Are Widgets dead?

Recently tried to d/l a lyric widget for songs playing in itunes. Most links to lyric widgets are dead/re-directed. Then I realized "Staff Picks" widgets on the Apple site have not bee updated in years. Is the Dashboard dead? I never really use the dashboard so I haven't noticed that Apple seems to have put this out to pasture.
Does anyone know a good way to see lyrics for songs playing in itunes without separate web browsing?

I wondered the same! Too bad, because there were lot's of interesting little tools, and it just never got the support it needed.
Maybe they could turn the space into a 'sandbox' for iOS applications... would be nice to be able to run iOS things on your Mac, and then you wouldn't have to have a separate Dashboard development process.

In J2EE land, are applets dead?
In all the J2EE examples I've seen it's always JSP or Servlets feeding HTML to the client. I am not comfortable restricting the front end to HTML.I have used Swing extensively and like the wide functionality it provides.
Anyway JSP code look awful !!! Sun seems to be placing great emphasis on JSP, but I am afraid that using it would place too many restrictions on the front end.
Does anyone feel the same way as me or am I overlooking something obvious?

I've found a doc in %J2EE_HOME\doc\release\ConfigGuide.html
Put ur applets any where inside the %J2EE_HOME%\public_html. I put them in %J2EE_HOME%\public_html\applets. http://localhost:8000/applets/myApplet.html should load it later. By me it failed becaused myApplet was trying to access to local file. That is a security protection. I'm trying to find out how to adjust those properties files inside %J2EE_HOME%\config to enable access to local files but only when it is coming from my compi / host.
Any one have idea how to configure j2ee-server say to be http://www.mydomain.com and how to configure it to trust all objects... from mydomain.com ??

Unfortunately, only adobe can help you with that, as most people here are just posters such as your self and don't work for adobe.

Flash Builder 4 - design view - states basedOn + design area widget

Hello,
Since i updated my project from Flex 3 to Flash Builder (4), i have very annoying issues in the design area.
The one in Flex 3 was quite usefull, but the new version is not easy, and straight forward usable.
Here are the 3 issues:
- when i have states designed from another one, i use the basedOn mxml attribute, which was used in Flex 3 and still exist in SDK 4 states system.
But the designer view in Flash Builder don't take those basedOn properties in account!
What can i do? and is it a known bug?
- When i have at least one precific state, i must define a defautl state, in the new SDK. Ok, but in design view, i cant add a new component without making the change only for one state. I can only make the change for the default state, but it will not be taken in account for all the other states, like i can do in Flex 3.
What i want to be able to do this: making changes in design view without selecting ANY state.
Is it possible? How can i do?
- In flex 3, there were a design area widget to select the resolution used for the preview design.
It was very usefull when the application has very dynamic width and height.
In Flash Builder, this widget has been removed.
Why has it been removed? and how can i preview my mxml views wihtout changing width and height values?

The update has been improved in every other areas, so it is not that much important.
I just hope that the new release will fix that (as it has been answered to my post).
The only thing i don't like in new releases of FB is that when the architecture of SDK is aimed to seperate the work between design and code, they focused only on catalyst to create the tools to manipulate design, and they forgot to keep an easy way to do design app directly in FB (with the design view and the style properties of MXML in FB3). But i'm confident that they will give such a tool soon.
But for now, if you don't like the restriction of the new release, you can continue to work with Flex 3 for 0$! And even in Flex 4, you can create MX components for which the design view will work as before. The fact that tools can manage a mix between MX and Spark components is a great thing. It is up to you to choose which you need which its own advantages and drawbacks.
Xcode is real pain to use with outdated ergonomy. It is only usefull to code in Objective C which is another real pain to do.
XCode can be cheapper because all Apple products are quite expansive, so the software to create softwares for them can be much more cheapper.
And Apple get a good revenue share from AppStore, so again they can give a cheap soft to create apps. You also have to pay 100$ to be able to send app to appstore, in ly opinion the good price for XCode should be 0$, not even 80$!
Flash builder 4 is very stable, but if you don't like it, you can choose another tool. Main competitor has no designer at all!

The page Roger posted is good but was very confusing for me. I'll try to help you out since that article was confusing to me.
In iTunes, Click your name/email that is directly to the left of the search bar.
Click account info.
Sign in.
Click this button where the mouse is:
(the screenshot is from an older iTunes on windows, but it is the same on the new versions)
Done!
You can only use that button once per year, so try to remember to deauthorize computers before you get rid of them.

Tape drive - LTO 4 drives
Network : HP NC325m PCIe Quad Port Adapter , driver version 16.1.0.1 ( 10/16/2013 )

We did have tape throughput performance issues initially, but after switching to the in-box LTO tape-drive drivers included with the operating system (instead on HP drivers), and setting several registry values associated with tape ports, we got it working.

The best advice to speed up the D2D part of the backup is to configure any antivirus software if present to not perform any real-time scanning made by the DPMRA.EXE and DRSR.EXE executables.
Don't backup the system drive of the DPM server to tape, because there are as many junctions as you have protected volumes define, which makes the backup not work at all.

Hey, BD, I looked at Brothers last night in connection to this questiona and it looks like their newest/current laser print-only units go back to 10.4 but no further.
Brother is the best hope but the OP may need to look for an older model still in stock. For example, for our older Brother HL5250DN, they still show OS9 drivers:

Gary, web-check for stores that still have older models on teh shelf. You can also look at "newer-but-not-new" and then use the Brother site to check for OS9 drivers.

We paid US$199 for ours new about seven years ago. It's been a real workhorse and trouble-free. Well, except for the time my wife tried to feed it a odd paper stock that was not on the printer's official diet!
A Beige G3 consideration: The Big Beige doesn't come with USB ports. You must add a PCI USB adaptor card, and the ones that worked in the Beige are harder to find today.
However, the Beige has built-in ethernet so if you get a printer with an ethernet connector, you will be in bisiness with neither the expense of an extra adaptor card nor the occasional buttheadedness of USB printing. The "N" in our Brother model designates it as a network printer so it has an ethernet port. Many others do also.

Are widgets no longer part of Mavericks ?

Not only can I not enjoy my RSS screensavers anymore, but I've just discovered, upon finding my default translation widget is incorrect, I cannot download widgets anymore. Mavericks is one disappointment after another. What are my alternatives ? Are widgets being phased out for the app store ? I miss Mr. Jobs...

Upon opening it from my downloads folder, I get the prompt, " 'Translate' can't be opened because it is from an inidentified developer. Am I stuck finding this type of program as an app ? I enjoy the ease of switching between my widgets and my homescreen, but now that Mavericks has added... for lack of a better word than 'junk,' I'll say Mavericks has added more 'options,' I'll just have to purchase and add to my clutter a translation app from the store and switch between using my widgets page, my homescreen and second, third and fourth desktops that keep appearing. It's quite disappointing if this is my option.

Twitter widget dead?

My iWeb Twitter widget has gone dead and when I paste the code for Twitter's official widget, nothing shows up in iWeb beside "Tweets by myusername". I have searched the forum but nothing has worked to solve this issue. Does anyone have code for a Twitter widget that will work in iWeb and show recent Tweets? If so please share the code, as I know several people who are trying to figure this out. Thanks

There's all this stuff about Cross-site scripting & that the Javascript in a widget can read
a lot of details of your site.
If you place content - such as your gallery on your secure dotmac page
& drive it in a wide open website...

Ultimately it is the webpage in a browser that makes it secure or insecure.
It's not code by iWeb, but by Google adsense. You add it to iWeb. iWeb stores it on the server.
The widgets would be as (in)secure when you had typed the pages in texteditor and added the code yourself.
The browser is responsible for preventing cross-scripting.
You always see security issues in browsers, not in HTML Editors of any kind.

Are these dead/stuck pixels? Glass damage? Or something else?

Can't quite figure out what this is. Are they stuck pixels? Dead pixels? Eyelash? Damaged glass? Something else?
Because of the glass pane between the display and the screen, I can't tell how much the glass, if any, is potentially refracting colors of the pixel below. I've tried running stuck pixel software to no avail. The display is out of warranty, so it would cost $400 for Apple to fix. But if it is simply in between the glass and the display, maybe there is a cheaper fix.
It is only visible on a lighter background. On a black background, it is not visible at all. I would assume if they were stuck pixels, they would remain visible on a black background. But if it is a small crack in the glass, it would make sense that it would only be visible under certain conditions.
Please let me know your thoughts.

My initial reaction to that picture is there's a defect in the display. It doesn't look like a video card defect nor something caused by some object under the glass to me.
You don't say which monitor that is. But if it's an imac-like monitor (or the recent crop of apple stand-alone monitors). and you are interested in removing the glass to look under it, there are instructions on removing the glass covering the screen. iFixit has some. And if you put something like "remove imac glass" into google you'll find a whole bunch.
One final thing; your sig says you are using Lion. Did you see this problem with Snow Leopard. Anything involving lion I hold suspect

You'll probably find that you have to download the trials of CS6 outside the AAM and install them.

HT4628 how to reinstall Mountain Lion if ethernet and wifi are both dead

For unknown reason my MBP network connection keep dropping on both Ethernet and WIFI after i came back from overseas. Been trying to recreate the network setting and retry, it works for a few seconds then went dead. Thinking of reinstalling OSX but, not sure how to perform it since both ethernet and wifi are both sort of dead.
Any advise will be appreciated.

Head to your System Preferences > Network > Advanced and delete all the network connections.
Next head to your System Preferences > Data and Time and make sure it's correct and being updated with Apple's time server for your location.
Reboot and check the data and time is correct (PRAM reset is in order if it's not)
Connect via wifi and save the password in your Keychain when it asks.

So, I've always considered myself a guy in the know for all things Apple. People are always coming to me for help with things as it relates to thier iPhones/ iPods/ iPads/ iOS and generally I can help them. I am an Amercan living abroad in Ghana, so a lot of ExPats bring their things to me for support. Being abroad, I find that I have need to carry mutiple phone lines (something that I would never do in the States). So I have three iPhones --my 4, 4S, and 5 (as soon as I get back to the States in a few months, I HAD planned to purchase the 5S).
Anyway, friends all laughed at me because they were all on some version of iOS 7 and I was happily content with iOS 6. I wasnt a fan of the new iOS and wasn't interested in updating. However, newly updated apps now forced me to update and so I did. I really should have read the thousands of dissuccuins first, as then I would have known that some iPhone 4S devices have issues. Unfortionately, the update to iOS 7.0.4 killed my wifi and bluetooth. Thinking it a software issue, I did a clean factory restore and sewt up the device as new. No luck, still not able to connect to any wifi or use my bluetook headset. I googled until my fingers hurt trying to find a solution; none of the alleged fixes do anything for me. I'm so disappointed in Apple.
I have no idea what to do. And I'm seriously reevaluating my opinon of Apple products. Too many people online say that contacting Apple hasn't really accomplished anything as iOS 7 updates seems to have effected the hardware. Which really ***** for someone like me.

Apple guys are deleting posts. I have found my posts have been deleted. Apple should MUST let us downgrade at least to previous release from current which was working fine.
