Are test sites able to be found on search engines?

Hello all. I have created a site as a test and did not want this test site found by Google etc, are BC test sites found by search engines?
thanks
Martin

Post a link of the development site to another site, forum or blog that is indexed then google will go take a look at the site linked and index it unless you deny it fully with a robots.txt

    The site www.airrepaircarolina.com when i type that entire url into a search engine it still doesn't come up. It also doesn't come up when I put the company name in the search area. The code for the index page is below. I'm sure it's something in the meta tags or something I have left out. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Also, if you know how I can get higher rankings in google, yahoo etc without having to pay for that I would appreciate the info.

    ...tag. If you wanted a description and keyword meta tag, you first need to create the correct format...
    <meta name="description" content="this is where the description goes" />
    <meta name="keywords" content="keywords go here" /> (ignored by most browsers)
    You also MUST reduce the size of that description. Generally speaking one or two sentences is it and formatting is also ignored (all the line breaks). That massive block is being ignored first, because it's not correctly formatted, second even if it was, it is going to present to the search engines as a cramming situation and be ignored.
    Your meta tags are not a major factor in how your site will be found. In fact, the keywords meta tag (which it appears you have combined with your description tag) is completely ignored by the major search engines. Your site needs to have keyword rich, relevant html text first and foremost. Without it, you won't be found.
    EDIT: Also, being indexed takes time. You may benefit from creating a Google Webmaster Account, but there is no guarantee it will speed up the process. Indexing can take up to a month in some situations. If the site just went up, give it time.

  • Making pages that will not be found by search engines?

    What can I do in Dreamweaver OR what code can I add to my HTML pages so that Google or any other search engines will not index the pages?
    Thanks.

    This site is a subfolder of a larger website and i do not have access to the root, so I am guessing I can not use the robots.txt file.
    From what I have read, this seems like it will work:
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex">
    1.) here is my existing code below. Do I just insert it after the <head>?
    <head>
        <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
        <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

  • I upgraded my Iphone 4 to os7 and not all of my application icons are visible.  They can be found by searching.  How do I put them back on my desk top?

    I upgraded my Iphone 4 to os7 and not all of my application icons are visible.  I can locate them using the search feature but I would like to have the icons visible on my screen for imediate access. So how do I do this?

    They got pushed to another page of the Home screen. Scroll from left to right to find them. You can then move them to where you want them.

  • Are These Sites Visible To Web Crawlers?

    Are the search engines able to 'see' websites published on me.com? If this is not the case, could I then use my own unique domain on me.com - and have search engine visibility then?
    thanks

    Yes, search engines are able to see sites on me.com. But sometimes it's hard for search engines to find sites right off the bat. Search engines also sometimes have trouble finding every page on a website. So it's best to create what is called an XML sitemap (basically a blueprint of a website made specifically for search engines) and submit the sitemap to the search engines manually. You can use a program such as Sitemap Automator to do this.
    http://www.ragesw.com/products/googlesitemap.html
    As for people actually finding your site in search engines...that could be a different story. For that you might want to consider learning about search engine optimization (SEO) and learn about the ways to make your site more search engine friendly, especially in terms of keywords and placement.

  • How can i optimize my SEARCH ENGINE???I use godaddy.i contact them and they give me this conclusion:Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript. the content on the pages, (photo gallery.....

    conclusion from godaddy:
    Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript.
    the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
    See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
    I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...
    please i need help because like this nobody can rich my website...
    www.chefdiego.com
    thank you

    The part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar.  That's javascript based.  One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not  included in the navbar.
    Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
    Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.
    Have you let Google know your site exists? This website describes how to get it recognized: Get your iWeb website found in search engines like Google Yahoo MSN and Bing.

  • Password protecting test site

    Hi I wanted to password protect a test site I have been making to show to selected people. I found this tutorial using PHP which seems pretty straightforward.
    http://www.zubrag.com/scripts/password-protect.php
    The one problem is it says It will show you protection code to include into your pages. "Sample protection code would look like this (yours will be different): <?php include("/home/users/htdocs/security/password_protect.php"); ?>
    Add that line of code to each php page you would like to protect at the very beginning of the page source (it must be the first line)." Now the problem is that my page is html based, can I add a token PHP page to my index page that just has that bit of code in to password protect it and how would I add the PHP page?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    Try the htaccess generator for dreamweaver extension - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1698154.
    Check with your server provider to ascertain you type of server you are using as this requires Apache, but similar code is available for IIS.
    The htaccess file is a simple file that you upload to your server and will 'point' to the folder you wish to protect.

  • Best way to test site??

    I am preparing to make changes to our left side navigation which is in a template - I don't want to be making these changes to our live site so I set-up a test site using our local network as the server. (Read into the testing server, but found this is for rich content and we just use HTML). I've downloaded all our files to my local test site folder and will be making the changes and testing thru dreamweaver 5.5 which i new to me - do i use the browser lab? (Haven't watched that tutorial yet)
    Thank you!!

    I am preparing to make changes to our left side navigation which is in a template - I don't want to be making these changes to our live site
    Actually, you can do this with the following steps:
    Open and save the Template file with a new name.
    Make your changes to this new Template file, and spawn child pages as needed for testing. Give the child pages test names.
    When things look right and you are ready to go live with the changes, then rename the old Template (and refuse the prompt to update child pages).  Rename the new Template with the old template's name.  Adjust the links to correspond to the live page names.
    Save the finished Template and allow the changes to propagate.
    Upload the changed child pages.
    I've done this oodles of times, with no problems.

  • Local Test site will not transfer files to prview in browser

    I designed a web site in DW the remote site works/views correctly, but the local testing site index page will not preview below the header in any browser with the files it need to view corrrectly.
    I am working on a mac 10.6.8 using DW 5.5. I had my local testing server working correctly viewing these files from a browser for about 1.5 year then it stopped working and stopped transfering some files from the index page.
    The activity report lists all the files that were not transferred.
    and this report;
    File activity incomplete. 2 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files updated: 2
    Files skipped: 20

    Just to clarify, you have defined a Local Testing Server in Dreamweaver.
    What are the setup details for your testing server?
    You have installed either MAMPP, XAMP or WAMP  on your computer.
    Are you sure your server is running?
    Does your index page contain valid code?

  • Both can connect to test sites but not videochat with each other

    I am using a 2GHz PPC iMac on 10.4.6 with external iSight. I can see the Apple ad from one of the test sites. My wife is using a G4 PowerBook running the latest Panther OS with external iSight. She is in a hotel but can also see the Apple ad from the test site. When she was home, we could videochat over Bonjour.
    But, while she is in the hotel out of town, we couldn't videochat with each other. Whether one initiated or the other did, we both get the "XXX failed to respond" message even though we obviously did accept the videocall.
    If we both can videochat with the test sites, how come we cannot videochat with each other?
    Given the above, I hope some experts can rule out a bunch of stuff and let me know the finite (and small) set of potential reasons affecting our situation so that I can work on resolving this efficiently.
    What could be the likely problem?
    On my side, I use an Apple AEBS that uses DHCP and NAT but my iMac is manually set to 10.0.1.201. I have set the ports in Firewall but even when I turned off Firewall it did not work.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi Heng-Yee Yong,
    The test sites are most likely set to have the ports open by UPnP which does not use NAT.
    If you modem is routing and is using Port Forwarding and the Airport is as well then you have two lots of NAT going on at your end.
    I would Open Airport Admin Utilty (Applications/Utilities) and log on to the Airport
    Go to the Network tab.
    Deselect Distributing Addresses which wll trun off NAT in the Airport and make it a Wireless access device.
    This means your computer will have to take an IP form the Modem.
    This may not be rquired if the modem id is Bridge mode itself as this measn it is not routing and all port will be open without the use of NAT.
    This App can help identify if NAT is a problem
    http://bleu.west.spy.net/~dustin/projects/natcheck.xtp
    Or at least whether you have Consistent NAT or not.

  • Mea Culpa - Internet Explorer now renders my iWeb 2 test site correctly?

    After umpteen server tweaks I finally got my iWeb 2 test site uploaded
    http://www.mjweber.com/mjwredsite/mjweber/welcome.html
    It displayed as designed in Safari on my MBP. I then fired up XP in Parallels and loaded the site in Internet Explorer. I didn't expect it to work but it did. Now I'm really stymied!
    I've had numerous compatibility issues with iWeb 2 and IE in the past week paralleled here by hundreds of other posts here. Now, when I finally upload the site, it suddenly works?
    Either the Internet gods are playing with me or the IE incompatibility stems from launching a published iWeb 2 folder from a local XP hard drive. That's where my navigation menus didn't display. What else can I say? I'm going to have a drink.
    I'd appreciate independent site validations by anyone not using Safari or OS X... Linux, Unix, Windows, Netscape, IE, etc. Thanks!
    http://www.mjweber.com/mjwredsite/mjweber/welcome.html

    Hi thanks for the advice, the text is centred vertically , left aligned and there is plenty of space at the end. I will try increasing width/height but not sure if that will help as box is already much bigger than text.
    In fact it works perfectly on another web page ...thats what surprising ....even the html for the two pages is identical from what we can see!
    Take a look at
    www.cibsys.com/cibsys1/index.html on the UK site and run down the various pages on the left side to see what happens (if you have IE on a PC). On the PC on some pages perhaps 30% eg workflow services the menu on the left fails to draw correctly leaving the text un readable.
    Thanks

  • Certain websites i.e.google, yahoo, or other search engines are not found in my server. Why? They were last week. I can only access different countries' google search engines. Error 404 comes up repeatedly. Can anyone explain how to fix this?

    search engines and other websites are not found in my server although they were about a week ago. Now Error 404 pops up every time I try to access the websites or search engines. I am not entirely sure when it started exactly, but if there is a way to fix it, I would be very glad to hear it.

  • When I use a search engine in Firefox, the links redirect me to some spam, and not the site the search engine found.

    When I use a search engine in Firefox, whether it be google, or Yahoo, the links found by the search engine, re-direct me somewhere else. For instance when I searched for Places to Buy PC Games. www.gamestop.com popped up. When I clicked the link, it took me to some laptop hardware site. But if I type in the url for Gamestop, it takes me to their website. This has happened for several searches, several different links. I tried Internet Explorer thinking it may be a problem with the search engines. But IE is working fine for this.

    This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

  • Non-Flash based internet speed test sites for touch?

    I'd like to test my internet speed directly from my touch. It seems like the speed test sites out there that I've found (like www.speakeasy.net/speedtest)use Flash which won't work with the touch. Does anyone know of any internet speed test sites that will work on the touch's Safari browser?

    Great! Thanks for the info. The results seem to be lower than normal though. I could not get over 768k even with my 1.5mb cable connection here at home. I did find this site: http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html which seems to test more accurately.
