idea to create the workbook.
We are latest version of Excel.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Padma,
You can embed multiple queries in a workbook. Please follow below steps.
    1. Open the query in a Bex analyzer (first query)
    2. Go to second tab and select a cell and insert anlaysis item (second icon on the Bex Toolbar)
    3. Right click and assign query to the data provider.
    4. Goto next tab and insert analysis item for third query . Similarly you can insert many queries but embedding multiple queries will degrade performace.
    5. Goto workbook settings (last icon in Bex tool bar) for workbook properties like refresh workbook on open. pop up variable screen on refresh etc.
Also please go thru below links .

  • Refreshing all queries

    Hi All,
I have 5 queries in my workbook.
My requirement is that everytime i refresh a query, all the queries should be refreshed.
    Is this possible?
I tried some VBA code like this.
          ' Set Backlog_Range = Range("SAPBEXqueries!SAPBEXq0002")
           'Run "sapbex.xla!SAPBEXrefresh", False, Backlog_Range
    'Similar code for all queries.
But this as expected causes an infinite loop.
    Is there any solution?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Arun KK

This was resolved by setting flags and stopping the refresh based on the flag.

  • Control multiple updates and queries within one transaction in JPA

    Hi,
I have a question regarding control multiple updates and queries within one transaction. We are using EclipseLink 2.3.1. With below code, will I be able to:
    - have all insert, update, select queries committed in one transaction;
    - queryGetBalance will return the latest OrgBalance after update;
    - if one fails, everything rolls back.
    Thanks!

PS: I realized that I cannot use em.getTransaction().begin() and em.getTransaction().commit(), since I am using JTA.
    =============
    @PersistenceContext(unitName="Test")

    queryUpdateBalance.setParameter("amount", 1000);

    Query queryGetBalance = em.createQuery("select OrgBalance o where o.orgId = :myOrgId");

Yes, the operation will be in a single transaction, assuming you are using a JTA managed SessionBean and the code is part of a SessionBean method.
