Are PrintParams overriden by Windows Printer Preferences?

Hi,
I want to create a form which prints silently, and bypasses all settings such as scaling and Duplex settings - I've created a sample form (attached) with the following script on a button click event
var myDoc = event.target;
        var pp = myDoc.getPrintParams();
        // Insert your Printer name here ....
        pp.printerName = "Brother MFC-7420 USB Printer";
        pp.DuplexType = 1;
        pp.nUpNumPagesH = 1;
        pp.nUpNumPagesV = 1;
        pp.tileScale = 1;
        pp.tileOverlap = 0;
        pp.nUpAutoRotate = false;
        pp.reversePages = false;
        pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;
        sfmTop.txtPrintOP.rawValue = pp.toSource();
        myDoc.print(0, "0", (xfa.host.numPages - 1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, pp);
Problem is that if the user in Windows has Printer Preferences set then it appears that these override the settings passed in th pp object.
My client needs to ensure that Duplex and reversing is turned off, but it doesn't happen if the printer preferences have these set!
Many Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Duplex can be specified in the Form Properties / Print Options tab:
I have tested it here and if the printer defaults is simplex and the form is set for duplex; then the form settings will override the printer defaults and print in duplex.
In your case you would need to set the form to print in simplex, as per the screen shot above. This should override the printer default of duplex printing.
This is a setting you make a design stage. I don't think you can change the duplex/simplex settings using script. At the end of the XML Source tab you will see the settings from the File / Form Properties tab:
<?PDFPrintOptions embedPrintOnFormOpen 0?>
<?PDFPrintOptions scalingPrefs 0?>
<?PDFPrintOptions enforceScalingPrefs 0?>
<?PDFPrintOptions paperSource 1?>
<?PDFPrintOptions duplexMode 1?>
But I don't think you can access these programmatically.
That said I think you can achieve what you want between the Form Properties and the xfa print parameters.
Good luck,
Niall.

  • How does one print to enterprise Windows print services in Yosemite? CUPS 2.0 problem?

    One of my co-workers upgraded to Yosemite yesterday and it broke his ability to print to our corporate printing services (which are built around a Windows print server). Obviously, the printer discovery in the System Preferences can't find the Windows print server - that's never worked. However, we had previously been able to add a printer through the CUPS web front-end by adding a Windows printer and specifying an SMB URL in the format:
    smb://DOMAIN;USER:[email protected]/QUEUE-NAME
    ... which worked like a charm in Mavericks. However, Yosemite has upgraded to CUPS 2.0.0 and this no longer seems to work. Print jobs enter the CUPS queue, but authentication fails and they are not accepted by the remote server.
    I've consulted the CUPS 2.0.0 documentation, and there's not really anything helpful there. In fact, there's no mention of SMB / Windows printing at all in the 2.0.0 documentation. Unfortunately our campus print services does not support IPP, LP, LPR, or JetDirect as options -- just Windows printing.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Just finished testing 10.10 printing via a Windows 2008 R2 print share. I also found that when trying to add the printer using CUPS I would get an authentication error. But if I added the printer using the Windows section of the Add printer pane, then I was able to print fine.
    So with you mentioning that using the Windows section of the Add printer window has never worked (which is interesting because it's always worked for me) I want to suggest another approach to adding the printer, still using the Add printer window. With this window open you can right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar. You can then drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Then when you select this, you can set the Type menu to "Windows via spoolss" and then enter the URL as smb://servername/sharename. Select the supporting driver and click Add to complete.
    Then when you select to print for the first time using this printer you will be prompted to authenticate. Enter the account details, set the save to Keychain option and OK to send the print job.
    This worked fine for me and creates the same queue as using the Windows add printer setting. Curious to hear if this gets your co-worker printing again.

  • Windows Printer IP change question

    We currently have 10 printers that are setup on a printer server. We need to change all the ip addresses on all the printer that are setup on the print server. In the past when we changed an ip address on a printer that is hosted on a windows server 2008
    R2 server, we would need to remap the printer on all workstations that had the printer setup as if we did not the workstations would retain the old ip address and the documents would not print.
    If you change an ip address on a printer, is there a way to force it down to the client machine so they do not have to remap the printer each time?

    If the clients connect directly to the print device, you will have to reconfigure all your clients.  If the clients print through a print server, their connections to the server do not depend on the IP address of the print device and there is no
    setting change on the clients.
    If you are using some other software to add the connections to the server shares, or some script that actually sets up a local printer rather than a connection, then you would need to determine what the software requirements are.

  • Printer - printing preferences with pad locks on them

      I am seeking help with my HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One-Printer. I was having trouble printing single sided copies and I went to printing preferences and I see that there are pad locks on all the settings. So if I select a preference to change it, it doesn't change, I'm assuming because of the pad locks. I'm not sure how they got there or how to remove them PLEASE HELP!!!  Thanks in advance!

  • Why does my Mac not allow me to use my own printing preferences? Windows does.

    I have a new Mac and have found to my dismay that I can no longer have any control over what type of paper I want to print on, along with many other printing preferences that I want to have control over as I did with my Windows Computer. Therefore, I am at the mercy of my computer or printer to figure out what kind of paper I am using...which is ridiculous, as that is impossible. Needless to say, many of my photos that I am trying to print on different papers, are printing out all kinds of crazy ways. I am using my same printer than I used with my Windows computer....the Epson Artisan 810 Photo Printer. I am a very serious photo printer person and I want my control back. What is the problem here and when will it be corrected?  Thanks for any help that anyone can offer me.

    Hi ,
    Go to System preference > Printers & Scanner
    select your printer and change its default print paper .
    If you want to change more settings .
    1) Open any image in PSE EDITOR.
    2) Go to Print.
    3) Select your printer  Click on Print button w/o changing the size and other things.
    4) save the settings in this window.

  • Print Preferences handled differently in Windows 7 than XP causing problems for customer locations

    Customers use web based application that they run only in Internet Explorer (both 8 or 9).   Many of them have a label printer and a report printer attached to the same computer.  In Windows XP this was not a problem.  But with Windows 7 you
    can designate the printer you want to print to from the application but Internet Explorer uses the print preferences for the default printer no matter which printer you choose.  Obviously this causes a problem due to the different sizes of paper on the
    two printers.
    Any ideas for a solution or work around?  Having all customers go back to Windows XP is not an option!

    Sorry it has taken me so long to respond.  Printer drivers for Windows 7 have been installed correctly.  It doesn't matter what brand printers are involved.  The label printer is the one that has the smaller page size obviously -- brand can
    be Cognitive, Godex or Zebra.  All respond the same way.  If you have the 8 1/2 x 11 printer set to the default printer but you want to print to the label printer about 5 or 6 labels spit out because it is trying to print 8 1/2 x 11 instead of 2.0
    x 2.4.  It works the opposite way if the label printer is set to the default.  If you have the label printer set to the default it will print a tiny report on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper on the report printer.  In this example it is a Canon,
    but it doesn't matter what brand the report/invoice printer is.  Keep in mind this is choosing the printer from Internet Explorer that you want to print to and even confirming that the printer preferences show correctly from the printer dialogue window
    in IE.  This is using IE9 but it happens in 8 as well.  It DOES NOT happen in Microsoft Word, Chrome or Mozilla.  I just sent a 2.0 x 2.4 Word document to the label printer when the default printer was set to the Canon and it print just fine.
     I also sent a regular size document to the Canon with the label printer (RT200) set as the default.  It also printed normal size.  A person should be be able to attach 2 printers to a computer and print to either one from Internet Explorer
    and have it use the print preferences assigned to their chosen printer regardless of whether it is set as the default or not.  We developed our web-based application to use Internet Explorer so there are other issues that keep us from using another browser
    --our customers are told that we only support IE, but if this doesn't get resolved we might have to change that.
    Thank you for any help you are able to provide.

    In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
    That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
    Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
    Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
    While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Problem with Printing Preferences Acrobat XI on Windows 7

    I just upgraded from Acrobat X Std to XI Pro on both my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 8 laptop.  The laptop works fine, but on the desktop I'm not able to print to the Adobe PDF printer from Word or Excel or Chrome.  I noticed that the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences do not display any options for Default Settings or Adobe PDF Security.  I did find the Standard.joboptions file in the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings folder on both machines.  What could be the problem?

    No files appeared in C:\Users\Pavilion\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings but they did appear in Distiller.
    I tried to copied them from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Settings, but found they were already there.  I copied them by adding -COPY before .joboptions in the name.  Now they appeared in  Printing Preferences with the -COPY added.
    I tested a print from Word (using File / Print), but was not prompted for the filename or location.  I checked my entire system and couldn't find the PDF file anywhere.  I tried changing the Port to Desktop\*.pdf using Printer Properties, but that didn't work either.
    I was able to successfully use the Acrobat menu item in Word & Excel to create a PDF but it automatically created the file on the Desktop without an option to change the filename.
    After several days and hours, I gave up and installed Acrobat X on the W7 computer.  I can still use Acrobat XI on the W8 computer.  So be it!
    Thanks anyway for your attempts to help.

  • My photos are not printing the size I set them to in printing preferences

    I am trying to print photos off but everytime i change the size it does not fit they come out to small does not fill the page e.g A4 is coming out to narrow and to short its the same for smaller photos e.g 5x7 prints out smaller. I have change size in printing preferences and apply but does not work.

    Open the notes app on your phone and tap Accounts on the top left.  Tap each of the accounts listed to find out which account your notes belong to.  iCloud only syncs notes that belong to the iCloud account.  If your notes belong to a different account, you will have to copy and paste the text of each one into new notes created in the iCloud account in order to add them to iCloud and sync them with your other devices.
    To ensure that new notes are added to the iCloud account, select the iCloud account from the accounts list before creating the note.

  • Windows crashes when I try to access printer preferences

    When I go to print out my jewel case inserts I can not access my printers preferences. The printer preferences window will open but I can not access any of the options on the page, and it locks up my computer. I have tried everything that I can think of. I have reinstalled my printer, updated the driver, you name it I've tried it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using an older Epson printer. It is the Photo 820. I don't think that this should matter, but maybe it does. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I have the same problem - only when I try to access my page setup for the printer within itunes, it just locks up itunes, not windows. I have a fairly new lexmark printer so I don't think the printer is the problem. Probably a problem with itunes. If I don't click on the page setup, I can print out a cd insert in black and white. I tried to change my default printer preferences outside of itunes (through the control panel), but the changes do not show up once I open itunes. Sorry, no solution for you, but you're not alone!

    I have an hp psc 2175 printer connected to a PC computer running on XP on my wireless/wired network. I am trying to set up windows printing so that I can print wirelessly through it. I have already set it up without any problems on three other PC laptops and they all print fine. I had initially had some problems with my mac, but then I downloaded the hpijs and ESP ghostscript from http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ , however, now that it does print, it is as if it is using three times the ink on each page!! Is there anyway I can change the settings on the remote printer, or what should I do??
    Thank You

    I have an hp psc 2175 printer connected to a PC

    oh-oh. Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!

    set up windows printing so that I can print
    wirelessly through it. I have already set it up
    without any problems on three other PC laptops and
    they all print fine.
    This is because HP's Windows drivers support sharing over the network. (Most of them do, anyway. Some don't. But the printers which can't be shared over the network usually have some kind of a warning in the fine print on the box or on the online blurb.)
    I had initially had some
    problems with my mac,
    This is because HP's Mac drivers do NOT support sharing over the network. (There are exceptions, but most HP inkjets don't do OS X sharing out of the box.) Note that HP does not warn Mac users about this.
    but then I downloaded the
    hpijs and ESP ghostscript from
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ ,
    however, now that it does print, it is as if it is
    using three times the ink on each page!!
    That's strange. It's not supposed to do that. There's something set funny in the printer setup.
    Every page

    any of the PC laptops, just from my Powerbook. Is
    there anyway I can change the settings on the remote

    The HPIJS drivers use CUPS and GhostScript. That means that you can play with the settings (IF you know what you're doing!) from the CUPS printer page on your Mac. (Open a web browser, type in http://127.0.0.1:631/.) This site may be of some assistence. <http://www.cups.org/> This PDF file may also help. <http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lunixpanther/chapter/ch05.pdf>
    And then there's this: <http://www.mandrake.demon.co.uk/Apple/osxprint.html>
    Note that you'll have to be handy with the command line to use either of the last two.

    I've recently added the MacAir to my Microsoft /Windows network. The Mac sees my printers but all the printers are "paused" and I cannot print, even if directly attached. How do I fix this?

    Yes, I've that and it didn't work. Today, I reinstalled printer software on one printer and the "paused" message changed to "offline". It's a three-in-one printer. I turned off and on again and it still says "offline"

  • Where are my printer preferences in ipad2?

    I'm trying to print from my iPad and it has become mission impossible. I do not have an airprinter but I have a wireless lermax.  I can fallow any suggestions because I can find printer setting anywhere of my iPad

    There are no printer preferences on the iPad. If you don't have an AirPrint printer, you need a third party app in order to print - whether you have a wireless printer or not doesn't matter - you need an app to print.
    Look in the App Store - Print Central, Print and Share, there are others. Search for more.

    Iphoto gives message "no images were selected" when hit print button.  Yet the the images are clearly selected in the print window.  I've printed hundreds of images without a problem before.  Iphoto 6.0.6, MAC 10.5.8, Suggestions?

    I have recently started having this problem in PSE8. The Adobe workaround
    did work, but I don't fancy having to re register each time I use it.
    What I have discovered is that it's nothing to do with the image metadata as it occurs before any image is opened.
    It SEEMS to only occur if you use file/open with to open an image in the editor - IE start PSE with that command.
    If you close elements down, and start it using programs/PSE/Elements (or your desktop shortcut) - the panorama feature magically works.
    Each time I've opened the editor 'automatically' using image/open with, it seems to create the problem.
    Hope this helps
