Area chart help/advice needed

Hello fellow fexers,
I am trying to create an area chart that has two series.
The horizontal axis is a range from -12 to 12
The first series charts data from -12 to 0 while the second
series charts data from 0 to 12.
What i am trying to do is have the first series fill the
space above the line while the second fills the space below.
Currently both series fill above.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Is it
possible?

the direction of the fill in an area chart is dictated by the
axis range.
If you have a range that causes the fill to be above the line
but you need to create incidental series to create color areas in
the chart you can set the yvalue of the incidental series to the
lowest point on the y axis

Multiple Xserve config- help/advice needed...

We have just purchased a second xserve (quadcore) to go along with our current xserve (G5 dual-core). We run FTP, web(wikis, blogs, etc that use the LDAP for authentication), LDAP, Open Directory, softwareupdate, DNS, NetInstall (occasionally) and AFP services.
I would like to share the services across the two servers- using the new, more powerful machine to host the home directories, AFP, FTP, etc; and the older machine to handle web, etc. My concern is that I would like to have both use the same LDAP so that I only have to enter in users once, and so that everyone can access their files via FTP at one IP.
Is this even the best way to be thinking about implementing this? Will assigning one server as the OD master, and the other as the OD replica provide both servers with the same LDAP directory? I have clearly never done this before, and I am very excited to be able to use two servers to increase the efficiency. Thanks for any help/advice.

I've done this myself many times. The relevant Admin Manuals do have enough information outlining what needs to be done:

Steve's link is something you should definitely look at. There are some minor differences but nothing to get worried about. Both Servers have to be exactly the same OS and SSH needs to be enabled.

I am probably being a bit thick here with this question so please be gentle with me !
I am new to BT internet and have a limit of !0 gig on my download per month . Now if I watch live tv eg sky tv on my laptop
but am not storing a program for later viewing does this constitute part of my 10gig limit and if so how can I tell how far of my limit I am . I have looked under phone and broadband useage but it does not show, only stateing that there is no excess charge so far .

No it does not, even if you use your own hotspot.

Help/advice needed - cannot restore iPod!

My iPod was working fine, until I tried to update it! Then my computer froze, and the iPod just showed the 'Do Not Disconnect' for hours. The iPod icon wasn't showing up in iTunes or on my desktop, so I disconnected it, and now I just get the little folder and exclamation point icon.
I have followed all the advice on the various Apple documents,, but every time I try to restore it, the update doesn't seem to recognise the iPod, and keeps telling me 'Plug in iPod', even though it is plugged in. I have tried using different USB ports, and the iPod does show up in My Computer (as Drive F), but the updater refuses to recognise it.
I have tried -
Resetting iPod
Putting it into Disk Mode
Have reinstalled Itunes, and redownloaded the iPod updater. Have also tried using old updaters, as well as reinstalling off the original CD that came with the iPod.
Have installed Service Pack 2, run Scan Disk, disconnected firewalls, AVG anti-virus etc.
My iPod is fully charged, but when I turn it on I keep getting the Apple logo, then the folder/exclamation point icon.
Any help/advice much appreciated!

Help/Advice needed on setting up home office network please

I hope someone can help me with some technical difficulties i am having with a home / office network.
Computer equipment i have is:
2 desktop PCs on same floor different rooms.
2 laptop PCs to be used wired in office and/or Wifi if possible any room
2 Apple mac Laptops to be used wired in office and/or Wifi in any room.
1 HP Laser printer with network enabled
1 TB HDD network enabled
1 Linksys WiFi extender unit
Connection equipment:
I have an NTL Cable modem
Linksys WR54G ver 2 router ( with the option of going to aLinksys WRT300N ver 2 router)
A Netgear Dual speed hub DS116
What i would like to do is have one office holding 1 desktop pc, 1 HP Printer and the other office holding the 2nd desktop PC with USB printer attached. I would like to be able to go Wifi around the house for all PC & Mac Laptops with the option of connecting them by wire in the office if required.
Idealy i would like to be able to share files, folders and printers between all units as well as all having internet access through the router's firewall.
I also use Zone Alarm Pro.
At the moment i have in one office the WR54G attached to the cable modem with one Desktop PC wired in to one of the 4 ports. in a 2nd port i have a cable going to the 2nd office into the DS116.
Connected to the DS116 is the 2nd Desktop PC, the HP Laser printer and the 1TB HDD.
The Wifi extender is in another room.
For some reason every now and then the whole system goes wobbly and seems to loose settings at which point internet access is denied and ihave to go back to 1 pc into the cable modem and starting rebuilding the network.
Can anyone give me an idiots guide to settin this kind of system up with specificsettings on each item if possible.
I would say i would also like to use 1 desktop PC for gaming now and then which at the moment sems very hit and miss with speed etc.

And if you can grab a dedicated assistant for the event, go for it. This can make carting stuff about a lot easier, and provide additional security for your equipment. And sometimes other benefits too, like tea...

Satellite P100-307 exchanging HDD Help/Advice needed

Thanks for your recent advice on exchanging my 200 GB HDD in to an 500 GB Sized HDD.
Can you please let me know, what i have to do with the new HDD so that my P100 can recognize it (do i have to format it etc.) ? I would like to mirror the existing HDD onto the new one.....how does it go ?

Windows will recognise a new hard drive (I presume you will be booting the machine from cd) and it it needs formatting it will tell you. You may then have to change the format from FAT32 to NTFS - Windows help will tell you how to do that..
If you are wanting to mirror the old disc image onto the new disc then I think some google research is in order eg "mirror new laptop drive" there are old versions of disk imaging programs availanble for free download that will handle NTFS. names to search for include Acronis and Norton Ghost.
How are you going to "connect" the old and new drives - eg external usb caddy, across a network, mount both drives in a pc.
You can copy the all files using the DOS command xcopy with the include hidden files/folders switch.
Does your old drive have a hidden partition for recovery purposes and you need to decide how you handle that.

Help/advice Needed! Paid for 2 years with no servi...

I have been with BT for 2 years since we moved into our first home, paying approx £40 a month for phone line and broadband! When we initially signed up we were asked various questions to see what product would be best for us, we told them we wouldn't be using phone line as we use our mobiles and would only use the wifi for childrens iPad! We were told to download BT app and log into wifi using email and password which we have done for 2 years! The wifi has always been very slow Nd hit and miss but we live in middle of no where so thought it was our area! After 2 years we have decided to start using home phone for childrens school purposes! So we bought phone, plugged it in and no dialling tone! Called BT who sent out engineer within a week! When engineer arrived he asked where is our hub? My response being whats a hub? After explaining how we usually connect to wifi he explained that that's not our wifi and a hotspot! So basically been paying for over 2 years never used land line or Internet due no fault of our own! We were never told about a hub or received one? The engineer told me to call and complain so which I did over 3 weeks ago! The advisor says he would fill in a form and pass on to his manager, but sent is a hub out which is charged us for? The hub has came and I still can't get any internet after spending another 2 hours on phone doing various tests they can't get it working and are sending out another engineer and was told could possibly be charged £129 for! As you can imagine I am furious with? I still haven't heard back from anyone and have sent a complaints form in also! Can anyone give me any advice on where I stand as I'm not very good with technology? Thanks

Synchronizing mail.app and google mail - help / advice needed

i recently decided to consolidate 2-3 of my email accounts into one account.
Here is what I did.
1. opened a new gmail account
2. copied messages from other folders into the "All Mail" folder of this account.
3. copied 20000 odd messages into the mail.app folder - but only 10880 messages can be seen on google online account.
Problem i need to solve:
1. i have confirmed that several of the messages that are in the offline folder are not on google.
2. i have tried to synchronize this account by choosing the menu action to synchronize.
3. But these messages are not finding their way to the online interface.
How do I move the remaining messages to google online?

One thing I found: I've noted that some mail's larger then approx. 20MB will not copy over.
Also, I've seen some reduction of the count of mail items, that appeared to be due to duplicate emails, I believe that Google's site is automatically de-duplicating, for our 'convenience'. The 'All mail' folder especially, will probably try to de-duplicate. Not sure if it's the same as copying into a 'new' individual folder, or not, as Google's 'all' folder does some special things. Perhaps copying to a new seperate folder may help.
I'm not 100% positive, but take a look, and see if you find that you've got some that you can sort for by size (make sure you're displaying the size column in mail.app) that are over 20MB or even close to that size, and/or also find several emails, with the same subject, date & time stamp, and when copied onto Google's account, then there is only one copy.
I would check those things out first, and see if that helps resolve the issues.

Help, advice needed for learning Action Script

I don't have any experience with programing and even scripting and I can't find tutorials for total beginners. I started to read this one

I’m 27 years old and one month ago I started study ActionScript 3.0. After red a lot of forums with recommendations about what need to do for study as3 I clear next things:
Try to visit forums about as3 and discus with people about your problems and also try to help other solve their problems (you can help a lot of people to solve their problems, you can find a lot answers to your questions, you can share your experience with others)
Try to read books about as3 (in books you can find all theory and some examples for this theory, so this info will be very helpful for you, because it’s a fundamental knowledge what you must to know)
Try to visit sites with tutorials (on the net you can find a lot sites with tutorials and there you step by step will study a lot of things)
Share your knowledge with others (create your blog or something else where you will show to people your examples of work, where you will write about as3 and will share your experiences and knowledge, this can give you chance to consolidate your knowledge and give opportunity other people study as3)
Try to separate big not understandable problem to smaller(after you find answer to all small problems you can find answer to big problem)

Help/advice needed on installing Communications Suite!

Hi,
I'm still a new boy with Solaris so this is going to be more of a training excersize then anything else.
Basically I have a Sun E420r server in a home rack along with some Netra T105's to train me up with Solaris. I would like to install the Java Communication Suite on the E420r, however I haven't been able to find any install guides for it on the sun.docs website.
Ok being too hasty with no experiance I downloaded the Enterprise System first and tried installing all components at once (bad idea!) which didn't go in well at all as many of them failed. I have now decided to switch to the Communications Suite standalone installer but I'm still having problems with some components already installed from the Enterprise Suite installer and also I'm not sure how to even get the services up and running.
Sorry if I sound like a total beginner, I have manged to get many things up and running with Solaris 9 and 10 so far but could not find any guides for this at all. I did find this page:

which is ok for when you have the system setup but what do I do to get it to that stage??
The server also runs the Secure Global Desktop Software coupled with the Sun Ray Server Software of which a Ray client is running off the system. But I really wanted to experiment with the Communications suite too as currently I have Scalix (MS Exchange equivelent) running on a CentOS Linux based system which was relatively straight forward to setup using CLI or GUI it's pretty simple - with documentation of course :-)
If anyone can just give me a hint or point me in the right direction I'd be really greatful!!

This kinda goes out to everyone that works there but just keep doing what you guys do best and creating amazing software and hardware. I really hope the Oracle takeover won't disrupt that at all as I am totally taken by Solaris I think it's awsome!!!
-Too bad that I got into so late though as I've been using Linux since around 2004-2005 and Solaris for only round say 3-4 months now which means in comparison my experience is really limited. However on the plus side things are shaping up very well as I seem to be nearly in a job which means that I will make lots of use of Solaris OS and depending on what the company wants I may be involved with setting Solaris boxes up too which would be amazing as it would give me a whole lot of opportunity to learn much more then what I can with 4, 10 years old servers as part of my home lab. Although the position is no way guaranteed but things are looking really positive.
All I can say is that I can't wait to use Solaris in a professional environment but also can't wait to get funding for newer more powerful machines for my lab so I can actually make use of a lot more Sun software like clustering and Java Web server and all the cool freebies which can be downloaded!

problem is, I don't want viewers to have to vertical scroll on any of the pages, I want the left hand address to always be visible at the bottom of the screen/page and I want the last line of text on in the right bar to line up with the bottom line of the address on the left. I know this isn't the easiest thing to control (due to browser compatibility) but i'm seeking advise for the best compromise/solution.
At the moment, i'm staying safe with a 800 x 600 px page. but to attempt to squeeze the content on the right into a space less than 600px high makes the text too small to read. Was thinking of going up to 1024 x 768 px but am worried that this will lead to vertical and horizontal scrolls.
I am currently using a fixed layout. I have looked into experimenting with elastic and liquid layouts but, and here's the real bind, I want the text content in the right hand bar to line up with the images in the navigation bar!! Am I right in thinking that with relative formats the images don't change it's just the text?

To achieve the pixel perfect precision you're after, you'll need to build your pages entirely with images. Seriously, you can't control where things line up if the end user's settings are not exactly like your own. So don't go there.
Identify your target audience. Desktop/laptops mostly use 1024 - 1280 wide displays.

Excessive horizontal scrolling to see a page is bad practice but vertical scrollbars are perfectly acceptable, and expected by site visitors. You're not doing anybody any favors by making your pages a fixed height. Depending on which toolbars people have opened in their browsers, you may find that 90% of your site visitors are seeing scrollbars anyway.

RAID/Backup Setup General Help/Advice Needed

I've got a PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 with an internal 80GB (all apps) as well as an internal 300GB SATA Seagate (all files), as well as an external 120GB firewire drive I'm using for backup now.
I'm looking to setup a more professional system for backup since my business is growing rapidly and I need a better system than "dragging and dropping" whenever I think about it, and burning millions of DVDs and hoping I've backed up everything.
My initial thought was to put a couple 300–500GB drives in my G5, put all apps/OS/files on one of those drives, and setup RAID to have the other drive mirror it (i have basic understanding of all this, but not 100% yet).
I'm now looking into the Buffalo Terrastation and other options. I'm not sure a networked backup is right for me. Overall I'm very overwhelmed and I'm trying to narrow this down.
I do mostly print and web design daily, and my print project files can be as large as 10GB per project. I just want a system where I can work daily, and pretty much have the same good speed of work as I always have, and not really have to think about backup too much.
I'm open to all suggestions and sincerely appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond.

RAID 1, like Alan says, immediately writes to another drive, you lose the benefit of time. It's really only good for mission critical uses where a hard drive failure would be devastating, like recording ET or something.
RAID 0 is a high performance option that splits the data path as it flows so writes and reads are greatly increased. But it offers no backup, and if one drive dies it takes all your data on all the RAID 0 drives with it.
There are other forms of RAID involving lots of drives which offer different levels of speed, and redundancy. The two I give above are those offered by Apple's Disk Utility. The others are probably better served by a dedicated hardware controller as not to over tax your processors.
If your heavy into large data storage, video, audio then you'll need to look at a RAID 5 or a RAID 1+0 and something like a Apple X-RAID and a PCI Fiber-channel card.
Do I leave the externals running all the time? Will they mount to the desktop as well?
Well with anything that auto-clones/backups the participating drives must be on and mounted. Unfortunately Apple doesn't offer a "per drive" sleep function, sleeping a boot drive affects performance.
However if your security conscious like I am and keep your other drives disconnected, then you'll have to plug them in and use the software manually.
What sort of backup regiment you use is up to you, I keep most all my data on my RAID 0 as boot, clone occasionally to two other drives and keep them disconnected for maximum security.
You might want to do some sort of combination of both, file drive auto-backed up nightly and clone your boot drive once a week manually.

Help/advice needed SwinEvent thread and synchronization

I am having a problem where my app keeps locking up. I have a swing application that receives asynchronous realtime messages from a server.
On receiving these messages my views are required to update the components. I do this my calling a method with a synchronized block that updates the views components in a SwingUtilities.invokeLater clause.
This seems to work fine. However, sometimes when I click a menu item/button the app locks up.
I have put some debug in that shows me the synchronized block started but did not complete?!?!
I think this tells me that the SwingEvent thread interrupted my external notification thread, and caused some sort of deadlock.
If this is the case then why does my synchronized block of code not complete. I am not altogether sure what I should synchronize around.
For example I am doing something like this>
public void notify(Model model){
if(model == null) return;
synchronized(model){
System.out.println("started");
SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){
componentA.setText(model.getName());
System.out.println("ended");
My output when it locks is like this
started
ended
started
ended
started
At this point the app is frozen.
So I guess what I am asking is as follows>
Is the SwingEvent thread interrupting my external notification thread?
If so, why is the synchronized block not completing.
What should I synchronize?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Soo, lost my Iphone 5..its been "offline" in find my iphone, and there has been no calling activity when i check my Verizon account..pretty sure someone turned it off because it was over 80% when it went missing, and it has been off ever since because i have not seen an "old location." If the a**hole who has my phone reset everything, is there anyway it can be found/tracked after that? Should i keep to my guns and cross my fingers that they will turn in on?

You need to call Verizon to tell them that you have lost your phone, Verizon will then be able to de-activate your SIM from being used, so you wont be billed for un-authorized calls made.

Problem after problem with my Z10 - Help/Advice needed

Hello all, last night around 11pm I checked for any new software updates for my Z10 and one came up, I click it and it downloaded fine, installed fine and asked for a reset, I clicked and off it went. Seems it took a while to load up after that, eventually when it did I had many things missing such as contacts, all the apps had moved around and some diappeared.
After looking around the internet I decided to do a security wipe and start fresh, so went into settings etc and entered "blackberry" to start (I removed my SD card before this). Phone went off and came back with a paper shredder icon and a blue spinning icon underneath, great?.. well no because after 2 and a half hours it's still on the same thing. I looked on the internet and it's suppose to take 15mins? also isn't it suppose to say "security wipe in progress" ?
Very confused on what to do now, any help would be appreciated greatly!
